DO NOT BUY CUSTOM CAKE FROM BAKE N' CAKES!!!! cake decorators are awful; they cannot follow a simple pattern or direction. Sent multiple inspiration photos and the cake I received was not up to the standard i would expect from a professional cake decorator. The color was asked to be a sage green and it was a neon green; even when picking from a list of color samples they cannot match colors correctly when asked. I asked for the cake to say congrats and they put "congratulations" which overcrowded the cake. I asked for specific piping on the side of the cake, which they did not do. Additionally, I was told that if there were any issues at pick up, they would be able to be fixed upon pick up; but when asked to fix the awful attempt at the design i wanted, they were unable to fix any mistakes. When asked for a partial refund or extra frosting to fix the design, at home, I was told they will throw the cake away. Staff is unpleasant, unprofessional, and cannot help with any changes wanted to anything preordered and designed. Was unable to speak to the manager as they refused to fix any issues or speak to me, only relayed information through another employee. Would rate this negative stars if i could, if walmart had any cakes available, I would have gotten my refund and bought a cake from walmart, however since it was graduation weekend, there were no available cakes anywhere else on the weekend. We were charged $90 for a cake that had an awful attempt to a design, as well as it tasted dry, with thick, artificial tasting frosting. DO NOT BUY CAKE FROM HERE!!! read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED with this cake decorating service!!!!! The cake I received was extremely unfinished and I payed a ton of money for it. The words were not centered There was not a single decoration on the top other than small words in the lower corner of the cake. Nothing about it looked right. When I brought this to their attention, I was told my next cake would be on them as they did not have any decorators available to fix it. However, when I later called to order another cake, they said they would not honor the free cake they had promised. This was frustrating and unprofessional. I called and asked for a birthday cake for my daughters first birthday and she unfortunately has an egg allergy and needed a cake made with out eggs which is not a big ask as there are many egg substitutes. I had heard good things about this place and decided to use them to make a cake for a military retirement party. I showed them a picture of what I was hoping for. While I don't expect it to be exact, their attempt at replicating the cake was pathetic. It looked like it had been done by a 5 year old. Before I even picked up my cake I had called a couple days before asking if I could change the time of pick up to an hour or so earlier than originally planned. The employee I spoke to said no problem and that she had updated it. When I go to pick it up, they said it wasn't ready yet and there was no record of the pick up time having been changed. Then when I finally got the cake...it just looked pathetic. The lines on the flag were mismatched in size and crooked. The rank was supposed to be MSgt and they put Master MSgt and then put the dates on the same line as the name when it was supposed to be on 2 lines. The edible paper they put on it was literally just laid on top with no attempt to blend into the frosting to make it look seamless. The cake at least tasted good so we just cut it up without having it out for display....so if you want a basic sheet cake and aren't worried about what it looks like, then this your place. I returned them in their own box and they would have to conduct a research of receipts in order to issue a credit while I waited since I paid cash. this was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. My mother had ordered a birthday cake and was trying to surprise me. Therefore, she had my boyfriend pick it up to her surprise. Both the cake and cupcake orders were completed wrong. I personally took back both to the store on my own birthday and tried to work it out with who I was told was the manager Mara. I was met with extreme disrespect, and she was honestly just quite rude. I politely asked if they would just fix the grammar that was done wrong on the cake, as the happy birthday statement was not grammatically correct. She refused to help me when I asked if I could buy icing and fix it myself she said she was not going to help me not only was she unwilling to help she didn't want to. Hard Luck Chuck Got a birthday cake decorated for my 90 year old neighbor. It's a good thing she mentioned that her sense of taste had almost completely left her as she had grown older. The cake was terrible. It was dry with extremely sweet frosting and no flavor. I was shocked to see they only have 2.3 stars on here. We've been using Bake N' Cakes for years. We've bought their cakes for kids birthdays, we buy gourmet cupcakes at every birthday, we just purchased brownies, a German chocolate cake and a carrot cake for a party and they all tasted AMAZING. Also, something I only recently learned, they sell cards for $1.00'ish. Instead of spending $6 on a card, I can give a card AND a delicious cupcake, which is SO MUCH BETTER, right? The staff is incredibly friendly and we have had great experiences here year after year. Also, they have great hours. I can stop in before work or after work and they are open. Wow! I guess I should have read the reviews before ordering a cake from them. I ordered half red velvet half cheesecake. She asked me if I wanted anything written on it. with "Happy Birthday" Matt" in blue on it. It turns out they put pink frosting all over it too. They never told me it would be pink. When I went to pick it up it was pink! When I pointed it out the woman told me it was red frosting. She asked if I had looked online to see what the cake would look like. I said no I ordered it in the store. I would think good customer service would have included the order taker to inform me that it would have pink frosting on it especially when o asked for blue lettering. I directed her to the heart shaped sugar cookies where there half of the cookies had red frosting and the other half had pink frosting on them and asked her which one most closely resembled the frosting on my cake. Hint it wasn't the cookie with red frosting. Horrible customer service to boot. They told me they couldn't fix it and said I could come back tomorrow. Glaring problem was I needed the cake for the day I picked up the cake. They finally admitted it wasn't re frosting and the decorator most likely didn't put enough red dye in the frosting. You think! They do not have pictures of cakes they've done, and for several months, they've been saying they're working on their web site. We've had the other items and although they weren't bad, they weren't usually anything to write home about. A long long time ago I had a dry cupcake. Never have I had a bad tasting cake. Its a great spot to do last minute. I had one memorable pre-ordered cake 9 years ago where I paid extra for jungle decor on the cake. The party participants were impressed. I am very disappointed with Bake and Cakes. My family and I walk in to do a cake tasting for a wedding cake after my mother-in-law called ahead and was told that walk-ins were okay. We ask about it and get told we have to order and buy something first before we can cake taste. The woman we talked to, Mariah, was also very rude and gave short answers to any questions we had but otherwise acted as if she would rather be doing something better. I had a horrible experience at Bake N' Cakes. My order was supposed to be ready for pickup at 10am and I showed up at 10:40 to pick it up. They could not find my order and had to go make it, I waited an extra 30 minutes. After I received the cupcakes I realized they made them incorrectly so we then had to wait another 30 minutes. In total I spent an hour waiting for my cupcakes while arriving after the designated pickup time. After argument all they could offer was either a free cupcake or a 10% discount on the order and did not offer any more after they made them incorrectly. While we were waiting another woman came in and was picking up her order she placed, they could not find it either and made it incorrectly. I was very displeased with the manager Mya's willingness to correct their wrongdoing and her poor attitude. She stated she remembered taking the order and that we must have placed the order wrong. We even clarified on the phone the difference between white and vanilla and yet we got chocolate? Also if she remembered taking the order why weren't they ready on time? When I saw the price of a quarter sheet cake starting at 37 dollars just for the cake and additional for decorating I about fell over. I actually know how to decorate cakes as my mom used to be a cake decorator many years ago at Kwast Bakeries in Lansing so I said "ya know what I will just fit in the time to make and decorate one myself and it won't cost me a fortune either. The woman on the phone provided FANTASTIC customer service! She was very friendly, helpful, informative, and patient. She was very thorough and went over every detail. I just can't say enough about how pleasantly surprised and satisfied I was. I will update this review about the quality of the product after the torte is delivered.
