Was craving some Vietnamese food and had to decide between this place and the one across the street since I've never had Vietnamese food out here. I decided well though! Got some food to go: bbq beef vermicelli and filet mignon pho. It was great! I walked in to place the to-go order and within 10 minutes they had it packed and ready to go so really quick service. I thought I was gonna have to wait a while and I didn't wanna order online so the food wouldn't get cold as I got there but that wasn't an issue. The to-go packaging was really good as well. I thought the pho was gonna be all put together already but the noodles, cilantro, onions, and the filet mignon were placed in a bowl. The meat was raw and wrapped in some plastic. Broth came in a separate container. Bean sprouts, jalapeño, and the basil/mint came in another container. I loved that! Poured the broth over the meat in the bowl (took the plastic off) and it was cooked within minutes (saw a review that complained about the raw meat). It wasn't my meal but I did try the broth and it was really good too. It was a lot of broth too. All of it didn't fit in the bowl. The BBQ beef vermicelli (no shrimp paste) was amazing. The meat slices were thin and no chewy bits. Slightly sweet flavor on the beef (bbq?) That was tasty. Noodles and veggies were on one side of the container and the beef was sectioned off in the other part. Kept everything separated until I got home. I really enjoyed my meal and I'll definitely order from here again. Honestly still amazed at how sturdy and well packaged the order was. Nothing fell over or spilled out. Pho (all the containers) came in a brown paper bag in a plastic bag. Broth was wrapped in it's own bag inside. Then that was placed in the bag with the vermicelli. Vermicelli didn't get warm, the filet mignon and veggies didn't cook in the heat on the way home. This review has gone on waaaay too long but I really enjoyed the food! It is tough to find good Asian food in Simi Valley, which is why I was so shocked when I tried the Pho at Bamboo Cafe. I had been craving Pho for days and the only other pho restaurant I had tried was Pho So 1. Pho So 1 is not bad, but its not amazing either, especially for someone who grew up eating pho at home or at the 626 area. With my standards already set super low, how much worse it get? lol. Well let me tell you.. if you are craving Pho and you are in Simi valley, look no further. Bamboo Cafe is the place you will want to be. I ordered the Pho Filet Mignon. Yes, Filet Mignon. If you love a good filet mignon steak, you will want this in your bowl of Pho. The tenderness of the meat is just melt in your mouth perfection. The soup tastes so pure and homemade, it reminded me of my mom's pho. The noodles were cooked just right, not overboiled and not underboiled. Honestly, I almost cried eating this bowl of Pho because of how good it was. The eggrolls were decent. If you are looking for oily deep fried egg rolls, this won't be it. But I do give them points for making such a tasty egg roll with so little oil. My gf ordered the com thit heo nuong chao tom (rice with grilled pork and shrimp paste). Unfortunately the pork was really salty and hard to eat. The shrimp paste was good though. Pho So 1 always overcooked their shrimp paste which makes it hard to chew. I liked that their nuoc mam sauce was not sweet like at other Vietnamese restaurants. Instead it was citrusy and had chili peppers, just like my parents always made it at home. Overall, I really enjoyed the pho and will definitely come back again. Pho So 1 is a popular restaurant chain so its no surprise that they are more popular, but PLEASE give Bamboo Cafe a try. I've been coming here for a while. There are only two Vietnamese restaurants in Simi, and I frequented both prior to covid. There are some dishes that are better at Bamboo and some that are better at Pho So 1. I come to bamboo because generally I like the flavors here a little bit better. But my complaint is I feel like bamboo is really cheap with their portions. The pho filet is better than Pho So 1 but it's such a small amount of meat. The shaken beef plate is also a little better because they use better quality meat but again the portion is really really cheap. In the picture I attached I had taken two pieces of meat off that plate. If I wanted a beef salad I would have ordered that. I also asked the staff for extra meat (that I would pay for) and they couldn't do it. It was really disappointing tbh. I think I would rather get takeout from pho so 1 than come back here for a while. read more

This place has always been a fav of mine in Simi. I will say that even though they renovated the place to accommodate more people, it was nicer and more comfortable before the renovation. Warm wood floor & wood work complement the modern interior design. 1)' Cha Gio fried egg rolls are short stubs, crispy wrapper, minced pork, glass noodles, carrots, onion, cabbage flavoured w/ Nuoc Mam/fish sauce, black pepper, garlic. Accompanied by green leaf lettuce, spear mint, julienned carrots & cucumber which you can take the Cha Gio and create a lettuce veggie wrap around it. Because Simi Valley is not a heavily Vietnamese populated area, the standard Vietnamese 'basil' & metallic tasting Rauram herb is missing. Dipping sauce is Nuoc Cham/sweetened diluted fish sauce w/ a touch of Sriracha garlic chile sauce. 2) Bo Luc Lac/Shaking Beef is cubed beef marinated with touch of oyster, hoisin, fish, soy sauce, garlic, sugar, sesame oil. Then sautéed & shakened in hot butter-vegetable oil. Salad is green lettuce, onion, cilantro, tomato serving as a vegetal counter to the beef. Rice as a bland starch. Overall flavour was good, but the beef was overcooked so it was dry, chewy, tough. Never overcook beef for that reason. Ice tea was the drink of choice. Good food at a good price. You walk in and get seated immediately with no wait. you get your menus and order your food and get almost as soon as you order, and once you get your food you discover that you were just handed the best food you will ever eat. Great Thai tea. I've been working next to the café for about a year and never have tried their drinks or food. On Sunday I was waiting for a ride and decided to sit inside. Bamboo café offered for me to try the Thai tea which I've never even had and they told me that it was pretty good! The employees are very friendly and really nice. Was craving some Vietnamese food so I tried this little restaurant to see if the ratings are justified. Basic food you'd get at most Vietnamese restaurants. Flavors are decent. Was surprised how salty the fish sauce was! Would have given them 4 stars but the sauce kind of ruined the dishes. Without the sauce, it would have been too bland. Recommendation: Do not add so much salt into the sauce! Half the salt would have been fine. Provide salt packets to patrons if they want it more salty. Remember, you can put salt in but can't take it out! read more

Finally got the chance to revisit this place after so many years and I was a little disappointed. I got their bun Bo hue and it was very bland. You can tell just visually that it doesn't have much flavor. Usually has a more reddish hue. Also their meat was pretty tough. If I'm not mistaken, their meat is supposedly filet mignon, but it wasn't tender at all. Love this little place, I've been going here for years now and the staff always remembers me :) I usually get Thai boba, spring rolls, or the Vietnamese sandwiches, super yummy. Staff is great and the restaurant is pretty well kept and cleaned. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because the last few times I ordered Pho the chicken has been super chewy to the point where I can't eat it.
