The mean ass rude woman who waited on us at Bake n Cakes assured me that the butter cream frosting on the cake we bought was made with real butter. I'm allergic to the ingredients in vegetable shortening and margarine. Sure enough Not only did it feel like I took a bite of axle grease but also had a reaction. The way these people conduct business is nonsense. They might want to keep in mind when they lie about ingredients a law suit can happen. Especially since its easy to get the frosting analyzed for its ingredients. . read more

I have purchased cakes for special occasions from them for over 10 years. The last several I have purchased have been really poor quality. Very dry as if they have been prebaked and frozen although I ordered specialty. When I finally purchased a Birthday cake yesterday and my 5 year old said the frosting tasted like "hand sanitizer" I decided to give them a call. After a 5 minute talk with a very rude manager, I decided this would be my last visit. They are cutting corners, extremely defensive and not customer friendly. There are better bakeries in the area. read more

They were Fantastic!....We got Birthday Cakes for the boys and they even hooked us up with a Free Smash cake for my son who is turning 1. Thanks a ton and look forward to more! read more

Bought my wife's birthday cake here which was supposed to be a canoli frosted and filled cake. My wife and I took one bite an yaked. It hat a citrus hue to it and was not like the canoli I tasted in one before purchasing. Instead of giving me a refund they offered me a store credit. If I ate shit why would I want a credit for more shit? And...the day I picked up (I ordered three days ahead of time) they threw it together in 10 minutes. Seriously? Very bad business practice "ladies" read more

I spoke with a flat affect employee on the phone when I ordered a cake for a birthday. Her tone made me feel as though I was inconveniencing her by asking questions. I called 3 days in advance. I browsed the photos on their website and asked for a cake they listed as one of their design options, but was told the flowers on that cake were unavailable. I ordered a carrot cake with a different type of flower and gave very specific instructions as to the size, color, number of servings and time I would pick up the cake. When I picked up the cake I was very disappointed. While it was a pretty cake, it was not what I wanted or had ordered. I ordered a "multi-tiered cake, referencing a specifying image number on their site, and instead received a double layer cake. I explained the problem, the employee disappeared and returned 10 minutes later, and told me the woman who took the order misunderstood me. She said she could make the cake I wanted, but it would take an additional 4 hours. I explained that I was already behind schedule and as a result of their error I would have to purchase an additional small cake to serve all the guests. Not only did they not offer any discount on the additional 'ready to take' cake or way to make up for their mistake, but she put her finger through the frosting, costing me an additional 10 minutes for them to fix it. The cake itself was moist and spongy but they used WAY too much icing... even by the children's standards. Since most cake flowers are edible, it would have been nice to have been told these were not. Luckily I double checked before allowing the cake to be cut. It was a bit embarrassing to have to remove dozens of flowers before allowing the guest of honor to cut the cake. The result was a $75 mistake I won't repeat. read more

Let me start by saying that I LOVE cake. I love all kinds of cake. However, that being said, this place is way too full of itself. I cannot believe with their sub par service, mediocre, dry cupcakes, and HUGELY OVERPRICED costs that this place is still in business. Who the f*** would pay $60 for 24 cupcakes? You would think that they would offer some kind of discount for ordering 12 or more, but NO! They don't offer you shit. My boss about had a coronary when I told him the amount they wanted to charge. When I called to cancel the order, I was informed that because it wasn't 24 hours notice (it was LITERALLY 23 1/2 hours notice), they told me that I was now going to be put on a list in their shop that would require payment up- front for any orders. My response? "When I called to place the order, I asked if I could pre-pay and was told I could not. So how the hell are you going to make me pre-pay in the future?" I wasn't impressed by her threat to put me on a "list". How about I put you on my own list, Bake N' Cakes? It's called PLACES I WILL NEVER, EVER SHOP AT AGAIN. Sugar Shack has no trouble taking my business. read more

Horrible experience! Ordered a large birthday cake for an event last weekend 8/29- simple white cake, white frosting and a few roses. The decorations were nice, the frosting okay - the cake flavor was wrong on so so many levels- it was something akin to Red Velvet (we are only guessing). We were disappointed at the error in flavor - but served it anyway. Many of the guests just ate the frosting and left the cake on the plates and into the trash. The cake it was a bland, dry, with the texture of a 'cello sponge'. When contacted, there were no apologies and frankly what could they do? bake us another cake? No thank you! Never, never again. read more

We Showed pictures of a cake we were interested in having made for a children's birthday and what I got was a real mess of a cake. Said their top cake specialist had made the cake and spent a lot of time in it. I said they should be embarrassed because I could have done a better job. Uneven lines, disproportioned cake and just plain ugly. The manager would only reduce the price $15 for an unhappy customer who was promised a comparable cake. Not to mention I had ordered the cake with the manager. Did not purchase the cake on the day of pick up because I was completely unhappy with it. Fixed my problem though and went to sugar shack! Gourmet cupcakes! The bomb! read more

When I travel, I love to review yelp and try different places to eat even if the reviews are bad or subpar. I decided to give this place a chance even though they had a couple of bad reviews and not a huge star rating. When I came into the bakery, the lady that was being helped had several requests of something she was ordering. I feel like the girl behind the counter was not interested in giving this lady good customer service. I am not saying it was bad, it just wasn't good. She had no idea what she could or could not do, and continually had to ask the manager. The lady that helped me was ok. I kind of felt rushed. I decided on on their signature Spartan football cookie, a red velvet cupcake, and two mini lemon cheesecakes. I bought the cupcake and cookie for my son and he hasn't tried them yet. So to be fair, I have no idea if they are good or bad. I did however eat one of the mini cheesecakes I bought. IT WAS FAB! The crust was wonderful, as was the filling. That alone makes it worth the trip! read more

The birthday cake we got from this store was sub par on a number of levels as was the service provided by the staff. Both the chocolate raspberry cake batter and the vanilla butter cream icing were so cloyingly sweet, the cake was virtually inedible. We requested blue, green, and pink lettering and simple flowers as decorations and got some horrendous neon version of those basic colors. Staff members displayed a very disinterested attitude. They expressed annoyance when asked questions about options for the cake, had a strangely difficult time getting the information correct as to the requested decoration, and were argumentative about setting up a time for pick up. We will never purchase anything from this bakery again. read more

Workers are very rude. My family order a cake for my sons birthday and we asked for balloons and confetti put on the cake, kinda like a splatter on there, they gave us 3 different colors balloons together and nothing else. We also asked for a two layers cake and we only got one layer and we got charged for two layers. The cake is very good but they do not know how to take orders or decorate. Very unsatisfied. We told the worker that we did not want a the cake to look like that and the cakes in the display cakes looked better, but all the worker said was "oh" and didn't seem to care. I would not recommend if you wanted a very decorated cake. read more

We ordered a cake for a surprise birthday party. It was supposed to have a dream catcher on it. They asked for a picture of one. We provided several to give them an idea of what one looks like. They took the small photo we gave them, along with the written directions, and transferred it onto the cake. Then they put some flowers around it! When we complained about it they did nothing! Didn't apologize, give our money back (we paid in advance) offer a store credit. The management and talent has gone downhill. There is no talent or imagination anymore. I will be sure to tell everyone I know to NEVER order a cake from there again! What a disappointment! read more

Customer service was very nice. The cakes are very moist but they are a little too sweets. Wish they didn't use so much sugar cream. Had the cake shot and I could only take one bite soooo sweet gave me a headache!! read more

My daughter bought a 1/4 sheet cake for her fiancés MSU graduation...$45. On the way, my husband took a turn too fast and my elbow hit the box and part of the Spartan "S" got messed up. We ran over to Bakencakes and asked them if they could fix it. This was at 7:15, and they were closing at 8. They said no they didn't have time. Then they said yes we can fix it ... it'll take 15 mins and cost $20. I told them she already paid $45. They said well we can't help you. They mentioned having to frost cakes all night as soon as they closed. I asked if I could buy some green frosting and they said they'd run out of that color. (Really? This was a Friday and you just said you had a lot of cakes to frost that night?). Then I asked to buy some white frosting. They said we don't have any. My husband then asked to use a knife so we could try and fix it. They pointed to the plastic knives that people take for takeout. I asked for some hot water and they reluctantly gave me a cup of water. I fixed it myself and it looked pretty decent. However... I will never recommend or go to this place again. The girls working there were very rude and snotty. If this was my business I would've helped as much as I could. They didnt give a shit...not their problem. Also, I know the community helped support you when you were flooded out recently. You might want to pay it forward .... the cake was just alright by the way. Your frosting is sickeningly greasy. read more

I absolutely love love love Bake n' cakes!! :) I love their iced sugar cookies they are always so yummy and you can taste the butter which makes them so good! I cannot wait to graduate from school to get a fantastic cake made by them! read more

I always get incredible service here, and they've actually fulfilled every weird request I've given them (like, "do you have any plates in back that look like they would have come from my home and could you put my order on that so it looks like I made it myself?"). I've also ordered dozens of cupcakes 2 hours before I need them and they have been happy to personalize and fulfill my request. The cakes are my favorite. And it's a moderately priced bakery, so you're paying a good price for excellent food. I always get the impression that the staff loves their jobs and my kids always request their items for holidays and birthdays. I'm definitely a fan. read more

Always delicious cakes...I had them do a bowling theme cake for my husband and they did an awesome job.
