For over 50 years, I have used a variety of tradespeople to work on my home and on rental properties that I own. Up to this point, I have found only 2 or 3 companies who have performed up to my standards (which are admittedly rather high) and so I am not comfortable making recommendations because I don't want people to be angry at me because of a bad experience with a company that I recommended.
That said, I am, without reservation or qualification, recommending Bob Wilkins from BW Heating & Air to anyone who needs a new heating and/or air conditioning system. Bob seems to know everything there is to know about HVAC systems which is truly rare these days. (It doesn't hurt that he has a degree in marine engineering and has 30 years of experience!!) He is a true engineer in the sense that he starts by working with the customer to define the desired goals, he carefully analyzes the situation, he identifies the constraints, he designs the system to meet the desired goals and then he installs the system within the constraints. As an engineer myself, I greatly appreciated the fact that Bob was more than willing to explain why he selected the components to be used and why he chose to install the system in the manner that he was proposing. In short, there is no BS when you are dealing with Bob!! (I can absolutely say that this was not the case with other HVAC companies that we spoke to!!)
In our case, we were removing an older system from the second floor hallway and installing a new furnace/air conditioning unit in the attic. Needless to say, this was not an insignificant project!!
Bob's workmanship is akin to that of an artist. I closely watched him work during the time he was here and I was in awe of how precise he is with every aspect of the installation. His attention to detail is simply amazing. He is as much of a perfectionist as I am!! It was no surprise to anyone that the system fired up without a hitch and performed just as expected.
An unexpected bonus of using Bob was that, during his inspection of the attic, he observed some flawed ductwork from a previous installation that was causing poor air circulation in the master bedroom. At no additional charge, he removed the flawed ductwork and installed the ducts of the proper size which significantly improved the air flow. I don't know of any other HVAC contractor that would be that observant.
The most surprising aspect of doing business with BW Heating & Air was their price which was actually $1,500 less than what was quoted by another HVAC company who was proposing far less of a solution to our needs.
Finally, I think the best reason for using Bob is that he is one of the nicest and most gracious individuals that I have the pleasure to encounter. You simply cannot go wrong using BW Heating & Air to install your heating/air conditioning system. read more
