    Wings !
    Ray C.

I felt the need to update my review after my last visit at the ever so inspiring Chow Main located in downtown Baton Rouge. I got word that they incorporated asian fried wings into their menu at this restaurant and for how much I love asian fried chicken I felt the need to try it out asap. They had numerous of different flavors but we decided to try a few of them which were the choo-choo, miso honey, daosi gravy, and lastly the kung's POW which was a spicy dry rub I wanted to try. As you can tell by the photos I uploaded of the chicken which looked amazing and tasted even better! The most suprising was the daosi wings which consisted of a black bean gravy which has alot of umami flavor. The daosi wings was spectacular with how much flavor I was getting from the gravy, I was constantly dipping my wings into the pool of umami packed black bean flavor. I think if I had any rice on the side I would've finished the daosi wings gravy all the way! The choo choo wings was great as well, they had a very subtle sweetness as well as some good heat to it. Kung's POW wings contained a spicy dry rub on it that really had me constantly licking my fingers to get as much flavor as I can. Lastly the Miso honey which honestly might've been my favorite really quenched my craving of asian fried chicken in south Louisiana. The Miso honey had such a nice subtle honey sweetness that was not overly sweet or salty from the miso in it as well. Chow Main strives to constantly improve their menu as well as flavor without sacrificing simplicity. I can honestly say that Chow Main may as well be my favorite restaurant I discovered in 2020 even though the year isn't over. They have left such a everlasting impression on me through the few times I've been that I'm excited to see what they will bring next and look forward to the next time I'm back!

Today's special. Hamburger steak over lo mein, mushrooms and roasted Brussel sprouts. Not bad... not bad at all.

I still don't think the prices match the food. But I had lunch here today because I needed something fast and quick, and my experience was a lot more pleasant than the last one. The food was a lot better, in quality and freshness. Still, I don't think I would crave going back, but it gets brown points for being something you can really pick up on the go.

Chow Main is a great place to grab a quick lunch that is very reasonably priced considering the amount of food that you receive in you order. I really enjoyed the roasted chicken and they offer a nice variety of side options to choose from. The staff was incredibly helpful and the owner personally came out to thank me for trying them which was very thoughtful. My only concern was that some of the food was a tad greasy for my taste which hindered my attempt at eating healthy sides.

Fried rice, spicy chicken, Brussels sprouts, double broccoli, roasted garlic and teriyaki sauce!

She came across as short, unfriendly, and overall not very pleasant. I first ordered a Banana Foster's Martini, but she came back and said they didn't have the ingredients. No problem--I asked for an Espresso Martini instead. A few minutes later, after bringing everyone else's drinks, she returned and simply said they couldn't make that either and asked if I wanted something else. At that point, I just declined. When it was time to order, our table had nine people. She took my husband's order, then went around the table taking everyone else's order. By the time she got back to me, she said, "Okay, is that it?" I had to remind her that she hadn't taken my order yet. I ordered the crab and corn bisque, a salad, and the stuffed catfish with creamed spinach. The salad came out quickly and was very good. Then everyone else at the table received their meals while I only received my bisque. After waiting, I was told my stuffed catfish "didn't come out right" and had to be remade. At that point, I honestly wondered if it was a joke. It wasn't. By the time my entrée arrived, everyone else was nearly finished eating. To the restaurant's credit, they did remove the stuffed catfish from my bill, and I appreciated that. However, the entire experience left me feeling overlooked from start to finish. My biggest suggestion would be for our waitress to work on her customer service. A smile goes a long way. Saying things like "Give me that plate," slamming cups onto the table, and appearing annoyed throughout the meal doesn't create a welcoming dining experience. Hospitality is just as important as the food, and I hope this feedback is taken constructively.

The atmosphere is small, cozy, and inviting, making it just as good for a casual dinner as it is for a special night out. Our server, Addison, was outstanding--easily one of the best servers I've had in Baton Rouge. She was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience even better. If you get the chance, don't miss their Restaurant Week menu. They always go above and beyond, and this year was no exception. The quail, stuffed with boudin and served over red beans, was incredibly juicy and packed with flavor. It was one of the standout dishes I've had in quite a while. If you're in Baton Rouge and can't decide where to eat, City Pork on Jefferson is a place you can count on. Great food, excellent service, and a warm atmosphere keep me coming back.

The crawfish were flavorful, seasoned well, and priced right, which is honestly the perfect combination when you're sitting down ready to eat. They had that messy, not really spicy, addictive quality that keeps you reaching for "just one more" until the tray is empty. I also tried the buffalo wings. They weren't that great, if I'm being honest, but I was hungry so they got the job done. The crawfish are clearly the star of the show here anyway. The atmosphere felt relaxed and unpretentious, exactly the kind of place you want for seafood with friends, cold drinks, and a table full of shells piling up by the minute. If you're wondering whether I'll be back, I already have.
