This place has some really cool baked goods, very creative and visually appealing. The drinks are ok but overall cafe seems to be pretty legit and Asian style. In the summer when the patio is open it's definitely the place to be !

It is one of my favourite café. The strawberry cake is so good it's not too sweet! They also have great coffee. Love it!

Another great Bake Code location! We came here because it was the closest BBT (without crossing the street) to the restaurant we were at. Got a few bubble teas (tea of the month, passion fruit green tea) and a few pasties (coffee croissant and cinnamon roll) Everything was perfect and just how we wanted it to be!!

The counter with it's many pastries.

TL;DR It's not perfect, but it wholeheartedly deserves five stars for the great bakery. I saw a few highly negative and many positive reviews and got curious. Here's my take: great bakery, ok coffee. The bakery is excellent. I tried two things: their butter croissant and their swirled tiramisu croissant. The former tells me what I need to know about their skills as a baker. The latter tells me who they are as a business since it's their latest promotion. The butter croissant is the simplest thing on their menu, thus, the hardest thing to pull off. You can't hide behind a filling or a gimmick. And I'm glad to say their croissant is up there with the best in the city (that's coming from a guy who lived in Paris). The dough has the right amount of flakiness and hydration, and, more importantly, it tastes like quality butter, the most essential ingredient in a croissant. If I'm being very picky, I may say that the croissant is a bit on the oily side, but I'm not removing any stars for that. If you want a good croissant, this is the place. The swirled croissant is fun. Get ready: it's a messy affair, but that's what makes it fun. The mascarpone cream was a pleasant surprise. Unlike too many bakeries in Toronto that sell you a cheap facsimile, this one tasted like mascarpone, although more diluted in taste than the real thing. It's also much less sweet than the original Italian recipe, which is a significant plus. The chocolate cream is alright. I would have preferred a more robust cocoa flavor and a hint of espresso, but it's not a deal breaker. The pastry is dense but crispy, and the layers of sweet puff pastry rolled together make it a fun, albeit messy, dessert. My experience with their coffee was more nuanced. First, serving an espresso in a big take out cup when I'm eating on location is a big no no. It cools the coffee too fast. Please use a nice thick cup. Additionally, their espresso was under-extracted for my taste. If you like something a bit more acidic, then you'll be happy with it, and the overall product is ok. Just not really to my taste. However, they do have quite a few choices for beverages, so you have options. Finally, the friendly and efficient staff makes up for the loud music. The place is clean and well-lit. There are only a few seats indoors and a cute patio to watch people pass by. In a nutshell, it's a nice place to hang out. You may not write the next Canadian novel, but you'll have an enjoyable time.

I was so looking forward to trying this place. The counter service was quite cold. I purchased (and tried) a piece each of: The espresso/coffee croissant. Meh. Dry. The custard filled 1/2 moon. Very rich, dense and tasted more like a weird cream cheese thing (threw it out). The second custard pastry was somewhat better. The mille crepe was not appetizing (threw it out). Red velvet ok but had a salty taste to the frosting and definitely not great. Cheese tart heated was ok. It was the only decent item. Good pastry shell. Overall, everthing was just moderately ok. An expensive lesson - $30 down the drain. Not anything to rave about.

Very upscale bakery! High end pastries and buns. Pre-ordered a set of 2 mooncake, I chose matcha/red bean and black sesame. Each is 2x2" in size and both have salted egg yolk and come individually packaged inside a nice paper slide out box. The black sesame had a nice balance of black sesame, and traditional mooncake flavour. The red bean however was sweeter but had less flavours. Both soft to bite into and not a direct sugar hit to the tongue. A very special treat at $10 a piece, it's nice that they have unique flavours to try on this special occasion!

    Japanese Strawberry Shortcake

Bake Code is an artisan bakery that fused traditional Taiwanese recipes with modern European baking techniques! I ordered their Japanese strawberry shortcake which was super fluffy and light! The cream was not too sweet which is perfect for those who prefer their cakes to be less sweet!! They also have strawberry slices in between the layers of the sponge cake. Will be trying more of their pastries soon Bake Code at North York is available for walk in and they are following the Covid19 health and safety protocol! Hand sanitizers are placed right in front of the door and the employees are wearing masks and face shield! Always make sure you wear your mask which not only protects yourself but others around you

This place has great stuff. My personal preference would be the croissants. Other stuff I'm not a huge fan of but that's just me. I find their stuff is reasonably priced and also not too sweet like other places. The coffee, milk tea flavours are my favourites while my kids like the Nutella and peanut butter ones. Worth a try to see which works for you. At least once.

Bake Code is my uptown go to spot for desserts especially pastries. They have a variety of fresh pastries served each day but my favourite is the almond croissants. They have a lot of space indoors and a small patio spot for summer time. It's honesty the perfect spot to catch up with a friend with a coffee and a pastry.

New Product; Pineapple cake promo poster

After I have been to bake code multiple times over 4 years, I must say there are a few items I absolutely love love love and others that I don't care much. Salted egg yolk croissants and matcha pastry cream croissants are two of my favorite. And I love thier silken tofu black sesame cheese cake. This time I tried their new product called pineapple cake with salted egg yolk. When I looked at the promotion poster, I had no idea what this cake would be like. It was basically traditional Taiwanese pineappple cake with interesting stuffing ($3.20 plus tax). Pastry was full of pineapple flavour ( I assume that brown lining arounnd egg yolk is pineapple jam?) , and it went really really well with salted egg yolk! This can be a definately a good gift for a special occasion( like Lunal New Year?). Earl grey cream flute( I won the contest during xmas and was redeemed today) but it was not really my thing. Croissant Brûlée. Wished they changed name to Creme Brûlée croisssant and add custard inside!

Came back again a few months ago to try the tapioca pizza (not sure if it's still available)! I was honestly quite a surprise that I sort of...liked it? The pizza was very cheesy and surprisingly not bad. The tapioca added a chewy texture and was sweet. The syrup from the tapioca made it taste like sweet cheese, which honestly wasn't that bad. It was a very interesting experience and, if it's still available/will come back again, you should try it!

    Mille crepe!

Mmmmm I've seen their products on social media (Instagram in partnership with Chatime), and my friend and I decided to give this place a try after our dinner at the nearby Nome Izakaya. Their pastries are gorgeous and to die for!! The area is quite small, with limited space. They have two areas for their baked goods, and a large variety of croissants. In fact, they have very interesting flavours such as salted egg, roasted milk tea, Thai milk tea, matcha, almond, nutella, etc. We tried the roasted milk tea and asked them to heat it up there. The inside was gooey and melty, and so delicious! I also bought a nutella, original, and almond one to take home. The nutella one was excellent, though my favourite was the slightly sweetened nutty almond flavour. We also got a strawberry shortcake to share. The cake was fluffy and soft, and the cream was so light! It didn't feel heavy at all, and I loved the sliced strawberries in the cake. So yum!! Next time, I'll definitely try their other Asian inspired buns and flavours (like the taro cream cheese bun, red bean walnut bun, etc.)!

    Charcoal matcha croissant
    Wynne L.

I haven't been to a Bake Code before so my cousins decided that we would head over after our lunch to check it out. I'm a matchaholic and went straight to the matcha croissants. We bought a charcoal matcha croissant to share. It's on the expensive side (almost $5) so be cautious when purchasing baked goods. The croissant was flaky and flavourful although most of the matcha flavour did come from the filling. The only thing I didn't like was the glaze on top. It was awkward to talk since I didn't want other people to see that there were bits of croissant stuck to my teeth. There aren't many seats there so this seems more like a grab and go location.

The pastries and mochi breads are absolutely exquisite! I tried the black sesame mochi bread--light, pillowy, and filled with a delightful little white mochi surprise. The crème brûlée almond tart was incredible too, with its thick, eggy custard and a blueberry-almond center. And the Hitotoki matcha tart? Gorgeous and just perfect. It was my first visit, and I discovered the bakery through their 2nd-anniversary IG post. I bought about $20 worth of treats and got to spin their prize wheel--and I actually won the Grand Prize: a limited-edition gold Nespresso & milk frother kit! I literally jumped for joy. Yet another reason to love this incredible bakery!

It was okay. Tried three items:…read more Matcha Lava Tart - The staff said this had the strongest matcha flavour among their matcha items. But there was no "lava" at all... just a layer of cream sitting on a thick tart base. You do get some matcha flavour, but definitely not that rich and flowing matcha sauce I saw in those online reels. Matcha Mont Blanc - Too sweet. The green noodle-shaped topping is actually made from a kind of bean paste - not much matcha taste, but had a strong bean flavour instead. And again, it was too sweet to my liking. Taro Tart - This one was good. Taro-flavoured cream on top, with taro paste underneath, then a layer of custard with mochi at the bottom. Had a rich taro flavour. Still a bit sweet, but not as overwhelming as the Mont Blanc. Overall it was not bad, although TBH I haven't really found great matcha desserts in Toronto so far.

My wife always judges a French Cafe by their Butter Croissant ($3.00) and she liked it! She also noticed all the  staff speak French sp it gives it even more legitimacy.  She also ordered a Flat White ($4.50) which was also good. I ordered a Plum Almond Tart ($7.25) because it was the prettiest. It was super delicious so it was definitely a good choice! Service was courteous and friendly. You place your order at the counter and bring it to your table. Someone will come around to clear the dishes when you are done It is a great place to have a nice casual time eating and socializing. They make all their food in-house in the basement. There are products for sale such as coffee beans, fruit syrup, maple syrup, smoked sauces, olive oil, scented soap, wine glassware, etc. I will definitely come back again to try other items. Hopped on my bike and a half hour later I was there. The friendly staff helped me by answering my question regarding eggs and which items did not have any in the recipes. This place was also super poppin' when I got there. It was earlish in the day around 10:30am and it seemed all the tables were pretty much taken. They are adding a dinner menu which is very exciting. Their pastries are phenomenal!!! Picked up a plum and pistachio tart, a chocolate mousse cake and an apple Danish for my mom. Plus a chocolate caramelized croissant. So much butter, and yet so good. Brought my container, which they happily used. The last time I visited this spot back in 2022, I vowed I would come back and take up space in that beautiful bay window seat. Yet I haven't followed through with that yet. One day. They also changed the name, since I was there last it was called Le Conciliabule Lab. Le Conciliabule means, "speak easy", as their website says. It was used back in the day to describe a place where people would come together and talk about everything and nothing. I can definitely say that happens here. What a beautiful concept, "everything and nothing". Now named Bisou, which means kiss. That's actually really simple and sweet. Since every pastry and any food item or beverage enjoyed here is a kiss for your tastebuds. Love it. Keep going team. You are amazing!
