I'm always down to check out new trendy spots esp. when it revolves around food. I stumbled into this adorable little shop that's basically a flavor lover's dream. Shelves are packed with a great selection of spices, rich oils, specialty butters, and the kind of desserts that make you stop and do a double take. I originally came for the insanely good crunchy sesame butter by Rooted Fare (it was one of their locations), but after having some conversations with the girl in front, then I found out they host pizza and ramen pop-ups too! Must have sides: the potato situation!!!! Omg it's insane! I should have ordered more. Walked by the complex after lunch and the pottery on display caught my eye. Noticed the little banner above the door and it said Bakers and Baristas Superette. Immediately a young woman greeted me as I walked in and shared with me that this shop is not the same owners as the Bakers and Baristas down the way. In fact, this group are the original owners. This explains why the menu next door was vastly different from what it was when it first opened. The Superette had offerings of locally made pantry supplies and also Japanese tea items. A lot of great gift ideas. This day they were having a pizza popup. I was in a rush but waited till I got my turn at the register to ask how long a pizza would take to decide if I was going to order. They said it would take about 10 minutes, so I went ahead and ordered a Spicy Carbonara. The shop was busy with people ordering pizza or buying ice cream. They have limited flavour offerings on the scoops, but had pints available in the fridge. My pizza came, it's about the personal size, with 6 slices. While there were umbrella tables outside for seating, I took the pizza home. I was a little disappointed that my pizza was burnt so I took a star from that. It's a pity because it was flavourful. I saved a couple of slices to take to work and it was still good. The lady that spoke with me at the shop did explain all the ingredients are freshly sourced or in-house made and she mentioned the dough was made in-house. You can tell it was as it was delicious. Love the vibe of the place and looking forward to more offerings. I appreciate that they have a shop for gifts making it one-stop. Will be back for Christmas shopping! I was looking for cakes for my partner's bday and stumbled upon this place on Yelp. I really liked how they offer unique flavors, so I picked the mango sticky rice cake since it's one of his favorite desserts and our daughter loves mangoes. Just a day before, I called to see if I can just have one on hold and it was such an easy process. When I got there, I knew I wanted to also check out their unique snacks and ended up picking some small desserts as well. We really enjoyed their blueberry parfait and their ovaltine cake. The mango sticky rice cake was so good, too, although the cake itself was kind of dry. However, the flavor of the cake kind of negates the dryness of the cake, and the flavors were subtle... the mangoes and sticky rice were not overpowering one another; it just blended well. I'm not a fan of sticky rice because of the texture but I couldn't really tell it was in the cake and there was a slight hint of coconut from the rice, so that was nice. The person behind the register was also very friendly and offered samples of the items I was looking at and gave suggestions. Overall, I'd definitely come back for more desserts and snacks. Went to go search for a unique cake for my best friend's birthday and stumbled upon this place. Her favorite dessert is Mango sticky rice and I thought this would be a unique dessert experience to try. The overall store is tuck away in a busy plaza and I would solely come back just for the goods they sell from around the world. It's very well curated and they only carry high quality items. Overall -- an interesting take on this delicious Thai dessert. It has the "sticky rice" layered into it with sweet mangos and cream which is the perfect amount of sweet in my opinion. We stopped by after eating at Sam Woo. This is a a cute little shop with premium items from around the world! I found some top notch matcha and matcha chawans and whisks. There are also cocktail mixing sets, pastas, plates, cutlery, packaged Italian meats, ice cream, and so much more. I have to say this was a gem of find and they have such neat things! Plus the staff were super friendly! My favorite part were the cakes! I got the mango sticky rice cake, which sounded bizarre to me, but was delicious! I'm surprised how well the coconut sticky rice compliments the mango and cake layers. The way the cake is layered is(from bottom to top): cake, coconut sticky rice, cake, mango, cake. The mangoes were slightly sour. My partner didn't like the sour mangoes, but I didn't mind. Our only suggestion is if they can find sweeter mangoes. Overall, awesome shop! Do stop by! read more

Thank you, BB Superette, for bringing the 626 Hospitality Group to the area and introducing me to Deux Cranes! I first went to BB Superette a month or two ago. I was like Charlie in the chocolate factory, marveling at all the cool products and curious to try many of them. The staff was super friendly and helped me decide between a few different items. I got a milk tea tochi popcorn, Deux Cranes' dark miso with almonds chocolate bar, and Dick Taylor's black fig chocolate bar. The Deux Cranes bar was so good and my favorite from my purchase. While checking out these items at the register, the staff told me 626 Hospitality Group came here on Sundays, 12-6 pm, to serve ice cream scoops. I made a mental note to come on a Sunday at some point. Since then, I had been back two more times to get more Deux Cranes chocolate bars. The seasonal hojicha milk chocolate with kokuto pecans and cranberries was incredible. The matcha chocolate and caramelized sesame bar and the passionfruit chocolate were also lovely. I also tried a slice of apple jasmine cake. The sponge cake was light and airy, there were enough apple bits, and the jasmine tea flavor made the cake so refreshing. I finally got to try the ice cream today, and wow, those were some of the best ice cream I had had in my life. The staff (I assume from 626 Hospitality Group) was so patient and friendly and let me sample every flavor. I enjoyed most of the 9 flavors I tried, but the sake kasu and burnt honey and barley really stood out as I had never had these flavors in ice cream before. I got scoops of these two flavors and savored them right away outside. It was a euphoric experience. Looking forward to come back soon for more Deux Cranes chocolate bars and 626's sake kasu ice cream. Superette is owned by Bakers and Baristas and is steps away from that location. Aside from location, I'm not exactly clear on the demarcation between the two businesses. Both Bakers and Baristas and Superette have pastries/sweets. While there are more croissant options and assertively sweet desserts at Bakers, Superette has desserts that are more "asian sweet". This feels like an older sibling of Bakers and Baristas as it has clear similarities, but it looks like they want to try different/unique/creative flavors here. I had the banana toffee cookie and the apple jasmine cake and both were nice. The apple jasmine cake has a very subtle contribution from the tea, but you do get tastes of apple between the light, chiffon cake layers. We would have liked to have been slapped across the face with apple-jasmine flavor, but that's probably not what they were going for. Inside the store, you also have nicely and thoughtfully curated books, candles, and pantry staples that are of high quality. It makes me feel that the ingredients in their baked goods are also quality. In the corner of their store, they also offer ice cream from 626 ice cream, where you can get asian-style flavors like strawberry lychee, black sesame, and ube coconut. I'm still trying to understand how this brand stands on its own, apart from Bakers and Baristas. More importantly, I'm looking for items that I uniquely crave from here. The banana toffee cookie is the closest thing at this point as the caramel notes from the cookie were great! If I see the mango sticky rice cake, then I'm definitely going to be trying that. Looking for the quintessential Asian-level of not-too-sweet desserts that'll satisfy your sweet tooth? Look no further than Bakers & Barista's Superette! Located in the same block, a few steps away, the Suprette is easy to miss because all the signage that's presently available is just a temporary banner on top of the building, and if you didn't know that this was our beloved coffee & brunch/breakfast spot's bakery option, you'd miss it entirely. But, fear not, Yelpers and Yelp has you covered because now you know! The store-front is small-ish when you walk in, greeted by shelves full of pantry essentials, a table in the centre with purchasable items, and the counter (with a dessert display) towards back, with the bakery kitchen all the way behind it (and rather massive at that). Here's what I've gotten: - Strawberry genmaicha: My absolute favourite and so glad it's a staple; I've bought just a slice of it as well as an entire cake a few times because it's that good. And, of course, not-too-sweet. - Ube tiramisu: I enjoy ube, but in cheesecake form, it wasn't all there for me; slightly too sweet as well, but it is a cheesecake, so that part makes sense. - Mango sticky rice: Really ingenious and I love the sticky rice that's actualy a layer in the cake, but the mango flavour, nor the condensed milk were really jumping out at me - Pumpkin: A seasonal flavour, it was interesting to try; I did enjoy the not-overpowering taste of allspice and the addition of a pumpkin seed was nice. It was definitely not sweet at all, which I appreciated, but pumpkin (nor pumpkin spice) isn't my thing, so I wouldn't get this again. - Cookies: They have rotating flavours with some staples; I've tried it all from their milk'n'cereal to banana-something; it's good! Thin, crispy, and large! When I'd originally come, during their initial few weeks, their cake slices were triangular in shape; now, in the past month, they've switched to square slices. The service is stellar; non-intrusive/-hovering; they're always kind, attentive, and patient. There's no inside seating, but that's not what this Superette is intended for; there is, however, plenty of outside shared patio seating, so grab it while you can! While there may feel like there's ample parking, this entire lot gets rapidly busy so be aware that you could end up circlign for a few minutes before you find somethign; the spots are pretty small too, so just keep that in mind. Pro-tip: Bring someone who can hop out while you drive around to pick up cakes or macarons from the Superette! read more

I took a quick glance around and noticed the fresh produce and wanted to see what other types of grocery items that they had. Parking is kind of tight as it is located in a strip mall. It's a softer side to what we are familiar with and it taps into the creative side of wanting to entertain friends and family at home or at their home. Just like BB, Superette has shareable cakes by the slice like their seasonal Thai Tea Horchata or Mango Sticky Rice Cakes and their cookies are addictively deadly for your waistline. Wow, just let me start off by saying that I really wanted like this place because I do like their parent company Bakers and baristas alot .. Stop by here the other night while visiting the Italian place next-door to pick up a couple slices to go for after dinner . Cool little store, friendly worker, limited selection of cake slices to go and cookies also . Now here is the big issue I had with this place, picked up a strawberry slice, and I also picked up the Ube tiramisu with the fruity pebble cookie for my son. The slices looked really good The taste was off big time .. My wife took a bite of the ube and almost instantly she said said it tasted like vomit. I've never heard of such a thing so I was like what are you talking about and I took a bite for myself, I couldn't believe the aftertaste it had.NO BULLSHIT !! it tasted like throw up. I don't know if it was the combo they were using with the tiramisu/ube 100% did not work. Was gonna take a picture before I ate it but decided to take a bite first so I never got around to it. I'm not trying to shit on small business. Trust me,I try to support them as best as I can, but that Ube cake was the worst cake I've ever tasted in my life. The fruity pebbles cookie was delicious and the strawberry cake was basic/plain with not much flavor at all. That's the reason for the low star rating. Tried the mango sticky rice, ube tiramisu, and strawberry genmaicha. They were all wonderful, but love the mango sticky rice the most. The three flavors rated from heavy to light: ube tiramisu, strawberry genmaicha, mango sticky rice. The mango sticky rice cake was very different and unique. Really a wonderful choice. The store is small and cute, reminds me of Phoenix where they have a restaurant and then there's a little shop next door to sells desserts. Definitely would come back to get the mango sticky rice again! So we came back again multiple times and now, the sizes of the cake slices are different. They are no longer the triangle shaped but squared, so it seems like you're paying more for less. The quality of the cake is still good, but like for the mango sticky rice, if you get the end piece, you won't have much sticky rice on the bottom layer. I have been a long time fan of Bakers and Baristas and was excited when I learned about their sister store BB Superette and made it a point to check it out on my way home from work. The shop is quaint with all the essential cooking supplies and even some matcha supplies. The prices can get pretty up there, but it is on par with other Superette's that I have seen before (like the one in Little Tokyo). I once stopped by on a Sunday to give 626 Hospitality Group's Ice creams a try before committing to a full pint and was happy to see that the representative was offering samples that day. She let me try nearly every flavor on deck and gave a decent size scoop. I will now be on the lookout for a pint of their coffee and cream ice cream when I am feeling int he mood to treat myself. My only wish is that they would also sell the matcha Oreo cake here that they sell at Bakers and Baristas. If that were the case I would probably stop by more often. Will definitely be back if I ever catch wind of their different events that they have such as creators markets. read more

As I get older and have more disposable income, I've really come to enjoy shopping at artisan markets and supporting small, local businesses. BB Superette is such a charming concept, offering a curated selection of brands that many may not be familiar with, and I love that the majority of them are AAPI-owned! I've stopped by a few times since they opened, usually after enjoying breakfast at their parent restaurant next door, Bakers and Baristas. It's great to see that they've expanded their product offerings, and I hope they continue to do so, allowing customers to discover more unique items. In addition to their retail space, BB Superette also runs their bakery operations from this location, offering pre-made cakes that you can walk in and purchase. I've ordered two cakes on separate occasions: the Mango Sticky Rice and the Milk and Cereal. The Mango Sticky Rice cake was a standout! It was delicious--moist, perfectly sweet, and the mango flavor paired beautifully with the nuttiness of the rice. On the other hand, I was a bit let down by the Milk and Cereal cake, despite it being their best-seller. The cereal flavor was too subtle for my taste, and I didn't realize it was meant to be a "tres leches"-style cake. This means they provide a container of thinned-out condensed milk to pour over the cake. When we tried the cake without soaking it in the milk, it was dry and flavorless. Once we added the milk, it improved, but I wish this had been more clearly explained in the cake description. I deducted one star for their online cake ordering process. Both times I submitted an order, I didn't receive an email confirmation. I had to reach out via Instagram to confirm my request, and only after receiving confirmation did I get a Square payment link to finalize the order. I think it would be really helpful for the website to provide more clarity on the ordering process and what to expect, as well as to improve communication about order status. Cute little shop that has cooking related knick knacks, books, sauces, & most importantly dessert! They have a selection of BAGGU bags which is pretty cool. I didn't get to try their in house cake slices yet as I came for their 626 ice cream (on Sundays). Unfortunately I went a little too late and they already sold out for the day so I picked up a pint of lychee strawberry ice cream (available everyday I believe) from their freezer section. It was pretty good, very lychee inspired and not too sweet - but a pretty steep price of $13 a pint (understandable though). Im looking forward to going back and trying their in house desserts & more flavors from 626 ice creams! Also excited to see what other curated items this shop has in store in the future. read more

I went to the grand opening of Bakers and Baristas Superette, which is a sister store to the Bakers and Baristas cafe a few doors down. While a bit expensive, I loved this store because I was able to find some unique, locally sourced goods from small businesses I've never heard of before. There are great items here for gifts and specialty foods. They also have a small 626 Hospitality Group ice cream selection and pints, and I LOVE their ice cream. It was a really great opening event. While there, my friend and I tried a couple of the cakes that Bakers and Baristas serves: strawberry genmaicha and mango sticky rice. Both were good, but between the two the mango sticky rice was our favorite. It actually had a layer of sticky rice, which was unique and interesting, and the mango tasted so fresh.
