I'm literally writing this review without even leaving my seat because I couldn't wait to say something. I'll be honest -- after seeing this place on Facebook, I didn't really know what to expect. But the food completely impressed me. Everything came out better than expected and you can tell there's real effort put into it. Josh, our server, was amazing. Don't let the exterior fool you! I almost skipped this because I thought it was a dive bar, but so glad I didn't. We were here to celebrate my husband's promotion. I found this on Yelp recommended for good food. Backdraft bar and grill is in a shopping centre sharing a large parking lot with other retail shops. There are lots of lots. Also, the restaurant is in memory of Chris's brother- who was a firefighter. This was one of the main reasons why we came. Whilst walking towards the restaurant, I smelt the most wonderful smell. And knew we were in for a treat. We did wait a while for a table as it was quite busy. A while - approximately 5 minutes. Whilst waiting, we noticed that the exit was not open, and my hubby told the owner. This was tended to immediately, and the door was unlocked and opened up. There is sitting indoors and outdoors and also at the bar. The servers immediately clear the tables and hustle around. Nobody is kept waiting long. They are dog friendly in the patio and indoors if your dog is a service dog. They had no issues with ours. We ordered two trumer pilsners. They have 16 beers on tap, and these are rotated. Also, they are in the process of applying for the liquor licence- for the moment, they have beer, and different wines ; white, red and rose. Our beer came within 5 minutes!! My hubby's beer had head, but mine didn't. For this, I took one star off. Also that pilsner had a bit of a bitter aftertaste. My hubby's had head and tasted better than mine. A little suggestion for the beers: They were placed in different beer glasses. I would recommend putting the beer in the respective breweries' glasses. It would make it easier for the customers to differentiate tha beer. The food came about 10 minutes after being ordered. We ordered the hazmat wings raspberry Chipotle flavour, fries, alarm sprouts, and the mop up pizza - the smallest one. The hazmat wings were on point. It's one of the best wings we've had in a long while. The sauce on it was sweet and spicy. You could taste the raspberry on it. And the meat was juicy and delicious. The fries were delicious. Crispy on the outside and the tender on the inside. Delicious! Alarm sprouts were delicious crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The goat cheese that melted into the sprouts complimented the sprouts. Again, delicious! By that time, we were almost ready to surrender - we were toooo full from the good food. Then our pizza came. It looked fantastic!!! When we ordered it, we were a little unsure. If we were going to like the pizza, this is the first pizza we've ordered in a long whole without a tomato based sauce for a base. It was heavenly!!!! And the eggs on top, those were delicious when eaten with the pizza. It may sound unconventional- but hey, it works!!! My hubby ordered the blonde pale ale after and we liked that better. Also, our server and Chris were amazing. They kept consistently checking on us. I appreciate that. We will be back! Had a very nice lunch today with the wife. As we entered I noticed how wide open it was. Very nice. We both ordered a pilsner. Hers came with no head and tasted flat. Good beer selection, although the menu is good but options are somewhat limited. Also a little pricey, not overly pricey, but more than you would expect for the location and type of bar and restaurant. They do have a happy hour between 2 pm and 4 pm, which is two dollars off beers and menu items. There may be other happy hour options if you ask your server. Also, great, friendly service and nice atmosphere for meeting up with friends. I especially liked the firefighter theming. read more

I love when you find a good bar that has awesome food! This is the spot. You wouldn't know it if you were just driving by as it's in the corner of a small shopping center. Once you're in though the place is full of happy people. The service was great, I put in my order to go and the waiter helped me choose what I wanted. I started off with a saladid but of course it is girl dinner so I added a side of fries. The fries alone are to die for the way that they cut them and fry them and season them. I got a cob salad and it was so big I couldn't even finish it in one sitting! They are very giving on their portion sizes and lots of deliciousness! The only reason I docked it one star is because I went during happy hour but didn't realize I paid full price for my beer while I waited for my food to come out. For a salad a side of fries and one beer with a tip on the beer it came out to almost $40 which is quite pricey for one person on a night out. I'm sure you can get better deals during happy hour and I will return to try other things on the menu! read more

I came in and sat at the bar about 1pm, I wanted to order a pizza to go but the bartender wasn't behind the bar. Another couple came in and sat at the bar about 5-10 minutes after me and when the bartender did show up, she walked right by me and went over and waited on them. I guess they are regulars because she asked them if they wanted their usual beer. They took a while to order because the women couldn't make up her mind on what beer to order. She did finally acknowledge that I was sitting there and I ordered my pizza to go. It took a while and I do know it takes time to make and cook a pizza fresh and I'm ok with that. She made a comment that it takes a while to cook a hand tossed pizza. What I'm not happy about that I grabbed my pizza off the counter and headed out the door, The pizza box wasn't even warm on the bottom, so I know it was sitting in the back waiting for her to pick it up after it was done. You can let her know that I was the one wearing the IOWA pullover! The younger waitress can vouch for the timeline because she kept looking over when she was placing an order by the back door. My husband and I had totally forgotten about this place and happen to remember it when we went to vote yesterday and popped in once we were done there. We always sit at a bar, and we were the only ones at first, but it and the restaurant filled up quickly. It's really nice to see a restaurant in Bonsall doing well. I ordered a Cosmo, yup in Bonsall. It was really great. I might have ordered more than one...oops. My husband got the CPR sandwich and said it was the best sandwich he's had in a long time. I got the Cobb salad. It was so so good, super happy to have found an amazing and fresh salad in Bonsall. Overall this place is a step above other local restaurants, but still super laid back and not stuffy. Just go home from my belated birthday gathering here. We had a large and rather loud group, all of whom have never been here besides me. I have been here many times and know how good the food and service is, but was worried if my friend group would feel the same way as we all have very different tastes. Well, let me tell you that Backdraft did not disappoint! We ordered my usual faves, the brussels, dispatch dip, and the CPR crispy chicken sandwich. My friends also ordered sidewinder fries, bbq wings, and the hot spot with the wasabi mashed and ribeye. Needless to say, there was hardly anything left. Everyone was very impressed with the delicious eats and all of them said that they want to come back soon and try other menu items. One friend suggested we just come next month to celebrate for no reason! We were all down with that. A few other customers moved away from our table, probably because we were being too loud. Oh well, we were just having fun and laughing! The inside is quaint and next time if it's cooler, we said we'd sit outside so we aren't disturbing the others. Thankfully we had a bomb waiter! Josh was just the freaking best! If you come here, ask to be seated in his section! You will not regret it! He was fast with the drinks and constantly checking in on us to see what we needed next and we can be kind of needy, so that was great! That guy needs a raise! I stopped in here after I starved myself for the day (not on purpose, lol). I had just come from that horrid "massage" place a few doors down and needed a drink, too, so this fit the bill since I was too lazy to drive anywhere else. I walked into a half empty restaurant as the dinner rush was just starting to come in. Olivia, the bartender, was very friendly and had a great positive attitude. She took my order and let me sample a few of the beers on tap before I decided on the Abita Strawberry Lager (shocking, I know, lol). I also got the Dispatch Dip and the Defensible Space Pizza. The dip really should have been enough for me, but the lil piggy deep inside of me yearned for that pizza! This is the type of place that makes their own creations, so me being me, HAD to indulge. Was it worth the extra calories? HELL YES!! Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back to try some of their other menu items. The potato pizza looks fire! The dip and pizza were so freakin' lip smacking delish that I literally could have eaten all of it right there. I didn't, though, and I gifted myself a doggy bag so that I could pop the leftovers in my air fryer and pretend it was fresh all over again the next day, lol. We were told to come here by a local (as we were staying in Fallbrook at an Air BnB)...we came early as the reviews looked great. We arrived around 4:30 and glad we did, they were just starting to get busy. We were seated quickly, but seemed to be as they were still cleaning as there was a smell of wet dirty mop water, the waitresses were busy talking about their lives and who had Covid, what they did during the day, all while the lady who was either the manager or owner was sitting at the booth closest to the bar chimed in so we all knew their personal lives. Our waitress was nice. She took our order. Didn't offer any recommendation other than what I asked her which she liked better as I am not a huge meat eater.... My husband ordered the steak, I ordered a pizza. The restaurant filled up fast with families, and older couples (seemed to be regulars) as the manager lady stopped by most of the tables and said hello, but was sure to skip our table. Made us wonder...did she skip us because we were new or just of different ethnicity than everyone else in the restaurant...we were in Bonsall! My husband got his steak. I told him to go ahead and eat as the waitress said "my pizza would be right out"....5 mins later, she said it again....9 mins later...same thing...he was almost half way threw his meal and my pizza came out. I thought it was strange how a pizza is a lot easier to make and cook than a steak, but I didn't want to say anything as the manager made it clear she didn't want to stop by our table! After searching Yelp, hoping to find somewhere new, we discovered Backdraft Bar & Grill and decided to give it a try. It's located it the back corner of a small shopping center. Adequate parking for the different businesses in the center. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly employee and told we could sit wherever we wanted. The place had a nice layout, a lot of four-seater tables that could easily be pulled together for larger groups. Nice comfortable slightly padded seats at each table. We found the place to be about half full already and it had only opened maybe 35-40 minutes before we arrived so that was a good sign. It did end up filling up shortly after our arrival. Found the menu to have a nice variety of appetizers/starters, burgers, sandwiches and pizza. We started out with an order of Blazin' bacon, which was sweet and spicy bacon. It was really good and gave a nice slow burn from whatever spice they used. We'd get it again for sure. We also ordered the Halligan (ham & cheese sandwich). I should add you get to select the bread and cheeses you want on your sandwich, along with the option of having it served hot or cold. It really allows you to customize your sandwich. We also ordered the Jaws of Life (meatball sandwich). I don't know who supplies their bread but the white bread used on the sandwiches is awesome! The owner was doing his rounds, checking on the guests, so I had the opportunity to chat with him for a couple minutes. Learned they have added a good size patio and bar in the back and the back wall is one of those roll up walls so it will really open up the space when that wall/door is rolled open. This place has been on my list of new local spots to try. It was a wet kind of day so...we felt like it was a go it and eat kind of night. Nestled in Bonsall, CA situated in the corner of the strip mall not to far of a walk from the Bonsall Post Office. Upon entering the establishment we were great by a young gentleman who had a striking resemblance of a young Josh Hartnett (I just aged myself). Funny thing is the servers name was J.H. He was very friendly and definitely a people person. He went over the menu with us since it was our first visit and explained some of the his personal favorites and what other patrons have been ordering. As my wife and I are foodies...we already did some menu reconnaissance earlier prior to deciding to go to BACKDRAFT. We were eyeing two pizzas and I let my wife choose and she went with the Mop-Up Pizza...which I thought was a little adventurous. Adventurous? Adventurous! Oh...and the Smoke Alarm Sprouts which our server sold to us...explaining it was a FLAVOR BOMB! As we waited for our food I took a look around at the decor and our server who happened to be in the front explained a little history of BACKDRAFT and how the establishment was a Memorialized Tribute to a fallen Fire Fighter (who was a family member of the owners...if I recall) Stormy McInerny. They even had a wall with Stormy McInerny's photo with a Soecial plaque and Fire Departments have been pinning their patches on that wall! Our food arrived and our server wasn't joking! The Smoke Alarm Sprouts were a burst of incredible flavors (FLAVOR BOMB). It was sweet and tangy + bacon + goat cheese! This is going on our must order again list! I literally wanted to lick the plate...so good! Then the pizza came which smelled yummy as well! Being Filipino I think I'm very adventurous when it comes to eating but I was very surprised when my wife went with the Mop-Up Pizza simply because she knew two over eat eggs would be on top! I love eggs and I love sweet and tangy + olive oil and garlic with a handmade pan Sourdough crust! My wife tried the combination with egg and pizza and it was like eh...but she loved the pizza as its own! I enjoyed the combination but wouldn't say I loved it...I ended up asking the owner where the inspiration of the pizza came from and she said, "Ever had a Carbonara Pasta?" And we were like, "we've heard of it but never had it." But all in all we really enjoyed the flavors of the pizza... Wife thinks it could have been balanced out with some arugula for color and to balance the flavors more...but each is to their own. Overall, our experience was great and we will be coming back again soon! The atmosphere was quiet, even for a bar + grill but then again it was a rainy evening but a good steady flow of patrons came in while we were there. This place is great for small to larger groups! They have lots of TV's and the staff was very personable. We love the theme and the inspiration of the restaurant. Without knowing Stormy...I feel like he would have loved the place.
