We thought we came at a good time, maybe 12 guests were here. It was a nice day so we asked to sit outside. Huge mistake. We didn't realize service was going to fail. 25 minutes after being seated, we were still waiting for someone to come and offer us something to drink, maybe even take our order. Lordy day, it was getting hotter by the minute and I was parched AF! My husband got tired of waiting and hopped over the gate/fencing around the outdoor area and went to look for someone to take take our order and get us some water (he had a mango beer they he enjoyed). Back on point to my review before I get sidetracked and type a novel. The water tasted like the water you get from a park with lots of ice on it; Water was nasty. Fish taco meh. Took a while to get water or drink order so when we did get it we Ordered appetizer & food at the same time. Took a while and I didn't think it was worth the wait. Sliders, chicken was size of a chick-fil-a nugget & bun 4x the size. Burger was okay but not hot when arrived. Although service was on the slow side, it wasn't the waitstaff it was just the atmosphere here. Boring. The TVs with games & sports are in a separate room doors and all. It's like one big concrete room with no character no music that I heard. No personality. The food taste boring. Even the rim with bar and tvs looked boring and dim. We decided before we even paid the check we wouldn't be back. There are places you try 2x at least in case it's an off day. This is not the case. Regret even the first visit. My worst experience at this place. Kloe the waitress was decent. My biggest complaint is the $8.50 margarita. It was packed full of ice. Even told the waitress and she wanted to know if I wanted to order another. If I want a margarita that's 8.50 I want to get more than 2 ounces from It. The ice was to the top of the glass. This was the main reason for the one star. I've also ordered the cheese fries and tonight they were nothing like I had two months ago. Went to this place this evening for dinner. Saw that it got decent reviews and the menu looked good. . . Showed up at 7:55 PM and were seated inside at a large table. Saw a number of waitresses and servers walk by and nothing was said. After 10 minutes my family and I agreed we would walk out - a first for us - if nobody came to our table after 15 SOLID minutes; I mean, SOMEBODY should at least say something within 15 minutes right?? At the 15th minute on the dot, a waitress approached and I thought, wow finally. . . But believe it or not, she walked over and greeted a table that had been seated about 10 minutes AFTER us. The final straw - ADIOS!! As we made our way to the door the hostess appeared confused with what we were doing, or where we were going . . . OVER TO THE LONGHORN STEAKHOUSE. BACKPORCH HAS HORRIBLE SERVICE. Won't do that again. . . Called the manager Alexis this same evening and advised her of our experience. The food is always awesome, but the service is truly some of the most abysmal I've ever experienced. I have to really want to eat at Backporch Drafthouse to brave the awful service and eat there. 20+ minutes at a time not seeing a single server is common there. I'm not exaggerating. When you finally do have a server come to check on your table, you better have EVERYTHING you could possibly need for the next 20+ minutes ready to ask, because it'll be awhile before you see anyone again for a refill, silverware, or whatever else it is they've neglected your table with. If you can, don't come here. I probably won't be back for a while after this past trip. read more

If I could give zero stars I would!!! I have been a regular here since 2020 and have seen this restaurant go downhill. The sinks are falling off the walls as well as the tiles. The food tastes like microwaved cardboard and the management is horrible. But last night was my last straw with this establishment. I watched a young bartender struggle alone and then get yelled profanities at by I assume new management. I have seen countless workers here walk out but never yelled at in front of customers. I tried a michelada from the lady bartender like 4 times and it was warm and all those times she didn't put ice but I don't know why, different bartender different version I guess.. 3:30pm on a Sunday visit. Very SLOW service. Every time I have ever went there I tell myself "Not going back!" and I end up returning attempting to give it another shot ONLY because my husband wanted steak fingers. Today 6/13/21 was my last time. Our waitress kept her mouth shut the ENTIRE time. Not a word. Never asked to refill our drinks, we had to ask. Never brought me napkins, we had to ask. When she did bring the napkins and lemons, she slapped both on the table and stormed off. Never brought silverware. After we placed our appetizer and kids food, she did not return. When she did, she set the appetizer down and disappeared for another 15 minutes. 38 minutes into waiting for our food, after the kids have eaten and are beginning to get restless, our food shows up. She walks off, no refills, no "do you need anything?", not a word. What a disappointment. I was seriously looking forward to a good visit. I had to ask for the check, she swiped our card right at the table and asked for the tip on the screen. Unfortunately the "ask for the tip at the table" tactic didn't work and she still got the $0 this visit deserved. Btw - they "don't have" steak fingers today and we got a LOVELY eye roll from her on the way out. Don't go for a family visit. It's obvious this restaurant is more a bar and is looking for alcohol sales. We all basically felt like an inconvenience. No thanks. General Manager asked me to call her. I did twice with no answer. We have been here 3 times. First time was actually good. Impressed with service and food. This last time was ridiculous. Went in and everything looked like complete chaos. We ordered our food to-go and it took forever and then came out cold. Burger tasted awful. There was barely any chicken on my chicken sandwich and for $11 I'd think you'd get more meat than that. Also upcharged for sweet potato fries and did not get them because they said they were out and didn't bother to fix the ticket or offer something comparable. The food was just absolutely not what it was a year ago. Really a bummer cause this place was my idea cause I really enjoyed the chicken sandwich the first time I got it. My family and I wanted to try this place today. They drove up from San Antonio. We got there a little before 11 and waited until they opened. However they never opened. We waited for about 20 min and nothing. We could see the employees inside but they never notified us they were opening late. I saw multiple people wait and then leave. So we ended up taking our business elsewhere. But come to find out they posted on Facebook that they were opening up later than expected and I told them on that post it would have been nice if they came out and told people who were waiting the info. Upon walking in the whole place wreaked of cheap floor cleaner. The atmosphere and decor has a very cheap and cold feel Now onto food. The menu pics looked great. The actual versions that we got served were not at all as advertised My wife had a Reuben I had a sirloin sandwich. Both of our breads were burned and the dressing on both was absolutely overloaded on both sandwiches had zero flavor as well The entire staff had washed out hot pink muscle shirts and shorty shorts . That ensemble is ok if you have the body for it. Many of the ladies there did not. When the waitress was ringing up out ticket she asked how everything was I went off on her and told her the food was shit and the whole experience was miserable. Prior to last night I would have given them four stars. I have done so on sites like Facebook and Google. Last night everything changed. Food was good and we were having a great time until the manager came to our table and told us we had to leave because one of us called the waitress a B-word. We were receiving excellent service and every employee was kind, smiling and helpful. We had never discussed a server in any capacity as we were catching up on business and life. We had no reason to speak negatively about anyone from the staff as we always get outstanding service. We are regulars. When I asked the manager the who, what, when about the accusation, she said "You called my waitress a B." All three of us vehemently denied it and stated we were having a good time. She then stated "All of you have consumed more than two beers an hour and you have to leave." I said goodbye to three of the waitresses and informed them and the manager I will never return. I will also do everything I can to keep anyone I know from supporting their business. I also informed her I spend an average of $600 to $800 a month bringing my customers to their establishment and I will take that business to a new restaurant. Excuse me? YOU SERVED US THE ALCOHAL AND IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBULITY TO MONIITOR AND ADHERE TO THE LAW. NOT OURS. Had she asked us to leave for being loud or cursing, I would have asked for an opportunity to quiet down and left if she persisted with no complaint. I was in the service industry as a waiter/bartender/manager and have great respect for the BS they deal with. This is one of the reasons I am always respectful to the staff and tip well. No, instead both my customers and I were accused of being rude and horrible people and not afforded the opportunity to defend our position. No discussion beyond our denial. You obviously didn't believe all three of us and proceeded to kick us out of the establishment for your employee over serving us according to your 2 Beers an hour rule. I have no issues with the enforcement of the rule at your leisure. I have walked in your shoes and understand the importance of using rules in the best interest of the establishment. However, in my experience you cut someone off for over-serving and usually offer a complimentary coke or water. No booze the table will usually close their tab and move on. I'm a firm believer in supporting our small businesses in these challenging times and I am afforded the opportunity to spend more than most because of my proximity to my customers. I will now take my business to other establishments and when my customers ask why we don't go to Back Porch anymore, I will share this experience. I was a patron and you had no desire to listen or discuss the situation. You decided we were guilty and wanted us out. No discussion, nothing, just out. You insulted all three of us by accusing us of something we would never do, implied we were liars and kicked us out for your failure. I do hope the Back Porch uses this as a coaching opportunity for you. I don't want you to lose your job or to be punished. I hope they train you on how to better situations like this in the future. But I will never be back. PS - Had we been given the opportunity to tell you what happened, we could have offered an explanation, apologized to the waitress for the confusion and probably thrown a nice tip her direction. All would have been well as it was an obvious misunderstanding. The B-word was used at our table when someone was discussing their ex. If anyone heard us say this word, we were in the wrong. The women bartenders are friendly, and pay attention to the customers. I ordered the bacon ranch chicken tacos. Ask if there was no onions. Menu has that what is on the chicken taco was bacon, ranch, chicken, lettuces, and tomatoes. Several bits in I found onions. I started to move items around my tray and found a fly on my tray. I went to shoo it away and it did not fly away. So it was on my tray even when I got it and did not see it until after I started eating. A server came over to ask how things were doing when I point the fly on my tray. And did the shoo thing again. She was shocked and asked if I wanted to speak with the manager. I stated yes I did. Waited 20 minutes and no Manger. I finally got up to find someone when my server was coming out of the kitchen. I stated I still had not spoke to the manager yet. She explained he was working the line. I stated I wanted a quick minute. She went into the kitchen and came back out he would comp the bill. People: The staff here are ALWAYS super friendly. _Kate Palmer_ is the BEST bartender in Temple so make sure you visit the the back bar! If you are interested in any local craft beer, there is a huge selection to choose from. Quality: The quality of the food and drinks is hard to beat anywhere in Temple. Prices are respectable and the taste will never disappoint. You have to try their burgers. My favorite is the Jalepeño Popper burger! We got seated then 10 minutes or so pass by; then another family got seated next to us and then got promptly served and drink orders were taken for the other family. So it looked to be our business was not needed nor wanted so we left and went to the Longhorn Steak House next door and got service very promptly. My mother in law had a straight cheeseburger. We tried the Thai shrimp salad, which was surprisingly good. Their beer menu is two pages long. Backporch offers a few traditional brands as well as local draft beers. They also offer wine and other liquor. Backporch has an outside seating area with games (giant Jenga and others) and three separate areas inside: a traditional bar, a bar with high tables, and a separate section with booths. We were seated promptly but it took about 10 mins (I checked the time) before a waitress actually helped us, I contemplated leaving but I'm glad I didn't. I tried the burger of the day, the famous I believe it was called? Onion strings, jalapeño ketchup (spicy ), bacon, cheese and all the usual toppings. It was AWESOME. I was surprised as some of the reviews were mixed about the burgers, but it was great. The fries were luke warm and didn't seem very fresh but it was okay because I only cared about the burger.
