We visit Baton Rouge twice each year. On a previous trip, we drove past Crawford's and I said, "That looks like a place we need to try!" We finally got there for lunch on Thursday! What an awesome place! I had the Ken's Creole.... It was wonderful. Their hush puppies are light with a crisp crust, just like I love them. I had sides of green beans and red beans and rice. I enjoyed this place! I went about 15 minutes before close on a Friday, they were quite busy but customer service was still good. We did have about a 30 minute wait for our to go order, but everything was freshly made when we got it. Nice portion sizes. There was an error with our order that they fixed with no questions asked which was greatly appreciated. Overall, everything was flavorful and worth the wait and value. Oh my God! This place is wonderful! We were greeted in such a friendly manner as soon as we walk through the door and told "sit anywhere you want to". Once we chose the seat, the server came to us immediately. Everyone in the restaurant was so friendly and helpful and we were treated like old, familiar friends. The server brought warm hush puppies with lots of buttery spread. This was their complementary "bread". The hush puppies were delicious - crunching on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I couldn't stop eating them and almost forgot to take a picture before they were all eaten. After a couple of minutes we ordered and our food did not take long to come at all. My husband ordered the grilled chicken with fried sweet potato fries as his two sides, and I ordered a bowl of crawfish etouffee. Everything was flavorful and filling. I rarely give 5 stars. I've been looking for a decent po boy in Baton Rouge for a long time. Most are not good AT ALL! Out of the many many places, this is the absolute BEST! Bread= good and chewy. Stuffed with a ton of shrimp. The customer service was so excellent, that even if it was not that good, I'd go back and try something else. It was THAT good tho. A MUST GO !!! You must... you must ... you must. This was absolutely the best fried fish and shrimp plate I have had at a reasonable price point. I have been hearing about this place and had never been. I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT!! The lady that took my order was extremely helpful since this was my first visit. She suggested the combo plate and the sides. The green beans were great. Mac and cheese needed a little more seasoning, yet still good. The freshness of the seafood will make me return again. So glad we came here for lunch. Everyone was friendly. This is a down right southern soul filling food spot you need to try! Hush puppies were served upon sitting down as if they were dinner rolls. We even got another basket while we waited on our food. The catfish was . I haven't had such moist and flakey perfectly cooked fried catfish in so long. And the crawfish etouffee was delicious. It was nice that at the end of your meal, you could go to the back of their storage area where they have a running vanilla icecream machine that you can top your belly off with if you have any more room for it. If you are ever visiting LSU and are looking for a place to eat, I recommend Crawford's. The owners "spoke" when I walked in and that is all that I really need to feel at home. It was not too crowded and the wait for food was not long. The only thing that I would pass on are the corn fritters; I did not enjoy the cream corn filling inside. Hidden gem alert! My husband has been singing the praises of Crawford's for lunch on fridays he brews for a while and I finally tried it recently - wow! We both got the combo fish and shrimp platter and it was A TON of fresh seafood - the shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly and the fish was mild and delightful. You also get 2 sides with the platter so I got the side of greens and Mac and cheese and my husband got the fried okra and Mac. The greens needed a bit more seasoning but were perfectly cooked and very juicy. The mac is AMAZING. Also, don't sleep on the cocktail and tartar. A wonderful accompaniment to all this awesomeness. Crawfords has amazing Cajun home cooking with amazing customer service' Mini was our server and has taken care of my Grandmother and Great Aunt for their weekly lunch outings at Crawfords. This time we were able to take my Grandmother to one of her favorite places and meet her sweet server. The food here is local cuisine that reminds me of my childhood. The prices are great too!! They also offer family size ordering to make it easy in large groups.... Or to take dinner home! The fried catfish is my grandmothers favorite. We all loved our choices. While traveling home to Texas at the end of vacation we stopped in Baton Rouge for the night. A mile away from our hotel was Crawford's. I read the reviews and there was familiarity. Anyone who has lived in what I would call a "fishin' for yer supper" kind of community along the upper Gulf Coast region might relate. These communities aren't full of upscale condos and shoreside mansions. These places are riddled with small homes with a modest boat in the driveway or down at the dock ready for hours of "fishin' for yer supper." And that's where this review comes from. Crawford's dark roux seafood gumbo, perfectly fried catfish and sweet hush puppies took me down memory lane. As did their garden salad - simple, cold, and crisp. My husband is not a catfish guy, and even he loved the catfish! Crawford's interior was also reminiscent of those bygone days of plain wood tables and chairs in a simple one room diner along the channel, a bottle of Louisiana Sauce (of course), and diner style salt and pepper shakers that might have been found in your granny's house in 1970. Your food comes to you hot and fresh on a diner style melamine plate. The cocktail sauce is just like you remember it when you were a kid. It's divine. Anyone who has experienced "fishin' for yer supper" dining should stop by. If you aren't used to such places, I hope you'll consider coming on in for food made with love and a smile. Never new this little place existed in Baton Rouge. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner. I visited for lunch and ordered the all you can eat shrimp and catfish. I wasn't a fan of the fish, but the shrimp had me wanting more. I literally ate all the shrimp I could, and visited this restaurant for the all you can eat shrimp three Fridays straight. Okay, so I have to admit when we pulled into the parking lot at lunchtime on Black Friday and there's only three cars in the lot I was very skeptical to say the least, but I trusted the reviews and decided to go in and check them out. If you want very good catfish, this is definitely your place! $12.99 for all you can eat? Yessir!!! The meal arrived at the table piping hot and the fish was so mild and flaky. Cooked just right with just enough batter to please even the pickiest catfish aficionado. I opted for the gumbo for my app and I wasn't really impressed. That's the only thing keeping that fifth star out. My two sides were the loaded mashed potatoes and the Cajun slaw. Both were excellent! Oh, I almost forgot, the hush puppies are extremely good too. Nothing we had was greasy nor oily. Service was extremely good and everyone was super friendly! Overall I'm extremely pleased with our meal. The tea was a little sweet but you can remedy that by ordering half and half. If you want great catfish this is definitely your place! We were there for breakfast around 9am and buy the time we were done and out it was past 10.. i am just saying they took too long to serve our food even at that point only 3 other tables occupied with only one larger party of 5. The food was ok not bad not amazing just ok. It tasted just like how i would do at home nothing special or not any special flavour or so to keep us going there again. I finally made it across town to this place and it was definitely worth the drive. The food was very good and reasonably priced.The Catfish was so delicious! It was fresh and perfectly seasoned. I got the Catfish Lunch and my 2 sides were: rice & gravy and green beans. The gravy was delicious! I don't know what was in it but I would put it on top of everything. The green beans and corn fritters were also very good. The free hushpuppies they brought to the table were a nice surprise and of course they were delicious. We got there right before they were about to close and the girl who was working there was super nice. We never felt rushed. First time in Baton Rouge, and on our first morning here, we found this spot close by our hotel. My hubby loved his c-fish plate and I had the gumbo. I thought it was a little salty, but it was still good. I love that they offer complimentary hush puppies as an appetizer, along with free ice cream (if you choose) for dessert. Such thoughtfulness! Also, the owner was in the restaurant while we were there. He came up to every table to greet us and chat with us! He's so warm and friendly. While talking to us, he noticed that I was without a spoon for my gumbo, and he took it upon himself to bring one right to me. Looking for hidden gems? This is probably what you're looking for. The location is tucked away on Staring Lane with a small sign that you can barely see. I've had my eyes on this place for awhile, and I was not disappointed. Immediately upon arriving through the doors, the restaurant did not impress me. There was a cashier and kitchen area to the right and a bunch of unassuming tables to the left. The waitress staff greeted us, and a waitress told us to pick any seat so we picked one near the wall of mirrors as this was the table with the most room around it. The other tables were haphazardly placed which made the whole place look clustered. Personally, I did not like the decor much between the randomly assorted tables and the closed blinds on the windows. I thought that I just traveled back in time. Once seated, a waitress came to ask us our drinks and give us the menus. She gave us a minute and came back to answer our questions and take our orders. She was super kind and super helpful. The menu had a solid number of choices without overdoing it. With our orders in, she went and fetched us a bowl of complimentary hushpuppies. She calmly explained how things worked with the salad bar and the dessert bar and with the AYCE fried catfish plate that I ordered. I had to call the waitress to bring more catfish. The salad and dessert bars are placed in the back and accessible by those who paid for it. If you pick a salad as a side, you can go and get anything you want at the salad bar if it is open. The only issue that happened with this restaurant was that my server left during a change in the shifts and did not tell the other servers of my order. Therefore, I had to wait for sometime to continue to get my endless supply of fried catfish. We had to call over a new waitress who took care of the issue by becoming our server and providing us with the best service that I have ever seen. The food here was fabulous. The complimentary hushpuppies were tasty, fluffy, and had a hint of sweetness to it. If you put some of the provided butter on it, you will definitely just fall in love. My fried catfish plate came with mashed potatoes with gravy and Mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes with gravy were good and reminded me of the school cafeteria mash which was one of my favorite items to get. The gravy was seasoned a bit too much for my liking. The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. The star of the plate, the fried catfish, was really out-of-this-world. It was flaky and came apart really easily. The seasoning was all there, and I loved every bite of it. I can see why the fried catfish was the star of the place. I also had a taste of the garlic bread which was big in size. The garlic was layered on top, but I could taste it throughout each bite which was impressive for a big piece of bread with garlic layered on top. Each bite seemed like a piece of garlic heaven. The salad bar was really fresh as well. All of the greens were fresh. The salad dressings had a lot of flavor, and the croutons were like mini garlic bread pieces. Aside from all of my personal dislikes of the decor, I think the service and the food really elevates the whole restaurant. I could not give it a full 5 stars only because of the service mishap and the decor. I would definitely come back and try to avoid the shift change at around 2-3 pm. read more

I think I'm missing the hype here. Don't get me wrong the service was awesome. Our waitress made sure we had everything we needed and served it all with a smile. I'm not sure if one of the other ladies was a co owner or something but she was very loud and seemed to talk down about a server who I believe was busy handling something and did not clean off her table as quick she thought she should have. That didn't ring to well with me but hey to each it's own. They do have very reasonable prices and the portion size is good. The fish was a miss with me. I know they are famous for it but it had a very strong lemon taste in the batter that was over powering the flavor for me. The shrimp also had the same problem. Great little hole in the wall stop between airport and LSU campus. Staff was super friendly even though we showed up just before closing! Everything we ordered was really good. Started with boudin balls and moved on to po boys, fried shrimp and crawfish tails with hush puppies, red beans and rice and chicken tenders. Soft serve ice cream was included for dessert...bonus! This restaurant is fairly small and simple. It gives off an old time vibe and there is conservative propaganda posted on the door. When we walked in we were greeted politely and given the option to choose any seat. We order the C-Fish Lunch with Fried Okra and Potato Salad. We also tried the Shrimp Poboy with Fries. Being in Baton Rouge for only a few days and having a tight schedule on top of that , I knew I could not leave without trying some local cajun cooking. I knew I found the right spot when I pulled up and the parking lot was full of local tags. To say the place was packed is an understatement. Regardless of the crowd, I placed my order for Seafood Gumbo, red beans and rice with sausage and okra and an order of Boudin Balls.. and no it was not all for me, but I was allowed to sample the sausage, Boudin Balls as well as the rice and red beans... Along with my Seafood Gumbo, it all had a great taste. Portions were large and the staff at the front counter was friendly and efficient ...
