This is my favorite restaurant to grab a hot plate of fried fish!! The hamburger and fries are also great!

First timers. Seafood pasta with angel hair and the pot roast poboy with gravy. The food was wonderful! Amazing really, can't wait to go back. The service was ok, you walk up order and pay first. They give you a number and bring your food out when ready. Looks like it used to be a hopping sports bar type place but while we were there it was mostly to go orders. The place and bathrooms were very clean. So much variety on that menu... we will try again soon! read more

Food was good as usual. Crawfish egg rolls are amazing. My husband really loves the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and gravy.

John Michael's is an outstanding restaurant. We get takeout at least once a week and it's always good. My only complaint is when I get fried shrimp poboy or plate with fries I wish they would fry it just a little longer to give it more of a golden brown whenever I'm eating all of the batter is falling off the shrimp from the steam release from the shrimp. An extra minute of cooking would alleviate this issue all in all the food her is delicious and i high recommend it and I have to many of my friends in the area. Only been in the establishment once and that visit was pretty epic. The place is clean and the service was good as well. Very friendly. I usually get my food delivered. But everything I order has so far been spectacular. The pasta salad is good with the boiled shrimps. And the chicken breast plate is very good. I am a fry guy and I love their fries along with their sweet and tangy ketchup. read more

A great little diner, just off the freeway in Gonzales serving many of the local plants and easy access to the highway. This was an order upfront place for my colleague, and I both ordered crawfish étouffée with rice and some ice tea and I got me a cup of corn and crab chowder. Local place, well managed, very tasty food at a bit high of a price point but for what you get a good value. Looking for good local Louisiana food highly recommend right here! Very good. read more

We found John Michaels good eats off yelp and decided to come give it a try. It's a cute little atmosphere kitchen/bar. First off, the customer service was off the chain! I didn't get the man's name who took our order, but he needs a raise! He made the best recommendations and had nothing but good things to say about their menu. He sat with us for about five minutes helping us decide on our order and didn't make us feel rushed at all. You order at the front and pay there. Once we ordered we found our seats and started speaking with the bar manager, Nelson. He gave us a little bit of the places history and was super attentive. Stopped in on whim for lunch on a Saturday and could not wait to go back. Salad was fresh and the soup was hot. Spearmint tea is wonderful.

Honestly I don't see the hype. The server was very nice but it took way to long for the food to come out. Not her fault at all as she kept checking on us throughout waiting on the kitchen. I got the seafood combo and I honestly regretted it. The fish tasted spoiled and the shrimp were just bearable. I was pretty hungry after not eating all day so I didn't send it back. Lots of tvs around and and a bar. I never went to the original location so it was my first time. My husband said his sandwich was ok but it was full of onions and little meat. They have enough options for lunch/dinner that it takes awhile to make your choice as the menu is extensive. You place your order at the cash register, your given cups for your drinks, and your food is delivered to your table. We were checked on several times during our meal to ensure everything was OK. My husband ordered a Shrimp Poboy with Pasta Salad and I ordered a small Crayfish Étouffée and a side of Green Beans. All of our food was perfectly prepared and seasoned. The food tasted fresh and bright with enough salt & spice but no excess. We were both impressed and satisfied with our choices and amount of food. The restaurant was clean and appealing with stylish tables, chairs, and booths. The interior is not fancy or dark just updated and functional. The only recommendation I would suggest is that they use silverware instead of some plastic forks for in-house dining. We would definitely be regular customers if we lived in this area!! Terrible food, even worse customer service! I support local business, but would suggest anyone with morals and decency to spend their money elsewhere. The so called owner addressed my complaints by saying "he's never heard that before, so he doesn't think he should issue a refund" for $40 worth of food that was not up to par. We stopped here on our way back from New Orleans. We were greeted and assisted immediately upon entering. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean and had a good vibe. They have a nice bar area, and it appears as though you could get pretty much any drink imaginable. It took us a few minutes to make our selections because they have a HUGE selection of sandwiches!! We ordered our sandwiches and found our seats. They arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I got the French Dip with a side of pasta salad,and my husband got a muffuletta with Cole slaw. The pasta salad was average, but the French Dip sandwich was absolutely AWESOME!! I would highly recommend it, and would absolutely order it again. My husband enjoyed his sandwich as well. This is the second time I gave this restaurant a chance. Their salads are amazing... well they used to be when they were in the old location. Today I went in and got a grilled shrimp salad (already knowing the last time I went I said I would never go back). The veggies are wilted, soft and just not any good. Today is Tuesday, you would think the tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce would be fresh. The tomatoes seem like they were from last week. The cucumbers were soggy. seems like they had been frozen a few times. I dont think I am returning. It's too expensive for what I am getting. $12 for a salad. It was a call in order that was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes not 45. I am not a fan anymore. read more

This place is great sandwich stop! I'd say swing on in and get one if their delicious sandwiches with fries anytime! They have lots of options-it's not a "sandwich joint" but that's my favorite thing to get there. I love the Philly, or the pot roast sandwich with gravy CANT be beat! First time visiting today. I walked in and the two guys at the counter were extremely friendly. I was meeting with a friend for lunch. I ordered the chipotle brisket on sourdough, probably the tastiest bread for this sandwich. The guy asked if I wanted sour cream on it or on the side. I thought it was a strange condiment to put on the sandwich, I was wrong! He put it on the side so I could try it. Adding a light amount sour cream to this was perfect and enhanced the flavors!! My friend ordered the Buffalo chicken wrap (grilled chicken) and they guy asked if he's had the fried chicken. He said the fried chicken is excellent, so he made it a Buffalo fried chicken wrap. My friend said it was very good. The food came out in a timely manner as well. There were a few other staff members working and were all very nice. You can tell this place is managed well. Food is great and the staff is extremely nice and friendly. We all talked LSU football for a few minutes. I will be back here again!!! read more

Update: I've been back a couple of times since my original review and have to admit, all the selections we've had were better than expected. The hamburger is very good - fresh tasting with a great chargrill flavor. My daughter raved about the spinach artichoke pasta. The meatball sandwich was also very good as was the eggplant chicken wrap. The french fries on our last trip were a serious letdown- cold and stale. Everything else was very good. --------------- A menu with SO many options screams frozen, processed foods. It would be near impossible to offer that many options made-to-order from scratch. But, what we had wasn't too bad. Buffalo sauce on the wings had a good bite and good flavor. Chicken fajita wrap was average- not bad, but not spectacular. Lemon pesto pasta had good flavor, but the sauce was quite heavy. If you're looking for an average, filling meal this could be your place. I think they could be so much better than average by trimming the menu and focusing on a few high quality selections. read more

I ordered a muffuletta poboy to go. Most people order muffuletta because they enjoy the olive salad. When I opened it I was disappointed in the lack of olive salad on my sandwich. The poboy was about a 6". Probably won't be ordering it again. read more

Good Food in Neighborhood Two of us went here to the new location which was just across the street from the old location to eat dinner. I been here a couple of other times and was impressed with the only sandwich I ever got there: the meatball cheese burger. In the past I got this two other times and it was really good. The meatballs are perhaps the best ones I have had from any other place. The problem with the sandwich this time it was a bit too dry, lacking mayo. It did come with lettuce, tomato, red onion and cheese. The lettuce and tomato were very sparse and the bread needed to be toastier. Even though the meatball were excellent they should have been cut in half to cover the sandwich as when you tried to bite into it, the meatballs would slide off to the side. I eventually open the sandwich and sliced them and spread them around on the bread. My companion really enjoyed the Cuban sandwich however. read more

One of my favorite lunch spots during the week. The homemade cookies are phenomenal. I switch up between the burger and salads most often, but honestly, everything on the menu is great. They make homemade croutons as well. The angel hair chicken alfredo is one of my guilty pleasures when I'm looking for a cheat meal.
