Went here on a Tuesday evening for a quick dinner. Sat at the bar and ordered the grilled fish tacos and fried jalapeños as a starter. The fish tacos came out, but I had not received the fried jalapeños yet, so I asked the server about that part of my order. The bartender even chimed in and told the server the fried jalapeños should have been served first. The bartender then asked if I still wanted the fried jalapeños, to which, I replied no. About five minutes later, the manager came up to me at the bar and apologized for my incorrect order service. She informed me that they were taking 50% off my bill and not charging for the fried jalapeños, presented me a $10 gift card for making the mistake on my order and gave me an order of fried jalapeños, on the house, to take home This Is Customer Service!!! Even though they made a mistake with my order, the manager owned it, and demonstrated they value my patronage as a customer. I will be back! read more

Service was terrible. They had only been open for an hour when we arrived. Took 20 minutes to have a waiter greet us, then took another 25 minutes to get drinks, and food took over 45 minutes to be delivered after ordering. Will not be going back. read more

Drove up from Georgetown to try the amazing looking burgers here. I ordered the Barn Yard Freak Burger. With a side of sweet potato waffle fries ($1.50 up charge). I'll give it a 3 1/2 stars. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium & the egg over medium. Burger was over cooked. Egg was good. The burger had a great flavor. I ordered it without a bun and it came correctly. My sweet potato waffle fries were tasty but very chewy, like they have been sitting there awhile. My husband ordered the BBQ Alaskan Salmon Salad. He loved it. He subbed ranch dressing since honey mustard is no bueno in his book. He actually said the salad didn't even need dressing. The food took awhile to come out. Turns out our waitress was the only one in the bar area. She was very nice and knew the menu well. It seems maybe they could have a food runner instead of having the waitress deliver the food to the tables. Hence maybe why my waffle fries were not great. We sat outside on the patio. It is 103 today but it was comfortable since they had one of the large roll up doors open and the air conditioning kept us cooler. My car club ended up trying Back Porch after our regular restaurant (Gin at Nolan Creek) decided to try to stick us with a bogus $300 event charge. Yes, we were a large group. That didn't stop the classy joint from honoring our reservation for outdoor dining. Our diners arrived from the DFW area and Austin in separate groups. Front of house staff was great; our tables were correctly set up for 10 diners. Service was very impressive considering there were alot of separate checks; well done yall! Portions were huge, the Nashville Hot Sliders that my dining neighbor ordered were bigger that a McDonald's Chicken Sandwich...and there were three!!!! Mostly handheld foods were ordered; GF picking the Green Machine salad with chicken. Thumbs up from her. My Crispy Steakhouse Burger paired Route 66 style onions, bacon, cheese, jalapenos, fried onion strings, and two sauces. Cooked med-rare (another thumbs up), it was delicious. When server finally showed up, we were asked if we were ready to place our order. We told her no since we weren't given menus. She pointed to the QR code at the end of our table and said this is your menu. But I think she could tell by the look on my face that we wanted a paper menu. Finally placed our order and the item I really wanted they didn't have everything to make it. Oh well I decided on something else. It was okay but I've had a better sandwich at McAlister's. It's just amazing how incompetent someone can be when they bring you your food and ask if you need anything else. Well yea, some utensils to eat with would be just dandy. We had nachos to start and they were huge and tasty. I had fried mushrooms which I really liked I wish there was more mushroom than breading, ranch was delicious! My hubby and me split The Legend, goodness that burger made me want to slam my mama (I'd never do that) but dang it was so good. Fries were good too. My only complaint was that we went during lunch hour I didn't feel like there were that many people and our burger took a while but we chatted and it was worth the wait. We have been waiting to visit BackPorch Drafthouse for a while. The building and decor are top notch. The service was good. The food and atmosphere is lacking. Sandwich was bland and the fries are soggy and oily. For a nice Texas establishment I'd expect country music or something the is nice to hang out and enjoy a meal listening to. All that was played was rap music and at a level that was way too loud. We sat in the bar which was probably not a good decision. The restaurant was empty so we thought we'd hang out in the bar. We came at an odd time, around 3pm. Got seated quickly however food took over 15 mins to get to us. So a little slower in the kitchen but if you don't mind waiting they have TVs to entertain ya. Salsa was truly delicious...tasted very home made. Not sure if it is. Queso had a nice kick as well. Again, though, I wasn't overly impressed with my sandwich. I ordered the Pollo En Fuego: Butter Toasted Brioche, Buttermilk Fried Tenders, Smashed Avocado, Sriracha Mayo, Pepper Jack, Caramelized Fresh Jalapenos. I asked for the jalapeños on the side. I was expecting a hearty sandwich with good-sized chicken tenders, a good bite. But, the chicken was diced, small, and not at all chicken-tender-ish, couldn't tell it had been breaded, which was disappointing. It was tasty, just not what I was expecting based on the description. Don't waste your time. We went there and they ran out of burgers and mashed potatoes! How does that happen? Then ordered brisket sandwich and 10 minutes later they said they were out of brisket. Had to ask for silverware while we were eating and my wife said no coleslaw on her pulled pork sliders and they came with it and they were so dry. Did not take anything off the bill and the people who sat before us got their food while we were leaving. Horrible! read more

Amazing burger. I cannot say enough about it. The jack Daniels sauce was great. The meat was fresh and juicy. The bun was amazing. It was just the right amount of crisp without being overcooked. Very good stuff. The waitstaff were also very friendly and the chairs were comfortable. read more

Roopa's was closed Sunday night so I used the Yelp app & entered "top rated restaurants in Temple" and Voila! Backporch Drafthouse. Apparently a 4 location chain. The restaurant was sparce but the bar (where I ate) was pretty busy with Social Distancing and Sunday NFL was on. My TXTech bro Mahommes took care of business at Tampa and Tom Brady and I had a good dining experience. I ordered Green Chili Chicken tacos which were great and really reasonably priced. After finishing the order of 2 I was really wishing there was a 3rd one! Great flavors, nice Baracho bean side and great service. Great service from Sara and her co-bartender. This place was literally 1/4 mile from my hotel. Definitely makes the starting lineup for lunch or dinner options when I am in Temple. Slow service when I was there. By observing, you tend to get more prompt and timely service if you're known or a regular. Was very evident when the waitress who waited on me walked by several times without acknowledging me and went directly to the table right beside me. She did correct the receipt to reflect the up charges we missed, but she didn't know we were missing anything until we were done with our food and drinks. The burgers tasted disgusting and the sweet potato waffle fries were frozen and then over fried. The drinks were okay. The mule was decent. I used to love back porch. I have been coming here for years. The food used to be incredible and the drinks are always cold and refreshing. Recently, there has been a noticeable decline is food quality. Last Sunday I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the gravy had more salt in it than the sea. Tonight I came in with my boyfriend and we sat at the bar. Ordered food and drinks. Drinks came out almost instantly thanks to Sarah who is an amazing bartender. The food although, came out almost an hour later. My fish tacos were soggy on the bottom, fried which I ordered grilled and had the worst fishy taste. Let's start off with the shrimp oo boy needs to be a permanent fixture on the menu. My dad said his burger was good- he got the gringo. I don't eat beef so I didn't try his but he said he wishes he got the po boy too it was so good. My son had chicken strips and they were great amount of white meat chicken and the batter was on point. The only thing I would change (and this is on me) is that we all had fries so I should have gotten sweet potato fries or another side so we could have tried more. We will absolutely be back. It's close to the movie theatre. Also a major bonus that would wouldn't expect- they have a family restroom. Had the burger special with a side salad for lunch and hubby had a burger with fries. Both burgers were really good. Mine had a nice heat to it, which I really liked. The salad was pretty good, but I'm always sad when I see limp lettuce in my plate. It happens, but I wish people would just take a quick look while plating and remove those pieces. So a couple of things I want to address. 1. This restaurant is OPEN during COVID-19. The only requirement is to wear a mask entering. You are free to remove it once seated. 2. I'm not sure why Yelp hasn't gotten around to it-but brunch actually starts at 10:30 AM on Saturday's and Sunday's (not the 11 am listed here on Yelp) 3. Sports bar area is fully open and they have dozens of delicious beers on tap. Not into beers? They've also got great cocktails for the ladies 4. Patio area is definitely dog friendly and they even have little treats and water bowls especially for your precious pooch! Now as for the food...I haven't tried anything that I didn't like so far. This is usually my fav place for strong drinks and good food. Yesterday afternoon I stopped in w a friend and there was maybe a total of 10 other patrons in the bar and main dining. We ordered pulled pork nachos. Pulled pork was cold to the touch, cheese was also lukewarm. We asked for it to be warmed and it came back lukewarm. I asked for an additional cup of queso as they were light handed on the nacho and that tasted like watery curdled milk. I get that covid and restrictions have seriously dampened business but I've never been so disappointed in this place until then when you literally have no excuse because the restaurant is practically empty and that's the disgusting quality you stuck on a plate. No thank you. Update as of 8/3/2020 -I meet a friend for drinks around 5p, relatively full in bar area, we are taken to the side tables to be seated along the brick wall and a huge cockroach is climbing up the wall. I asked for the waitress to take care of it and she looked lost as to what to do. We moved to another table in the middle of the area away from any walls. Another patron got up and killed the roach w his shoe and rolled his eyes at me and told the waitress he took care of it. She proceeds to wipe down the table again since we had technically touched it due to covid standards. We stayed for one set of drinks and left. I wish I could remove all the stars from this rating. Love the burgers and sandwiches. Backporch has a large selection of out of the ordinary grub. Try the Brisket- Pimento cheese sandwich or the Mother porker, you won't go home hungry. Great selection of regional craft beers and some crazy good margaritas. Low key casual sports bar dining, very reasonably priced. Great service most of the time, lots of new faces every time we dine.
