this was a really bad experience overall. we tried to place an online order for pickup. our online order did not go through on accident, which was no one's fault, however we ended up waiting about 10 minutes for them to make our order. not a big deal at all and i assumed it should be fresh food because of this mix up. however the food was terrible. i got the regular kung pao chicken meal with fried rice. the kung pao had a VERY VERY small portion of chicken, shown in the picture. that's an absurd amount of chicken for a chicken dish. the rest was all cabbage and onions. this was by no means kung pao chicken. there was no peanuts or any other vegetables at all. all onion and cabbage. the other photo is the fried rice which was cold and tasted soggy. this meal was about $9-10 so i paid all that money for cold cabbage and onions and just threw most of it away. i would not recommend this place at all. read more

this place is consistent with its food and size of it. It's quite enjoyable, especially when you eat later than most people where most places are closed. I go with the bourbon chicken its Out of this World if you get a chance, you gotta try it. made fresh each order so youcan't really beat that. and most people can't tell but his rice has a nice savory it can't tell you what it is, but if you look for it, you'll be able to tell that it's yummy yummy compared to the standard. So I always go the safe route when I never have eaten at a Chinese restaurant and get cashew chicken. The portions were good, price was fair. When I got home I tried the rice and it was FAULTY and smelled and taste vinegary, they definitely noticed when they put it in the box, I kept calling and someone kept picking up and hanging. Look. If a place has to put "Best" all over their restaurant, it probably isn't. I have no idea how they've won a single award, let alone all they claim. We've eaten here several times. I've NEVER been impressed with ANYTHING. It's edible, but nothing to get excited over. There are FAR better oriental restaurants in Springfield. Even on the North side. This was not Asian food! This was deep fried chicken drenched in Asian flavored gravies that were not very good! The fried rice is white with peas, the egg rolls were squishy and I would not recommend ever eating at this place in my life again. Ordered an Egg Roll, Hot and Sour Soup and General Tso Chicken it also came with one Crab Rangoon... First the soup, no meat, very little spice, and very little flavor. I always order the Hot and Sour soup from a Chinese restaurant that I have never been to before. If they get this right, I know I have a pretty good chance the rest of the meal is going to be fine. I would guess it was a manufactured frozen egg roll they throw into the deep fryer when someone orders Crab Rangoon, again just a below average item with very little flavor. General Tso Chicken, it look appetizing threw the clear lid of the container, so my hopes were heightened. Upon further investigation I found that this restaurant adds zucchini, bamboo shoot, water chestnuts, cabbage, and broccoli to their recipe.*(Oh and there was the typical breaded and fried chicken chunks) A for effort, but this is not General Tso Chicken... I ordered the Cashew Chicken combo with steamed rice and a crab rangoon. I ended up receiving the Cashew Chicken with fried rice, an egg roll, a crab rangoon, and an additional order of steamed rice, and a full order of crab rangoons. Much more then what I ordered and the receipt reflected as such. The chicken was average (all white meat), the crab rangoons/egg roll was burnt. And the rice tasted what I can only describe as "soap." I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

On my way home, leaving the city of Springfield MO, I decided to give this place a try and I'm rather delighted that I did! I believe this restaurant opened last year and they already have a lot of award winning recognition to back up their good food. The staff here is SUPER polite and TRULY shows appreciation for you selecting their restaurant as your choice of dining. Restaurants always get extra kudo points from me when I receive something I wasn't expecting and here you can help yourself to a light complimentary salad bar which also has (2) tasty traditional soups (hot n sour and egg drop). I ordered their general tso's combination plate which comes with rice, (1) crab rangoon and (1) egg roll. I also ordered a bowl of their wonton soup. The cost of my meal was affordable and the meal itself was delicious, the wonton soup was actually one of the best wonton soups that I've ever had. As former Springfield residents, we always try to stop in for cashew chicken while passing through. Our normal cashew chicken spot was closed for remodeling. So, we went searching for a different restaurant to get our fix. King Asian Chef was just a short drive away. So, we gave them a shot. We ordered a large cashew chicken with all white meat, general's chicken with all white meat, double orders of egg rolls and crab rangoon. WOW! So good! From this day forward, they will have all of our Chinese food business. On top of that, the egg rolls are absolutely the best we've ever had. Great Job! read more

Places that hype their own food as the best usually don't live up to the hype. This place fits that same mold. What made me try this restaurant was the giant banner stating the "best sweet & sour chicken" and the best "hot & spicy chicken". I stopped in and ordered both for carryout. The guy that took the order was very good with great customer service skills. I sat and waited for my food and unfortunately I watched the kitchen prepare the food. The lady that was filling the orders did not wear any gloves while she played the food using her bare hands. Instead of using tongs, she grabs the egg roll with her hands and plops it on the plate. As she dishes the rice, she scoops it with a spoon, but uses her other hand to keep the rice in place and to "mold" it. Ultimately, the food was okay at best. Both chicken dishes were the same fried chicken pieces with the pre-made sauces drizzled over them. I expected more of a traditional tempura chicken, however this is similar to KFC's Nashville hot or Golden chicken. Overall, I would not return and I will look for a different place for Chinese. read more

I had high hopes for Kong's Asian Chef. I wasn't sure what to order so I order their #1 Cashew Chicken meal. I assumed that it was their most popular item on the menu, so why not!? I was disappointed with what I got. What I got was some flour coated fried chicken topped with what tasted like store bought sauce and some cashews on top. There was some plain white rice and vegetables egg roll on the side. The only positive I can give them is that I could tell the chicken was prepared fresh. The sauce they had on top was not good, it tasted store bought and lacking of any seasoning. I can not recommend King's Asian Chef. They need to replace the chef in King's Asian Chef. read more

Food is great. They have the best bourbon chicken and they're rice is always perfect, never burnt like other places I've been to. The only thing is they seem to have no idea or any consistency to their sizes. We literally order the same thing every time and we never know what size we're going to get. If you happen to drive by this restaurant you will notice they have a very large banner, and on their sign stating "voted #1 in Missouri". The owner probably thinks its a cute little gimmick or advertisement. But in all reality I have driven by the place for years, (and eaten twice) and they just change the year the were "voted" the best, year after year after year. Wanna know where this "voting" took place? On their Facebook page, with a Facebook survey. On their Facebook with their people voting. It's cute. Making it sound like it was in some national publication or something. Except for the fact that they make terrible food and lie. Trust me this is not the best in Springfield or Missouri. Not by a long shot. Food each time I have been has been old and terrible. In fact this place isn't even the best on their own street. It is actually sandwiched between two really good Asian places on Glenstone, Hong Kong Inn on North Glentone (great Springfield Chinese) and Teriyaki House on South Glenstone (more Japanese fare). Anyway if you decide to go take notice of you being the only person in line. Because I never see anyone eating there for some reason. The hot n sour soup was Egg Drop soup with some vinegar and hot sauce in it.. The vegetarian eggrolls were frozen Birds eye vegetables flash fryed with duck sauce from a bottle. My eggplant with fried tofu was gloppy and the tofu was hard. I asked for money back on the soup and the young man told me he could not return my money. This was an incredibly average restaurant with below average visit. Food: A masterclass in mediocrity. Everything was very bland and over salty, the egg rolls had a really weird sour taste to the filling and the crab Rangoon was almost sickly sweet. Service: Service was friendly, but seriously scattershot. I ordered online for pick up and after over half an hour, it still wasn't ready. Our first visit here was less than amazing. HOWEVER, we have returned several times since, and have been pleased with the good food, fast service and reasonable prices. It has been quite an adventure trying to find a place that can appease the cashew chicken monster in my kids, and not be "glutened" in the process. (The going joke at my house is that mom can have the steamed rice and the water... That's it!) So to find a Chinese restaurant with great cashew chicken AND gluten-free offerings is nothing short of amazing. So far I have enjoyed their Mugu and their fried rice with chicken and vegetables, which are both very tasty. They also have egg drop soup that is gluten-free. Appease the kids and eat gluten free....just so cool! 4 stars because, like most Chinese restaurants, the ambiance is virtually non-existent. But food will bring you back! read more
