When you have had really excellent Thai food it sets the bar high. Truth is I have never really had terrible Thai food, except for maybe trying one of those frozen Thai cuisine dinners from a grocery store which are nasty by the way. Ban Moon is not the best Thai I have ever had but it will definitely satisfy your craving. In my experience, Thai restaurants are not really known for their atmosphere, which was no different here. We had the Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and Pad Ginger. The Pad Ginger was a bit too heavy on the onions, Pad Thai was good, and my Pad Kee Mao was good and had some baby bok choi in it which was a nice touch. I grew up in Seattle so I feel like my bar for Thai food is set pretty high. I read the reviews before we stopped here and even though, I was suspicious that the food would be this good in the middle of nowhere Texas. I don't even know where to begin but everything we got was amazing. The vegetables were fresh, the sauce was good, just the right amount of spice. I feel like I have discovered a gem. Wasn't a fan the rangoons. I feel like there wasn't a whole lot of meat in it and it was mush. Did it taste good? Yea it was good but I wouldn't get it again. The fried rice was pretty good! Ordered take out and the food was so hot it melted a palm-sized hole straight through the styrofoam. I realized this when I got home, so I called to let them know to prevent future errors. The employee's response: "Well it comes straight off the wok so if half the boxes get burnt, I guess that's how it is." When I informed her that the chemicals of the styrofoam get into the food, "Oh well. That's how it comes from the wok." I guess they don't care then. 4.7 Stars Location Overview: This restaurant is right behind Stripes on Ave N and S Bryant. The parking is very limited (caution to those with bigger trucks and trailers). The outside has a small banner with the restaurant name--sometimes can be missed if you aren't looking or if you are looking too hard. The inside has great coverage for seats and walking space for staff to move around. This restaurant is very clean, never had any hair, bugs or other surprises in the food. Customer Service: I see different staff every time I come here. I never see the same one person working here. Any staff member I have dealt with has been amazing, nice and helpful. I am not sure if this restaurant is a seasonal type position or the kids here are not lastly, this is the main thing that concerns me. I am greeted right away when I walk through the door, the staff like to jump right into you eating which can sometimes make you feel a little rushed. Because I see new people all the time I get flustered when I ask about a certain dish and the ingredients, but the staff is not too sure what it contains. This sometimes becomes problem when dealing with peanut allergies. It would be great to see this establishment stay consistent with their staff. Quantity/Quality: The quantity of the food is about your average size for Asian food. Portions are quite large, you get what you pay for. However, the biggest problem I see this restaurant struggling with is the quantity of the meat portions. In most of the food there is very little meat and this is a big deal. If someone orders the house style fried rice, it comes with a hand full of meat and five hand fulls of rice, many times I am searching for the meat. The quality of the food is as good as it gets........for San Angelo. I think many people forget that San Angelo is a TexMex kind of town so mostly you will find mexican/american restaurants that are out of this world. The Asian food industry is slowly coming up but from other places that I have tried in San Angelo, Ban Moon is the only restaurant with the consistency in food quality. While traveling from IL to TX, we wanted Thai and came across Ban Moon. The staff was so nice! Our daughter's friend said it was the best chicken fried rice she's ever had. Two of us had the yellow curry and refried rice....OH MY, it was exceptionally yummy! My husband had the mom's special and he enjoyed it, but wished it had a bit more special sauce. I regret that we didn't take pics, but we took it to go, so that's less photo worthy. Would definitely go here again! read more

Excellent first time! I had the red curry with chicken take off bamboo and add pineapple. With steamed rice and it was the best! My roomie had the Tom Yun Goong soup with steam soup. Both were super. I've been lucky enough to visit Thailand and I got a chance to try authentic Thai food. That being said, I am more critical with "Thai food" in America. I'll just say-- it's delicious and the closest I've found to the real thing. I'd drive out of my way to come back here. Food is on the pricey side, but like I said... it's worth it. I love Asian food! Ban Moon serves up FRESH ingredients in all their food. The Thai Tea was PERFECT!!!! It was so creamy and GOOD. I ate the Pad Thai and it was so delicious!!!!! The carrots, the green onions, the pork...everything was FRESH! I gobbled everything down!!! The restaurant itself is clean. From what little I could see of the kitchen from the view by the register area, it looked very clean. You can HEAR the food being cooked!!! The sizzling sounds spoke volumes! The lobby is spacious and accommodating. Lots of room for large groups. I would definitely recommend you to give this place a try! Wow this was a great place to eat and didn't expect great Thai in San Angelo. I am in town for 2 more days and will definitely eat here both days. Had the Drunken Beef Pad Key which I thoroughly enjoyed. Flavors were great with just a hint of heat. Service was outstanding and my server Sheidy W (shady ) was fantastic. I am usually stingy with my fivers but if there is a place in San Angelo that can and does serve a Tom Yum made with galanga, kaffir lime leaves an lemon grass they are gonna get it. How authentic is that? How can I be sure you ask? I pulled each from my soup, laid it on a plate. When I asked the waitress to identify them she could not and thought I was about to complain. Are here for lunch, and stepped out on a limb and tried their Pad Kra Pao and really enjoyed it. To be completely honest I don't have a reference for Pad as I've never had it. The fried rice was on par with most places in San Angelo. One friend got curry and another for sweet and sour. Both really enjoyed their food and quality. First day in Texas and was so excited to see there was a Thai restaurant. I ordered the drunken noodles, but was extremely disappointed. The noodles weren't the right type of noodle. The flavor profile was completely off. There was no "Wok Heat" as the Chinese say. While I appreciate that there were plenty of vegetables, not all belonged in Drunken Noodles. I chose this place because of the reviews. There were people coming in for take out the whole time I was there so it's clearly a local favorite. I ordered the combination pho, chicken satay, and a shrimp tempura roll. I was under impressed to say the least. The pho was not anywhere near traditional, the broth was very cloudy and full of red onions. The chicken satay was huge, under flavored, but the peanut sauce was good. 4.5 San Angelo hasn't always been the the oasis of new and exotic cuisine. It was a great surprise to have a Thai place here. Because West Texas is a great place to get a great foothold. The menu is a curveball to those who have never heard or tried Thai or who only know General Tso or Beef and Broccoli. We had the Pad Kra Pao and the Combination Pho with Chicken Satay. It was great. What I like is that this place uses go to asian menu regulars to get you in then seal the deal with the inventive, very unique, and tasty menu. Even during the lunch rush, the staff was attentive and answered our questions. The only downside is the parking. This restaurant is at one of the weirder intersections here. However the tight parking is a indicator of how great the food is. If you want to get away from the standard menus at 99% of our Chinese places this one will be a great place to start. read more

Every time I go to a Thai restaurant I base my first impression from their Pad Thai. Based on this habit, the first time I went to Ban Moon I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai. Size: For only ~$8.50, the amount of Pad Thai you get with the Chicken Pad Thai is enough for two servings. Since I was so hungry from a light breakfast and since the food was so good, I barely managed to finish the meal in one sitting. Great for big groups/parties: I came to Ban Moon during lunch with some co-workers, they were able to easily accommodate about 10 of us without a reservation. The restaurant isn't too big nor too small. Nevertheless, the place is a great place for lunch without too many people. Quickness: With the restaurant at half capacity, the wait for my food only took about 10 minutes. For those with quick lunch breaks, I would definitely recommend this place for its efficiency. The only improvements I would have with the Chicken Pad Thai is that I wish it would've came with more peanuts to eat and a side lime to squeeze onto my meal. read more
