I am not exaggerating when I say that the Zion cake here is the best chocolate cake I have ever had in my entire life. The cake itself is super rich and moist and the chocolate cream on top is so decadent and high quality - but at the same time it's not too sweet. I definitely will be getting future birthday cakes here. The silvanas are really delicious too! We ordered an assorted box which comes with cookies and cream, pistachio, and cashew. The cookies are nice and buttery with wafery like texture. Everything here is so delicious and highly recommend!!! read more

Bakes and Pastes is in a small shopping center with parking in the front and back of the building. It's cute little shop. There's no place to sit and eat. The AC was on blast and it felt really good because it was a hot day. I ordered assorted Silvanas, Dubai chocolate bar and Zion cake. They were all delicious and not too sweet for me. It was my first time having Dubai chocolate and it was different, but good and crunchy. The only thing is that it is pricey, but these are premium products. Even the packaging looks really cool. You could tell a lot of thought was put into everything. read more

Cute little bakery. I came across this business as a pop up at ube fest where I tried their dubai chocolate for the first time and fell in love! Fast forward to a few months later, I wanted to pick up a cake for my friend's birthday and I realized this spot was relatively local and I gave them a call to see what they still had in stock. It was towards the end of the day so options were limited but they had the flavor I wanted to get. They put the cake on hold for me while I went to pick up my order. I ordered an 8x8 coffee cake for a small gathering with my friends and it was honestly a hit. Everyone was complimenting how good the cake tasted. There was a top layer of cream, which had the coffee flavor and the bottom of the cake was regular chocolate cake. (Forgot to take a picture) but it was perfectly moist and it wasn't too sweet. The combination of coffee cream and chocolate cake went perfectly together. The packaging is also really luxe and I love how they put scripture on it. read more

Decided to yelp search "Dubai chocolate" out of curiosity, and this place popped up! My friend has been talking about needing to try this viral (and wayyy overpriced) chocolate bar at least once. She bought some in her area for her kids to try and they begged for her to buy some more. Since her kiddos are quite picky, it made me more curious. I was under the assumption that this chocolate was hard to find, so was surprised to find a local bakery to have it. I also thought this chocolate bar was one particular brand coming straight from Dubai (hence the $$$), when in reality, each shop is making their own using the ingredients in the chocolate bar. As mentioned, a single chocolate bar is quite pricey at $18 (with tax $18.54). But, I was pleasantly surprised at the nice box and overall packaging of the chocolate...and it felt heavy! I didn't know what to expect, but I've seen people on social media taking the whole bar and breaking it down the middle...so I attempted to do that, only to find how delicate the bar was. My thumb went straight through and left an ugly crack in the middle of this pretty chocolate bar. Lol. Despite the failed attempt to make it look as good as the people on social media did, the chocolate bar was quite good. So good to the point my crazy mind considered going back the next day to buy another. Something I didn't notice until I went in for the last piece today is that they have a Bible verse at the bottom of the chocolate box which was a nice surprise. Psalm 133:1. Thank you for my first Dubai chocolate experience as well as the surprise bible verse:) I will have to come back to try their specialty cakes next time. read more

GET YOUR SILVANAS HERE! What is a silvana (aka sylvana or sylvanna) you ask? It's a Filipino frozen cookie made of buttercream sandwiched between two meringue wafers coated with cookie and/or nut crumbs. The ratio of the wafers to the buttercream is downright sinful. Make sure you eat frozen or as close to frozen as possible! I was gifted a box of 12 that contains cashew (cream colored), pistachio (light green colored) and cookies and cream (dark chocolate colored), and all three are amazing, you can't go wrong with any of them! read more

Let's get the entry point requirement for desserts out of the way: the cakes are "not very sweet!" That alone deserves attention for those whose palate, like mine, dislike the cloyingly sweet stuff. But here is the real reason why I am giving it a rave review--their chocolate cakes, especially the Zion which is a dark and white chocolate masterpiece, are one of the best out there. This is premium stuff, hinted only by their small, unpretentious, but stylish storefront. They have limited hours and days but this place is a national treasure for a niche selection of pastries that are Manila Favorites. The chocolate cake reminds me of the one from Cookie Monster (yep, that's the name of the shop near Makati Medical Center) , but we have a more moist, fluffier, and less sweet version! read more

My work location moved and I saw this little place near the new location. Saw some reviews about it and thought I'd try it out. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They're very knowledgeable and patient regarding the questions I had about the different types of cakes and dessert items they offered. The menu is varied, with several items I've never heard of before, but was willing to try. I first tried the Zed cake which is offered as a Solo cake as an option (basically like a slice, a perfect amount. The Zed cake is a rich chocolate cake with coffee icing. It was both light and moist, rich, not too sweet but still sweet enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. I finished that off too quickly. Then I got an Ube cake for my husband. It was obviously delicious because he ate it all without sharing! I went back and got a Solo cake of their other top chocolate cakes to sample. There was one that was chocolate and one with dark and white chocolate. Both were pretty delicious, still light but moist, very yummy, but my favorite was still the Zed cake so far. They have a Dream cake, which looks like a chocolate lover's dream, but they didn't have that Solo size available, so I ordered it, along with three larger sizes of the other chocolate cakes I already sampled. One of them will be a birthday gift for my niece, another cake connoisseur, and the others are for home. I can't wait to try the Dream cake! The days and hours they are open are limited, so make sure to check before you go. Also, check the menu as some items and sizes are available by pre-order only. Worth it! History

Established in 2020.

Born Out of Cravings We are a husband and wife duo. We started our business during the pandemic, it was an unplanned business, but we prayed for it. I, myself, Zarah is a certified sweet tooth. During the lockdown, I was craving for desserts, but I couldn't go anywhere, so we tried to experiment on our own. All our products were just pandemic cravings. It started with Silvanas, Yema Cake, Dream Cake, Sans Rival. We did not intend to sell for business as it was just a simple craving and experiment! Until my sister posted it on her Instagram story and people got curious and have been trying to order. We were hesitant to accept orders at that time but eventually we gave in. And since then, we have not stopped in making new recipes and as the saying goes, the rest is history. TONS of credits go to Mark for his sleepless nights to fulfill all orders. We give all Glory to Jesus! “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Cor 5:7

The ice cream flavors were subtle but so delicious and refreshing. I can't wait to come back and try more of their flavors. Parking can be a bit tough depending on the time of day as it's in a busy plaza shared with other eateries, but thankfully we were able to snag a spot within a few minutes.

There's also no chairs or tables inside, but they do have some shared outside seating with the other nearby restaurants.

My friend is a frequent customer at this location and we both like to come for drinks and studying. This time however, they came alone with their laptop and were working for 20 minutes max before an employee (seems to be a shift lead or manager) came up to them asking if anything had been ordered. My friend replied "no not yet," and the worker proceeded to say the tables were for customers only and walk away before they could say anything else. They were approached a SECOND time by another staff member only 10 minutes after the first, who asked the SAME thing. This time my friend was able to respond that they were actually waiting for me to arrive. The first worker then STARED at them for the next 30 minutes, making them insanely uncomfortable until I arrived. My friend was one of the only brown skin people in the cafe...horrifically rude. What a horrible way to treat a person, let alone a regular customer. And what a waste of time, staring at a customer instead of doing your job...We both had interacted with this employee and ordered with them several times in the past, so it's crazy they couldn't remember any of it. Never returning, all of our classmates and family have been warned and now you have too.
