My bagels from Bagelsaurus were so chewy on the outside that they were truly difficult to eat. My jaw was exhausted by the time I finished. I got a sandwich, and it was almost impossible to chomp through without the fillings squeezing out everywhere. I am all for a good chewy exterior, but this is so far over the line it's crazy. Bagelsaurus has the best bagels I've had in my life. There normally is a long line but it's definitely worth the wait. The T-Rex bagel sandwich is my go to. It has almond butter, banana, and honey. This place is pretty delicious. It's a deliciousness that you certainly pay a premium for, but that doesn't make it any less delicious. The bagel here is a bit more like a California bagel than a real New York bagel, but I have zero issues with that at all. I can't in good conscience give this place more than 3 stars. The bagels themselves are great. I really enjoyed my everything bagel with chive cream cheese, roasted tomatoes, cucumbers and avocado. The bagel had a delightful amount of chew and texture considering it wasn't even toasted. However, the service is SLOW and the bagels are expensive. $1.65 to add avocado and over $1 to add tomatoes to my bagel??? Really??? I ended up paying $20 for an egg sandwich, my bagel and a cold brew. I came in on a Tuesday at 7 am since it was packed every time I tried to go on the weekends. There wasn't a line, but it still took a good 10 minutes to get my order. I don't foresee the lines letting up on the weekends for a long time if this is how long it takes. I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing since the bagels are made with care, but it's really not worth it to me to pay $7 or $8 for a bagel that's going to take me over an hour to actually get on a weekend. Completely, completely worth the hype. The first time I stopped by was on a Saturday morning and there was a line right out the door. I couldn't understand it - they're just bagels, right?!?! I left, and figured I could come back at off-peak hours and avoid the insanity. I live just up the road, after all. Came back on a weekday and there was no line at all. Perfect! I gazed at the menu, and had quite a bit of trouble deciding what to try - the menu isn't all that huge, but every option sounds incredible. I ended up getting two sandwiches, one for here, and one for lunch at work the next day. Here's the lowdown: First thing I tried was a sea salt bagel, with scallion cream cheese, red onion, and avocado. YUM. I love that you can completely customize your sandwich, from the kind of bagel, to the cream cheese, to a wide variety of extras that you can get on top. The sea salt bagel was doughy with the perfect amount of salt. They really load on the cream cheese though - next time, I'll be sure to ask them to go light on it. But really, overall I was impressed. I also tried the T-Rex sandwich, which comes on your choice of bagel (I got a pretzel bagel), with almond butter, bananas, and bacon. Yes, bacon!!!!! Best sandwich ever, with a wondrous balance of salty and sweet. The sandwich was enormous, so one half made for a decent lunch. So incredibly good, but very filling! You'll never catch me here on the weekends, because as delicious as those bagels are, the lines are absurd. And there is very little seating inside. I grew up outside of New York and appreciate a good bagel when I find one; for years I've been trying to find good bagels in Boston. Kupel's and Bagels Rising (now gone anyway) were good options, but, being a Somerville resident, the will to put on pants was never strong enough to trek all the way out to Allston/Brookline (sorry Cutty's). So, you can imagine my excitement when I heard Bagelsaurus was opening a location in Porter Square. Yes! Bagel party all the time! TWICE I stood in line and TWICE I was denied any bagels because they kept selling out. In both instances, I had been waiting for the better part of an hour. My third attempt on a weekday morning was finally [sort of] successful: I grabbed a half dozen to go to enjoy later, which promptly went stale. Better freeze those suckers or just eat 'em while they're still fresh! Don't get me wrong, these bagels are good, really. But they're small, overpriced, and the service is so painstakingly slow that they're simply not worth my time. Those kids at Bagel World on the north shore are magnificent in retrospect. Let's be honest. This place's ridiculous popularity is due to one thing and one thing only. The Boston-area is absolutely horrible for bagels. Most of the bagels in the area are terrible chains. And the few that sell non-chain bagels are very mediocre. So yes, Bagelsaurus is the best in the area, but that's not saying much. In North Jersey, I can walk into any random bagel place and nineteen times out of twenty I'll get a better bagel that Bagelsaurus. And it won't cost $2.50 for a bagel without cream cheese. $2.50/bagel is beyond outrageous. So let me repeat: The bagels are not "amazing" as people say on here or as suggested by the lines. They're OK. And overpriced. Bostons's best bagels! Alliteration for the win! Seriously this place is legit. The major downside is that it is close to a 30 minute drive from south Boston. The parking is scarce so get here early. I parked in a tow away zone and after ordering, had the husband stay and wait for food while I was guarding our car. The drive to the food is worth it, just allow some wiggle room because roads are constantly closed due to construction. We ordered three bagels ($2.50 each): sea salt with beet hummus (+$1.50)- (yes, you read that right), olive bagel with honey rosemary spread, and everything bagel with a mustard butter. The olive bagel is my favorite and something you cannot order at any bagel shop. If you don't like a lot of spread, order the mustard butter. It's like a spicy Dijon and is spread lightly on the bagel. The beat hummus was a slight disappointment. Eat well's packaged beet hummus still reigns supreme. The product is good, I'll give them that, and the branding is adorable, but neither of these things justifies the inflated prices or absurd waiting lines. I'd definitely come back if I found myself in the area at off peak hours, but wouldn't necessarily seek out another Bagelsaurus concoction otherwise. In any case, if you're reading this, you're probably going to go regardless just to see what all the hype is about. Make it worth your while and try a couple different sandwiches. My recommendations would be the Eggspanola on Cheddar Garlic for a savory bite and the T-Rex on Cinnamon Raisin for something on the sweeter side. OKAY so.... I went to Bagelsaurus on 12/17 and it was pretty good! I got a sesame bagel with bacon, tomato, & scallion cream cheese. My companion got a sesame bagel with honey rosemary cream cheese and then we got a chicken salad sandwich to split. CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH WAS TO DIE FOR!!!! Oh man, if you can find a way to NOT wait in an outside line, this place is absolutely worth it. And, to be fair, since I've never waited in that line I don't actually know if it would be worth the wait - if you're a bagel lover, I imagine it would be. 10:30-11:30am on a weekday is probably your best bet, although the there might still be a small line & slim pickings on bagel variety. Sometimes they run out of bagels entirely by noon-1pm, depending on the day of the week. The bagels are amazing. Crispy on the outside, super chewy inside. But what makes this place really are the spreads. The mustard butter & honey rosemary cream cheese are both absolutely awesome. Breathtakingly great. Not sure why, but why question a good thing? I imagine you could make some version of them at home, but perhaps not as good or as easily. The egg sandwich is by far the breakfast sandwich I've ever had - likely because of the mustard butter. Also the egg is cooked perfectly, and the cheese - the perfect amount and sharpness. It was great on an everything bagel, but it was a hard decision between that and the pretzel. Another testament to their amazingness - I don't like olives, and the olive bagel was fantastic. I haven't yet had a chance to try the pretzel or cinnamon raisin but I can't wait. So...yeah. I saw them on Phantom Gourmet and was happy to see the sign while driving along Mass Ave a few weeks ago. Finally, I make it here, and sadly, these were the worst bagels I have ever tasted. No offense to the owner and creator of the recipes but the taste of these bagels are extremely disappointing. I'm no bagel expert, but I know what a good bagel tastes like and these just seemed so far from what I believe good bagels taste like. I purchased a half dozen because I wanted to share them with my husband, who loves raisin bagels. So, i got three raisin, two onion, and one everything. The raisin ones consisted of raisins that were way too tart, and my husband DID NOT like them. He also refused to try an onion, leaving me to finish the remaining five bagels. Note to self: Don't buy in bulk if you don't know what one tastes like. I was jumping the gun in thinking that we'd LOVE these. The onion one that I tried consisted of both onions and poppy seeds. There were way more poppy seeds than onions and barely any onion taste in it at all. Lastly, the bagels had an off taste to them, like a sour taste. I couldn't tell if it was sour dough or if the bagels had gone bad because they did not go with the Philadelphia cream cheese that I put on them. After reading a few of the other reviews, other Yelpers have noted the sour dough taste in the bagels. Sour dough does not go well with regular cream cheese because they are both sour. That's what is off about these bagels. There is no balance in the flavors, raisins are too tart, no onion flavor, and the sour dough doesn't pair well with plain cream cheese. Who thought of this? I don't normally complain about the price of food, especially for well made gourmet food, but these bagels seemed far from gourmet to me. The one positive thing about these bagels are they are very soft in the middle. However, if you want phenomenal tasting bagels, I say go to the Einstein Bros. kiosk on the Brandeis campus. I first had Einstein Bros. out in Denver. They made such an impression me that I returned to Boston looking for them and found them not too far from me in Waltham. read more

Not shockingly, they are totally crushing the bagel game on Mass Ave and I assume that the people who work at Bruegger's two blocks down are very very bummed about it. These folks make all their bagels fresh, and a lot of their ingredients (like the hot salmon, which is not that hot but still very salmon) are purchased from local vendors. The bagels are chewy and flavorful, and the staff are generous with the spread and toppings, bless their hearts. I like a toasty bagel, and the last few times they haven't gotten that message, but they're so busy that I'm happy enough to just get the right order. My fave sando is the aforementioned Hot Salmon. I placed my order at the window for an everything bagel toasted with plain cream cheese and a large coffee. With $1 tip it came to $8.49. After paying I was told it would be a 10 minute wait. Considering the bagel was kinda small and extremely chewy, the large coffee was 16 oz (pretty sure that's a medium at most places now), and the everything seasoning was only on one side of the bagel, I feel it was over priced. I'm not a bagel or coffee connoisseur, but for less money I could have gone to Panera (without a 10 minute wait) and purchased a better bagel (not jaw breaking chewy but crispy on the outside) and larger coffee (20 oz) for less $$. I will give Bagelsaurus another chance though. Next time calling ahead for a baker's dozen to try more flavors and toast up at home, maybe won't be as chewy? read more

Okay, so I've heard from many many people and read many many articles that said these are the best bagels in the Boston area and they're as good as New York/New Jersey bagels. If you're like me and you're from NJ, where even the crappiest bagel shop is ten times better than bagels in in Boston, they're not bad. I would rate them as about halfway between the awful bagels from the Einsteins Bagels on my campus and a decent bagel from home. The fillings made the bagel good--I got the classic jumbo with ham and it was tasty, and the mustard butter was a nice touch. I will say it was ridiculously expensive--a single bagel is like $2.50 I think??? The classic jumbo was like $8 and ham/bacon was an extra $2. Oof. The fact that I spent 30 minutes waiting for a breakfast sandwich on an okay bagel was ridiculous. If I went to any bagel place in Jersey and got a breakfast sandwich while it was that crowded, I'd be in and out in ten minutes MAX. Another serious issue--I got an everything bagel and it only had sesame seeds and poppyseeds on it. What on earth??? Even Einsteins knows that an everything bagel needs salt and onion and garlic. I hope it was just a crummy batch, but if not, this place should step up their game. I probably won't go back unless my friends want to go. However, I have awesome friends (well, maybe one) who lives nearby and picked up a bagel before meeting me for a work day coffee break! I've basically been raving about this place since I saw it pop up on Yelp, and I guess she got tired of me talking about it...haha. I tried the sea salt bagel with honey rosemary spread and it was good! Though for $4, pretty small and overrated. The bagel itself was just a regular chewy bagel with some sea salt sprinkled on top, and I think maybe it should have had more salt so I'd taste the saltiness in every bite. They are very generous with their delicious spread, however the bagel is not very big considering the price. Note: I noticed that previous reviews mentioned that this place doesn't take credit cards, but actually my friend reported that she did indeed pay with her Visa. When moving to Porter Square, I realized that while I'd have my pick of the litter as far as exceptional donuts were concerned, there would be a real lack of exceptional bagels. So when I learned that Bagelsaurus was opening up right by my apartment I did a serious happy dance. Now that I've sampled the goods, I can say that the happy dance was warranted: the bagels are super chewy with a good sourdough tang, and beautiful beautiful bubbly tops. Hooray! I went for the untoasted sesame (still warm as I went at 7:30 AM) with chive cream cheese, capers, roasted tomato, cucumber, and onion. I was glad I brought it home since I looked like a monster eating it, and the sounds I made were more appropriate in a private setting... Hands down the best bagel sandwich I've had in Boston so far. I've already been to some of the great spots too such as Twin Donuts, Refuge Cafe, and Pavement. The like is super long on the weekends and early mornings, but it's worth the wait. Price is a bit steep too, but again, worth it. Bagels are very fresh and unique (pretzel bagels and olive bagels) , ingredients are top quality and are paired in a way that provide incredible flavor in every bite. I recommend any of the sandwiches. They have cold brew too. If you're a coffee person, you know cold brew is significantly better than iced coffee. For about $13 you can have a very satisfying breakfast. Staff is all friendly and look like they enjoy working there, so coming here is an overall great experience. read more

I really want to like this shop (I was a kickstarter backer), but it's more like bagel-tsuris. Sure, the bagels are tasty. A bit too hard on the outside for my taste (and as a side note a bit too tough for my toddler to break through with his baby teeth), but still tasty. Pretzel bagels are unorthodox in the bagel canon, and a nice addition. One star off for price. It's simply too much. I come from Long Island, a land of amazing bagels, and even the best ones are less than this. A half star off for consistently running out of everything bagels. You gotta keep enough of the standards in house. Make the specialty bagels just that - special, and in smaller quantities. A half star off because it's a bit too.... Precious. Let bagels be bagels. Only hot salmon? No fresh tomatoes? Why? I get that the service is slow, but assume that's just growing pains. The kinks will hopefully get worked out so the 45+ minute wait will be a thing of the past. read more

Bagelsaurus is such a staple of my life I assumed I'd reviewed it before now! This is my partner's and my go-to place for breakfast after the gym, motivation to drag our butts to work on a Monday, or a very affordable 'treat yo'self' experience when we're feeling the need. Every bagel is firm outside, chewy inside, and perfectly flavored. The cream cheeses are flavored to go with a variety of bagels; the honey rosemary is my favorite. The Classic Jumbo sandwich is a great go-to (eggs always cooked perfectly, the cheese melty and sharp, mmm) but a regular bagel and schmear is all any bagel afficionado should need. The coffee is also great-- a lot of brewed coffee is too acidic for me, but this is both tasty and packs a big caffeine kick. I've never been to Bagelsaurus when there wasn't a line out the door, except for this Tuesday when my partner and I were literally the first ones outside at 7am. But as the ratings will attest, it's well worth the wait. read more

Thanks to bagelsaurus (BS), bagels have returned to my life. I have lived in NYC where bagels were as good as they could be (beyond making them myself). In Boston I was stuck with iggys since panera, brueggers, and finagle a bagel all make something that looks like a bagel but is a sweet bready sham. BS has all the elements a bagel should have...thin gently crispy outer surface and light chewy inner dough, not sweet and just the right amount of salt. Period. The size of the bagel is also perfect. No one should want more than that. What warrants five stars goes beyond the bagels. All of their ingredients are carefully curated and are clearly highest quality. The cheddar cheese, bacon, avocado and ham are sublime and put together are a marriage made in heaven. I have a pet peeve for people giving demerits for long lines. It's not as though they are an establishment that can give reservations so why punish them for being popular? A line indicates they are doing something right. Get over yourself. If you don't wish to wait in line ,go elsewhere and resist the urge to whine on yelp and give unfair reviews because you are inconvenienced by your own hand! Rant over. Finally, the staff. They are all attractive, sweet people who put lots of care into bringing you yummy goodness. Thanks BS!!
