I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese, and it was perfectly done. The toasted bagel was crispy on the outside and slightly chewy on the inside. The bacon was fresh, and it was not over seasoned when I asked for pepper. They did not charge me to toast the bagel, or at least they didn't tell me they were! The staff was very nice but the shop is kind of small, so I imagine it can get very crowded. It seems like there are a lot of people to staff it, and the person that helped me was wonderful and kind. Bagel Bazaar has been a neighborhood staple since the 80s and I hope they stay forever. This is one of the few places that still hand roll bagels on premises every day, and damn good bagels they are. Yes, the service area is tiny, but that's because you need room to mix the dough, hand roll the bagels, boil them, put the various toppings (onion, garlic, sesame seed, salt, poppy seed or everything) and bake them, not to mention make the delicious breakfast sandwiches they turn out. I throughly enjoy the onion bagel with butter from Bagel Bazaar and it's much better than most other bagel places around the area. They aren't overly doughy and when it's toasted, it's near perfection. The bagel has great flavor and the ratio of onion is just right. I also appreciate that the butter is a perfect amount and is soaked into the bagel nicely, rather than dripping on the wax paper that happens way too often at other places. Parking is a little difficult since it's right under the train on Bay Parkway, but since I go early enough in the morning in my way to school, I easily pull up quickly to run in and out. Definition of brooklyn bagels over here. Freshly made bagels in the back with long lines in the morning and peak bagel munching hours. They have an assortment of all kinds of cream cheeses and other goodies that can go on top of your bagel. My go to is always the scallion cream cheese and the lox whenever I want to indulge. They also have popular breakfast items like croissants and ham/egg/cheese on rolls. A neighborhood favorite presumably since good service depends on whether you're a familiar face or not. The filling options, cream cheeses, meats, eggs, etc, are good, not extraordinary, but everything just tastes better in their bagels and rolls. Service is the toughest thing to navigate. Being as busy as they are, there is almost always a line, with not much space to wait. With most of the prep work happening in the kitchen area (partially open to the counter area), the counter sometimes seems unmanned, as long as a few minutes, which can seem an eternity if you're wondering if someone is even going to take an order. When busy, phone orders aren't taken. The staff are efficient and courteous, but are going to keep things moving along. Regulars know how to navigate. If you can't handle the heat get out the kitchen. I know he wasn't the owner and I hope the owner reads this, I know it's hard to find good kitchen and counter help but you are only as good as your weakest employee. Not going to sit here and talk smack about the food which is actually good, but when your employees make your customers feel uncomfortable they don't come back and they tell others. I could have said something back to the idi** behind the counter but out of the respect for the other customers and the establishment I didn't. This is a no frills, old school bagel store. It's a small space; the counter is literally there once you enter the store. Tons of locals come here for freshly made bagels (you can even see them making it in their open kitchen). Go in ready to order or step to the side if you need to look at the menu. The staff are so efficient and speedy. I've dropped by in the early morning when it's packed and they plow through orders like nothing. I'm a plain kind of girl (I know, how boring lol) so bacon & egg on a plain bagel is my fave (I'm actually having one right now). You can't beat the price ($3.35)! I've also tried a couple other items on their menu which I'll share below. I also used to order my bagel with butter and jelly but noticed this oily aftertaste/smell coming from (what I think is) the butter. The smell was pretty overpowering and stuck to my clothes so I stopped ordering it. To clarify..the food was fine, just not the smell. Could just be me though..so don't take my word for it. Other items I've tried are bacon and egg with cheese which costs around $4, bagel with lox, oatmeal, and mini corn muffins. The lox is the priciest at around $8. The salmon isn't fresh, it's from a packet, but still delicious. The muffins on the other hand are standard..tastes like what you can get at a bakery. On the occasion I get their oatmeal which is made fresh each morning and I enjoy mine with brown sugar and bananas. It costs about $3 for a reasonable sized cup (slightly bigger than a Starbucks tall I'd say). As for drinks, you can find better. I've had their ice and hot coffee in the past which cost about $1.50 and am not a fan. It's just a little too watery for my preference. Overall, for the price and service, I highly recommend! TIP: They have a sandwich card. For every 10 sandwiches purchased, you get one free. If you forget to bring your card, ask for a receipt so you can claim your point later. read more

This is one of those "don't judge a book by it's cover" situations. From the outside, Bagel Bazar is not attractive, and when you go inside, it's even less attractive! There's not much space in there, 5-6 people can uncomfortably squeeze inside. The variety of drinks in the refrigerators is average at best, with your typical options and a couple of Manhattan Specials. They always seem to be very busy inside, maybe because it's so small it just looks that way, but the old red headed woman seems to run the place and there's two younger helpers up front. The place is so small because they do all the baking on site, so the space in the back is much bigger. Bagel Bazar is one of the dying breed of bagel stores left in Brooklyn, the type that hasn't "upgraded" and decided to sell 40 different types of wraps and paninis. The have bagels, and that's all they need! You can get bagel sandwiches too with cold cuts, but you care coming here for the good old Brooklyn bagel and that's it. A regular bagel with cream cheese will run you $1.75, while something with specialty cream cheese is going to cost you $3.25. My favorite is the egg bagel with their new cheddar jalapeno cream cheese. This isn't some synthetic blended mix, either. You will find huge chunks of cheddar and juicy jalapenos inside! The bagels are almost always excellent, not too chewy and just the right amount of crispiness on the outside. So, if you love bagels and can get past the ugliness, i recommend giving the no frill Bagel Bazar a try and get a taste of what old Brooklyn is like. Cash only! read more

I've been coming to this bagel store since I was in high school. The original owner still owns it, and as usual if your in the neighborhood its the perfect place to grab a bagel with butter or cream cheese or any other spread you might enjoy. Nutella??? Because, yes they have nutella!!! They have a large selection of bagels to choose from, and they are all made fresh in the back. Parking can be a bit intense but then again its located in the heart of 86th street bensonhurst and the parking ticket cops are watching your car like hawks. Bagels are soft and fresh and the owner is super friendly.It is my go to bagel spot when I'm in the area! This place has been here for eons; used to grab a well-toasted cinnamon-raisin drenched in butter at 7am every morning back in HS. I like my bagel with a crispy top and so much butter that it soaks thru the paper it's wrapped in and my hand gets greasy. Yeeeeah. Place is teeny weeny tight. They also sell rainbow bagels here for $2. I've seen these at other places and I would say that the ones here are more aesthetically pleasing. I've been walking past this place every day for years now and it never crossed my mind to make a pit stop since the outside looks kind of dingy. Mom & Pop shops all over are being shut down because of the takeover of corporations and franchises. Those bagels you get at the deli or Dunkin Donuts are nowhere near the league of a water bagel. The way water bagels are made is using the technique of boiling the dough before baking. Those you get a Dunkin or other locations are par baked bagels. They are mass manufactured, baked halfway, get delivered to the location it is being sold, and get baked the rest of the way. So when they tell you it's hot out of the oven, they are technically not lying. During the morning breakfast rush, expect the line to be out the door. During the morning breakfast rush, you have a higher probability of getting a bagel literally fresh out of the oven because they sell so quickly at times they don't make them fast enough. Years ago, some friends introduced me to whitefish salad. This is one of the few bagel shops that has whitefish salad as one of their spreads. So when I want to splurge, that is what I get as whitefish salad is a bit pricey. One of the benefits here is they have a sandwich card readers program. Read carefully. SANDWICH rewards, NOT bagels rewards. You get a stamp for each sandwich you buy. After you collect 10 stamps (buy 10 sandwiches), you earn a free sandwich. I was going to give it four stars because of the wait times waiting in line but the staff is really nice and very accommodating when I have them cater for work. Yes, they cater! Asian food is great but sometimes a girl just really wants a bagel smeared with cream cheese with a few slices of tomato added into the mix and this is exactly what I ordered today when I went to Bagel Bazaar. They make the bagels fresh on premises which to me is the creme de la creme. You're getting a FRESH bagel. The moment I bit into the everything cream cheese bagel, it was love at first bite. The bread inside the bagel was so soft and bouncy and the outside of the bagel was a solid crunch. The price can't be beat either. Since they make their bagels in house, the price of a bagel w/ cream cheese is significantly more affordable than if you'd go to your corner deli. I've got to come back and try more of their bagels next time I decided to take this route to work. Don't ever close Bagel Bazaar. Bought a dozen bagel + 1free for a office breakfast party and I asked the guy to toast one of the bagels in the bag and put cream cheese for me to go so I can have it on my commute to the city. I didn't mind paying extra. The guy told me no and that I had to pay for another bagel...when I already have 13 bagels in the bag. I don't understand why I need an extra bagel if I already bought a dozen from you. It's 6:00am, I'm starting my 12 hour shift and you couldn't even toast one bagel for me?
