I'd been super excited to try this spot for a while, and when an appointment brought me just down the street, the time was right! First off, it's beautifully designed and a quaint little workspace, albeit crowded. I think there were only a couple empty chairs at 4pm on a weekday. With that many people, it was a little warm and crowded, but I had planned to get my food and coffee to go, anyway. I got my usual coffee, a cortado, and it didn't disappoint. An above-average tasting espresso, well done. The -1 star came from my food order, which was downright confusing. I'd been recommended to try their daily rotating focaccia. The labels in their pastry counter weren't clear, and between that and the menu, I didn't see anything labeled "focaccia," so I asked, saying I'd been recommended to try it, can I order that separately, just by itself? The person behind the counter said, "Yes, when it's available." And I said, "Ah, ok then" (assuming that meant there was none. "I'll just have the mushroom toast then," I said. She then asked if I wanted it on focaccia. Then I was confused and said "...if that's possible, yes?" She then rang me up, and grabbed a piece of said bread from the pastry counter... so... I don't know what the confusion was there... Then, the person who was making the sandwich asked if I'd wanted it "split, open face, or ..." and then, I realized this wasn't at all a common thing to order... So, I ended up with a toast on a different bread, cut in half... when all I really wanted was to try their famous focaccia. The toast was good -- nice balance of flavors and plenty of shrooms, but I feel like I didn't get a good idea of the really texture of their bread with it cut in half. I had such an enjoyable experience at my first time visiting Bake Shop! I came in to study for a couple hours, and was excited by the variety of fresh and incredible looking baked goodies. The seasonal soup was tomato which paired perfectly with the focaccia. The bread was warm and packed with grilled onions, cheese, and herbs. Such a tasty lunch!! The matcha latte was also delicious and not too sweet at all (which is how I prefer it). I also loved the adorable mugs they put hot drinks in when you ate the meal there. I also tried the buckwheat tahini chocolate chip cookie (not pictured because I consumed it so quickly). DEFINITELY TRY IT!! It's so soft and flavorful, especially for a GF/vegan cookie. The food is good. The jam in the charcuterie is amazing and very unique tasting. It's sort of a honey mixed with cumin seeds and pumpkin seeds. The service is good and the workers are attentive. I think I've found a new favorite cafe! Not only is the cafe's decor very cute (see flask plant holder on table), there are so many amazing baked goods. My favorite was the "Yukon Gold Ham& Cheese Roll." It's so soft and savory. I want to try it's sibling, the "Yukon Gold Cinnamon Roll" next visit. I'm writing this review over breakfast, as I shove a third piece of bread into my mouth. Bake Shop has THE BEST BREAD I've ever had in Seattle. There's not even a close second. Go get some immediately! I will elaborate, I'm specifically into dark, German-type breads. The kind that's so heavy it adds some weight to your bag. It's hard to find, and most of the ones I've found in Seattle were horrendous, often dry, often overly dense. I went to Bake Shop for the first time yesterday and liked the look of their whole wheat sourdough. The place is cute with good service, and I had a very decent coffee. But this review is about bread. I didn't have high expectations, because they didn't really mention the bread on their website. They only had two types of bread in the store, though it was near closing time. There was a white sourdough and the dark whole wheat sourdough. They both looked good, but being a lover of those dark breads, I went for the whole wheat. It did indeed add weight to my bag; I think it was heavier than my computer. This morning I sliced it open. So heavy, so moist, so dense but not too dense. It had integrity but was soft like a pillow. It was easy to slice! One caveat: A lot of people are not into this dark style of bread, but if you are, you'll be in heaven. read more

Bake Shop is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood! My fiancé and I have already visited on several occasions. He is obsessed with the carrot cake and I really like the sourdough offerings. The focaccia is phenomenal and was really filling when I got it to go on my first visit there. They also have a good variety of to-go natural wines and beers plus other local gifts and items. Plus, not only do they create amazing baked goods and great coffee; they also have a sustainable focus (25 cents off each item you purchase if you bring a reusable container or cup) AND they offer a flexible day-to-night approach that lets you work there and then wrap up the day with a glass of wine and maybe a small bite before you head home. I was not expecting to like bake shop as much as I did! My partner and I got there around 10am on Sunday, and there was a small line but not huge. There isn't a ton of seating inside, but we were able to snag a table when someone left. We ordered the mushroom toast, cinnamon roll, and the focaccia. They were all so great! They heated up the cinnamon roll and focaccia for us. The cinnamon roll is (I think) made with potato flour, and they have a lemon icing they put on top, which adds such a nice flavor although it did get a bit sweet. The sourdough focaccia was incredible. I love that it's a little round individual size, and the flavor they had was caramelized shallots, parsley, cheese, and hot honey. It was SO good that we had to buy another and bring it to our friend's house that night so they could try it too. The mushroom toast was also really good! The baristas and staff are so friendly and hospitable. There are plenty of pastries, breads, and the usual array of drinks to choose from. I love picking something new to try from the pastry case every time. They have a cute little market pantry where you can buy wine and other goods. The interior consists of pastel colors and light wooded furniture. Nice big windows that help open up the space and make a typical gloomy day in Seattle not feel as dull. There are a few tables inside and outside, as well as a large bench table and some bar style seats along the wall. Pay by phone / card parking is fairly easy to find on the street. This is a wonderful new space in the Uptown wedge just west of Seattle Center and the arena. Coming up, the exterior is very subtle yet pleasant with deep wooded vertical slats and big spacious windows that mechanically swing out as awnings for that interior swirly air action (circulation). And a few cute tables to sit in the elements. Stepping food inside, to your left is merchandise, seating and the restroom. To your right is window seating, ordering, coffee & ze kitchen. I really dig the aesthetic the owner went for; it's kind of hard to describe but I sense really cool mid-century beachside cafe vibes; the bathroom leaning a bit more to the early-century if art deco had peach tones. Even the door was replaced after opening which resembles the old vintage detective's office door with the top frosted glass which is (oddly enough) "back-lit" from the light, haha. I really dig the seating variety with the window bar, window bench, table stools & bar chairs; quite comfortable for what they are, too. I appreciate the little design cues around. too; one is the corner reading light and the funky abstract shapes along the bar. The food is pretty rad! They make just about everything in house, most notably the bread variety! My favorite bread is the spelt focaccia because no one does whole grain focaccia, let alone spelt. If more traditional focaccia makes you swoon, you need to appreciate the density & nutrition with spelt; as a loaf or in menu items! My favorite items are the yukon gold potato cinnamon roll and the salad; with miso buckwheat cookie and toasts 2nd. The cinnamon roll makes me wet because no one uses potato and lends a super delightful moist, plump & satiating texture to it; plus the glaze/frosting isn't too strong. Armed with a personal mug, a house cardamom oat decaf latte is my usual drink choice with cinnamon mixed in. They love being a green biz so use [clean] personal mugs & containers, when you can! I went here with my mum for a coffee and snack as we were in the neighbourhood. It's super cute and they make great coffee! My mum had a pastry which she said was delicious. I didn't have anything to eat but they did have a gluten and dairy free slice of cake which was exciting, so I'll have to go again for a piece. I was so excited to finally have time to stop by this new addition to the neighborhood! Upon walking in, I immediately noticed how bright, airy, and inviting it is. I'd planned to order to go but really wish I'd brought my laptop to work from this cafe instead. The front of house employee was an absolute rockstar-- balancing taking & making walk-in orders and online orders for pick-up, while remaining super friendly. Came in around noon expecting a rush but I was in and out within 10 minutes. What I got: 1 cinnamon roll ($6.50)- THIS WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW! It's February but this thing is beautifully spiced and tastes like Christmas. The icing is optional but it's seriously a must and it's lemony. The perfect topper. 2 matcha lattes (8 oz., $4.50 each)- this is REAL matcha, unsweetened. If you're used to a sweetened matcha powder, add syrup or a sweetener. Came with cute latte art which is always a nice touch. 1 ham & cheese roll ($7.50)- at first I thought this was a little pricey but the roll is a pretty solid size and it's filling 1 honey almond apple cake ($5)- this was an impulse buy because it looked so good at the counter. The ingredients taste real and fresh, and it's not too sweet. Yummy. There are tons of other food options and wine and so many other things to try. Was so excited to see Bake Shop join the neighborhood and came on a snow day (they update their hours on their instagram!)! The interior and decor is amazing, you can tell they put a lot of thought into their brand and aesthetic. We tried their cookies, which were all unique flavors ($3 each) including a chocolate gingerbread, salted espresso, and miso chocolate chip, which were all great crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside cookies. We also tried the carrot cake ($7) which was delicious! Very unique take on carrot cake because it has fennel in it. Their lattes were also delicious ($4.5-5).
