I'm actually gonna save you on my food critique because it's always delicious. But why is that I find myself keep coming back for over 20yrs? It's the atmosphere or what they call in the retail business "The Experience". It's impossible to feel lonely here as the people keep pouring in. Owner Nick might as well just install a revolving door. Rarely won't there be a line, but I do admit they got it down to a science and Disney could take a few lessons from them as the line always moves quick. I use Bagel Chalet for multiple reasons. It's a great meeting place to discuss business and/or catch up with old friends. I understand Nick's wife is the interior decorator here. Agreed a a bit ornate or even gaudy but ironically it adds to the character and charm. The make-your-own salads are really good, you fill out a form while on line of what you want to save time and avoid confusion or incorrect orders, and they will bring it to you if you're seating. $11 for a large, it was quite filling. Food was edible. Quite expensive for just a flat bread and a few slices of deli meat. I got the commack supreme - containing slices of turkey, cappicola, and two cheeses. It wasn't very supreme. It was overly cheesy and somehow the texture of the two cheeses clashed with each other. Words cannot express how disappointed my fiancé and I are with Bagel Chalet. Not only did they forget items in the delivery, but our Chalet Chicken Club had the most burnt bacon we have ever seen. If you can excuse the inefficiency of ordering and paying, you'll love everything about Bagel Chalet. Let's talk bagels.... some of the best I ever had, and that's a bold statement for Long Island. Their homemade cream cheese is to die for (my personal favorite is the vegetable cc which includes scallions so it's a home run for everybody). Don't overlook their salads either, especially the cucumber salad which is crazy good. So good that I visited 2 days in a row (I'm not from the area) for it. I went there today got a bagel with butter, they had a line which moved quickly so that was very promising I was excited about how many locals went there and recognized by the shop owner, however my bagel was handed to the cashier and placed in the bag handed to me as I drove out and started to eat it it was black not toasted but burnt from the inside. I almost wanted to drive back and give it to them. While asking for lightly buttered, it was given a bagel dripping grease. Being new to the area I've heard about this place since we moved in. I'm not sure the hype? The line was extremely long which had my hopes up, I ordered a selection of bagels and kids didn't want to finish them. The Greek salad I got was good but nothing I'm craving to go back. The bagels went bad cause kids and my husband and I didn't like. He also tried the chicken salad was good but again not spectacular as I've heard. Moved on from here and was disappointed. This was my first stop after arriving in New York. I got an onion bagel with lox cream cheese and an iced coffee. The bagel was very tasty and had the perfect amount of onion. But the lox cream cheese was absolutely exceptional. They are definitely not skimpy on the cream cheese either - see my photo! I also enjoyed my iced coffee very much. I'm not typically someone that writes reviews but when it's something positive why not spread the word. I have only ordered through Grub Hub so I can't speak to in house service. Let it be known that the food is always delicious. The Mesa and Smokehouse paninis are my favorite. It may be a silly detail but I love how neatly and impeccably wrapped the paninis are every time which as a personal peeve messy food drives me up a wall so I greatly appreciate this. By far the best bagels I have EVER had! I am a carb junkie, and I would eat everything bagels with cream cheese for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if I could- they really are my meal of choice, especially from Bagel Chalet. I grew up in Commack, so I constantly find myself holding all bagels to the "Bagel Chalet" standard. Few have ever met the bar. I have taken these bagels to friends who live in Manhattan, even brought them as my carry on to a friend in Texas (i kid you not), because I really feel they are just that good. You may notice a huge line, but I have noticed that Bagel Chalet also comes equipped with a huge staff that is great at moving people along so the wait is never all that bad. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes to get my food even if the line is all the way at the door. Salads are amazing, and made to order, if you want to opt for a healthier choice. They also have some great sandwiches and Panini's that put Panera and Cosi to shame, as well as some baked goods that could put your Grandma's infamous pound cake to shame (the Oreo pie is to die for and only $9.99). It's like a one stop shop when you're on your way to a party. You grab breakfast and your polite "look i'm not showing up empty handed" bakery item. The only bad thing I would say about this place is that it can get crowded, especially during lunch. So while there is ample seating, you may be next to a ton of soccer moms or high school students on a lunch break... FYI- they carry sugar free and low-carb bagels for anyone with dietary restrictions, as well as the most amazing whole wheat and regular flagels on the planet (that cost the SAME AMOUNT as a regular bagel). read more

Love bagels and this place has some of the best. I recently went on a low carb diet but after a few weeks had a craving for a bagel from there that wouldn't go away so I gave in. They do have a low carb option but when I asked what makes it low carb I was told whole wheat flour and a smaller size. Not really sure if that constitutes as low carb but still love this place. I thought their salad portion was huge (picture included) but I also needed a separate plate because there is no way you could eat out of the dish that it's provided in. In perhaps the most quintessential of oxymorons, I've made an annual Christmas morning stop to the Bagel Chalet to get a nice Jewish feast for my family's Christmas Day breakfast. My mother came to visit me recently and was nice enough to bring me some bagels from here. This review is strictly about the bagels. The bagels were nothing to rave about.. Their coffee is great, and their other sandwich items were hugee. I'm sucha fan! Been coming to this bagel shop for years, and it's my go to every week. The mornings, 7-9am, are as you expect, crazy. The line reaches the deli counter with people bunched up a little but the staff keeps it moving at a decent pace pushing orders out. Their sandwiches are something I crave now and then, like the cougar, but as you expect I always go for their bagels that are made fresh everyday!! I love their variety of special cream cheese, specially their jalapeno and the scallion cream cheese. If you're their in the afternoon, about an hour or so before close they have bags of cheap bagels. Worth it if you have a sudden craving for tons of carbs. read more
