You can fill these tea bags with your loose leaf tea

Love this store for tea. I was looking for a particular tea--Ontario Ice Wine which I tried during Afternoon Tea at The Fairview Restaurant at Chateau Lake Louise. Surprisingly they carried it. The sales person brewed me a large cup so I can try it here. The selection is wide and the varieties of teas are very unique. The salesperson measured the loose leaves into a package and I was able to customize how much I wanted to buy. I took home 94g for about $25. They have interesting tea accessories too and I took home fillable compostable teabags for my loose leaf tea.

Banff Tea Company is a cute little shop located in downtown Banff. A must place to go if you love tea and or looking for souvenirs! Their store is full of aesthetically pleasing and organized rows and shelves of specialty teas. From green teas, black teas, spice, oolong, health and etc, they got you covered. Their teas are specialized and carefully blended together at a reasonable price point ($6.00-$10.00 for a 50 gram bag). I ended up getting: - "Knock Yourself Out" = Their #1 selling tea and is known to put you to sleep. Although I don't get the sleepy effects, it's a perfect cup of tea to whine down the day with. - "Plain of Six Glaciers" = Specialized for the area and only other place it is sold is at the tea house at Lake Louise. - "Cream of Earl Grey" = Provides a slight creamy taste to a classic earl grey. - "Rocky Mountain Christmas" = Smells like Christmas in a cup. They also brew a different tea in store every day to provide everyone a sample to sip on while shopping around. Cannot wait to return next time I'm in Banff!

If you're looking for one memento to take home from your time in Banff, skip the moose toys and plaid onesies and head to the Banff Tea Company. They offer an extraordinary variety of teas at very reasonable prices (generally between $7-$8 for a 50 gram bag), and make a light, easily-packable treat from your time in the Rockies. Many of their teas are loose, though they do offer some bagged varieties. A lot of them have a unique regional connection, such as the Plain of Six Glaciers variety, which is also sold at the Plain of Six Glaciers tea house at Lake Louise. One unusual flavor that I'm really digging on right now is the Nutcracker--a marzipan inspired rooibus tea that is Christmasy and delicious. They also sell all manner of tea towels and tea pots, and other paraphernalia. I've always had pleasant exchanges with the staff. They brew up a particular flavor for the day that you can sample while you browse. The shop is a bit a cozy and tiny, and might prove a challenge to navigate at high traffic times, but don't be deterred--this place is a find.

The lovely teapot I purchased at Banff Tea Co.!

The specialize in wood-fired dishes, so we made sure to lean into those options. We all sampled an appetizer order of grilled eggplant spears covered in olive oil and a sprinkle of cheese. Delish! My wife and I love wood-fired pizzas, so we went with the rotisseries chicken pie for our main (to share). It came piping hot, topped with rotisserie chicken chunks, chorizo, red onion slices, mushrooms, a cream sauce base and a chipotle ranch drizzle. Perfecto! They are also well known for their actual rotisserie chicken dish...but we'll have to save that for the next time.

Hits the Korean street food craving! So happy we found this place during our travels in Banff…read more We went during a raining weeknight and it was fairly crowded. At first the restaurant felt small but when you go in further you do notice they have sufficient seating. The restaurant is divided into two sections. When you first walk in you order your main meal at the counter straight ahead from the entrance. To order specialty drinks and deserts you go to the other section of the restaurant to your right. We ordered the bulgogi chicken bowl, the fried chicken bowl, vegetarian chicken bowls and a couple of mozzarella corn dogs. They were all very good. You can pick the level of spiciness and they have extra sauces near the counter that you can add to your bowl. We also ordered one of the bingsu (strawberry flavored shaved ice with ice cream, and fresh strawberries). It was really tasty. We also had the muscat grape drink. It does come carbonated and a little sweeter than anticipated. Overall we were happy with our meal. Happy enough that we are planning on going again before having to leave the area.

Everything is served in a paper cup, and you can decide if you want to dine-in at one of their small tables or take it to-go. Bowl #1 Korean BBQ bowl was the best, with marinated beef, egg strips, salad, and white rice. The menu said it was pork, but it tasted like beef to us. Bowl #6 Korean fried chicken and dumplings bowl was not bad, but the fried chicken wasn't Korean fried chicken. Korean fried chicken usually has a crispy coating and sometimes with a sweet and spicy glaze. Their "Korean fried" chicken had neither (1/2 star off). I still enjoyed the bowl, but it was more like a regular chicken and dumplings bowl. You can request to top your own sauce. They have bottles of garlic mayo, sweet chili sauce, ketchup, etc. in front for you to add as much as you want. This also means that the tables can be left with smears of random sauces. The staff does not clean tables (1/2 star off), so I had to do a thorough wipe-down of a sticky table before sitting down. After your meal, you can also try their bingsoo (Korean shaved ice). Those are probably sticky too...

Admittedly, I'm not much of a drinker but I'll have some once in a while and Bear Street seems to have a pretty good selection. I tried a Vietnamese Coffee Stout which I enjoyed. I'm definitely more of an eater than I am a drinker and the eats at Bear Street Tavern are excellent. My party got 2 pizzas and a salad and we enjoyed it all. To start we got the Tavern Bowl. It's a bunch of different vegetables with a Tahini Miso Dressing and kimchi on top. All the different textures and flavors worked really well together and the salad served as a nice break between bites of pizza. The Wheeler Hut pizza has mushrooms, ricotta, truffle oil, pesto, and mozzarella. If you're a fan of truffle flavor you'll enjoy this pizza. As soon as it was brought out I could already smell the truffle. The Mediterranean has olives, feta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, red onions, chili flakes, spinach, mozzarella, and balsamic glaze. A little busier than the Wheeler Hut, but it was equally delicious. I'm not sure which pizza I liked more. Both pizzas had a fantastic crust with some char. Substantial enough to stand up to the toppings but still a little doughy for a nice chew. The char gives a nice crunch as well. Service is quick and friendly and the prices are fair, especially in a tourist area. I definitely recommend Bear Street Tavern.

The place was pretty busy when we arrived for dinner. Things we tried: - Agedashi Tofu: fried tofu with a warm dashi. It was light and the dashi had nice flavor. (3.5/5 stars) - Karaage Chicken: the chicken was tender and well-seasoned. (3.5/5 stars) - Edamame: the edamame arrived at the end of our meal which was odd. It was also not cooked well and tasted like it could have been frozen and then warmed up. Disappointing. (1/5 stars) - Shoku Roll: the roll was pretty good with the salmon on top and negitoro inside. I wish they used less of the sauce and mayo on top or put it on the side instead, because it was a lot and was overpowering the fish. (4/5 stars) - Salmon Oyako Bowl: I liked the raw salmon and salmon roe part, however the cooked salmon was overcooked. The bowl also lacked flavor and required soy sauce, though I wish there was a different sauce to add to it. (4/5 stars) Overall for the food, it's okay. I'm from California so we have better food so I'm trying not to be too critical knowing it's in Banff. It's nice to have an izakaya spot in downtown Banff though. Service: mixed. The waiter was nice, however they seemed under-staffed. He had too many tables so service was slow and we struggled with flagging him down when we needed a refill or the check.
