My favorite Chinese place in Tucson. 25 years ago I lived pretty nearby but now I rarely make it this far southeast. Was in the area today and stopped for an early dinner with the fam. Still so good! And very nice service- attentive but not overbearing. Hot and sour is still spot on and my favorite, the chicken salad appetizer is outstanding as always. The dressing is fantastic - tangy and complements the other flavors. This salad looks basic but it's so good! We also had fried tofu, dumplings, ho fun, and cashew chicken. Large portions and very yum. I miss the old fish tanks but the decor is fresher and very neat. I'll definitely be back! read more

Called in a lunch order, it was ready in 10-15 minutes ready when I got there. Friendly and quick check-out service. The food was so fresh and delicious! We got Sesame Chicken, BBQ pork fried rice, Egg flower soup, and an egg roll and then a separate order of Beef Fried Rice. The portions were generous and fit the price. The food was delicious, got and fresh. The soup was yummy. The egg roll was cooked well and their sweet and sour sauce was spot on. I definitely recommend it. It is just as I remembered. My wife ordered the Vegetable Delight and I ordered General Tso Chicken. My wife's plate arrived at the table 5 minutes before mine. Does she eat while I watch? We both agreed the fried rice was mediocre. My chicken was good with the right amount of spice. Wife's vegetable's had a very salty sauce that was barely edible. We returned it. What really impressed me about Ba- Dar was how fresh and tasty the preparations were. I ordered almond chicken, which was made with high quality white meat chicken and fresh vegetables. My wife had a delicious sliced fish with peas and ginger sauce, and the fish was fresh, and the preparation very flavorful. The portions were very generous, each enough for two meals. The need for an abundance of caution during this COVID-19 crisis has made ordering food become the norm. Ba-dar delivers... literally and in the execution of their food. They have a really large menu so, if you can't find something you like, well... Chinese food is just not your thing. If you have a tender palate, and don't like spicy food, try the BBQ pork chow fun. The wide, flat rice noodles looked like they would be bland, but they weren't. The dish had a lot of flavor and plenty of thinly sliced pork. I wanted to try it in it's original state, but next time I will ask for it spicy. They can make any dish spicy at your request. Speaking of spicy... it was hard not to order my go-to dish from Ba-dar, Eight Jewel Blossom. It's one of their signature dishes... and it's easy to see why. Chicken, beef and shrimp swim in harmony with water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, bean curd and peanuts in a very flavorful, spicy sauce. I mean, if you you are a Chinese food fan, like me, what's not to like about this dish? The more you spend on your order the more free stuff you get, i.e. spend 25 bucks and get free crab rangoons. How cool is getting free stuff for food you're going to order anyway? They use fresh ingredients and delivery is fast and dependable. Ordered string beans with pork strips and pork with broccoli. Egg flower soup was very salty. Egg roll tasty but very greasy. Rangoon nice! Fried rice just fine. Plentiful portions on entrees. Pork with broccoli was fragrant and tasty. Green beans were disappointing- arrived with no pork strips and garlic very prominent. Overall ok experience but expensive for what it is. read more

Thank you owners... If it wasn't for you, I would of never felt satisfied in Tucson. I love the people who work here, they are extremely friendly and helpful. Food is really good. I've only found peppered beef done this way at one other Chinese place ever, and sadly that place lost their lease. But this place has it perfectly. I could eat it everyday. I like their deal, add $3.50 for a few apps and a cup of soup. Much better deal instead of trying to find a family meal with items we actually like. My hubs wasn't as in love as I was, he says it's good and will be fine going again. And they have sangria! read more

I have reasons i would want to rate this place a 4 star, but everything amounted to a mixed experience. I had the Sizzling Hong Kong Pepper Steak and Crispy Squid. The squid was cooked to a perfect texture and paired well with the thinly chopped cabbage. However, the dehydrated onion/garlic flakes were way too salty. I understand and know that this is often the case with this dish but in a restaurant setting and for the price i paid i would have preferred they pan fry minced onion/garlic instead which would have delivered better flavor and not so much saltiness. The Sizzling Pepper steak was... Not sizzling. It was served on a sizzle plate but there was no visual/audible sizzle. The steak and peppers were cooked well but, it did not have much peppercorn or black pepper flavor that i would have liked. Service is young and energetic but not perfect. They shine in some areas and not others. For example, there were only two or three occupied tables and it still took 15-20min for me to be seated. Albeit they seem to be very popular with pickup orders. It also took quite a long time to get a boba slushie to go. Iwill return one more time to try their more unique items like fish/seafood but doubt i will be a repeat customer afterwards. read more

After seeing it's 4 star rating, Ba Dar easily became our next Chinese restaurant to try in my quest to find the best in town. So we schlepped ourselves all the way over to the east side to give it a try. Ba Dar is a nice, clean establishment with traditional Chinese restaurant ambience. They offer an Early Bird menu for those who prefer eating at 4:30pm (available till 5:30pm actually), as well as a traditional Mandarin/ Cantonese/ Hunan dinner menu. Whereas most Chinese restaurants offer a full dinner including appetizer, soup and rice along with your choice of entree from a predetermined list; Ba Dar lets you choose any entree from the menu and make it a complete dinner for only $3.50 additional. Another nice difference is that the egg roll and fried rice included with the dinner actually contain meat! The waitstaff at Ba Dar are very friendly and helpful. Whenever I visit a new Chinese restaurant I always ask if they can prepare my favorite dishes if they are not on the menu. Usually I ask about cold sesame noodles and Schezuan shrimp (shrimp with hot chili sauce for you fans of Iron Chef Japan). Most of the restaurants in Tucson have not been willing to go off menu but Ba Dar seemed eager to accommodate me. When I enquired regarding the shrimp dish, they were unaware of it but after some explanation they pointed out that their Hunan Shrimp had basically the same sauce I described but included more vegetables. I went with it. After a few minutes our soups arrived. The hot and sour soup was quite good - one of the few I haven't had to add additional vinegar. My wife had the egg drop soup and said it was quite good as well. Our appetizers arrived next - pork eggrolls and crab rangoon. While these weren't the same type of eggrolls available in the NYC area, nonetheless they were good. Nice and crispy and not too greasy. The rangoons were very good as well. Not the usual lumps of cream cheese inside a soggy deep fried wrapper. These were tasty, crisp, and may have actually contained crabmeat. Shortly after finishing our appetizers the main courses arrived. At this point let me point out another positive point - each of the courses actually arrived after we'd finished the previous course. I know it doesn't sound like much but this is getting rarer and rarer. Too many times our main courses arrive either at the same time or within a few minutes of the appetizer. Anyhow, we received our entrees and they were very good. The food was fresh, hot and the portions quite generous. The Hunan Shrimp had plenty of shrimp and fresh veggies. My wife's Lemon Chicken was fresh with bite sized balls of fried chicken breast covered in a light lemony and appropriately sweet sauce. This wasn't the normal sickly sweet pile of utility chicken bits. The entrees included a bowl of freshly prepared pork fried rice. While short on veggies, the rice was nonetheless quite good. So far, Ba Dar leads my list as far as traditional American Chinese restaurants go. I'm eager to return in order to try more of their dishes. If everything is the same quality as our meal you won't go wrong here. read more

This is my favorite fast Chinese in town. Take out is really where it's at. They offer free items depending on how much you spend, so I always factor in a fried rice, low mein, or just some crab rangoon on the house. For the adventurous types they have an 'authentic' menu. Everything they serve is in general what you would expect, so you'll never be unhappy. That being said I recommend the 'Green Onion Egg Fried Rice', most people get the loaded fried rice, but this is a treat and a can't miss.
