I bought grilled porkchop rice dish ToGo yesterday.The pork chop spoiled. It tasted sour. I don't know how they don't check the meat before sell for customer. Or they thrall out the pork chop from freezer to cooler and not sell porkchop much. Keep long day the porkchop turn bad. My friend ate at restaurants too. He said same thing I said. The pork chop sour. My friends said maybe restaurant marinated pork chop with vinegar . Kitchen need to check the stuff before you want to sell for customer. Goodluck for business. read more

Easily one of my go to Vietnamese restaurants and my favorite bahn mi place in town. I would always have to go to Florida boulevard for some decent pho until Bao opened up and saved me many minutes of extra driving. My go to at Bao are the Pho dac biet (combination pho), Vietnamese wings, and the Bun Bo Hue ( spicy noodle dish). The pho is spectacular and the broth is sooooo flavorful I rarely have to add much Sriracha or if anything to it outside of bean sprouts and jalapenos. The Vietnamese wings are delicious with a crunchy exterior wand a sweet and slightly spicy sauce outside which makes for a perfect combination. Lastly the Bun Bo Hue probably is my favorite thing here ! It's a spicy noodle soup dish that I love to get with pho noodles. Overall Bao is easily one of the best Vietnamese restaurant in Baton Rouge! They have different desert and drinks as well that are really magnificent as well I highly recommend! read more

I ate here today for lunch and the service was terrible. I sat tar the bar and it took forever for someone to acknowledge be despite the two male staff that walked by me repeatedly. They acted like I didn't exist. This is my second time eating here and the first time the waiter was terrible also. Dropped in for late lunch/early dinner. I enjoyed the taro coconut milk tea, however wished there was boba in it, very sweet & tasty anyway. Would skip the popcorn chicken next time. Husband liked the shrimp appetizer. I liked my chicken banh mi (also not bad price tag), however did have to add sriracha and spices as it's bland. This is probably my go to for good Vietnamese food in Baton Rouge. Everything on the menu is definitely delicious and made to order. So you food comes out hot and not cold. The Taro coconut milk tea with tapioca is out of this world. The Thai tea is also very good. The portions are more then enough and this goes for most of the dishes served in a bowl or a plate. The phò is hands the best it comes in 2 sizes the regular which is more then just one serving and the large which if you order it make sure you have a huge appetite. The wings are delicious and a must to order. My favorite is the Banh Mí it's a Vietnamese sandwich with a choice of meats. Possibly my favorite dish in BR- lemongrass tofu banh mi is amazing!!! My husband loves the Vietnamese wings as well which have a nuoc mam chili sauce (fish sauce based) and always smell amazing when they bring them out! He pulls the meat off and eats with steamed rice and it's one of his favorite meals. They also make Vietnamese iced coffee in house, it's incredibly concentrated and very good! Love we have a Vietnamese restaurant off Perkins. So convenient for south side Baton Rouge residents. However I have few comments to add. Plus points for service and ambience. The place is nicely decor w new furniture We ordered 2 app and 2 entree. AppetiZer: 1. Grill pork spring roll - the pork had an awkward flavor. I think they didn't layout the meat flat when they grilled it. This cause ratio of meat contacting the grill to be minimal. Instead they grilled it in ball shape. This reduce chance of char. Another complaint was temperature. Grilled pork was cold. The fish sauce served w/, had a strong flavor. Could use more water sugar and lime. 2. tamarind chicken wing: tasty and delicious. Crispy and nice tangy flavor/ this is dry style, which I like IMO Entree: 1. vermicelli, shrimp, egg roll, grilled pork : husband enjoyed it 2. pho w tendon rare beef n brisket: the broth wasn't hot. More lk is warm temperature. The beef selection they provide w soup is really fresh. That was a plus: the broth had flavor however I tasted fish sauce. Which is odd. As pho restaurant standard. It either has flavor or is too sweet. In this case, the owner decided to compensate blandness w fish sauce. Which is a huge no no. If the broth has simmer for some time, adding fish sauce last minute is a mistake. I really wanted to like this place...I really did. It's the cutest ever! It used to be a bar/club so the bar is crazy long for a restaurant. The interior is super cute, and the outdoor seating is even cuter. Reading the reviews, I expected good food with bad service. I got the opposite. Great service with bad food. Vietnamese chicken wings - flavor is good, but the wings were slightly undercooked. Saigon egg rolls - I loved how authentic it attempted to be. It just fell short on flavor. There was no flavor to the filling nor the fish sauce it came with. There was no garlic or carrots in the fish sauce either. Combination/ Pho Dac Biet- it has to be the least flavorful pho in all of Baton Rouge....I'm not being brutal, just being honest. I've never seen my SO not finish a bowl of pho...until today. I tried it and realized it's because the broth was not flavorful at all. Vietnamese Beef Stew/ Banh Mi Bo Kho- also no flavor...it tasted like beef broth. For $11.50 I got three pieces of meat that was mainly all fat. Disappointing. The bread wasn't hot either, and you can tell it's the bread they have pre-cut to make the banh mi sandwiches. (That's fine, but they should have at least toasted it). Overall. It's a little pricey but not overpriced. It just didn't taste good. The flavors were off on everything, not just one or even two dishes. I feel like they tried too hard to fit into the location...To be honest, I don't think I'd ever come back. Love to stop by here once in a while. It is my go-to place when I am in need of a nice sit down and relaxing dinner experience along with some hot pho. The atmosphere: The restaurant is well decorated and the atmosphere is great especially with the waiters. They also have a patio area decorated with string lights and a fountain to damped the echoing. The food: The wings here are definitely some of the best wings I've tried. They make these so crispy and juicy, it's amazing! It's hard to choose which wing is better between the Vietnamese chicken wing (saucy) and the Tamarind wings (dry), but I have recently been leaning more toward the tamarind. Update 2.0: somehow I fall more and more in love with this place every time I dine here. A few things I learned - 1. They now have VEGAN PHO! The broth base is made with mushrooms, carrot, jicama, mirliton, onion & ginger. It's served with lemongrass tofu and all the usual accouterments 2. They make their sate chili sauce (the darker chili sauce in the little round container within the condiments caddy) in house so naturally, I bought a container to take home with me to use in all my home cooking. 3. Their bao egg rolls are HUGE! No, not Trump huge. I mean real huge. Like double the size of the dinky little ones all other places give you (and for the same price) Keep in mind these are the vietnamese style egg rolls, not the chinese takeout kind. Vietnamese cuisine will be the next big fad in Baton Rouge and if that means more Vietnamese restaurants opening in town, I am so excited! A friend and I stumbled upon Bao as we were going to pick up bagel chips. We walked in to grab a to-go menu, but ended up staying to eat when we read the menu. I will start with the decor. The interior has a sophisticated feeling and I don't know if I've been to a cleaner restaurant. The outdoor patio has abut 6 tables with a water fountain in the center and string lights above. The outdoor eating area is enough to make me want to eat here again and again. We decided to start with the Vietnamese chicken wings because the server described them as the flavor of sour cream and onion Pringles (my fav). The flavor is deceiving because the color is orange but the server's description was spot on and the wings are delightfully tasty. For my entree, I ordered the pork shrimp and egg roll vermicelli, which was delicious. My friend ordered the rare steak and meatball pho. The staff and owner were extremely friendly and accommodating. They asked for honest feedback about our dishes. I will definitely be back! read more

Perfect if you want a quiet intimate meal The indoor seating is nice too. It has a very authentic feel. We have been consistently greeted and sat right away by the hostess. But I've got to admit that I've found the table service to be lacking each and every time. It's not that the service is bad.. it's that the service is LONG. It takes a while for us to be greeted at the table. It takes a while for our drinks to arrive. "I'll be right back." Another wait. Then our order is taken. I understand busy nights, but it has been about 30 minutes each time just to order. I think they need more servers. Also for vegetarians and pescatarians**** the pho and seafood soups are served with beef broth. They currently don't have any vegetarian broths. ^^^ Which was a big let down for my 1st timer friend, who settled for the shrimp fried rice. Wow, the fried rice is a large portion though and she said it was delicious. She left satisfied but she really wanted to try the pho The pho soup has plenty of noodles, huge plus!!!! Food was good. The Vietnamese chicken wings were great, spring roll was decent, fried rice was good and the pho was good. Sugar cane juice was ok Biggest setback was the service. Waitresses were really nice but either they were just too busy or didn't really pay attention to details. A few tables got a lot of prompt attention but saw a few tables that had to wait forever. Saw one table that was in the corner that ended up leaving because they were waiting forever just to get their drinks. Our service was slow which I wasn't in a hurry. To me it was more about the service. We'd get the egg rolls. No napkins or plates so whenever you could catch the waitress when they came back around you'd have to ask for it and wait for their next trip around to get it. Then we got our food. But again the waitress was gone before before we could remind her we needed a spoon and chopsticks to eat it. We finally saw the waitress come back around to get our check. But needed to remind her we needed a box for the fried rice we barely touched. For a place that's set up a little more fast foody (well not a fancy restaurant) you would kind of expect the service would be faster. I'll most likely try this place again, especially for those Vietnamese chicken wings. But if service is the same. Definitely going back to some of the other places. read more

I have been looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant on this side of town for ages, and I think I found it!! I went for dinner with my wife on a Thursday. We started with the chicken wings app. It was perfectly seasoned. It will be a must have on all my future visits. For our meals, I had the beef, tendon, and tripe pho, and she had the combination pho. My only complaint is that it could use a little more meat, but it was delicious!! Kinda super bummed by this place, given it had potential for becoming my go to pho place! It's close to my hotel and looked kinda cool. Here are my biggest bummer items - there isn't a single vegetarian option on the menu. Want something with no red meat in it, sorry - no options either! Even the chicken and seafood dishes all had a beef base, making it impossible for me to make a choice I did not cringe about a little bit ( I do not like or eat red meat). It mad me kinda mad for not looking at menu before I took a detour, but oh well, I was hungry! Really terrible service - I sat at the bar for 20 minutes to wait for a small bowl of chicken pho ( still has beef broth) and once the guy had my order for take out, I was totally ignored. I wasn't asked for water or checked in on again. When I flagged down a different guy and asked for a limeade, I was again ignored and I never got my drink! What made it worse was the fact that people around me on the bar were getting drinks and other items served to them and their server was checking in with them regularly, so annoying! My 2 stars are for the hostess being super sweet while ushering me in and out and the fact that the price point of this place is pretty great. My pho itself was okay - the chicken tasted funky and I left it as is. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad in any way either. The portion size was pretty good too. I also appreciate they serve fresh fruit drinks - there is a machine for oranges and sugarcane juice at the bar. The take out package came without any napkins and a pair of chop sticks - no soup spoon. The pho itself was in one of those yogurt style containers - impossible to eat from, so I had to ask for a bowl at the hotel, again annoying The sauce that came with the pho was kind of bland - very Americanized if you will. Don't think I'm coming back in a hurry, yet to find my go to pho place here in BR. I guess Ava street cafe will have to do for those hard to ignore cravings! read more

I've been to many Vietnamese restaurants in town. I was blown away by the hospitality & cleanliness. The decor was perfect & the host was helpful. Love the ambience & light fixtures especially the overhead hanging chandelier, I just want to swing from it..pun intended. I haven't even got to the food yet but the service & uniqueness of this place sets the standard for good dining experience. Truly a gem in the heart of the capital. It is uncommon goodness & courtesy that is comforting, they do it right here & leave you with portions that are satisfying. The flavors merry together like an orchestra ensemble that leaves you craving for another number (hence everything is numbered on the menu). This may be my new comfort food apart from the usual southern comfort. Vietnamese cuisine has its own flavors & stands on its own accord with the touch of French influence. Everything we ordered was amazing & with two weeks left in BTR I will have to come by again. Would highly recommend a visit here, you will be thoroughly pleased. read more

The restaurant is clean and comfortable, with outdoor seating as well. The service was pretty good too and the prices really can't be beat for this part of town. I was so excited when Bao opened off of Perkins. I love Vietnamese but my favorite spot off of Florida Blvd is sometimes just a little too far away when I'm starving. The restaurant is spacious and well-decorated. They currently do not sell alcohol but have a nice bar. Food is delicious, inexpensive, and filling. The spring rolls are fresh, the chicken wings and crispy and spicy, the pho broth is yummy and comes with a good amount of meat. Staff is friendly and helpful. There were a couple mistakes with our orders (brought the wrong type of spring roll, wrong drink order) but they were quick to fix it. read more

My favorite pho in Baton Rouge. My husband and I come here once every couple of weeks and we always get the same thing because it's just too good. I always get a bowl of pho with brisket and rare steak, and he gets the wonton soup. The broth for both is so flavorful, we often exchange spoonfuls of each with each other from across the table. The bubble tea is a nice cute treat, but their tapioca are a little underdone most of the time. They all taste great though and come in adorable little milk bottles. Order them at least to get a pic for your Instagram. :) The restaurant itself is very modern, clean, and comfortable inside. I've never sat outside, but their little courtyard also seems very nice. I've come in with a party of 10 before and they were able to seat us comfortably, but more people than that than that might be difficult. The restaurant is a good size, but not too large a space. Great place for authentic Vietnamese food. Really cute restaurant with a fountain in the front. The inside was also very well decorated. I always get the Tamarind Chicken wings as they are so flavorful and amazing. The banh mi here is very well done and very yummy, but a little expensive at $8-13 dollars for one. Good use of meats, cilantro, sauce and butter. I'm used to the $3-8 dollar banh mi's, but I did feel like they did a great job here. I've also tried the pho and the dancing beef, which were both very flavorful and good. Their drinks are also pretty well made, but can be too sweet at times. Nothing a little bit of water dilution can't fix though. Only downside that it is quite expensive compared to what you can get in Houston, but the food is amazing and it is worth it! After moving to BR, I will definitely be a regular customer for their chicken wings and their banh mi! read more

Okay, few comments. Good things at the restaurant. I like the entrance. The very cozy and fantasy theme entrance seem very interesting and attractive. I like the fountain also with some models of realistic ducks in the fountain along with lily pads. The inside is very warm (Not in the "heat" way). To be honest, the foods are kind of overpriced. One of the cocktails was $10.00! I like all the chicken. Especially the one with a very salty but lemony taste. The service is awesome. Our server didn't really introduce himself, but was very kind. I ordered lemonade, which was a pretty good choice considering that for the most part, it was better than the other lemonades I had. Some meals are very crispy but still fits in very well with a very soft background layer after the taste of it. The food didn't take too long to come out either. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the drive or the money. The Bun Bo Hue was greasy and had a pungent smell. Also, the veggies were not fresh. The Bao egg rolls were not anything to brag about. Chicken wings lacked flavor and the chicken fried rice was okay. Upside side was the portion of fried rice compared to other places. Literally the only thing I would reorder would be the rice, but there is definitely better fried rice in Baton Rouge. read more
