The vibe here is chill, the staff actually smile (rare these days), and the pizza next door? Dangerous. You'll "just have one slice" and suddenly be in a full-blown cheese coma. Perfect spot to unwind, grab a pint, and pretend you're a craft beer expert for an hour. Definitely coming back -- this place hits all the right notes. read more

Pretty decent beer selection and laidback vibes. Plenty of parking as it's located in a strip mall. It shares a space with Lamppost Pizza. The inside was pretty crowded for a Thursday night but there was lots of space on the patio. We got two pitchers: the golden ale and the seltzer. Both were refreshing and delicious! read more

Overall, we had a good experience here. My party of 2 came in on a Wednesday around 5pm. We initially tried a flight of 4 of their beers, and all of them were solid and true to the style of beer. My two favorites were the Heritage Hefeweizen and the Animation IPA. The servers were nice and checked up on us regularly. The brewery is connected to Lamppost Pizza, so you need to walk inside of the pizza parlor to get to the brewery. The vibes were very relaxed and low key, and they have a nice patio outside. Enter through the pizza place. This brewery is inside the pizza place. Came here early afternoon with a large group that wanted to get beer. There was a lot of room and plenty of parking in the plaza. Cheese bread was delicious. 9-yard pizza was super delicious with lots of ingredients. The ingredients falls off the pizza but its easy to gather and eat it. Service was great and employees seemed happy to have us there. read more

Paper plates, forks and party cups I don't know what is happening here! There was literally only one bartender taking orders and serving! You can order food from Lamppost pizza right from the bar! The mozzarella sticks are stale(please don't order) waste of money! The Mediterranean pizza was fine...could be better if the kitchen learned how to cut the toppings! I was biting into my slice of Pizza and pop a whole chicken breast popped out of no where! They didn't even care about cutting it into pieces! I will not be dining here ever again ! Shares a space with Lamppost Pizza, which is deserving of its own review since it has great food! 13 house beers on tap with a nice selection for every style fan. The Beach Party Blonde and Blood Orange Animation IPA were my favorites. Two 6oz flights ran me about $17, great price for a flight compared to other breweries in the area. Cool little spot to grab a beer. This spot is located inside of Lamppost Pizza. It's not the original Backstreet Brewery, but it's still pretty dope. You can eat pizzas and other foods and grab beers. What's better than that? I'll usually come here and get a flight. I believe they cost about $7.50? Which is actually a damn good deal. This location is inside a Lamppost Pizza which would be fine but after spending $10 on Jalapeno Poppers I found that Lamppost Pizza's food is awful. Our poppers were obviously from Costco and then fried and honestly, terrible. The cheese inside wasn't even melted completely. Yuck. We saw a personal pizza come out and it looked fine but I'm guessing (based on my experience and how empty the restaurant was) the apps are all out of the box fried and served. THANKFULLY the beer and the beertender were wonderful! It was not crowded when we showed up on a Sunday afternoon and we had great service and tasty beers so we were still super happy about it...just stay the heck away from any Lamppost apps. read more

Apparently there is a smoking patio where patrons aren't warned (no signage or warning by staff even when you ask for your food to be delivered to the patio) that they allow smoking (apparently is is permitted in a certain size of establishments as long as the smoking area is less than 20% or something unless the municipality/Irvine regulates against it- and they haven't). This quite honestly (along with the food ruined the experience) The beer was defiantly the high point of the location, not my favorite ever but it was solid. Absent the other issues I would defiantly consider returning! The food (I understand it is a different business entity but when you are within it their review will affect yours) was subpar to say the least... staff was quite nice but I didn't go there for staff I went for food, beer, and ambiance - so unfortunately that couldn't save the experience). Would not recommend going unless you want to sit inside and it is loud or outside and chain smoke with some "regulars" that talk about the old days when the patio had a different shape and eat subpar food...if that is what you are looking for defiantly his is your spot. Bookmarked this place a while ago but never found it...didn't realize it was INSIDE the Lamppost Pizza! I thought it was like a unicorn or something. A brewery IN irvine?! There were probably 10-15 different beers on tap. Maybe about 5 that were specifically Backstreet Brewery brews. Bf and his friend had tried the red, the IPA, and the hef. Was told all were very good. I tasted them, but I'm not much of a beer person bc I'm not a fan of the hops. Did have the cream ale and thought that was very smooth and quite tasty. In addition to the beers, we also got an order of cheesy breadsticks with pizza sauce (per Nathan's suggestion). It was the perfect combo! So ooey gooey cheesy goodness! Interesting group of characters that hang out here. Loud, hilarious and entertaining to watch. Great place to spend an afternoon drinking and eating junk food. And Nathan the bartender was awesome! read more

The pizza is atavistic of 1970's SoCal pizza parlors, the kind of place where Softball and Little League teams meet at least once a week (and that is what Lampost Pizza/Backstreet is). We just stopped in for a couple of beers. This place is an annex to the pizza joint, and as such it's quite small. It was also a little dirty. The bartender gals were nice and the beer was fine, if unremarkable. The Mind's IPA was fairly bitter but really lacking in any dry hopped herbal or citrus notes. The Hep Cat Pale was good by my standards because it was quite hoppy, but my girlfriend was a little surprised by the heavy-handed hop profile. Both beers were light on body with not much attention paid to the malt. The beer is fine, and maybe the deck is nice, but as for a "hang out" this place will not be on my list of pubs, since it's not a pub. I'll come back and try the pizza sometime though. read more

Pizza and beer... Need I say more. Yelp would probably want me to. The beer is good- not great. I am an IPA guy myself and I wasn't really impressed with theirs. They weren't hoppy enough to me. I want my tastebuds to be drop kicked with bitter goodness. The pizzas are a little pricy, $25 for a med. they are piled with toppings though. Like the toppings that fell off as I was eating was more than what comes on a papa johns pizza. Great place to catch the game and throw back a couple brewskis with the broskis! read more

Great service and friendly staff. They have good lunch specials and excellent wings . I usually get the two pizza slice combo w/beverage and upgrade the beverage to a beer for a couple dollars more (the heritage hef is the way to go) it's a great spot for football on Sundays too read more

Brought ten business associates here and was extremely disappointed with the service. We sat outside in the Brewery section, not the Lampost Pizza area, and got service initially but never again. One bartender for Monday night football is unacceptable. Took over an hour to order food and that was only after I tracked the bartender down at the bar. Will NEVER go here again. Place was very crowded but one person working in the brewery is not working for me. When I spend $150+ at a pizza/brewery joint I don't want to work to find my bartender for food or a beer. Will say that the pizza is very good. Really not sure how this place stays in business, must be the lack of competition in the area. This place has great food and lots of diferent beers on tap that are always good. It's a very comfortable bar and it's great for watching football on Sundays. They are also dog friendly on the patio and were even so nice as to bring us a bowl of water for our dog on a hot day. We will definitely be back! The pizza bread is surprisingly good!! read more

The dining area is filled with rows of long benches and long tables. A mixture of people of all ages and lots of little league, pop-warner type teams. The pizza, pasta and salad is O.K., but nothing to write home about. I think I can make a better marinara sauce, but no one in our party felt like cooking and that is why we met up at Backstreet Brewery/LampPostPizza. The beer was decent. Backstreet Brewery is like the rich uncle that you never knew you had. How could I have gone this long without knowing about this place? Located right next to Lamppost Pizza, this microbrewery is a nice, quaint place to grab some beer and escape reality for an hour. The bartender was brutally honest when we asked him what was good, to which he told us that everything was crap and that the Euradort was the only bearable tasting beer at the time. Telling it like it is. They have a new selection of microbrews every week or so you have something to look forward to. I noticed a "Wall of Fame" that had giant beer glasses hanging from pegs as I walked in. I asked the bartender what that was, and he said that those were personal mugs for the locals and regulars. He said that you pretty much have to dedicate your life to drinking beer in order to get one. I accept your challenge. read more

Pizza is pretty good, decent selection of beer. Casual pub that makes their own beers and carries a good amount of commercial beers. We had the pepperoni pizza, and the small did NOT seem small! We also had the "Best of Seven" pizza - and that was really good. Nice combination of ingredients. It got pretty busy while we were there. A nearly full pub, and only one bartender who also served as waitress in the whole pub section. Service got pretty slow then. Nothing outrageous, and that is only because the overworked bartender worked her arse off the entire time! We'll go back. It is hard to find pizza and brew that we'd rate a 3 or better in OC. read more

I really wanted to like this place because it is close to my house but it turned out to be the worst beer ever. My BF & I go to a lot of breweries and this is BY FAR the worst. We didn't eat any food but just came to try the beer with great expectations. We ordered 2 flights which included 8 beers so most of their offerings were represented. I think they have a problem with not cleaning out their tap lines because all but 2 of the beers tasted so strongly of mildew and soap that they were undrinkable. It is possible that the beer is decent to good when not suffering from bad operations practices. The blonde ale, pilsner, red ale, and two IPAs were all affected. We have never before left a brewery with beer left in a flight of tasters but we just couldn't do it. The nut brown was the only one that was actually a decent beer, I really wanted to like the porter but that one had an overpowering cat pee smell, which is an unfortunate off note that some beers develop, usually in a subtle way. This was not subtle, it was straight up cat pee. On the bright side the server at the bar was friendly and attentive, too bad they couldn't deliver on the beer. read more

As divey as a family beer joint can get. Beer was okay, the rest sucked. Costco pizza is better. The sole bartender/beer pourer spent most of her time smoking with a group of wasted rednecks on the smoke-filled patio. When she was actually behind the bar, she actively ignored the patrons. One couple came in, sat down at the bar, waited about ten minutes as the bartender twiddled her thumbs, gave up and left. Interior of restaurant and bar smelled like b.o. and mold. Not hops/brewary funky stink, unclean stink. The bathroom had a major sewer gas backup and hadn't been cleaned for at least a week. There was no soap and the automatic paper towel dispenser was set to run until the paper towels landed on the soaked counter top. The employees took turns smoking cigarettes on the storefront deck and smoking Marijuana just outside the back/service entrance to the store where all the weed smoke would blow through the restaurant each time the door was opened. The only employees that appeared sober were the guy working on the brew tanks and the food runner girl. My buddies loved the drunk chick staff because they are horn dogs without fire hydrants, but I doubt most people will because they didn't do the hugs and rubs like the hooters girls did.
