Banh Mi Boys can be a hit or miss! I had some times where the bread was really stale and hard, while other times its been perfectly soft and warm. Definitely better to eat right away than delivery to ensure bread is fresh. I highly recommend the Kalbi beef if you enjoy korean bbq, tender meat and kimchi with amazing acidity from pickled carrots. read more

Viet fusion Banh Mi I had to try the Kalbi Beef Banh Mi. Yummy grilled kalbi beef, but I wish there was more meat. They weren't stingy on the pickled carrots and radish though. It's better than the ones in Chinatown, but I don't think it should be triple the price. The Pork Belly Steam Bao was a bit small, fatty and not grilled long enough. Surprisingly, I really liked the sides. The Sweet Potato Fries was well done. There's not enough spicy mayo, but you can ask for more. I also liked the refreshing Jicama Papaya Salad, with a vinaigrette dressing. Fresh and fast service. Definitely worth coming back for their other menu items. read more

Does it hit the spot? Yeah sort of. Will be back for seconds? Probably not. Typical online dating app story but it's similar to this spot. I heard a lot of hype about this place and had fairly high expectations. To start, it's definitely not the first place I'd go to for a banh mi. There are places that are way cheaper and taste just as good or even better. I ordered the Club Banh Mi ($12.50), Kimchi Fries ($8.00), Club Steamed Bao ($7.50) and Pulled Pork Bao ($4.50). FYI remember to bring or buy some water with the meal... I'll let you know why. The Club Banh Mi was decent but not memorable. It was a dry and needed more sauce. Both baos were OK, but with that price point the value to flavour is next to none (not to mention that the pulled pork was dry). I found myself having to have a swig of water after every bite. The Kimchi fries saved the entire meal. Great combination with the flavours but again really lacked on the sauce department. Once the top layer of ingredients were gone (which wasn't much to begin with!), it was a dry, sad box of fries... This review is only for takeout/delivery. I recently ordered from Skip as the posted wait time for this restaurant was relatively short (25-35 minutes). I was scheduled to attend a meeting right after lunch, so I allowed about 40 minutes for delivery and 15-20 minutes to eat. Unfortunately, my order took over an hour and 15 minutes to arrive - wasn't able to get an update from the app even when I contacted customer service, so I have no idea if the delay was with the restaurant or the delivery driver. The food wasn't hot when I finally got it, but then I also had to wait til after my meeting to eat it. Not sure if the food would have been any better if it wasn't cold, but everything was just average. I'll give them another try because I'm sure the bao buns would be so much better warm/hot. This is my go to for a "sandwich" (or bao or taco or fries) that's good value - well-sized, fairly priced. I typically get a banh mi, but this past week I got the squid taco and the fried chicken bao. If you've been sleeping on their other options, don't miss out and give 'em a try. The friend chicken in particular is excellent and I am sad I haven't given it a try until now. If you're going with a large group like 5+, It might be hard if it's busy time. Parking is a bit tough since they don't have their own lot. I'd recommend parking on a side street near by as some of them are free. Serivce - N/A You pay at the counter and picked up the food yourself so there really isn't much service involved. That being said, the cashier was nice and courteous. Wait times for food can vary, we had to wait about 5-10 mins but there were a lot of orders in front of us. I could see it taking less when it's not busy. We went around prime dinner time. Would I go there again? Because it's a little smaller compared to their banhmi, I ordered a side of kimchi fries with it. I really enjoyed the pork belly bao and is definitely not just a snack for me. The kimchi fries came in a generous portion, however, the kimchi didn't make the cut for me. Due to covid, all food orders are take away. I should have asked for the topping for the poutine to be packed separately for me to assemble when I get home. The fries were soggy by the time I got home. Why have I not tried this sooner? Was in the area and I discovered that Banh Mi Boys is amazing. First off the store ambiance is great. Seating, cleanliness and a view of the food preparation area. When I went it wasn't too crowded (11:30ish) but I believe lines form around 12:30 until 2. Nonetheless, they seem fast and efficient. The menu is awesome and great pricing! I love how the menu has vegetarian options in each area too, that's a major plus for me. Decided on tofu fries and a Panko crusted tofu bao. my order was ready very swiftly. The tofu fries were delicious...basically kimchi fries but instead of pulled pork they substitute with tofu. This is incredibly filling...I was not able to finish the entire box. The tofu bao was delicious too!! Lightly fried Panko crusted tofu with Sriracha and fresh veggies....mmmm so good!! And the prices are so reasonable! I'll definitely be back soon. read more

I'm not really impressed with Banh Mi Boys. Tried them once downtown a few years ago and just felt it was overpriced Banh Mi. I'm Viet so I'm use to the original stuff in Vietnam or at least the small stores in Chinatown which sells for like $2-3 a sandwich. Decided to give them another go and tried the kimchi fries recently and thought it wasn't too bad but nothing to rave over. It wasn't hot enough for me but the kimchi added a unexpected spiciness to it that I did like. Primary issue I was a bit concerned about is the cleanliness. There were so many fruit flies where I was sitting... It was off putting. Like I had to repeatedly squat them away while eating. Staff need to take garbage out more frequently. Overall, my opinion hasn't really changed. I think its overpriced for what is offered and am confused by why everyone loves it so. If I'm ever in the mood, maybe I'll give them a 3rd chance and try the baos or a Banh Mi again. Lol read more

I have kind of a complicated history with Banh Mi Boys. I was working in the area when they opened their first location on Queen Street all those years ago, and I was, to put it mildly, blown away by the quality of their various offerings. It got to the point where the staff recognized and greeted me when I showed up. So I was obviously very excited when they opened a location right next to my apartment. But my first several trips were rife with disappointment; the food was either not flavorful enough or not spicy enough or, in essence, just not *good* enough. It was a trip on a recent Saturday that encouraged me to finally write a review, as the food was pretty darn good (although nowhere near the levels of its original location in its early days). I should note, however, that even though there were only two people in front of me, it took almost a full half hour to get my food. It looked like the staff was busy preparing a variety of online and pickup orders, which is kind of bogus, really, given that I'm stuck standing while they prioritize people who aren't even there. But I digress. I was initially planning to order the Meatball Banh Mi but was distressed and disappointed to discover that it's not on the menu anymore. (Booo! Hiss!) Anyway, I instead decided to go with the Duck Confit Banh Mi ("braised leg, onion chutney") and I requested it extra hot (which I was told was a no-go since they were "out of habaneros"). It's definitely a tasty sandwich. The duck is cooked quite well and is relatively juicy, while the various veggie components add a flavorful crunch. The one thing I missed and what I generally miss now at Banh Mi Boys is a lack of sauce. When I used to order their sandwiches, they were packed with tangy, tasty sauce. Now you get a thin schmear of sauce, but it's hardly enough. It's a needlessly dry sandwich, is my point. We also decided to share an order of the justifiably legendary Kimchi Fries ("pulled pork + mayo + kimchi + green onion"). I don't think I've ever ordered this and not been blown away. All the flavors work so well together, and there's usually not a dry fry to be had in the plentiful serving. I'll be loyal to Banh Mi Boys forever if only for the Kimchi Fries. I'm glad to have this location so close by, but I do still wish that the food quality was at a level beyond pretty good. read more

I feel the sandwich bun is a little bit hard for me, but it's is Banh Mi style for sure. Instead of your typical cold cut meats there is Korean and Taiwanese style meats, like braised beef, pulled pork and duck confit. There is even a southern inspired fried chicken steamed bao bun. So you take your usual Vietnamese sandwich palette and swap out the sliced pork and meatballs for something way more flavorful and higher quality. The food here is seriously delicious. At least partially because I've gotten better at selecting what I love from their menu, but it's all just exceptional! 5 Stars for the grilled pork banh mi! - These are not your grandfather's $2 Banh Mi sandwiches, there's no pate nor tons of mayo, just caramelized grilled pork deliciousness, with sweet pickled veggies and your preferred level of heat. I like mine spicy, just perfect with the sweetness! 5 stars for the fries! No, not the kimchi fries - I love kimchi, I love fries, the combination, with all the sauce and pork and everything, is just too busy for me. But the fries themselves are dark golden brown and outstanding with a little ketchup and/or mayo. 4 stars for the squid taco! Delicious, well balanced, and the soft taco shell is grilled and tasty, and not nearly as annoying as the bland, doughy steamed bao. I say skip the bao, and stick to the sandwiches on their outstanding panini/baguette style rolls. Plus there is street parking here, so its a bonus overall, and shorter lines compared to the other more crowded locations. I've tried all of their sandwiches, most are great, but with balanced flavours, yummy carmelized meat, and overall deliciousness. The pork belly and fried chicken club is also recommended and very good, but for me, their #1 grilled pork banh mi is always a winner, loaded with more juicy-seared meat than the belly sub has, plus it's also the cheapest sandwich on their menu! Really good place. Meals were constantly being cooked when I went, which means nothing was precooked/left to sit around like a lot of places.
