This is the bagel place where everyone in Commack goes to on a Saturday/Sunday morning. The line is often long but moves quickly. The staff is friendly and funny. If you go during rush hour, it might be tough to get a table. The bagels and cream cheeses are very good, my particular favorite being the lox spread. Fall from grace...I have been frequenting the Chalet for 35 years and today was the last time. After waiting 25 minutes just to place my order, and watching grub hub orders fly out the door, I was disappointed with my meal. I have always loved their walnut chicken salad, Today it was terrible. Made with dark meat and hardly any walnuts or craisins as promised. Had it on a multigrain bagel that was hard. All u asked for was 1 egg scrambled, with cheese and extra bacon.. i was charged a small fortune for this becausr they make sure to get their money, not only is there no extra bacon but there is none. Bagel Chalet is kind of the bagel rock star of the local community. Expect a line no matter what time you get in, but their service never suffers for it which is commendable. Prices are reasonable and there is lots of seating, entire store is kept clean so kudos for that. One negative thing is that they sometimes have tofu cream cheese and sometimes not, and when they do it's just the plain one. I would think a busy shop like this might offer more to vegans / lactose intolerant / dietary or religious preferences influencing diet but nah. Went here for breakfast a couple times while visiting family on Long Island. Went on a weekday around 9am and it wasn't too busy thankfully. They have a large selection of breakfast items and bagels/spreads. We got some bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches one morning and the other we got a couple different bagels with cream cheese and lox. Everything was fantastic and the service was quick, efficient and Friendly. I also liked their iced coffees. Would definitely recommend you check it out if you're in the area. read more

I've ordered from here several times for lunch at work and only had a problem once with my salad but it was a big deal. My bagels have always come toasted with butter as requested. Today they just gave me a bagel. Not toasted and no butter. Literally just a bagel. When I called about this I spoke to nick the manager and he said he would either give me a bagel the next time I come or something of equal value but would not be able to deliver me a bagel. I work a full time job. I am not able to just go to this place to pick up a bagel for their mistake. This is horrible customer service and what is next weeks bagel going to do for my stomach now?? I'm giving 5 stars solely because the salads are so good! I haven't really gotten much else aside from bagels and bagel chips. It's reasonable priced and pretty fast service considering it's always busy and the staff is making custom chopped salads. There are so many options, you can get exactly what you want. Bagel Chalet has casual seating but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable sitting at this point because of COVID. It doesn't seem like there's much ventilation and everyone eating has their masks off. There doesn't seem to be many precautions put in place to help stop the spread. For example, I didn't see any tables closed to separate patrons, there didn't seem to be a limit for how many people could be inside, and no one stands 6 feet apart. I have been a Bagel Chalet, COMMACK NY customer for over 30 years (both owners.) I support local business and have enjoyed Bagel Chalet's service and food for a very long time. But I need to share what happened to me last week so you can make safe choices for yourself during and after this pandemic. I am a 66-year-old woman and was on the line social distancing last week and wearing my mask. The area can be tight while waiting in line, but everyone ahead of me was keeping their distance. As I was waiting, a group of young people got in line behind me. One of the couples (clearly under the influence of a substance) were being very inappropriate and kept bumping into me. I moved ahead a little, and they moved as well; I realized what was happening, so I asked if they could keep their distance and showed them the markers on the floor to indicate where everyone should be standing. In the loudest tone, the guy looked at me, then called me a vulgar word several times, and then took off his mask and coughed directly on me. The store went silent. All of the counter clerks stopped and watched, including the owner Nick. I stood up for myself and told him to quit it and back up. He proceeded to repeat the vulgar words without a mask. A male customer stepped in and told him to stop that language and be respectful while another male customer went up to Nick to tell him what was going on, but Nick watched the whole scene and did absolutely nothing. He never told the young man to put his mask back on; he didn't tell him to calm down or make him leave the premises. He just stood behind the front counter in full view and did nothing to protect his customers. After I placed my order, I walked to the counter to pay, Nick just looked at me and never said a word...no sorry, no I will speak to this fool once he sits down; he did not even ask if I was okay after being verbally assaulted at his establishment while he watched. So after 30 years of frequenting this establishment, the Bagel Chalet and I will part ways...Nick and his staff should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting a customer that has walked through those doors multiple times a week for three decades. First, let me say the rating is about service not food. Bagel Chalet is our go to bagel store for take out, brunch, and Jewish Holidays. So I pre paid on Mother's Day and for curbside pickup. I called numerous times, but the line was either busy or not answered. Forced to enter the store, I was APPALLED by the total disregard for New York State Social Distancing Requirements. The store was packed inside and it was business as usual. It is very disappointing that a local merchant would have such disregard for their customers. There could have been a plan in place, since they told me they were anticipating a very busy morning. The least they could have done is have customers wait outside. Why did I never go here before?! Everything was so good! I tried the Cuban Cubano sandwich and my husband, in the mood for brunch, ordered a bacon egg & cheese in a sesame bagel. We both ordered iced lattes. The Cubano was delicious, on a perfectly toasted panini. His bagel was incredibly soft and fresh, SO good! The eggs and bacon & everything were of good quality, very good! We recommend the caramel latte! I tried Hazelnut and it was OK, but it depends what kind of hazelnut flavoring you're used to, you might enjoy it more than I did. The coffee quality was great though. Service was excellent, everyone was so friendly and helpful! It was very busy there, and it was obvious why. Oh and btw we took home some lentil soup, definitely recommend it. Bagels are really good, but they sell low-carb bagels which, in my experience as a seasoned NY bagel savant, is heretical!! The check-in line is also horribly disorganized. There is no continuity between ordering your meal, getting your coffee, and checking out. It is all discombobulated and confusing, and items are sure to be missed, especially on busy days. That said, there is a lot of seating, so it's good if you want to bagel and dine with friends and family. And there are lots of options, including plenty of types of paninis, and more than just deli coffee.
