This is the best sandwich I've ever eaten. Seriously. I've had great meatball subs, Reubens, turkey clubs, Italians, cheesesteaks, PB&Js, egg salad--you name it. The only sandwich that's even in the same conversation is Ms. Cindy's Italian from Ioannoni's, and even that is a close second. This chicken cheesesteak is a perfect 10/10. Why? * Flavor: Outstanding. Every bite is packed with flavor. * Seasoning: Perfectly seasoned. Nothing bland, nothing overpowering. * Cheese Ratio: Exactly how it should be. Every bite has cheese without drowning the sandwich. * Bread: Fresh and soft while still holding together from start to finish. * Moisture: This is what separates it from most chicken cheesesteaks. The chicken is incredibly moist and juicy without making the roll soggy. Most places treat a chicken cheesesteak like it's just a cheesesteak with chicken substituted in. Balboa doesn't. It feels like they actually designed the sandwich around the chicken instead of just replacing the beef. I even texted the owner after eating it because it was that good. I told him: "Flavor. Seasoning. Cheese ratio. Bread. Moist and juicy. God damn." That pretty much sums it up. If you've only ever ordered the regular cheesesteak from Balboa, do yourself a favor and try the chicken cheesesteak at least once. The menu lacks details, so ask a lot of questions. It would be helpful to see list of options to add or change. For example, the chicken cheesesteak does not come with anything but cheese on it. Glad i asked, because i can't imagine having one without onions & peppers. Also..i wanted a different cheese. Again, glad i asked. FYI..something else you may want to know if you add peppers..some are jalapeno. That's odd for a standard, but definitely should tell people. I like spicy, but if you don't..you would be really upset. Overall, loved it. Definitely would order again. But please take the advice to improve your menu and options so people can see. Let's cut to the chase, Newark, you finally have a very good cheesesteak. It comes on a nice seeded roll. It has a very good amount of nicely chopped meat. A great amount of cheese that is melted onto everything. I was okay with the fried onions. Amigo Dan wanted more flavor from them. Elk River Brewing on Bourbon Tuesday is a great place to eat your cheesesteak. Full disclosure, my first bite was into a piece of well-formed gristle. Perfect perfect perfect roll - tasted, looked, and felt like a Sarcone roll, but did not confirm that it was. The most tender shaved ribeye, the perfect amount of copper sharp evenly throughout. Stopped here yesterday for lunch after dropping our son back at UD. We thought the cheesesteaks were great overstuffed and delicious. Until our son called us a bit later that evening saying he threw up. It has now been multiple times and and can't hold anything down. A little later it hit me. Same symptoms and I can't hold anything down. This is the only thing that we both ate. Unfortunately we will not be back. I would give zero stars if possible. read more

Recently, my family got Balboa steak sandwiches for dinner and we were not disappointed. My husband got the beef cheesesteak and I got a chicken cheesesteak with sweet peppers and pickles; it was delicious! Growing up in Delaware County Pennsylvania we were used to Philly style cheesesteaks, which we thought were the best, and still are very good. However, my husband decided to try Balboa steaks for the first time and I must say these were the best steaks sandwiches, especially a chicken cheesesteak, that I have ever had. I was surprised that they come on a very nice sesame seed long roll and the flavor was wonderful, bursting with wonderful flavor and the perfect amount of yummy cheese you can see. We were in town for a few days and decided to check out balboa steaks. When we got there it felt more like a carry out place but we had our two kids in tow and they had tables available so we decided to stay and eat there. We got 3 cheesesteaks (balboas), 2 regular fries and 4 cups totaling $75. One of our sons wanted sweet tea - water came out. He got sprite instead. Our other son wanted lemonade - water came out of there too. Decided to try the fruit punch - water came out of there too. So we decided just to do water and that only dispensed carbonated water so we had to ask for a bottle. Super weird. Then the door was open (cold wind blowing in) so my husband went to shut the door and the man said it has to stay open bc the heat was "acting up." Again, super weird. Small, round tables also DO NOT work for the large square papers that the cheesesteaks come wrapped in. Made it a super awkward and difficult surface to eat on. I was worried someone would lose their food to the floor! Maybe if 2 people weren't sharing a table it would have been better?
