The bagels are good, and on weekend occasionally make the trip in to pick one up. This establishment suffers from something many NYC places have: an unknown organization system. Yes, there does appear to be a "flow" to where you should order... but how much you should order from that guy? Do I order my coffee at the register? If I just want a drink, do I have to wait in the line, or can I just go to the register? I'm sure to anyone who's lived here forever these might sound like crazy questions. I had forgotten about Bagel Boy until just this morning when I went to see a Doctor located right next door. Upon coming out of the Doctor's office, I saw Bagel Boy and thought "YES YES YES. An everything bagel will melt my sorrows away right now" and I made a beeline for the door. They changed the layout a bit since the last time I came in, and I like it. They are like a well-oiled machine. Great service. I ordered an everything bagel with egg whites, turkey bacon, swiss cheese and tomato and it was ready in under 3 minutes. As for the bagel itself, all I can say is that I've lived in NYC for most of my life, and I have had many a good bagel, but nothing, I mean NOTHING, compares to Bagel Boy on 3rd. NOTHING. Understand? Never ordering from here again. I ordered a toasted BLT with cheese (I paid EXTRA for the cheese), my order took over an hour to get to me (I am 5 minutes away from them). When my order got here it was not toasted, it was actually cold and there was no cheese. I called and told them my order was not correct. The guy took my order again and said they would send out a new one. Once my order got here, it was a little warm not toasted and there was still no cheese. I don't care what anyone says, Brooklyn bagels are the best. This is my go to bagel shop since forever. If you ever come around during the weekend, you'll see a bunch of cars double parked outside waiting to pick up some bagels and coffee. As much as I love them, they do have their off days and there may be less cream cheese or whatever, but the bagel is always good. 'Bagel Boy' has some pretty good selection and quality. Well, of course everything in it is typical Boar's Head; but I mean the salads and entrees and prepared spreads are decent and creamy and the bagels themselves, are okay. Its a chain, they generally keep up their chain standard. This location is no exception. Its also a clean, well-lit store in a great location for a late-nite feeding frenzy. The one weak aspect to their bagels is that they're not 'crusty'. I like a bagel crusty outside, soft inside. These bagels are same-texture-throughout: soft and chewy. My real complaint is the prices. I bought 1 lb of roast beef and 1 lb of Pepper jack cheese, and maybe a small container of cole slaw? And a 20 oz. Coke? The price was $20! Outrageous. Love Bagel Boy...a coworker of mine brought some in one day and just from looking at them I knew they were Brooklyn bagels. I was so excited since I'm a Brooklynite living in NJ and I haven't had a decent bagel in years since moving there. I basically stopped eating them since they're subpar. I have since been going to the Bagel Boy location in Bay Ridge. I know about the location in NJ but for some reason they don't taste as good as the Brooklyn location. Let me start off by saying do not be fooled by other reviews. I had been a faithful costumer of bagel boy for three years. I would go to bagel boy almost daily for either breakfast lunch or sometimes both. I have even got free wraps and sandwiches because of how many I bought on my rewards card. The place has completely gone downhill. Apparently they hire anyone to work there nowadays. The other day I waited a HALF HOUR for a quarter pound of turkey and a half pound of swiss. Now I'm not saying I walked in and waited for my order.. The new deli man literally took my order and then took a half hour to cut my cold cuts.. No exaggerating I had to check on my meter to avoid a ticket.. Whatever.. The iced cappuccino. I used to come to bagel boy daily with my girlfriend and get iced cappuccinos because of how good they were. I went in recently with my brother (who also gets them) and we both agreed something tasted funky about them.. Whatever.. Then I go in last week it was disgusting to the point where I couldnt even finish half.. Don't be fooled by this place it has had its better days. I recently moved to Bay Ridge and this awesome spot is right downstairs from my apartment. The minute I saw it, I became excited at the prospect of being able to get my coffee right before I get onto the train to head into work.... I have not yet found anything to fault the lovely people who run this operation. The variety of bagels this place offers is mind-blowing, all of which that I have tried so far are near-perfection. The service here is fantastic. The people here have always been friendly, inviting and accommodating to me, as each time I have gone I have tried something else...they have the patience to actually let me ask questions, even when they're extremely slam med, which it has been every time I have been so far. The only small thing I would have to say is that the breakfast sandwich, which I tried this morning, was lukewarm...but that is something that can easily be fixed if I was to ask. I bought an egg salad bagel here yesterday. I asked for the bagel to be scooped and toasted which they forgot to do. That's ok however the everything bagel with egg salad and a small amount of turkey cost 8.25. I also asked for some onion which I didn't receive. The workers here were talking amongst themselves and not very welcoming. The egg salad did taste nice so that's why I am giving 2 stars but it was way over priced and with so many other bagel spots in the neighborhood I won't be rushing back here. I walked in and was concerned but all I had been thinking about my entire time in New York was how I wanted to try the Brooklyn bagel that I had been hearing about for so long (I have an avid Brooklyn native friend who raves nonstop about Brooklyn--honestly though, what he says is generally true). It's good, bagels are great, everything bagel was on the salty side. The girl at the register charged me wrong but I didn't realize until I got home and it was too late. I'm a bit annoyed about that but I can't say the bagel was bad. It gets very crowded- I wish they made it into a line with signs- people seem to all gather by the cash register and it feels congested. They should also consider getting paper bags with handles because I made a large order one morning and I had to figure out how to maneuver 3 paper bags with no handles- I don't have enough hands for that. I've been going to Bagel Boy for a few years now. The bagels and cream cheese are great and on the few occasions when I've had a cold cut sandwich for lunch, it has been one of the best around. I love the very thinly shredded lettuce! The thing I can't get over is their coffee! I am a self-professed coffee snob, having taught myself how to make a great cup a few years ago, and this is some of the best coffee I've tasted outside of a real coffee shop. I don't know what they do to it to make it so good, but I'd about 80% of the time it is just amazing! The other 20% it's decent enough. The Bagel Boys work hard to give customers great bagels and coffee, but Unfortunately, I paid almost $8 for a salad that had a rusty NAIL on the bottom and inside the lettuce, it wasn't clean. I wasn't feeling well later on that day afterwards. I felt like I ate rusty food, then I saw a NAIL in my salad. I've lived nearby for 10 years and have loved coming in regularly. The staff is great. During COVID, the place is packed and staff doesn't control how packed it is. Customers often don't wear masks and become verbally aggressive when asked. The line is tight and customers become verbally aggressive when asked to space out. I don't know who the Bagel Boy is but I'm guessing he lives somewhere in Brooklyn or New Jersey. There are three locations. This one happens to be in Bay Ridge. Small chain bagel places seem to be becoming the norm and I have no problem with that as long as they are good and consistent. It's working for Brooklyn Bagel Co. and La Bagel Delight, so why not Bagel Boy? The bagels here are very good and the selection of cream cheeses are an added bonus. I had an everything bagel with jalapeno cream cheese and it was pretty delicious. The bagel was fresh and fluffy which is what I come to expect from an above average bagel place. Seating and a bathroom would have been nice, but can't have everything I guess. Yeah. It's one of those bagel places. If I'm ever in this part of Brooklyn again, I can see myself making another quick pit stop here one morning. Don't let the iconic Bagel Boy character deter you. Bagel Boy has the best Bagels in Brooklyn. Terrace Bagels is a close second, Dyker Park Bagels 3rd and La Bagel Delight 4th. Midwood Deli & Cropsey Bagels used to be up there too but have fallen on hard times. There's also a great runner up called Brooklyn Bagels (5th & 87th) which deserves an honorable mention. Back to the topic, these bagels are perfectly dense and chewy but still light and crispy. A bit small but well-made. If they were 24/7 like Dyker I'd camp out here semi-permanently, as Bagel Boy has better bagels and faster service. it's worth a trip out if you're picking up weight; parking in Bay Ridge is bad on weekends but it's still a breeze compared to Park Slope anytime. read more
