A few years ago when I first discovered this place I noticed how popular the Jalapeño Cheese bagels were. I thought they looked weird and I was very reluctant to try one. I was happy with my standard order: an Everything Bagel. Then one day, I don't know what possessed me, I decided to find out what was up with those Jalapeño Cheese bagels. Holy hell those sons of bitches are good! It's astonishing how good really. Sure am sorry it took me so long to try them. And there are so many variations with jalapeno! Just to name the ones I remember: Jalapeno 1 Cheese, Jalapeno 4 Cheese, Everything Jalapeno 1 Cheese, Everything Jalapeno 4 Cheese Everything seasoning on top of a Jalapeno 4 Cheese. The taste....all the flavors with every bite, the consistency and texture of these bagels is immaculate. They have so many flavors to choose from my favorite is the cheese and onion. The shop is in walking distance to the new CMH hospital. When my mom was in the hospital, I was frequently visiting this store. There is a certain comfort found in food and I found that comfort in this bagel shop. So glad it's there for people. The people who worked there were so nice and friendly and everyone who came in seemed to be a regular and everyone knew everyone type of thing. It felt very homey. I have lived in Ventura county my whole life but it was my first time trying this place. I got the 4 cheese bagel with the works which includes cream cheese, salt, pepper, tomato, and onion. My friend got the same thing as well as a strawberry danish. The bagel was SOOOOOO good and my friend thought so also. The strawberry danish was okay but my friend really liked it. I'm torn about this place. I loved the everything cheese jalapeno bagel but is it really a bagel??? It's more of a flat bread. It's too thin to be a bagel. Bagel Rock is my favorite bagel place in the 805. They have a good selection of unique bagels. I love their gourmet bagels (they're bigger and have onion, mushroom, cheese baked on top). When they toast them, they get the most flavorful crispy edges! It's dynamite! I usually get an egg, cheese and meat bagel sandwich with a side of their chive schmear and I swear it's such comfort food for me. Their Milky Way latte is the perfect compliment to their bagels and other various sweet treats. Their cookies, pastries and muffins are great grabs, as well. Bagels with a slight outer crisp, soft but not too doughy, dense but not too dense. Well- balanced and oh so tasty. Savory slice of carb heaven! If you are heading on Main Street away from the Ventura Mall and the 101 freeway is behind you, Bagel Rock is on the right hand side of the street just a bit past the Telegraph/Thompson split. If you can't find street parking on Main, go around to the back and you might find a place there. REVIEW: There is a reason why I always follow where Yelp tells me to eat for a quick breakfast. This bagel shop is spectacular. I love to support local! The vibe inside is welcoming and roomy. The employees are always friendly in the genuine way which is so welcomed (to me) these days. The service was good, but this review is about the food. First of all, the bagels were terrible. They were flat and looked old, placed in a case that looks like it needed some windex. But nevertheless I tried the jalapeño bagel with cream cheese, tomato and chopped up turkey bacon. My boyfriend was scared to try the bagel so opted for a blueberry muffin(but also had his doubts there and only orders something because he was hungry). The bagel tasted sweet (weird for jalapeño) and tasted like bread more than a bagel. It wasn't toasted properly and the turkey bacon was like undercooked ham. I'm not really sure why folks are staying these are the best bagels, maybe they don't have experience eating a really bagel. I wasn't expecting a NY bagel, but I was expecting something better than a prepackaged bagel. The muffin was also terrible, super dry and hard, hardly any blueberry's, just a couple on the top that were hard and nasty. It tasted like it had been on the shelf for a week. Also really expensive. The owner addressed me immediately in a rude fashion, raised his voice, refused me and my service dog entrance asserting he "knows the laws "and that those laws allow him to decline service to anybody. I calmly tried to inform him he was in violation of federal law. He became belligerent and aggressive. I strongly discourage you from patronizing this business.
