Don't listen to the folks on here saying this place is "a hole on the wall." It's a funky spot with local character and good food! From the skateboard wheel doorknobs to the ski masks behind the register to the chalkboard menus, Mad Taco has strong alternative vibes. The punk rock/ classic hip-hop soundtrack playing made this Xennial's little 90's heart happy. Other reviews are accurate when they say the tacos are absolutely packed with meat! My partner had the carnitas and I had the Colorado tacos with house mole sauce. SO good, I think this might be my fave mole sauce ever. He has food allergies; the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful in helping us know what was safe for him to order. We got the queso special as an appetizer... delicious and well-balanced. Def could've used more tortilla chips, as others noted, but that would've left less room for tacos. Finally, we got the tortilla soup. It had quite a smoky flavor and contained jalapeño slices, somewhat heavy on the spice. It had lots of chicken as compared to commercial soups. Smoky soups are not our thing. But for folks who are into that sort of thing, don't skip it! We liked the farm-to-table sourcing they advertised. The quality ingredients show through in everything they make. We went here with some friends and kids and enjoyed a nice meal inside. The outdoor seating area is also cool and we enjoyed our food here. It also came pretty quickly. Food wise I like that they have a few choices for kids, although it's too bad they don't have a non-spicy ground beef option for kids. We split a special and the Ahi Tuna Tostada, which was tasty, although I wish the tuna portion was less meager. Smoked wings were decent and were spiced differently than others that I've had. BLUF: the food is good but not great. A bit pricey for what you get. Friendly service Two of us went here for lunch on a sunday. We ate at the bar, and the service was very friendly. Got the carne asada and al pastor taco dishes. The carne asada was tasty but quite chewy, definitely overcooked. The al pastor was very tasty and if I went back that's what I would get again. I do think the price is a bit steep. The tacos are pretty small given the price you pay for them, and for just a basic lunch for two of us with tacos and a drink came out to $50 with the tip. The service was friendly, and the view is very nice although frankly in this part of Vermont is hard to find a place where it isn't nice. read more

They were tender and juicy, they tasted fresh and had good flavor. The standout/unique one for me were their tortilla chips with salsa. These things were huge, around the size of my hand. After spending far too much time deciding which of the options would be the best options to break our fast, we settled on chicken tacos and the yam tacos. There is outdoor seating, a small bar of seats by the ordering window for food, and more seats on the bar side of the establishment. It was a bit hot outside, so we sat under the covered walls across from the bar where it was much cooler. Good vibes, conversing locals, amazing food that came out fast. Don't be intimidated by the long lines, it is worth it. Their system for the newcomer seemed a bit daunting as you have to wait in line (there are two lines to order food, one at the restaurant and one in the bar (didn't know that my first time)) to place your order. Unique environment in Waitsfield, VT. A craft beer bar on one side and restaurant seating on the other. The food is on the "messy" street food side of Tex-Mex. We got a chorizo quesadilla, carnitas tacos, and a kids beef taco. The proportions were just not right. Everything was solid and you get a lot of food. A couple of things were a bit unexpected. We ordered chips and salsa. But we only got 4-5 5 inch "circle" chips that we had to break up when we got home. It didn't yield much. Typically you get a fair amount of chips at Tex mex places, but not here. Second, the kids tacos were literally overflowing with beef. So much so that I thought the cheese was forgotten, but I eventually saw it on the bottom, in negligent amounts. I'm always down for a good taco in a new city! I was in Warren, VT for a girls trip and my friend recommended this place to us. When you walk in it's a little hectic as we were thinking we would get seated and then have our order taken. It didn't work like that. You stand in line, place your food and drink order, pay, get your silverware, napkins, sauces and head to the other side to find somewhere to sit. It was very crowded this night as this is one of the local hangouts. We found seats at the bar and enjoyed our drinks until the food came out. About the food ... we ordered guacamole and chips, beef tacos and chili for 2 of us. The other two ladies ordered guacamole and chips and their choice of tacos. The guacamole was very salty. I almost felt like they prepared it but forgot to mix it all together because once I stirred it up it wasn't as salty. I still think they could go a little easier on the salt. The beef tacos were delicious and I had no complaints there. The chili was not good at all. Way too many black beans and the taste was just weird. My other friends loved their tacos. The bartender was awesome and we had a lot of fun with him. He even photobombed our group picture which was hilarious!! Would I revisit this place ... of course I would. For the 3 stars I give this place, I would like to see if changes are made to the salt level of the guacamole and the chili needs work but we came for the tacos and they were fabulous!!!
