The Better Bagel in Amityville is a great spot. The was beautiful and really clean inside and in the cases. I ordered two ham, egg, and cheese bagels--one with fried eggs and one with scrambled eggs, each on different bagels. First off, I was really happy they got the order exactly right, which doesn't always happen at bagel shops. Even better, the bagels were fresh and tasted amazing. This is our favorite bagel shop in the neighborhood. Their egg sandwiches can't be beat. We usually split a sausage egg and cheese but we do pepperjack cheese and add avocado and a hashbrown for good measure. They put plenty of cream cheese on their very fluffy and always fresh bagels, too. On the weekends they have amazing popovers, too! The service is always efficient and friendly and I leave very satisfied. Highly recommend. read more

I asked her, "Are you okay?" because the energy was so off, but she just kept going. None of the other workers stepped in either--I felt completely invisible. I usually go here for the bagels. Their Asiago bacon egg flagel is so good. But today I tried their Italiana Uno sandwich. I'm not a mortadella fan so I subbed it out for turkey. I'm also not a ciabatta fan but I'm glad I didn't change the bread. This sandwich is soooo good. The pesto and burrata soak into the bread and make the sandwich even better. This was my first time visiting this shop. I love bagels. If I can get cheddar cheese, chicken and bacon on one, I'm in heaven. That's exactly where I went when I bit into this sandwich. We went in close to closing time after finding them online. When we got there, the staff was cleaning and wiping down the equipment and tables. But the staff was accommodating and pleasant. Besides a small snafu regarding paying an extra fee when purchasing with cash vs cards, it was a good experience. Bright. Lots of choices. Love this place, some of the best bagels around. Good prepared food and sandwiches. People are friendly. We order from there damn near once every weekend. But for the love of god, at least twice a month something is forgotten, missing, or wrong. It's quite frustrating because who feels like having to drive back, wait to talk to one of the workers who are busy as hell, only to go get something dumb like the cream cheese they forgot or an egg sandwich or whatever. My family has been coming here for years- even before they moved to a new building as it was one of our favorite places to get a bagel on LI. Now the store is chaotic, run by unfriendly staff and unhelpful management. After placing an order this morning, another customer who received a coffee without the lid being properly attached accidentally spilled SCALDING HOT coffee all over my sister, burning her arm, leg, side and feet. The staff stayed unmoving and staring until someone came to mop the floor and counter with a dry mop. Nobody offered to help my sister who was clearly burned. The owner was sitting in his office the entire time. And then our drink order was messed up because staff was distracted by the chaos. And of course when we got home, the bagel sandwiches were subpar at best, lacking the texture and flavor we used to love. Thoroughly disappointed with my experience here and probably will not be coming back. read more

I always love when our family brings these up to us on holidays. It was great to finally come myself. This bagel shop is clearly loved by all as it was packed when we arrived. The bagels are delicious! I ordered 4 dozen as I was taking these upstate for different friends and family. I asked for one dozen assorted in each bag. One bag had 6 plain and 6 egg. That's not really assorted. I ended up having to mix the bags to get an actual assortment for each family. We also didn't get any of certain flavors even though I asked for assorted. Next time I have a large order I will write down exactly what I want before I order and share the paper with the cashier. They were quick to serve us even though we came at a busy time and had a huge order. The space was very very clean. Because of other reviews, I watched the glove usage and they were good about putting on fresh gloves after handling money. All in all, I loved my first Long Island bagel shop experience! read more

The bagels are not much different than other bagel places but definitely on the pricier side compared to other places. The service is the main problem. Every single time I have ordered and left I open my order only to fine at least one item is incorrect. How hard is it to remember if it needs cream cheese or butter? It's ultra frustrating because I have never had this issue at any other establishment period. I'm not a fan of fried eggs and wasn't asked how I wanted my eggs cooked. Had I known the norm was fried eggs, I would have requested scrambled.
