I enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Bao-zi ke, a small, unassuming restaurant in a strip mall with several other restaurants. Bao-zi ke offers a good selection of dumplings, buns, wantons, pancakes (dim sum), and other snacks and sides. They also offer soups and congees. We had the chicken dumplings (a very generous portion, easily shared by 2), steamed beef buns, and smashed cucumber salad. The food arrived promptly. The salad was refreshing, yet savoury and they didn't skimp on the garlic. The chicken dumplings were juicy and flavorful, with very tender pastry. We were offered fried, boiled or steamed, and chose boiled. The beef bun had light, airy pastry and a perfect amount of meat filling. I am eager to go back and try the amazing-looing soup dumplings, which we did not order because my dining companion does not eat pork, leaving me to stare wistfully at the orders of other tables. The selection of pork is vast, and dominates the menu, although there is something for all appetites and restrictions.
The interior is small, with about 6 tables. The dumplings are all house made, and are very fresh. They also offer frozen dumplings.
Bao-zi ke is easily accessible from the highway. Parking is a little tight, but there is enough take-out activity that spots become available frequently.
Cash only - fortunately we were prepared for that eventuality! Final word: great food at an exceptional price! I hope to return soon. read more
