The tots were the mvp tonight. We each got a burger, but only one of us upgraded to tots. They were definitely the move. This bar is lively + full of chatter + music. Food was bad. I've never tasted a burger so bleh my whole life. My friends and I were around the area for fall foliage and we wanted to eat good food after a tiring hike. We had lunch here one afternoon in July 2022. We stumbled upon it after walking up from the center of town. We were able to sit outside and order some burgers which were delicious! (I had the Local Burger.) The service was great! Our waiter was very friendly. Highly recommend! read more

My boyfriend and I went here twice while we were on vacation. We loved it! The bar is rather large- several tables and many counter seats. Two pool tables, a jukebox, a few TVs. They have an outside enclosed porch area with several comfy couches and another bar. It's clearly a place where the locals go. The bartender recognized us on our second night and remembered our drinks. They had reasonable prices for drinks and food. The overflowing basket of fries we ordered were $4. I'd definitely recommend! All the restaurants in the area are busy, chaotic, and expensive. This place is a better choice. read more

How have we not been to this place!?? We've vacationed in Stowe several times over the years and never knew about this restaurant. The smash burgers were incredible, tots, fresh crunchy salad, queso and chips - everything perfection! Great tap list too. Sadly another understaffed restaurant but the servers and host ran double and triple duty bartending, busing and waiting. Not a bad wait at all. Thx for an incredible lunch! Was not impressed with the food or service here. The chicken sandwich was possibly the least satisfying chicken sandwich I have ever had, and one that I had to wait a REALLY long time to get. The chicken patty was mostly breading and the actual chicken part could not have been half of a centimeter. Parts of the patty were just extended breading. There was zero flavor (could not taste chicken) and it was dry. It was served with stale tortilla chips that were clearly the small crumbs at the bottom of the bag. Sat in the patio during the rain. It was lovely. The waitress was excellent and she know about every single beer that was on the board. We were surrounded by locals who were all so polite and engaging. They loved this place. My husband and I both got burgers and I enjoyed the Bleu Cheese burger, cooked perfectly and super tastey. We do not get to Vermont often, but I sure will stop back to the Barkyard whenever we do. read more

Just renovated and reopened, great food with fresh ingredients, and very attentive staff. It's a cool joint inside, great vibe. We rolled in late on a Sunday night with 30 minutes left to order. The staff got our order in right away and the food - tacos and salad - were fresh and tasty. They stayed open a s little late so everyone could watch the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. It is a typical sports bar food. The popcorn chicken is okay, and the fried Brussels sprouts is a pile of Brussels sprout leaves. Very dissatisfied. The smash burgers were okay but the egg plant burger was not properly. The place is crowded and it is good for getting some drinks and bar food. But nothing special about it. read more

Although the beer selection was not as diverse as some comparable restaurants in Stowe, the food here was great despite seeming like simple fair. My wife had the whiskey BBQ burger, and I had the chicken bacon avocado sandwhich. Both of us opted for the tots. The food was extremely tasty and the service was outstanding. My friend picked up a pulled pork sandwich through the Everyone eats program and really enjoyed it. She kept recommending it so we stopped by today. My picky teen loved it sooo much she said things like: 'The best sandwich I've ever eaten..I don't want to eat anything else because I want the taste to last in my mouth forever...this is the best salad I've ever gotten from a restaurant (her family owns several)... this is sooooo good!!!' I'm a vegetarian so I just tried the salad. It was better than most and included ripe chopped tomato, shredded cabbage and carrots and a homemade ranch dressing. For context, I went to the Backyard at noon on a Saturday by myself and sat at the bar to watch a game. Service was good/friendly, I liked the background music and they had a pretty good selection of beers. On the less positive side, the menu is very limited for lunch (mostly salads and panini's), the food is mediocre/overprixed, the tv's are bad / don't carry most sports stations and the atmosphere is undermined by things like a fake electric fireplace. read more

I can't stress enough the server Joe has no knowledge of serving. Two beers spilled on a friend. 1 out of 5 meals "not put in". Tried to pay to leave and were charged for our neighbors dinner.
