I mistakenly ended up here looking for Bagel Gormet Ole on Thayer. It was a mistake coming here. First a witnessed the man behind the counter 3/10/23 drop a bagel on the floor in front of me. Pick it up with his bare hands and throws it in the trash. Never washes his hands and went trait to finishing making someone's food. Second, the quality of the bagels were not there...my bagel was beyond hard (un toasted). I ordered a 1/2 dozen bagels so I could have some the next day. Less than 24 hrs later they were twice as hard. I paid $15+ for a half dozen bagels, one with cream cheese, and a juice. What a ripoff. Stay away from this place. read more

Really nice assortment of bagels. Even later in the day, a lot of bagels were available. Great selection of cream cheeses as well including some interesting flavors like sun dried tomato and jalapeño. Love the option to add avocado slices to your bagel for an extra $1.02. Staff friendly. I was hosting an early morning work meeting on a Sunday morning (ugh, the worst) and needed to provide breakfast for my team. Instead of taking the easy way out and buying donuts and coffee for everyone, I thought it might be a nice treat to get everyone breakfast sandwiches but was having a difficult time finding a local place that was 1) open that early on a Sunday and 2) could have hot food prepared and ready early in the morning. A co-worker suggested this place and offered to pick everything up on his way in, so I called ahead and asked if they could accommodate preparing breakfast sandwiches for 20 people to be picked up promptly at 8:30 am and was told "absolutely" by the person on the other end of the phone. (Yay!!) Not only was the group thrilled by the lure of a hot breakfast and coffee - within minutes I had everyone's order and special requests. I went down to the cafe and provided the order to the person I had spoken with over the phone and to pay for everything ahead of time. Much to my delight, they had everything prepared on time, plus every single order was 100% correct and labeled for each individual team member. Bagel Gourmet is probably the number one place for lunch between my coworkers and I. The food is consistently good. It's literally a five minute walk from our building which is a huge plus. It's pretty clean inside. The service is good but not exactly great. They seem to work fast but food doesn't come out very fast. I wonder what they are doing wrong. It's not always clear as to where you should stand when ordering and waiting for your food...but that's not very important. My biggest complaint is that the prices online are different from the actual prices at the café. I asked for an up-to-date take-out menu and the gentleman's response was that they don't have any and can't do anything about it because the person who created the menu doesn't work there anymore. Well, alrighty then. Just FYI, plan to pay more than what you calculate! Four stars in this case is pretty generous. I hope they make some improvements in the near future. Perhaps bring back delivery to nearby offices? That would be awesome especially for big orders! read more

I've only been here a few times but each time I visit, I really enjoy the food. They display all the bagels in wire baskets behind the counter so while you are waiting in line, you can't help but relish at the prospect of picking one that suit's your desire. In addition to delicious breakfast sandwiches and assorted bagels and cream cheese, Bagel Gourment offers an awesome assortment of lunch sandwiches that you won't find in most bagel shops. They have something for everyone - roast beef, pastrami, corned beef, turkey, tuna, veggie, and even a "create your own" option that can be put on a bagel, wrap, croissant or bread. Today I ordered the roast beef over a wheat bread. Every bite was yummy and the lunch sandwiches were STACKED with delicious layers of meat, veggies, and cheese. This is also one of the few shops that stocks spinach bagels (my all time favorite). Not to mention their Mexican specialties are equally delicious. read more

Bagel Gourmet has the best bagels in the area. Bagel Gourmet Cafe on Richmond has a large seating area with a bar by the window. It's always bright and clean. There are a lot of options for bagels and cream cheese. They also have salads, burritos, wraps, pizzas, etc. The guys at the counter are really friendly and work quickly. It can be a bit pricey for food other than bagels. Great lunch spot. read more

A lot of their Mexican food is meat heavy and they will not substitute vegetables for the meat--you have to pay extra for the vegetables. Since moving to the area, I have been trying to find a place that offers some good bagels with some type of variety. I want choices of bagel types and cream cheese flavors, well I found the place! Was happy to find that parking was easy, short walk over to the corner building. They have so many bagel choices and about 7 different types of cream cheese flavors. I opted for the Sunflower seed bagel and the guy working was super nice, offered me so many different options. Got the spicy chipotle cream cheese, how cool!! The only thing is there was a sign $5 minimum purchase on credit cards. well I rarely have cash in this day in age so I needed to buy something else. There are a ton of lunch choices so I got the Greek salad to go. The employee asked me if I wanted tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, or grilled chicken for an additional cost to put on top. I wasn't interested but thought it was great that he offered it, I would have never even thought of it. The bagel was really good and the salad was super fresh. Overall, great stop when I need a good bagel fix and I would definately grab another salad in the future. I would like to try their burritos too so if you head there for lunch you shouldn't be disappointed by the numerous options. I spent the majority of my life the last two years in the building above Bagel Gourmet, or BG as my friends fondly call it. In fact, I was there before BG first opened. Oh man, I am so legit. In any case, because of my close proximity to BG, I eat there multiple times a week for breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner, and linner. I have perfected the art of calling ahead downstairs to place my order, leaving a meeting half way through to use the bathroom, and return holding a paper bag with a large cylindrical object wrapped in foil. Fortunately for me, I am completely non-descript - Asian, near-sighted, and shy especially around females, so no one has ever noticed. I then proceed to unwrap the foil and eat my chicken burrito. To be fair, it's not a bad burrito. However, and this is a big however, there are majorly serious shortcomings that I will proceed to enumerate in this review. Firstly, I always end up getting red sauce, salsa roja in BG-speak. I DON'T LIKE RED SAUCE! I want green sauce, aka salsa greene. WHY DON'T YOU EVER ASK ME WHAT SAUCE I WANT INSTEAD OF ASSUMING I WANT RED SAUCE? RED SAUCE IS TOO SPICY FOR ME! I'm shy and don't want to have to ask for what I want. Secondly, the burrito is too soggy. I invariably drip burrito juice onto my lap about two-thirds of the way through. DEAR BG EMPLOYEES, PLEASE GO TO CHIPOTLE TO APPRENTICE THEIR WAY OF WRAPPING BURRITOS. THEIR BURRITOS DO NOT LEAK. The whole concept of fast food is negated when I need a plate to capture your burrito leakage. (What the heck is your burrito juice made up of anyway? These stains are unbelievable!) Oh, and speaking of bathrooms, my favorite part about BG is the bathroom. The male bathroom has both a urinal and a toilet in the same room. Yay! But actually, that's not my favorite part. My favorite part is that BG has the only bathroom in the entire building with paper towels. Why is that? The owners of the building decided to be "green" by eschewing paper products and instead installing louds machines that blow lukewarm air onto your hands. I ordered an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese to go. When I got home, I discovered that there was barely any cream cheese on it. This is such an odd place: Mexican and Bagels. The fact it lives in the Brown Med school makes it odder still. Not much point in me reviewing it since I'm sure all the students have much more experience with it than I do, and the price/convenience tradeoff is fair. You know what I hate in a dining establishment? Inconsistency. And inconsistency is the name of the game at bagel gourmet. One day I order nachos: they're amazing. A few days later: they suck. One day I order veggie tacos: they're amazing - light, loaded with fresh tomatoes and cilantro. Today I order them: I get pinto beans and rice overfilling a single corn tortilla with little to no tomatoes, cilantro, or flavor. Attention: a single corn tortilla will not hold a half pound of beans. The inconsistency comes, of course, from whomever is cooking. The guy who runs the counter during the day and cooks at night (and produces the amazing taco/nacho creations) needs to pow wow with the fill in guys and let them know what's up. I am usually a fan of Bagel Gourmet (at their Fox Point location) for their bagels. The egg or breakfast sandwiches are full to the brim with toppings and are always so fresh and hot. You can also ask for substitutions of toppings or meat. They even make Whole Wheat Everything bagels! However, on a recent trip, I decided to give this particular location a try. I ordered 2 specialty wraps: a marinated, grilled chicken wrap (with roasted red peppers, tomato, and greens) and a Chef's Salad wrap (cheddar, swiss, turkey, ham, eggs, spring greens). Both were terribly soggy after about 10 minutes as I took these to go. My Chef's Salad wrap completely fell apart when I opened it, so there was no attention given to wrapping it properly to prevent a mess. I also found the home-made Chef's Salad dressing to be quite salty. My husband could not finish his grilled chicken wrap because it was also falling apart and the chicken was terribly dry and charred. He complained of a horrible aftertaste as if the grills used at this Bagel Gourmet were not cleaned properly. To add insult to injury, the Chef's Salad wrap amounted to almost $9, while the chicken wrap was over $9. These prices for deli wraps are plain outrageous, and the wraps were not even good or properly made. They're not very large either. I'd recommend another eatery like Saki's to purchase your delicious, jumbo wraps. Meter parking during the weekday may be tough here as well, so weekends are your best bet. Just stick to the bagels with this place, or visit the sister location near Fox Point. read more

For my company, I have been in charge of organizing over 10 luncheon events at Bagel Gourmet,because we have a big meeting at Brown Medical School. I have worked with the manager for each of these luncheons to go over the menu. He has never been anything but accommodating and helpful, and made it so easy to work with him. The only problem was the language barrier, which for the most part was not a problem (Except for when deciphering between what vegan and vegetarian was. At the first meeting, the vegan burrito had ground beef in it!). When selecting items for our menu, he told me what was most popular, and what was not in terms of luncheons. For our luncheons, we would get drinks, house salads, chips, burritos, fallefuls and deli meat sandwiches for about 30 people, each with about 3 or 4 different types. Every one always raved about how delicious the food was (especially the burritos and fallefuls), and how much they looked forward to these luncheons. I would normally get a bagel and it was so good. All of the food was amazing, and specifically the presentation of the food (little garnishes and minor decorative details that really made it quite authentic). I would never expect for "Bagel gourmet" to have such exquisite attention to detail, nor good mexican food! There is always a line out the door because so many people are there. I will definitely go back for lunch breaks after the luncheons end. read more

My go-to spot for burritos and bagels. They have really good chicken burritos with homemade salsa. I get the small and it's HUGE! It's filled with grilled chicken, beans, pico de gallo, lettuce, and cheese and it is worth every penny of the $7.06 it costs. I always ask for extra salsa as well. Their bagels are true NYC-style kettle-boiled with no preservatives. They're chewy and really good. They get a fresh delivery from their Brook St. location (where all the bagels are made) every morning at 6:40 AM. Try it with cream cheese, or get it as a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese. You can phone ahead and they'll have your order ready when you arrive. read more

First, they roared my bagel (I dislike toasted bagels), it was so hard that I cut the rough of my mouth on it! Then, I specifically asked for no tomatoes and that I wanted onions. They put tomatoes on and forgot onions! (he even confirmed with me what I wanted and they still messed it up). I'm a fan of Bagel Gourmet on Brook Street, and this location is basically a newer, cleaner, less crowded version of that, which makes me happy, especially on a Saturday morning when I wake up slightly hungover and desperately need a coffee and a bagel to revive me. I usually stick to a pretty basic bagel (blueberry, everything) with peanut butter or chive cream cheese (respectively). They really go overboard with the toppings, even when I request a 'light' amount of spread, so I end up wiping about half of whatever I order off, which is my biggest complaint since it seems wasteful. However, I can really appreciate the little things, like the time they take to melt the sugar for the iced coffees and wrap leftovers to go if you need that. I sincerely hope they get a ton of business during the week, because whenever I've been here on the weekend, there's no one else around (I am an early riser, though). My other half is a fan of the lox cream cheese spread, egg sandwiches, and even the breakfast burrito from time to time. They prep all of the eggs and bagel sandwiches to order, which makes them hot, fresh, and worth waiting for. Street parking is your best bet. Meters are free on Sundays. read more

Everything on the menu from this place is fresh and good. Bagels are made fresh every morning and the inventory is constantly being refreshed. There's a location on Thayer Street, and instead of going to Bajas for some Mexican food, I always come here instead. Unlike bajas, who use canned beans, canned rice, and everything else, this location cooks up rice, beans, and always has fresh guacamole haha! One time I was in line at bajas and a guy just poured some new sour cream on top of older sour cream that was sort of yellow. This place is always rotating and cleaning their trays. Prices are fair for what you order. Customer service is always friendly and pleasant. Although, they can be a little rushed because they're always busy but they're friendly. read more

After reading all the positive reviews, I was hopeful that the food was going to be good. Sadly, I was sorely disappointed. Both the focaccia and corned beef tasted like they came straight from... a low grade supermarket deli. The focaccia barely had any herbs or seasoning and had a spongy, dull, boring crumb. The sandwich meat was the quality of compressed, mass produced, commercially produced, pre-sliced, vacuum packaged deli meat. No thank you... The lettuce and tomato were fresh, the fries were good, and the decor is slick and clean looking. But for $8, I did expect a lot better sandwich than that...
