Tried the Burger Bench in Vista with my friend a week or two ago and it was a great experience all around! The restaurant has a very open feeling, with lots of space and high ceilings. There's a patio, bar area, and table and booth seating. We ordered 3 sliders and onion rings to share. The sliders were 1) mushroom & Swiss, 2) Smokehouse BBQ, and 3) classic cheeseburger. Each of the sliders was unique and very flavorful, with well-seasoned beef patties and recognizable flavor profiles. My favorite was actually the mushroom & Swiss. The onion rings almost stole the show for me, believe it or not. They were some of the best onion rings I've ever had--light and tasteful breading, perfectly succulent onions. WOW!! I've heard rave reviews about this place, and I finally understand why! It's DELICIOUS! Located in downtown Vista, there's ample free parking nearby. Upon entering, you place your order at the counter, receive a number, and find a seat. The experience is smooth and the staff is incredibly friendly. Visited on 06/07/26 and had a good lunch. I'm rating a 4, but anywhere else I'd probably rate a 3, but it's a vista 4 and our community desperately needs spots like this. I loved that they had sliders since it was our first time we could try multiple burgers. The chicken was the star of the show for me and we both felt like the chorizo and mushroom burger were forgettable. I'm docking a star for how over priced the fries were for the portion. I went here on May 3rd, 2025. I like the ordering style but I don't like that need to dash for a table if there is one available if you go with another person or group. The drinks are good and I greatly appreciate that. I ordered the wings, but forgot the flavor and got the green cilantro sauce. I love that green sauce so much! The sliders were good as well. Celiacs rejoice!!! Burger bench not only has gluten free options but a GLUTEN FREE FRYER!! I am so happy to add a restaurant into my repertoire. The young woman working the cashier was so knowledgeable and helpful and kind about my gluten free requests and helped me navigate cross contact and every condiment. She was very attentive to my needs. I had a classic burger with bacon and truffle tots. The tots are big enough to share. My gluten eating family enjoyed the smokehouse burger and kids sliders. The vibe check was perfection: a 2004/2005 playlist (think The Strokes, Jimmy Eat World), the food looked picture perfect and everything was clean. I've been here twice now. Both on a weekday around lunch and this place has been excellent. The food is delicious the portions are great and the tots are the best I think I've ever had. I wish I wasn't on a lunch break because I would have been able to comment on the beer! The service is self order, but friendly and the food came quick. Each time it's been hot, cooked properly, and subs or exclusions have been correct. I love the feel of this place too! They play GREAT music! The only thing I wish they'd change is the doors inside the women's restroom! Every time I walk in I am caught off guard because it looks like there's people just standing in the dark! It was pretty busy that day, but we still got our food quickly, and everything was super tasty. Located in Vista Village, it's a much more expansive space than their Escondido restaurant, but with all of their charm intact! You order at the counter and they bring out the food to you. I got the Swiss mushroom burger with an Impossible patty (so juicy and cheesy and mushroomy), the hubby got the Black bean burger with cheese (a great option for vegetarians who don't necessarily want something that tastes like meat), and our friend got the grilled cheese with bacon--a decadent delight. We got an order of their perfectly crisp tots to share, with sriracha aioli. No beer for us this time, but they always have a great selection of SD beers. It was a beautiful day to dine alfresco on their front patio, especially nice for our friend's dog. Note: they only allow service dogs indoors, but the patio is fine for all pups. I would say that this popular spot is going to be more popular as they serve the variety of burgers, both hot chicken and beef patties that are mixed in with your usual suspects the mushroom and Swiss. What makes them different is they have these mini sliders and it helps you take the mini bites of a variety out there different burgers which I think it's a smart innovative idea that paired with their french fries onion rings and tater tots you have this old school feel. I got the grilled chicken with bacon and it was delicious and you could substitute and add anything you want. I would say the service was great and the ambience was pretty nice too. Really wanted a chicken sandwich so ordered pick up from this place and got the Golden Rooster burger. It's honestly pretty solid, feels like a healthier version of a chicken sandwich. The chicken was a good size. I think the burger could've used a sauce, it wasn't super flavorful. The apples in it were also an interesting touch but I didn't hate it. I ended up putting canes sauce on it which made it a lot better. The burger came out to ~$15 too which I think was pretty expensive for it. I come from Escondido where there is also a Burger Bench, so I was happy to see one here. ordered the black bean burger on gluten free bread, and my boyfriend went with the Sunrise Burger and a side of tots -- everything was really good. The black bean patty was flavorful, and the gluten free bread held up really well. The only thing was the black bean burger did turn to mush as i was eating it - but thats kind of to be expected since its vegetarian. The Sunrise Burger was drfinitely my favorite, and the tots were perfectly crispy. You order at the counter first and then they bring the food out to your table -- our food came out really quickly. There was plenty of seating available, which made it easy to find a comfortable spot even on a Friday night. We went after the sun had gone down, and since the space has an open-air layout, it definitely got a bit chilly -- something to keep in mind if you're visiting later in the day. Thanks to a fellow Yelpie, I found this newly opened Burger bench. There's a large sign that says Finally Open! They also have a sign at the counter to have patience with them. With that said, this place rocks! The parking even on a Thursday night was challenging. They revamped a mechanics garage into a ultra modern eatery. Service was great! Everyone was super helpful. My favorites: smokehouse burger slider, onion rings with garlic aioli sauce, Salted Caramel Pretzel shake (yummy!), truffle tater tots. Who doesn't feel validated when you pick a place to eat, and everyone enjoys it? I got three different sliders: Grilled Chicken, Smokehouse, and Golden Rooster. For my beverage, I had an iced oat milk latte. I loved how strong it was. We all had a great time thanks to the restaurant's atmosphere and staff. There was a small hiccup when I ordered. You place your order at the cashier, and mine was accidentally marked as to-go. No worries, though. It was a quick fix, and the food was still great. There's plenty of parking around the restaurant. I have say I've past by this joint quite a few times but never ventured in until a few days ago when I had a burger craving and my hubby suggested we try something new. We walked in and didn't realize how big this restaurant was. It's an order at the front, grab a number, sit down and wait for your food to be delivered to you kind of place. Well, we ordered the following: classic burgers with cheese, Parmesan truffle tater tots, Brie & fig sando, and a root beer float. The food came out faster than I expected. The burgers and everything else we ordered were fabulous. The burgers were juicy, the tots were crispy with a lot of flavor, and the most surprising item that I can't seem to get out of my head was the Brie and fig sandwich. The bread was crispy and light but what shocked me was the crisp green apple inside the sandwich that gave it another level of crunch and a tartness to counter balance the sweet and salty flavors going on in that sando. The vista store has basically the same menu so I thought it could be a good choice to pay Vista a visit. The staff were so friendly and smiling the whole time. My new friend and I both ordered The 3 Slider Sampler. 14.90ea. Nine different Sliders to choose from. He ordered his with the hand cut fries and I ordered mine with The In-house Onion Rings. Both fries and rings were tasty with a nice serving size. For my three slider choices I went with, The Smokehouse, The Swiss Mushroom, and The Fig Jam. All three were nice and juicy with great favor. I would do them again. I just wanted to sample three different ones so next time I'll get the Full Size Flavor Version. To wash them down I ordered The Hand Made Oreo Shake $8.20 Very Good super creamy and flavorful. Yum. Both the Vista and Escondido Locations are worth a visit. The best burger spot in Vista! So far people in my family have tried: the sunrise burger (the best one on the menu, hands down), the mushroom Swiss, the taco burger, and the chorizo diablo, and the patty melt. As I said the Sunrise is a fan favorite, but each burger we have tried so far has been so delicious! We are big fans of the ranch here as well as the chipotle sauce and garlic aioli. All the sides are wonderful, but we prefer the truffle fries and truffle tots. A note on the sides: you for sure can share one side between two people, they are generous portions! We did try the chicken bites and didn't love them, but also didn't hate them either. But I would say come for the burger versus their chicken options. We have a few other burgers we want to try before moving onto the salads and desserts, but we love coming here when we have a burger craving! As for the service and vibes: everyone is so nice and attentive, they clean up after everyone very well and are all around friendly. So happy Burger Bench's second location has finally opened in Vista! We came opening week and they did not disappoint. While the place was packed and there was a line out the door, it moved fast and tables are turned over relatively quickly (as well as ample bar seating). We ordered a lot - even with three vegetarians. We got the grilled cheese, fig and brie melt, veggie melt and then a burger. In addition we got truffle tots, regular tots, a chocolate shake and an Oreo shake. There wasn't a crumb left.l on the table when we were done. While everything is fantastic I swear you could come here just for the tots and a shake.. they're absolutely delicious. And hot tip - order one of the special sauces for the tots! I got the bench burger and my wife got the turkey burger lettuce wrapped. We also split an order of truffle Parm tots. All of it was amazing and reasonably priced. The lettuce wrap was nice because they used a lot of lettuce to wrap the burger. Some lettuce wraps just fall apart and this held together. I like to support local, family-owned spots, and the ratings here looked good. My wife & I were craving a burger, so we gave it a try. Unfortunately, after our first visit, it'll probably be our last. The burger was cooked all the way through (no option to choose doneness) and came out well done. The brioche bun, something I usually love, tasted a bit dry and definitely past its prime. The Parmesan truffle fries seemed like frozen fries topped with Parmesan and truffle oil, not much flavor and nothing memorable. My daughter ordered a vanilla milkshake, which had a plasticky, freezer-burn kind of taste. We thought it might be the oversized plastic straw. The staff was super nice about taking it back, but when they brought another, without a straw, it tasted the same. The place itself is cute, with great decor and the staff was friendly. But for about $50 for two adults and a kid, the food just didn't match the price point. They've got a nice spot, but the details need more attention to make it worth returning. read more
