This is a little hidden gem on mich ave... I stopped in on a while on a sunny bike ride. The inside is really cool...old time rustic..All restored to original...brick..and wood..and delicate plaster ceiling! It looks like something in old London! Anyway..I tried an iced coffee. And ordered the Ham-cheese-egg breakfast sandwich...Now..you must be patient here! It took about 25min to get my food..I was getting a little grumpy!! But when it showed up...Oh my!! It was so gorgeous!! Home fries so crispy...The sandwich was Awsome!! Multi grain bread..grilled perfectly...a full fried egg on each half...cheese melting off every edge! And the ham!! Disappointed. I went here with a group of 5 ladies on May 8th. The server was great. The omelets were good. But, the prices were high, reflecting what I would Happily pay to have Maitake(Hen of the Woods), which are gourmet mushrooms, in our omelets as described in the menu. They were NOT in any of the omelets, only regular button mushrooms. I know that most people wouldn't realize that that they were missing this high ticket item, but I have gathered these Maitake mushrooms(& many other gourmet types) in the woods myself & know what I'm talking about. On discovering this, I spoke to the server(a sweet young woman), she apologized & checked with the kitchen. She came back & said that they told her that they'd not had them for Months!! And that they had been unable to get them from their distributor( in Grand Rapids). Which I am also very familiar with as they have a stall at all the different farmers markets in the Lansing area. Which means that they have representatives here selling gourmet mushrooms almost every day of the week. So they easily could get a different gourmet mushrooms as a substitute & validate their prices. I was not offered a discount. I feel this is a dishonest practice on their part. read more

I'm not a reviewer by any means and the fact that this review is based on a private party setting doesn't help either.... BUT: the setting was very flexible and afforded seating for 2,4 and up to 8 without moving anything; the ambiance was very comfortable and laid back with muted lighting. The staff were knowledgeable, very friendly and could have handled serving royalty (if any had been around!)... they were right there with everything that you needed. OK. Service and Ambiance: CHECK! Now for the FOOD! Like I mentioned when I began all this, I'm not a reviewer, but the food was GREAT! A cutting board stocked with a variety of cheeses, nuts, berries, crackers started us off on our adventure. Wines to suit your palette followed by fresh salad paired with delicious dressings; a buffet style offering followed. The chef worked miracles in my mouth! All the selections complimented each other and were delicious. And the evening was topped off by cheese cake and coffee... there wasn't a single individual there who didn't give stellar compliments to the staff; a thoroughly enjoyable and delectable evening! Batter up bistro was such a great find this afternoon! My partner & I went out for lunch here today. Walking in was like walking into a posh vintage shop/cafe. It was so lush and atmospheric! We seen bistro and thought it would be a cute stop for lunch but walking in I thought it would be super pricey! I was impressed with the mid level prices about $10 each sandwich which kinda expensive but at the same time the atmosphere was amazing in a cute downtown area and the food was seriously Beyond amazing! The owner Keri (i hope i spelled that correctly) is such an amazing cook! The bread was amazing and the cheese and vegis were so good! My bf ordered a grilled cheese on home made bread and it was amazing! I forgot what kind of cheese but it was great. I ordered a veg sandwich & I don't think I could have made a better choice because it was literally perfect! Eggplant, tomato & balsamic with some other vegis too. It was perfect topped off with a glaze of reduced balsamic! The food was super presentable I can tell the owner is beyond passionate about her bistro. On the way out We also spotted lots of sweets and pastries!! We will have to come back! I was told they opened in October so this is a newer place. read more

This is our new favorite lunch spot in Lansing! The restaurants' ambiance brought us in, the excellent food will bring us back again. My wife and I each ordered a chicken salad. They were brought to us quickly. We were pleased with the freshness and combination of vegetables. The meat was seasoned to perfection. Our waitress was very friendly and informed us the food was locally sourced, and organic -- a big bonus for us. Plus, they make all their salad dressing from scratch. My daughter and I came in for lunch for the first time and were blown away. The food was delicious. We had the BLT and the chicken sandwich. High quality ingredients, homemade sauces, and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is homey and comfortable. We couldn't get over how friendly the staff was, especially the owner. She cared to know more about her guests. When we were leaving, we were admiring the baked goods and the owner (with Thanksgiving approaching) gave us some to try and take home! First time at this bistro and was very pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant of this quality. We were there for breakfast. Although a limited menu, there were enough choices and variety of egg dishes. The potatoes and home made bread were delicious side dishes. Everything is prepared as ordered so plan to have a leisurely meal. Portions are generous. There are freshly made bakery items too. The organic oatmeal with berries, nuts and a dollop of yogurt was the best I have had and a very large portion. They also serve lunch and brunch on the weekends. I've been excited to visit Batter Up since they opened. I finally got a chance today. It was disappointing. The food was very good, but the service was slow, slow, slow. After a quick greeting from the waitress, it was 15 minutes before she got me a menu, 20 before taking my order. It took 55 minutes from the time I walked in to get my pancakes and bacon. And it wasn't because they were busy, there were only 6 other guests in the place. As I said, the food was very good, the atmosphere is terrific, but I doubt I'll be back. A really cute little cafe. I remarked to my partner that it looks exactly how I'd decorate my dream restaurant. The bread is to die for. I had to take half my sandwich home because it was giant! I understand that the hours are probably due to the place being so new, but 7-2 means that lots of working folks in Lansing won't get a chance to try this gem. Why is 1 the lowest?? Thursday a little before noon my family and I attempted to eat lunch here. Two tables had patrons eating, and we were the third table. After ordering our food, about 20 min later, the cook came to the table. He said he could only make one of the COLD chicken salad sandwiches we ordered because they were out. We ordered a different sandwich and waited another 15 minutes to be served. In total we waited 35 minutes for the cook to make 4 sandwiches. The food arrived, and the bread on all of our sandwiches was extremely hard and dry (possibly overcooked), like crouton hard. We attempted to pick apart the sandwiches and continue eating until my daughter bit into a hair in the chicken sandwich. At this point we were all turned off and I called the staff to the table. The cook returned and indicated he had an 'incident' in the kitchen and that he was making sure "none of that" got in our food. He was wearing a glove with visible blood on the glove. I asked if he was ok, he replied he was fine. He said, "Also, I wear a hairnet, but sometimes small hairs still makes their way in and I don't know how" He left and the waitress returned and offered to remake the sandwiches. We declined, indicating the problem with the bread and hair. We demonstrated how hard the bread was, and she tried to argue it was soft in the middle. We told of the hair and she said, "What color was it? He wears a hair net so IDK how that would happen..." we said blonde (her hair was blonde). She said, "Well his hair isn't blonde".... We consumed 2 lattes, a cold tea (they were also out of ice), 1/2 an Italian sandwich, 2 bites of a chicken salad sandwich, 1 bite of a different chicken sandwich, 1 bite of a grilled cheese, and some chips. We were given a bill for $37.10 - which was a discount!?!?! This is a great place to get a drink with no ice & a $15 hairy sandwich on day old, overcooked bread from a inconvenienced waitress and a cook with bloody gloves! Enjoy! read more

So glad this downtown Lansing restaurant was open on a Sunday. So few are these days. First time here and our first impressions were off the charts. What a charming, comfy, restaurant - exposed brick, tin ceilings, décor to make you feel like you're your living room, and not a restaurant. Darling. We started off with coffee and split an apple turnover - the only breakfast appropriate sweet item in the restaurant. The coffee was superb, but we were disappointed with the turnover. It was chewy and tough. It didn't taste like it was fresh, and could have benefited from being heated up. We split a Greek omelet & a BLT breakfast sandwich for our main entrée. Both were served with garlic & rosemary fried red potatoes & homemade toast that were both delish. The omelet was the fluffiest I've ever eaten. Topped with fresh spinach which was wilted by the heat of the eggs. Superb cooking, taste and presentation. After 1 bite we both had to take the sandwich home as we were full. I heated it up the next morning and had several co-workers willing to take it off my hands - the sweetened bacon, egg, spinach, tomato, cheese & egg were amazing on the homemade, toasted & buttered bread. I must say it was just as good, if not better, the second day. A big disappointment that the owner doesn't take some of her amazing breads and add French toast or pancakes to the menu. It's an obvious addition to the brunch menu that I only get to imagine what it would taste like. These types of small restaurants are a rarity in Lansing, so please visit to keep it going! read more
