Can't I put a 4.5 up there? Very nice, consistent Thai dishes served up by a friendly and attentive staff. My wife's favorite cuisine is Thai, which we've eaten in many restaurants and the many places we've called home. Bambu Thai holds the top spot among her all time favorites. We've tried several other Thai places within a few miles of Bambu - but it's the place we usually end up when we don't want to take any chances - knowing the food will be great. Our favorites are: Pad Woon Sen, Shrimp Rolls, Drunken Noodles, Bamee Noodle with Wonton (our latest love). Now - about that 4.5... what keep is from being a 5? Location and atmosphere. But to be fair, is the best Thai food ever served in a really nice building? read more

Have lived in area for almost 20 years. Always have taken out from them and very happy with service and food. January of 2022 stopped ordering from there! Found a band-aid in my Summer roll I actually chewed on it thinking "this part is really tough" and took it out and saw what it was, started to gag! I should have taken a picture and showed them what was in it but was just shocked not wearing gloves to prepare food??? Not ever going back! read more

Great take out near Elmhurst. The basil chicken is outstanding - ask for it extra spicy if that is your thing. The Lard Nar is also excellent, but my favorite is their panang curry. I swear I could go swimming in it. Great food - great service - great value. read more

Not good, the sampler was very crispy if not burnt, the egg rolls tasted like something from Jewel although I think Jewels are better. Pad Thai - barely passed Yellow Curry Chicken = Ok White Rice = Dry really dry. read more

I've upped Bambu to 3 stars - decent Thai for the immediate area. Clean inside the restaurant, very attentive service. I am addicted to their summer rolls and to their spicy shrimp and eggplant dish. We've tried some of the other dishes as well, and they are good. Bambu has stepped it up and is now our go to place for quick takeout thai in Elmhurst. read more

One word: DELICIOUS! I came here for lunch with some peers from work back in September. At first, I was a little reluctant, as I swore I had already tried the best Thai food in the Chicago-land area. Turns out I was wrong. Bambu exceeded all expectations! Their eggrolls are phenomenal and the chicken pad-thai is definitely one of my favorites. Thank you, Bambu! read more

I order the duck curry everytime I try a Thai restaurant, normally I'm disappointed because I have had the best in the past and nothing ever compares. Anyway I couldn't believe it, I'd say this is the second best I've ever had! My advise would be to hold the green peas, they just don't add anything to the dish and they are actually kind of hard. I also ordered the tom kha soup, which normally I don't like but I thought I would give it a try, to my surprise it was actually the best tom kha soup I've ever eaten. And lastly I ordered the crab Rangoon, it was the perfect ratio of wonton wrapper and crab cream cheese mix. I hate when there is too much wonton. Overall it seems to be the best Thai food in my area, I wish they delivered. read more

I have been driving past this place for a few months, and we really wanted some Thai food. The food was excellent, the service was friendly albeit a little slow. I had the Spicy bamboo Chicken. It was excellent. My wife had the Pad Thai with Sanbal on the side. Also, very nice. It was prepared in a sweet tasting sauce that mixed very well with the lime and the peanuts. For dessert we had the mango and sticky rice, which was excellent. Overall, a leading candidate to become our favorite Thai restaurant. read more

I've lived in Chicago for quite some time and have grown accustomed to awesome Thai food from places like Star of Siam, Spoon Thai and Pennies noodle shoppe. This place can't touch those places, but it comes in a good second place to them. Glad we found this place now that we are out in the burbs. Now for the review.... The food here was great, atmosphere was decent and casual. I did notice that the service was a bit on the slow side. We were 1 of 3 small groups of people there, so it wasn't crowded. It seems to me that the focus of the 2 ladies working the place was take out and carry out. I found myself wanting some extra things like soy sauce or chili paste, but the ladies were both back in the kitchen. We had to wait for them to come out of the kitchen and get their attention. (This is a major reason I gave 3 instead of 4 stars) Tom Yum soup is one of my favorite soups, and this pace didn't let me down there. The broth was on the lighter side, but it made it a very enjoyable soup. The pad Thai was great, although the color of the noodles was a bit surprising at first, (The sauce turns them an almost reddish color, I'm used to them being a more natural color), but the flavor was right on. We also had the green curry, the hottest curry on the menu. It was a great flavorful curry. It tastes like it's been simmering all day, but the veggies in it are crisp and fresh. I want to go back and try the other curries there. All in all not a bad experience. I'd go back again and would recommend it to my friends. Just expect sluggish service if you dine in. read more

This is a pretty decent thai option, especially if you're just DONE with Oak Brook. I liked what I had, the yellow curry, and we shared dumplings. It's very small, service is brisk, and there's nothing special about it but nothing I can take issue with. I didn't find it as spicy and delicious as my favorite thai places, but I'd gladly visit again. That's what I hate about three star reviews - they're the least compelling, in my book. Three stars for three star reviews. read more

Here, whether you're dressed nicely or totally casual, you're in the appropriate attire. The ambiance is laid back but also date friendly, and the decor suggests a place with higher prices than the reasonably-priced fare Bambu offers. (Not the cheapest, but most items are around $8.95, give or take a buck--and if you call that expensive you gotta be kidding. In fact, I would not want them to charge any less for what they have.) You really can't go wrong here. This place just might ruin you for other Thai restaurants. I am also a fan of Benjarong (the place hidden away behind Jewel in Westchester), but Bambu even beats them, hands down. I've usually been there when it's not busy, so there's just one server, but the one server has always been good. Fortunately business has been picking up, but not as much as I would like to see it increase. Therefore, everyone who reads this must go in the next two weeks--that is an order! (And try something else besides Pad Thai for once in your life!) read more

I've been coming here for half of my life, absolutely the best Thai food in town. I don't even live in Elmhurst anymore and I still come to town to pick up Togo orders. read more

Don't have to tell me twice---no thanks! We were the only table in on this particular night and I know why--the disinfectant (hopefully) smell and the freezing bathroom may be part of the reason The server/greeter/cashier/possible cook was less than friendly or accommodating. It really seemed like he was doing us a favor by serving us our less than good food. The Tom um soup was blah the dumplings were passable and the entrees (all served in the same weird boat shape dish) were nothing to write home about. Sorry Yelpers, but uh uh. read more

Bland, bland, bland! The pad Thai had zero flavor. Ordered it spicy and had zero heat. They cut up big chicks of cabbage in strips and mixed it with the 3-4 bean sprouts they provided. Also ordered crab rangoons which tasted like donut balls. Couldn't taste the cream cheese or the crab. I'm shocked this joint is 3.5 stars. Maybe because they make up for it with huge portions. And I mean HUGE. I'd pass and go to another joint if I were you. read more

If you want authentic, delectable, reasonably priced Thai food and generous portions, you can give Bambu Thai a try. This is a Mom and Pop restaurant with the usual Thai decorations in the restaurant. It is small but comfortable enough for eating in the restaurant (or carry out if you happen to live in the area). I have a friend who lives in Elmhurst, IL so this was an easy place for us to meet for lunch. We've eaten here several times for both lunch and/or dinner, and we've never had a negative experience. The service is decent and not very effusive. This is a great place to go for a catch up session with a friend, because it is quiet and the servers are not intrusive. I can rarely finish my food here, so if I go for lunch I will eat the other half for dinner (same day). I like their pineapple chicken fried rice as well as the Thai noodles loaded with pineapple and pieces of chicken breast. Most of their noodle dishes here are fairly good. We usually order different dishes and share the food. The spring rolls are really, really pretty flavorful. They are not soggy. They are perfectly crispy, but not greasy. We always get these as an appetizer whenever we go here. The plum sauce is delectable. I rate the service with 3-1/2 stars and the food receives 4-stars. Our water glasses were filled regularly and we were asked if "everything was okay" and "do you need anything else?" Parking is easy. The restaurant is not visible from the street, so it is easy to miss. The price-point receives 4-stars. Portions are generous, and it is definitely worth a try especially if you enjoy authentic Thai food and/or live in this area. The restaurant is next door to a church with a tall steeple, and across the street from a fast-food restaurant (I think McDonald's) which makes it easier to find. The restaurant is located on the East side of York Road (in between a gas station and church). Did we enjoy our experience? Was the food fairly good? Were the portions decent? Was service okay? Yes, yes, yes, and yes! read more

I have not been back since they changed owners or chefs. The last time I ordered, the food was so greasy it made me sick for days. Have not been back since. I also found out that another local Thai restaurant, Benjarong Thai has the same cook because when I ordered, it was the exact same recipe. I asked if the restaurant was related to Bambu Thai and she said they use the same chefs. Sorry to see this place go downhill. It was my go-to for Thai. I was so disgusted from my last experience which was over a year ago - I have no desire to ever go back. Lastly, I miss the old hostess. She was great! She moved back to Vietnam. It all went downhill when she left. read more

The food is great and reasonably priced. We generally get take out, so can speak to how service is.

AVERAGE! I work in the area, so I've ordered here a few times. Its been accurate, hot, and good each time. But that's it--just good. I've had the pad thai, spicy chicken, beef & peapods. Several good options. I usually do takeout, but decided to do dine-in once. The presentation was nice- big serving boats. My guest was a picky eater, and he was happy with the meal. I like other Thai places over 20 miles away, so this place fits the bill for the area. Great spring rolls with peanut sauce! read more

We had dinner on a weekday. The service was not that great. The server wasn't very personable and hung out in the kitchen the entire time. The pot stickers and tom yum soup were pretty good. The wonton soup was bland, so was the pad thai. The cashew chicken was good. Entree portions were decent size. It was warm out and very humid inside. They had some fans on low but they should've had the A/C on. read more

I've been here for lunch and the food was pretty good or maybe I was just really hungry. Tonight we picked up take out -chicken teriyaki, pad thai and crab rangoon. The pad thai was totally flavorless, the noodles and chicken had a pink hue and it was very greasy and the crab rangoon dough was raw and the entire thing gross. The only edible item was the chicken teriyaki and it was nothing special. Needless to say I was really annoyed to have wasted money and calories on terrible food. read more

Went there on a Thursday night with a friend. Not at all crowded. Ordered chicken satay and Thai spring rolls. Very good. But my entree was green curry chicken, which was among the best I've ever had. The chicken was clearly fresh; it didn't have that "frozen" taste that's typical of Asian restaurants. My favorite Thai place in the burbs. read more

This is actually one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the suburbs. The Tom Kha Gai (chicken in coconut milk soup with lemon grass, galangas, lime juice) is a fantastic appetizer to split between a couple of people and I absolutely love the Duck Pineapple Curry. The Khaaw Niaw Ma-Muang (fresh mango w/ sticky rice) is great way to finish off the meal too. Don't forget to compliment that with a Beer Singha, Thai beer at its finest. Every time I've been to Bambu Thai I've been served by the same people and they are really nice. So go for the food, for the service, and for the respectable prices. I lived in Bangkok for six months and since returning I've been in search of good Thai food in the Chicago area. I include Bambu Thai in my list of good restaurants. read more

Best Thai in Elmhurst! Great place to dine in or carry out. My kids love Pad See Ew and I love green curry with Shrimp. Fresh comfort food that you can fill up on and not feel too stuffed after. Lots of parking and large eat in area. Wish they delivered! read more

Chicken Satay was practically rubber. It was overcooked by a mile. I had panang noodle chicken. The panang was old, over cooked, and separating. The noodles were either burnt (past crispy) or complete mush like they were cooked an hour ago. Chicken in this dish was also rubber. Veggies were also mush. Only have two stars because wife said her lard nar was ok. read more

Service is poor! You order an entree and you get a huge boat dish. My dish was not mixed well so the top of the dish has all the vegetables and meat and the bottom has all the noodles. Well where's the waiter so I can get a plate and mix it myself? Oh, he's playing on his cell phone and I feel as if I'm doing him a disfavor for being a customer. The food itself has a weird/almost burnt taste to it. I love Thai food and have been to many Thai restaurants around the chicagoland area and this place comes in low on the totem pole as far as ranking goes. I've been here a couple times and ordered take out before due to the fact that I work in the area. The food was never anything great but I kept hoping it'd get better...well tonight broke the camels back. Check please! read more

Great food and fast service. Price is also very reasonable for the amount you get. Definitely my go to restaurant for Thai food!

Consistently good food and good service. Love the Panang curry chicken, extra spicy! Glad to have found this little gem. Always busy for a hole in the wall place and there's a reason why! read more

We order take-out at least 3 times a month from Bambu. The food is fresh, on time, and accurate. We love the green curry, vegetarian egg rolls, tom ka soup, and fried rice (both the vegetable & chicken). It isn't greasy or heavy but the portions are substantial and delicious. I find them to be flavored well. Family owned and well worth supporting. read more

Excellent little Thai restaurant. Their Red curry is awesome! Great place for takeout. Also HUGE portions!! Their spice level is also "Thai spicy". We got spicy once and could not eat it - always go with their regular or mild if you can't handle too much spice. My only thing is they skimp on the rice during takeout - they need to serve some more rice for takeout customers. read more

Yesterday was my first time eating at this restaurant. I would not recommend for several reasons. The service is extremely poor. The only 1 person that worked the tables took a long time to ask our order and once he did come over there was no greeting just a quick order. When he brought our dishes my friends dish was not what we both expected..... we have both ordered this type of dish lad nar..... and it never looked this way. We tell him this and basically he says it's just the way it is. My friend didn't like it and he didn't offer a replacement or anything. I went to find the owner and she was just as rude.... yet when I asked him if he was the owner he said that they both were just employees.... so not sure for the lying.... they started to speak in their native language so I wouldn't understand. It was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. read more

For as long as I've worked in Elmhurst, I can remember ordering from Bambu Thai. Their pad thai is simply unbeaten in the Elmhurst area. Truth be told, I haven't gotten much farther than that because usually when I'm craving pad thai, I go here. Service is always friendly. The portions are huge and the price is fair. read more

I got the beef pad thai and I didn't like it at all, I added some spices and it still didn't work. I like the big portion size, but I was disappointed for the most part. The crab ragoon was good, but I've had better. read more

Server rarely showed up or refilled water. Pad Thai was bland, had to add tons of chili paste to make it taste like something and it also lacked cilantro, sprouts and carrots. Service was super slow! read more

How was the food? I can't really say since, after 45 minutes, I had to ask my food to be wrapped up to go. Headed to a meeting. By the time I was able to eat my pad thai, it was bleh. But seriously? I arrive at 11:45AM and it takes you until 12:30PM to bring out my dish??? And not one apology. Yeah, no thanks. read more

The Thai Iced Tea is still delicious and authentic, but I have to improve the rating for the food. They've gotten better with it, and it's spicyER but still not the level of hot you normally associate with Thai. Ask for hot sauce to be piled on. read more

Warm up to winter by checking out the food at the Bambu Thai restaurant. Thai food is definitely more explosive in flavor than any other Asian cuisine. Thai food uses a variety of spices making it exotically flavorful. The lime, known in the Thai language as the "Mangao," is used in a variety of Thai dishes. The main role of the lime is to repress the salt in any fish dishes. Have you ever heard of the three S's in preparing Thai food? The salty, sour, and spicey round out the exotic flavors in each Thai dish here. Bambu has the ability to infuse these flavors (salty, sour and spicey) like a beautiful fragrant orchid. The flavors are perfectly balanced and well harmonized. Ambiance: Casual, cozy, warm lighting and decorated in the fairly typical Thai-theme that one expects to see at other Thai restaurants. Service: Family-owned, friendly and welcoming service. The service here is two-star. It is decent, but we have experienced better at other places. They are attentive to filling water glasses, but will leave you to enjoy your meal. Recommendations: Spring rolls (appetizer) -- Everyone in our group agreed that these deserved a triple-thumbs up (we even ordered seconds). Any dish with noodles or rice is fairly good (we enjoyed the pineapple and chicken fried rice). We have tried other dishes with seafood and/or beef. They were all fantastically fabulicious. When we lived in River North we frequented the Star of Siam on a weekly basis. It was walking distance to our highrise. The food at the Bambu Thai is flavorful, well-balanced, and exhuberant. However, I cannot compare it to the Star of Siam (which I believe has the best Thai food in the City), because there is only one Star of Siam (need I say more). read more

If you are looking for a good, authentic Thai restaurant, this will not be good choice. I order tom yum soup, not taste anything like real tom yum soup. It's tasteless. I also order pad see eww with shrimp. The fish is extremely sweet, Shrimp is so soft and melt in my mouth even I didn't bite yet. It taste disgusting like these shrimps have been there a long time. I don't understand how these people can give good reviews about this restaurant but I think this is the worst restaurant I have ever been. Customer service sucks. Never come and ask anything. I asked for fish sauce and they says they don't have because American people don't like it. They cook Thai food with no fish sauce? I will not recommend this restaurant. read more

Nice server... Restaurant was empty... Appetizers, food, and Thai Iced Tea was very disappointing... Big portion sizes

One of the best thai places in the burbs; everyone is so friendly and the green curry is to die for!!
