Very clean and everyone who worked there was so kind and eager to help with our table of 8. The chef/owner came out to chat about our friends adorable baby and gush about her new grandson. very precious interaction. The menu has OPTIONS and literally everything our party had looked amazing. I got the bed head BLT and the bacon was so thicc I want it every day of my life. The bread was hearty and a little more toasted than preferred, but better that than soggy. I think the crusty bread just made it harder to eat. (But we made it work HA! So yummy) the potatoes had so much flavor, rosemary which I loved but some of the kids in the party did not care for. My partner got the breakfast nook and it was pretty simple and tasty. The fruit and yogurt bowl was a hit and looked incredibly fresh. The naan plate also got good reviews. Terrible Experience! Went with my family in hopes of a nice breakfast, seated ourselves (as directed by a sign), and immediately noticed how incredibly hot it was inside. After ten minutes of watching a single server cover the entire room, she told us she'd be "right with us," dropped off two menus for the three of us. I asked if there was a problem with the air conditioning, she said she didn't know, but said she'd point the fan toward us, and scurried away, sweating profusely. That was the last we heard from her, as we sat, no water, to coffee, no attention, nothing. After 25 minutes we just got up and left. I let her know we were leaving, "Have a nice day." As we walked out, noticed most of the other tables were waiting, no food, some had water. So much for their claim, "So bring a friend or loved one and treat yourselves to a special day." What's Good This is the kind of place I generally root for. Locally owned, attention to ambience and identity, a focused menu that doesn't try to do too much, and an effort to make you feel welcomed. Batter Up Bistro reminds me of several places I've visited in New Orleans with a jazz trio playing ragtime as I enjoyed brunch and maybe a midday Hurricane cocktail. The interior is rustic chic while still being warm and inviting and I really enjoyed the beverages I ordered. The Apple Crisp Latte ($8) I ordered for my breakfast visit was hot and made me feel even more cozy. Apple simple syrup paired with house coffee blend and oat milk with notes of cinnamon was very pleasing to the palette without been blown away by apple flavor. The Baron ($15) was a pre-dinner cocktail with whiskey, ginger beer & liquor, almond bitters, and a hickory smoked finish. It was strong, but not breathtaking, a well-balanced flavor profile. What's Really Good Dinner service was suitable even if a bit slow, especially given the few diners that were also in attendance that evening. The bar tender was also waiting tables and while he was capable and hospitable, he clearly had too much on his plate running the front of house solo. I started with the Sea Scallop appetizer ($17). Three substantial scallops with a dill forward dusting sit atop a lovely, creamy parsnip puree. The puree was slightly sweet and the microgreens that were likely intended more as a garnish offered a nice textural note. The scallops were cooked uneven if I'm being honest where only one out of the three had a desirable brown crust and the other two were grayer. Dinner went up several notches with the Pan-seared Salmon ($32) which I ordered blackened. The fish was tender and flaky, and the blackened seasoning was right on target. The salmon paired quite well with the roasted Brussels sprouts, which themselves had a lovely char, and the wild rice. I also appreciated the accompanying blackberries which offered a touch of sweetness without compromising earthiness. Best Bite My first visit was a bit lonely as I was the only patron dining on a Thursday mid-morning. Perhaps the previous day's snowfall had scared others away, but I was itching to get out and about finding the breakfast selections a respite from winter's doldrums. I ordered the Eggs Benny ($20) with perfectly poached eggs atop their delightful house baked toast which was dense enough to hold up the thinly sliced ham, eggs, microgreens, and herbaceous hollandaise sauce. The sauce was rich and creamy with a pleasant punch of lemon and dill. The dish is served with garlic and herbed red skin breakfast potatoes and they were a hit. Also, a star was the side of thick cut bacon ($8) which was smokey and a perfect medium cook. The first time I tried Batter Up Bistro, everything was great. We just visited a few weeks ago on a Sunday and though it was not super busy everything was off. It took over 2 hours to get our food and the food was slightly disappointing. First with the drinks I ordered a hot chocolate and my hot chocolate was not even room temperature. By the time the server came back 30-45 minutes later I had already finished it and didn't have the heart to complain. Next the entrees, I ordered the Naan scramble dish and it was basically an omelet inside Naan bread supposed to be drizzled with hot honey. There was so much hot honey on the bread that it was sickly sweet and difficult to eat though the omelet was actually spicy which is what I wanted. My husband ordered the play on Monte Cristo sandwich and thought it was okay though not amazing for the amount of time we waited also the berry compote didnt go with the sandwich like a classic monte cristo. Overall a little disappointing but maybe will come back another day. read more

Wow, this is a little gem tucked away along the 600 block of Michigan Avenue , in Lansing. We started off with the bruschetta bread / goat cheese( a meal by itself) and I also had the Bristol Burger which I thought was pretty good , it came with fries and a salad. I thought the service was really good fast and friendly. The Bristol itself is very clean , quiet, they do have soft music playing in the background which I thought was pretty cool. This is something that you yourself would have to check out and decide if you like it or not, I think it's worthy of it return to check out the early brunch. This is our favorite restaurant in Lansing. We have been here for our last three meals while in town for a convention down the street. The ambience is fantastic. The service is excellent. The food is well plated. Even the music is very pleasing. Just a great experience all around. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is that their air conditioning isn't working and apparently it hasn't been working for weeks. That should really be a priority as it is summertime. This place has kind of weird seating. The ambience is cool but it feels like a bar more than a restaurant. I definitely recommend the breakfast sandwich. It's like the top ordered one. We had one good server although we have been here three times. Our first server Kind of was weird. He didn't give my fiancé the drink he ordered, but instead said he would give one he usually gets. This is a tough one. It's Easter Sunday. We are first time empty nesters. Meaning the first year my wife has not got to make her delicious food as she has every holiday for decades. It's an adjustment. And we miss those kids. I decided to take her out and get her mind off of it all. She was apprehensive but excited. I wanted something we hadn't tried and a generous holiday brunch with a pretty surrounding and good food. After looking for a time I found Batter Up Bistro. Judging from the former reviews, it was a nice place with some growing pains, but it seemed Brunch would be a good thing. (Plenty of food made to please a crowd). You were required to make reservations and be subject to a $20 per person cancellation fee. But I felt safe. The buffet was $35 per person. $70 for a nice table and great buffet. As I read on it said that you would only be seated for the duration of an hour and a half. I thought that was fair for the high turnover they might have. So we were set. This morning we were sent a reminder of our table seating at 1230. I thought "Excellent" they are on it. We got there at exactly the right time. The bistro was packed. It was elegant and warm. A man we presumed to be the owner held the door open for my wife and I as we walked in. That was a good sign. As we entered no one greeted us so we kind of meandered around as we saw names on the tables and a few of them were open so we looked to find them. As we ran out of walkway a gal asked what our names were and said OH! Yes. I have you right up here... at the BAR. 2 seats of to the left far end. Next to another couple and an arrangement of desserts. This was NOT a good sign for Easter Brunch. We were then given a drink menu. The ONLY thing that came with our $35 brunch was water. No coffee ($6) no juice. No other beverage was offered. I thought well, maybe a mimosa since we may need a drink before this is all over. A flute glass was given for $11. Among the brunch offerings listed was this at the end: "full bar featuring many flavors of mimosas along with specialty coffees, juices, milk, pop & ice tea" then a few lines down it says: (Drinks available for an additional fee and not included in the buffet price.) We sat there a bit and finally a young lady came and told us to take our plates up and fill them. So we went and there were about 12 selections. Many of them were not refilled and it was cumbersome as there was no where to set your plate down to lift the covers off with one hand and scoop on your plate with the other. I thought I was clever when I slid the cover toward the back of the pan... only to have it fall on to the floor at the feet of an elderly fellow setting way too close. The embarrassment was more than I needed. I went and apologized and picked up the plate to an audience of stares. A young lady briskly took it away and I went back to trying to get some food. I came back to the bar with half a plate of what was left. It was all right. The cheesy scrambled eggs were good. The garlic herb potatoes were the same. Rice custard was bland and needed the peaches. The spelt bread toast was hard and there was nothing offered to put on it. I had wanted to have some of their french toast, but the other customers must have known it was the best which always left an empty pan when I tried to revisit. Here is something: We were not given a clean plate to go back to the buffet. So we had to eat everything OR try to make it look acceptable to stand in line again. I thought for a buffet, it is standard practice to have a clean plate. This just felt off. As the bar emptied two seats a party of four glamorous people entered. Furs and all. They were aloof and seemingly upset that there was not a table there for them. They were offered a seat at the bar which was clearly beneath them. Stood next to me with their antics and eye rolling until they did indeed - get a nice table. I waited until they left and walked to the right side of the bar and tried to get some cheesecake. We were asked if we were done with our plates by a cheery young bartender and we said yes. He promptly took them away and asked if we were ready for the bill. I said absolutely. That came in a few seconds. Totalling $97 for 2 brunches and 2 drinks. I gotta say, I expected more. Maybe flowers on the table... server clearing your plate... or.. a table. Thats what we reserved for. The left over food we got each time was OK, but it could have been better. I have a feeling this place can really make some good things. We were disappointed for sure. It was off putting for an experience that should have been a highlight for the day. I get restaurants have growing pains, but customers should NOT have to pay full price for them. And if you offer a holiday brunch, MAKE IT SPECIAL for the customer and not just a cash grab for you. You never know who is setting at your tables or what they do for a living. read more

The food was good but it took about an hour to get it from the time we ordered and we had a table of 7. The restaurant was not busy, only had about 3 other tables. The service was not good. We had to get up from the table 3 times to ask for things. I wish I good give this place a better rating because it truly has so much potential but they need to make some major changes. read more

Had a reservation for 10 people (out of town) and confirmed. Showed up at the restaurant and was told we had to wait for table. Sat at the bar and was ignored to make a drink order. Had to ask for drink service and then told they were out of the alcohol needed to make the drink. Asked about getting seated after 15 minutes and was ignored. Finally got some drinks ordered but no compensation. Ended up leaving after 30 minutes without honoring reservations or offering to order food at the bar. Went down the street to another place. My parents and I stopped in for brunch on an early Sunday afternoon. Although the restaurant was packed, our service was wonderful. We sat at the bar and Andrew, the bartender, made a great Espresso Martini. Our order, two omelets and a BLT, did take about a half hour, however, it was well worth the wait. We were thinking sports bar from the name but not even close. It's a small, intimate bar and restaurant with a delicious menu.
