We met and discussed options and made a down payment for her services. About a month before the event, she sent us a message that she would no longer be able to cater for us due to a traumatic accident. We gave her time to heal and get through PT but now, a year after paying our deposit, we still have not gotten it back. We also no longer get responses to emails or txts. Wanted to share our experience so others do not have this same experience with COP.

She offered great suggestions and help us to find a great option within our budget when the party kept growing in guests. Communication was great through the planning period and she arrived early to deliver the food. She even helped out with a few other non food related tasks when we didn't even ask her to do so. The food was OUTSTANDING! The absolute best catered food I have ever had. The food was very flavorful, beautifully presented and high quality. Guests raved about the food and a few went back for seconds and thirds. Having owned an event planning company and worked on planning many events that required catering service, I must say that Center of the Plate is the best I've ever worked with and apparently a best kept secret of Lansing.

I was down because I'll eat anywhere at any time with you, darling! We landed the Starship out front of Saddleback BBQ and I'll be honest, people, I was excited! We entered at an off hour as there were no other customers. After ordering, we sat down and eagerly awaited our food. Oh boy, did that food come fast!! Placed in front of me was my order of a pulled pork sandwich with the slaw on the side. My two sides were the obvious: macaroni and cheese, while my second was the deviled eggs as your boy has been straight HANKERING for some deviled eggs! Right off the rip, I had to try those eggs! Ooooh la laaaaaaa!! They may be deviled, but those eggs are straight from heaven! I'll take a dozen please, and that may even be too few! I'm not even being egg-stra when I say that either. After being delighted by my first side, I decided to dig right into that miggity miggity mac next! Let me tell you fine folks something! You think you know creamy, but this mac is supremely creamy! Love the noodle style and length too. A good hit of cheese soaked into the veins of each noodle. I'd say this macaroni will satisfy me any day of the week! The main event was my pulled pork sandwich, and boy, did they stack the kid up with the pork! I drenched it in their sweet and savory sauce and went to town. Love the seasoning and smoke on the meat. Tender and juicy, this is a good-tasting pig. Very soft bun too; I'll gladly eat a hefty sandwich of this. Good thing as the portion size is generous! This is the type of food I could eat daily and always be satisfied. Cutie agrees too! She ordered a pulled pork plate with Mac and cheese along with corn cakes! She was so kind to ask me to eat some which I was more than happy to! Those corn cakes are delectable! I've recently become a corn enthusiast, and these little cakes I must say are divine! Basically, what I'm saying is this: Saddleback does it nice, folks! Cannot wait to go back when we happen to be in the area! What a meal! Five sweet and savory stars out of five! See ya on the flippity!

Well, because our congregation had a small list of approved caterers, and my daughter wanted one thing for the big celebration: a chocolate fountain. As luck would have it, The Moveable Feast has a chocolate fountain front and center on its website, so they were the obvious choice. The only other thing the Bat Mitzvah Girl wanted was bagels and cream cheese, which is her favorite food and pretty much impossible to mess up. Especially when the caterer agrees to source the bagels from Zingerman's Bakehouse. But one needs more for a luncheon than just bagels, cream cheese, and a chocolate fountain. That is where Misty Rose entered the picture. She got what we were going for and helped to round out the rest of the menu. I was told we had to get the whitefish as it was a signature dish of the company, and that was a great call. The pastrami spiced smoked salmon was tasty too. Having grilled vegetables was a fantastic idea as well. If I were to have TMF cater another event I might skip the red pepper hummus, the beet and quinoa salad, and the frittata. I make all of these things at home on the regular, and not to brag, but mine are better. However, those each served a role in the buffet, which on the whole was well received. Where The Moveable Feast shined brightest was its staff. They were extraordinary! Misty for both her flexibility and her patience in dealing with a father who was planning an event at the earliest stages of Omicron. Misty also directed me to A1 Rentals and helped to come up with several floor plans to make a 20' x 40' tent feel like a celebratory space. Plus the event staff were simply heroic, setting up the tent while I was at the ceremony and having everything ready by the time our guests arrived. Everyone who braved traveling to Michigan in December amidst a growing pandemic had a great time. The bartender roaming around pushing mimosas certainly helped. As did the tent heaters, which TMF helped to get back online when one wasn't working. They called up the rental company and made sure A1 brought over a new one. Plus the TMF crew even helped to spread out some straw when the lawn got sloppy thanks to the unexpected ice storm. If you've read down this far, you might be asking yourself, "So why only four stars?" Well, if you recall, the critical components of this event were a chocolate fountain, bagels, and cream cheese. The chocolate fountain was everything the guest of honor had hoped for... and maybe more. But somehow, the caterer forgot to bring the cream cheese. And a bagel without cream cheese is like a hug without the squeeze. I know that's not actually how the line goes. Still... it's close. My personal belief is that a business is best defined by what happens when something goes wrong. In this case, their first offer was to simply not charge me for the food they didn't bring. That was not terribly satisfying. Ultimately, the resolution was a sum that was roughly equivalent to the mimosas which helped make our adult guests happy despite the omission. I appreciated the gesture, but would have preferred an outcome that did not feel as transactional. You know, like a tray of sweets, or an "I'm sorry" cake. I know I'm weird about this, but money feels kinda dirty. Although at some point it's best to just take the offer and move on. Which is exactly what I did. Would I work with The Moveable Feast again? Absolutely! Would I recommend them to anyone who asks? You bet. Would they work with me again? I certainly hope so. We had a tremendous amount of leftovers, which included a few pounds of smoked salmon and multiple pints of whitefish. We were even able to salvage some of the ambrosial nectar from the chocolate fountain. More importantly, thanks to TMF we were able to pull off a successful event in the face of some abysmal conditions. I mean... on top of everything a last minute ice storm? And despite being down a person, they did it all with a smile. Bravo!

Very clean and everyone who worked there was so kind and eager to help with our table of 8. The chef/owner came out to chat about our friends adorable baby and gush about her new grandson. very precious interaction. The menu has OPTIONS and literally everything our party had looked amazing. I got the bed head BLT and the bacon was so thicc I want it every day of my life. The bread was hearty and a little more toasted than preferred, but better that than soggy. I think the crusty bread just made it harder to eat. (But we made it work HA! So yummy) the potatoes had so much flavor, rosemary which I loved but some of the kids in the party did not care for. My partner got the breakfast nook and it was pretty simple and tasty. The fruit and yogurt bowl was a hit and looked incredibly fresh. The naan plate also got good reviews. We would go back if we're ever randomly in Lansing again. Plus we love to support a woman owned business!
