Every time I come to New York, I'm always in search of the perfect bagel and slice of pizza. Stopped at bagel boss on my way from Montauk back to Manhattan. The bagels were soft and chewy and quite tasty. Even 2 day old bagels were highly appreciated by my husband. Definitely some of the better bagels I've had in New York, but I don't think it would be worth the trip from Manhattan if I weren't in the neighborhood. read more

Upon eating my bagel I was somewhat disappointed. it delivers average bagels that lack flavor and distinction, leaving the experience underwhelming for those seeking a tastier bite. It's 11 pm on a Tuesday night and my jet lagged body and brain are in " It's actually time for breakfast in Italy and Monaco" mode. Not a dense and chewy bagel but a smooth, tender and easy biting experience. There can only be one place in NY for this perfection - Il Capo di tutti I capi - the Boss of all Bosses; I'm writing about Bagel Boss. The original location that is open 24 hours and has been doing this for over 120 years. I did get a toasted everything bagel with butter ( $3.53) and it was outstanding. The coffee was hot and fresh and the employees making the egg sandwiches tonight were having fun as we somehow got into a conversation about Mike Myers's character Fat Bastard in the movie " Austin Powers". Great proactive and respectful crew here. Love them! Bagel Boss Hicksville has so much more - a whole section of delicious sweets and goodies - black and white cookies, rainbow cookies, black and white muffins every type of muffin imaginable, halvah bars, raspberry twists.......! What makes his location also very unique is the quality and versatility of their salads that they prepare. Their seafood salad is out of this world. The salmon is crazy delicious. ( video posted from November 2021). They just remodeled and created a beautiful, big, easily accessible open space by the busy counters. The dining area is warm and cosy. There is also seating outside. The restrooms ( separate for men and women) are immaculate and well stocked with HOT water. These are my favorite bagels ever. Period. Bagel Boss is what people mean when they talk about how good New York bagels are. The kind that you don't need to toast, because they're already perfect when fresh. My order is an everything bagel with lox cream cheese spread--never misses. You can find lots of other bagel shop staples here. There are various cold salads, tons of delicious cookies, and excellent iced coffee. I especially appreciate that they have multiple kinds of decaf iced coffee, which is difficult to find. Come for the bagels, but sample the other foods and grab some prepared stuff to go. There is also a big wall of drinks and takeout pre-made dishes. Bagel Boss is in a shopping center with ample parking, and it's near some other little shops (Staples, Five Below, a farmer grocery) if you need to run a few errands. Note that the restaurant is kosher and does not allow outside food/drink. There is a small seating area in the back, but Bagel Boss is more of a takeout place in my opinion. Yes, the prices are more steep than the grocery store. Yes, the line is long at peak times. But this is worth it for me for real, exceptional bagels with smear. read more

Paid $14.25 for a small coffee and a BEC sandwich. Complete rip off and they put turkey bacon instead of regular bacon without my consent. When I questioned after I tasted the sandwich I was told it's a kosher business. I should have been told that when I placed the order, not after. Used the rundown bathroom which was extremely dirty. Would never go there again and only went because it popped up on my GPS as the closest bagel store. Trashed the bagel after two bites. Coffee was also watered down. read more

The atmosphere here was hostile, driven entirely by the manager/boss. While an employee was trying to take an order, the manager began actively arguing with him right in front of a large group of customers. The manager actually reprimanded him and snapped, "It's below my pay grade." It was appalling to watch a leader treat their staff with such condescension. If this is how they treat their team in front of customers, I can only imagine what happens behind closed doors. It made for a very tense, awkward, and unpleasant dining environment. To top it all off, my total came to $5.97. When I waited for my 3 cents in change, I was told, "We have no more pennies; it's the new law." This is patently false and felt like a blatant excuse to pocket extra cash. While the U.S. Mint has discussed phasing out production, there is no law that allows a business to simply keep your change. Current regulations state that while cash must be accepted, there is no state-wide rounding system in place--meaning if you owe a customer change, you owe them change. Between the "too good for my job" attitude of the boss and the ridiculous excuses at the register, I will not be returning. Do yourself a favor and support a business that treats its employees and its customers with basic decency. Ridiculous Bagel was not worth it! read more

Not a bad spot for your average bagel, but it is not something to necessarily rave about. The bagels are alright here, but I've had better and fresher tasting ones elsewhere. Definitely not bad if its conveniently located near you, but not a top pick for myself personally! This most recent time I went I ordered a sesame bagel with butter, and got a cinnamon raison bagel instead. I don't mind cinnamon raison bagels, so I didn't want to send it back/make them remake it. At the time of my visit, there was only one other customer yet staff were neither pleasant nor accommodating. Upon asking that my bagel be sliced, I was advised there would be an additional charge! Given the number of businesses that provide good quality, "fresh" bagels, I would recommend they focus more on customer service and less on ripping off customers. read more

Just ordered a tuna bagel for $18 . In the photo it showed the bagel having lettuce, tomato onion and when I got it all it had was tuna on it for $18. That's absolutely ridiculous. I used to come here as a kid to enjoy the bagels and loads of other stuff. It's 24/7, which obviously is a plus. Especially if you me hungry at 2am after a long night, and you need some bread. But for some reason I'm my head, this place was amazing!! After 10 years, I come back to finally realize it was just ok. The bagels were ok, the lox was ok, the pasta prima salad was ok, the pickle was pretty good though. But nothing super amazing stood out. My favorite is Everything bagel with lox ( I ask for extra, willing to pay more) cream cheese, red onion, beef steak tomato and capers. With a side of potato salad and pickle. Better than Russ and Daughter's. For a more reasonable price. You should expand your offerings like Zabar's. This is my friend and I's classic bagel stop in the mornings before we go for a day hike. We alternate between getting sesame bagel with lox cream cheese and lox with veggie cream cheese. Best bagels in LI. The bagels are huge! They have every bagel flavor but my favorites are blueberry, French toast, egg, and cinnamon raisins. Sometimes they run out of blueberry and French toast so go early. They also have every spread imaginable but my go to is the strawberry cream cheese. My boyfriend always gets a bagel sandwich with egg, cheese, and sausage but the sausage is not meat it's vegetarian. They have baked goods too, I really enjoy their muffins and black and white cookies. The line is always long but the service is quick and attentive to your order. Bagel Boss has quality bagels in almost every flavor imaginable! I love that they have Whole Wheat Everything but you have to try their most popular flavor, the Egg Everything! If they could add a Whole Wheat Cinnamon Raisin, then I would be set. They are open except for Jewish holidays. The staff is nice and know how to move a line as most people are on their way to work in the mornings. I would recommend paying with cash to save a little as there is a fee to pay by credit card. Came in to purchase a gift box of cookies for a funeral. First time here and the selection of cookies looked great. However after i paid i noticed the lady closed the box with a sticker. I really just wanted to double check the box since it was gift, and i simply asked the lady if it looked nice, and she says I "insulted her".
