The food was good. The smell of the restaurant was very unappealing as I read in reviews before we went to. Wall of the smell of cigarette smoke was far too harsh for my wife and I to even attempt it. Whatever it was smelled terrible. The server was very friendly when he came to our table but he only came to take our order and to give our ticket. We were not able to find anyone when we wanted refills on our drinks. We are venturing out and trying new foods. Tonight we tried Vietnamese at Bambus. It was tasty!! We had the shrimp appetizer which was scrumptious. The appetizer was delivered quickly to the table but we waited awhile for our dinner. It was very much worth the wait tho. I had Lemongrass Beef and it was absolutely delicious. Full of flavor! I was between 2 & 3 stars on this restaurant before settling on 2. To begin, the food is good. I got an order of Cha gio and Pho Tai. Nothing to complain about with either dish. Not the best I've eaten, but not bad. So why just 2 stars? The restaurant is decorated like a Vietnamese jungle. And it appears their ceiling and walls have been subject to a rainforest. Soooo many water stains on the tiles. Stains on walls. Exposed electrical wires just hanging out of the walls. The floor seemed clean and in good shape and they had nice tables and booths. Behind the bar, there is so much clutter the walkway seems impassable. If you have cigarette smoke allergies, your sinuses will swell shut the moment you walk in the door. The wait staff was pleasant, but a little rude when I was ordering. I learned my pronunciation of menu items from a Vietnamese man that barely speaks English. Admittedly, I do not SPEAK Vietnamese. But I went ahead and gave the titles a shot. I was laughed at and rudely corrected by someone as white as I am. Is that really the time to make a point? The Pho here is second best in Springfield, in my opinion. But I doubt I will return because of the restaurant condition and the fact that I can get better food for less money somewhere else. read more

I'm debating on how to rate this review. As Susan mentioned, for Springfield, this is certainly a 5-star place, but for us from California, it's not so hot. I took some of my family there, and honestly they aren't too adventurous when it comes to trying new things, but I had good feedback from them. This place is just slightly off the mark in regards to authentic Vietnamese food, but it is certainly close. For instance, in the pho ga, the chicken should have the skin on it; the bun dishes should have fried scallions, etc. For those of you who want to know, this is straight up Vietnamese cuisine, and has nothing to do with Chinese food. The only caveat to that is bubble tea, or boba, originated from Taiwan, but I digress. Their pho is delicious. This is southern style pho as it comes with bean sprouts, cilantro, lime, and jalapeno on the side; the staff even suggested adding Hoisin sauce to the pho (which completely ruins the broth by the way). My mom ordered the pho ga (chicken pho) and really loved the broth. I tried to get her to slurp her noodles, but she refused. I ended up ordering the bun thit nuong cha gio (vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and egg roll). This came with a small dish of fish sauce, which is meant to be dumped in its entirety over your bun. The only thing I could deduce that was missing was fried scallions. The staff was great and very helpful. I was a little confused as the service is certainly tailored for the area; normally Vietnamese servers take your order immediately upon being seated, bring your food, and bring your check to you. They seem to spend a little more time with there service here, so that is a good thing. As for their boba drinks, they aren't quite what they should be, but you can only do so much with the foods you have available for purchase in the area. They put extremely too much taro mix in my boba drink, but it was still tasty. My mom even liked the taste of it, so that was a plus. If you're feeling adventurous, definitely give this place a try. I was very pleasantly surprised and quite happy with my food. You probably can't get any better Vietnamese food in the area, but for now I'm simply going to keep it a 4-star until they get a few kinks worked out and step up their flavors with pure, authentic preparation styles. read more

At first I was very disappointed by their menu, since there were no obviously vegetarian choices, but then I was amazed by their staff. Not only did my server recommend vegetarian options for me, he gave me a to-go menu with foods that could be made vegetarian circled for future reference! The food I had was good, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. Would recommend, but make sure to ask your server to help you pick vegetarian dishes. Although the food here is good they could really lay off the MSG. The pho is great tasting and the Boba tea is really good, but there is one other issue with this place...the service. I love leaving a tip for a good waiter or waitress but I have a very hard time even leaving a dime at this place. You can be waiting for someone to seat you for 10 to 15 minutes and then nobody will even take your drink order for another 10. They really need to get it together if they don't want to lose business because I know for a fact I'm not the only one who stopped going to this place for that reason. Update on my review. The bottles hadn't been wiped, the containers of spicy sauce were just gross and the spoons in them had sauce crusted all the way up the spoon handle. The tray itself was just a mucky mess. I say all this cause I don't fly on planes who's bathrooms don't work. I won't eat in a place who can't be bothered to keep the condiments clean and the ceiling tiles from showing leakage signs. I was afraid to think of what the kitchen looks like although the cutlery was clean. The soup also came out slowly. Which was sad. It's soup. A working persons lunch isn't this spot for me. The man and woman sitting behind me tried to order and 2 things they wanted they were out of. I was going to take a picture. But I was trying to enjoy lunch once it finally arrived. It may just be the fact that I am not a fan of Vietnamese food, but this was NOT for me. I hate reading all of the wonderful reviews that Bambu has gotten and knowing that I didn't like it. If you love Vietnamese food, give it a try-everyone else seems to love it. I started my meal with the spring rolls because these are usually my favorite, these were nothing like other spring rolls I have had, there was enough mint leaf in each roll to make 5 mojitos. While I did love the peanut sauce, the rolls were just not for me. For an entree I got the shredded pork & BBQ on vermicelli, it was also like no vermicelli I have ever had. I am sure I just had a bad experience, maybe next time will be better. I must say the boba tea here was the best I have ever had. My wife and I have been looking for a Vietnamese restaurant since we relocated from Central Texas. We recently went here for lunch and we will definitely be going back. We both ordered lemon grass Bun (vermicelli), mine with chicken and her's with tofu. She loved her dish but I was a little.. not into mine. Not Bambu's fault. I pretty much just got what I would have gotten back home without really thinking about it. It was cooked well and the flavors were very good. Just a little too much of a basil/ cilantro flavor for me. The service was great and the egg rolls were some of the best I've had in a very very long time. We were even offered a botched dessert that another customer didn't want but we were both too full (I'm not super picky. Not "liking" my food won't keep me from eating) so we passed. In fact, our waiter was great when we arrived: he fetched drinks quickly, answered my wife's questions about gluten-free items, and was generally helpful. Unfortunately, he disappeared when we asked for a to-go container. After 15 minutes, we walked to the front where he noticed us and we were able to pay. The food was good. I had the combination fried rice and my wife had a vermicelli dish. I prefer the combination fried rice at Riksha or Chopsticks, but it was alright, and my wife got inspired to make some of this at home. Overall, pretty good. I have been here many times to get my fix for Viet cuisine. I usually order the Pho dac biet or the wonton noodle soup or the Bun bo hue. I have never had a bad bowl of Pho from Bambu you can tell that the broth has been slow cooked for hours. It has that silky mouthfeel you cant replicate from a powdered mix. Just A-OK in my book. I realize Springfield, MO is not a hotbed for Vietnamese cuisine so you need to take what you can get when you're here. I was craving pho and my brother says this is the only place he goes (Not really by choice anyways) and we did a take-out order. I got the rare beef/meatball and a taro boba. YUMMY BOBA! The soup was lukewarm by the time we got home. I quickly put the rare beef in the soup so it could cook and thankfully it did. The broth was a bit on the sweet side, and meatballs kinda small. They only have one size so sadly I couldn't finish the portion. We also ordered egg rolls too and those were very good too, also love the sweet/sour sauce they provide. Awful and argumentative staff with no sense of customer service. I visit this establishment every couple weeks. They have great bobas and it's usually a quick and friendly transaction. Today was not the case. I called in an order. Picking it up, I was told I could just get my drinks from the cooler up front just left out for the public. Checked my order, I noticed right away it wrong so I told the server, "Daniel". He argued with me, asking if I was the one that placed the order and insisted I said something different. I checked the rest of my order and let him know the whole thing was wrong. An older gentleman came out asking me what I ordered and was completely rude! Moments later another couple came in returning an order. Turns out they DID mix our orders up. "Daniel" walked around from the counter, grabbed the food out of the other customers hand and tried to hand it off to me to take.... With no idea where that food had been, if it had been touched, taste tested, etc....I had just been charged almost $50 for food to be treated this way and to be expected to take food handled by strangers already taken from the restaurant! I politely asked for my food to be remade. They came out not 5 minutes later and handed me my food, apparent they just went in the back and did nothing. After I left I realized I was also overcharged (probably for the other order) I called to ask about it and "Daniel" argued with me yet again, finally he went to found the receipt, and nonchalantly told me he would refund me the $5 difference. Absolutely no apology and Still don't see my refund. Terrible customer service. Update: still never received my refund for the overcharge. read more
