While getting coffee at Zocolo, I stumbled upon Bancroft Cleaners & decided to bring in my blazer & sequined dress. My blazer buttons were well protected & nicely pressed. The sequined dress had some beads dangling by the thread so I hadn't realized that before bringing it to them & I didn't want to mend them & bring it back again, so I was taking a chance. To my surprise, the beads & sequins looked intact, so I was very pleased with that. The quote for the blazer was $12 & the sequined dress $13. I had dropped it off on a weekday & in 3 days time they had it ready for me. Service was great, so besides dry cleaning items, I would trust Bancroft Cleaners to help me with alterations in the near future. read more

Last spring, I brought my wool coat to this dry cleaner for cleaning before storing it for the season. When I took it out to wear again, I noticed the sleeves were much shorter. Unfortunately, too much time had passed to do anything about it. Despite that experience, I decided to give them another chance. A week ago, I brought in a beige pure silk shirt with sweat stains under the armpits for dry cleaning. Today, I went to pick it up and checked it immediately. The shirt was essentially the same, with the stains still visible. When I asked the cashier, a lady wearing glasses, she said the team (she always speaks as if she has nothing to do with them) was unable to clean it. I then requested a discount, considering they had already mishandled my coat and the shirt was still heavily stained. Even though the service only cost $8, it wasn't fair to pay full price for an incomplete job. She curtly replied that discounts and such matters weren't her responsibility. I've been going here for years and have spent a lot of money there. Tried to drop my clothes a couple of Saturdays ago, but they had closed 30 minutes early, and the lady inside wouldn't let me in. It is completely unacceptable for a business that people rely on to be open at certain times to do this. Will not be back. Found a new cleaners with much better customer service. read more

I generally don't ever use dry cleaning or have anything that needs to be dry cleaned. Unfortunately, my cat peed on my down comforter. Bancroft Cleaners did a fabulous job cleaning the comforter. It looks great, smells fresh (no fragrance added) , folded beautifully, and was saved. read more

This cleaners is HORRIBLE. I was mortified that they lost my clothesline they offered ABSOLUTELY NO REMEDY to help me locate them. They Treated me like I was an idiot and said if I had no receipt then I was out of luck. Upon further inspection I found, I discovered that they failed to properly enter my information into their system. This was after I luckily found my receipt. Their staff is incompetent. The lady entered my name under someone else's account. If I hand not found my receipt, I would be out of $300 dollars worth of clothes and $46.50 for the cleaning fees. Please do not patronize this place. If they lose your clothes, your just out of luck. Period. They don't wear masks either. BTW- They are not abiding by the Alameda County Health orders for COVID19. I arrived before the business closed today only to find the employee leaving early. I needed my clothes and the employee acted as if it was passed closing time. I told her I needed my clothes as I had an important meeting the next day. This employee was un professional, rude and out right inconsiderate. At one point it appeared that she was more interested in leaving early than offering a paying customer good service. I had a problem before with this business breaking buttons on my clothes, not disclosing this information when I picked them up but decided to give a second chance and this happened. I know they are hiring by the signs in the window however this business needs to screen the applicants a bit better to represent the business in a more positive light. read more

Lee is an unprofessional idiot. So i had a jacket brought in and it needed to be sewed and some stains needed to be taken out. He was at work all day and the girl up front said he said to tell me when i came in that it wasn't ready. If you knew ahead of time i was coming in today to get my stuff why not call me?? I took a suit to Bancroft Cleaners to be cleaned. When I picked it up, the skirt was damaged. It had a small hole in it and pulled threads. I asked to see the manager, who was in the cleaners and the clerk said he was busy. The clerk showed him the skirt, and he sent her back to me with excuses. He said he was not responsible for the damage, and would not give me a refund for the cleaning. I cannot recommend this cleaners to anyone because of poor customer service. Hazel O. read more

SAME DAY SERVICE hours are FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! I woke up early and checked Yelp to find same day dry cleaners in my area. I saw I had to have my dress in by noon. I worked around the house and arrived to Bancroft Cleaners at 11AM. The girl at the front said they are not doing same day service anymore for today. I turned around and said your window outside says noon to 5PM. She said yeah we are not doing it. I said well what time should I have brought it in by, and she said she didn't know. I had stopped getting things dry cleaned for a couple of years as I have been doing most things on gentle cold, drip dry with a light iron or fluff. Yes, most things that say dry clean only can be gently washed at home. However, I needed some alterations, cleanings and some new zippers put in. Everything was fantastic. Alterations were perfect. They went shopping for a special zipper for a north face fleece - perfect match. They did a beautiful drycleaning job on a red silk dress. They did a pretty good job altering my jeans. I didn't request the original hem ($18) and instead opted for plain ol' hems ($12) which look just as good as the originals. Alterations = good job and I'll use them again. I'm taking off a star for the dry cleaning. My sweater came back smelling clean, but not looking so. They did a good job with the other pieces I brought in, but I'm not entirely sure they did anything with this sweater that I couldn't have done with a bottle of Febreeze. read more

I have to give this local dry cleaning establishment my highest grade because they really helped me out in a jiffy-- I needed the Santa Claus outfit from my work holiday program cleaned pronto so that my coworker could use it at her story time program and I needed it in a short turnaround time-- It had to be done by a Tuesday morning at the latest. The helpful and friendly staff from Bancroft Cleaners assured me they could get it done as early as Monday night! Props for great open hours-- they close at 6:30 on Saturdays. read more

Had to continually bring back my clothes for missed stains still on garments even after marking with tape, they still missed stains tagged!!!! I come back in to have clothes cleaned when I pick up the stains are still there I ask for the manager he comes out takes the coat finally removing stains and then greets me with a attitude??? I too have been going to this location for years. My most recent visit will be the absolute LAST TIME I give them any business whatsoever. I purchased a $200 pair of pants and after wearing them twice, I took them in to get laundered, NOT DRY CLEANED. When I dropped them off, I was very specific about them being washed and ironed, yet they dry cleaned them anyway. The Manager, Choong Lee, was contacted multiple times by the employees to return, but claimed he was already at home s home in San Jose. After multiple calls from his staff, he "miraculously" showed up in 20 minutes. Basically, he lied to his employees and left them to fend for his mistake. The two cashiers were very pleasant and made every effort to resolve the issue and tried to get Choong Lee to pay for the damages. Stephany was the employee that took the pants and wrote the order, so you may want to make sure she enters your order correctly. Fast forward..... the owner will not return my calls and they basically said, "sue me in small claims court". read more

I have had some issues with buttons missing on occasion or more recently with stains on top of the collar stays. I brought back 5 shirts 2 weeks ago for redo and cleaning and they have no record of them. My receipt was lost and there is no record on their computer. I am out $500.  The manager and the employee I worked with say it did not happen although the young lady I worked with admitted that she had no memory of me picking up my shirts 2 weeks ago. This past Saturday the young lady remembered. Now she has no recollection that I was there.  Unfortunately, no compensation after years of being a loyal customer. Expensive lesson in . Last words to me were we have facts, we have evidence that I was there a month ago. Called back with the possibility of resolving the issue of my presence in June. NO CAMERAS. read more

My family had been patronizing this cleaners for years. However, the pass couple years the service the attitudes are very unprofessional, OMG the manager was worse. Took my San Francisco jacket to be cleaned and it came back ruined. Immediately went back to let them know they had ruined my jacket and everyone there began to lie that the jacket was like that when they receive it. The way the jacket came back who in there right mind would have it cleaned and why would the cleaners accept it that way. I rarely write reviews but felt I needed to share this experience with everyone who reads reviews. I have been going here for many years. I used to love the place when it was owned by the previous owner. I recently brought in a coat that has leather buckles on the belt and sleeves. I asked them to wrap the buckles to prevent damage. When I went to pick up the coat, I could see the belt buckle was in good shape but it was obvious they had not protected the sleeve buckles and they are completely damaged. When I complained, the clerk brought another man over and he said they are not responsible because of the sign on the wall. I had already paid so just left. Both the clerk and the man (manager) offered NO APOLOGIES. I know it can't fix the issue but apologies go a long way when you pay for shoddy service. Sad but I will be looking for a new dry cleaner. this is our default cleaner since they're convenient, quick, and efficient. our clothes have come back smelling clean -- pants and shirts freshly pressed. we haven't had a problem with them. i'd give them five stars if they adopt more earth friendly cleaning methods. read more

I Patronized this place because the cleaners I had been going to were tearing the lining in my clothes an so without yelping to see the ratings, I took some very nice dresses to this place and did not bother to check them when I picked up my clothes. I did not realize the lining of the dress was ripped until I decided to wear it to work and on another dress which was black, there appeared to be something white and crusty stuck to my dress, I did'nt want to know what it was. I tossed the dresses and will never go back to this place. They have no customer service skills, the young girl at the counter doesn't greet you and she doesn't smile. overall this place sucks, oh and they burned my friends shirt. read more

I've been going to this place for years. Most recently I notice the quality of work decreasing. I had a dress that had a snap on it that they broke and the ruffles weren't pressed correctly. I shrugged that off and went back after vowing to go some where else in the future. I took 2 dresses there ($28) two womens blazzers($21) and one man's dress shirt. The grand total came to $55.00...Just highway robbery. I took my items back and went the next nearest cleaners which was half the price. read more

I've only frequented this cleaners twice; on my second visit I had a pair of white linen pants cleaned...NO stains. When I went to pick up my item, I noticed a stain; which they offered to redo. They were unable to remove the stain that happened while my item was in their possession. I asked for a claim form to file for them to take responsibility because there's nothing I can do with stained white linen pants...and was not offered one; instead I got the run-around of who I needed to speak with and unanswered calls/messages. read more

Took my clothes to this cleaners since I moved to the area. Prices were high and still I put my clothes in. Couple days later I get a call stating that a pair of my pants couldn't be cleaned because there was ink all over them. There wasn't any ink on them when I put them in. The lady stated it was because I washed them. I told her that I never have washed those pants they had always been taken to the cleaners. Well I picked them up today and they were ruined. It looks like they tried to clean them and then realized they messed them up so they stopped and said they were brought in like this. WOW this was my first and last time at this cleaners. read more

Let me start by saying I can't do this cleaners with all good intentions after day lost my clothing and one previous visit so I brought in three pairs of pants with the expressed instructions of dry clean only someone in this establishment took it upon himself to take a 70 dollar pair of jeans and wash them in hot water needless to say they fit me like a pair of speedos when I put them on later and this obstinate owner decides to give me 40 for a pair of 70 pants making it seem as though it's my fault that someone in his establishment decided to wash them because the tag on the jeans says machine wash even though I brought them in to be dry cleaned I will never do business with this establishment again and I would advise anyone else if you care about your clothing to not patronize Bancroft cleaners they do not follow directions they lose your stuff and they're not going to give you fair value or replace items if they are damaged. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Bancroft Cleaners for over 10 years, way before they expanded. Early on the owner was always there and was friendly and would cut us a price break because we were loyal. Now the prices have gone up and the quality has gone WAY down. Just recently my husband took in 6 shirts for routine cleaning and 2 came back RIPPED open at the back! And numerous times buttons have been broken off of his shirts. I had a dress cleaned recently with some stains that I clearly marked and went over with the gal up front, and not one was cleaned. We are moving on to the Pelton Center cleaners on here... I hope we can be as loyal to them as we were to Bancroft :( read more

I was very disappointed with my experience here. I had a strapless, chiffon dress cleaned here and it came back with holes in it. The operator had pinned the actual dress to the hanger. When I went in to complain about the holes and ask why they didn't pin it to the hanger straps the owner told me that it was her employee's fault and asked me if I spoke Spanish. Apparently she couldn't communicate my dissatisfaction because of the language barrier, so she wanted me to tell her what she'd done wrong. This is not the kind of service I would expect from any dry cleaner worth it's salt. read more
