Honest. They installed a new furnace for us and did a professional job, arriving on time and cleaning up after they were finished.

John is trustworthy and outstanding. He does not try to upsell. He can get busy. Highly recommend.

John is amazing and does great work. He is efficient and always responds to emergencies. He has fair prices. I highly recommend HARTVICKSON A/C and Heating. read more

Highly recommend. John is an honest guy not looking to upsell you. Responded right away even though we didn't have an HVAC emergency. Came and evaluated the problem and even recommended we could hold off on fixing it. Definitely will call him again when it comes time to replace our heating and air conditioning. Don't hesitate, give him a call if you need something fixed. read more

Honestly told us what we needed and didn't need. This time around he adjusted something small but important at no charge, letting us know the upkeep. 100% we will call them back if and when we have issues. read more

John Hartvickson is a great HVAC guy! He replaced my ancient A/C unit with a new one. The new unit is quiet and efficient... and the cost was less than I had expected. He was on-time, friendly and efficient. I would definitely hire John again in the future. read more

Was helpful initially however when I called again with a problem he never returned my call.

I can't express how thankful we are that John helped our air conditioning needs. He installed a mini split in our master bedroom. We could never get the room cold and in livable conditions. Now with this super sleek unit our room is amazing. Nice cool air and it's dramatically reduced our PG&E bill. We don't have to air condition our whole house just to get air in our master bedroom. Thanks John!! Highly recommended!!! read more

Amazing service! Very prompt in responding. Highly recommend, both of the John's were wonderful!

John is a GREAT independent heating and air conditioning guy. Reliable, honest, friendly and knowledgeable. Have used him for installation and repair. read more

John responded quickly to our request to help fix our A/C in the middle of a heat wave in Summer 2022. He suggested reasonable options to replacement and he was right on. The big companies only want to replace the unit and aren't interested in stop gap solutions. We trust John and we know the replacement day will eventually happen, so he will be the one we call. read more

John installed heat and ac for us a few years ago. It's has made the cold winters and hot summers enjoyable compared to our old wall furnace. He doesn't try to upsell you like the other guys, which is refreshing. I would highly recommend him! read more

John was excellent!!! He tried to walk us through checking some things on the phone, but I had no idea what my husband had done. He came out the same day and it ended up being our furnace which he replaced a couple days later. His pricing was very fair and he let our dog say hi. Thankfully it was BEFORE this awful heatwave, but it was still hot and we were suffering. Highly recommend! read more

Just thought I'd write a follow-up, since John has gone above and beyond to follow-up with me. When John repaired our a/c last year, we understood that it was a quick fix that may not hold, but would save us a lot of money if it did. The repair did hold, and the a/c has worked fine. I just received a call from John advising that the a/c should be checked again now (instead of waiting until the first heat wave when everyone discovers their a/c is NOT working) to make sure it's still running properly. Honestly, I wouldn't have thought to check it before it gets hot. I own a business and deal with customers and vendors all day long. You very rarely find this kind of customer service, and I can't recommend Hartvickson heating & Air Conditioning highly enough. read more

John Hartvickson is the best in the HVAC Contractor in the business. For years I've experienced unscrupulous HVAC contractors who have: 1. inspected my furnace by disassembling the burner then telling me it was too risky to put back together and tried to sell me a new unit. 2. reversing a wire and telling me the furnace was broken...a second opinion by another HVAC revealed that the wires were tampered with. 3. showing me a pic of a section of hot air ducting chewed thru by rodents, and that same contractor previously showed me a charred fiberglass pad and told me I was lucky the furnace didn't start a fire...I called on John to come out to check my system, and he told me those conditions did not exist. John Hartvickson is the most honest and principled HVAC contractor you will ever find, and not someone putting profits ahead of a job well done. read more

This company did an outstanding job at our house. We had the furnace and air conditioner replaced and Hartvickson re-routed our ducting to improve air upstairs. I recommend them to anyone. Good value for the cost. read more

What a wonderful, friendly businessman. Highly recommend. Installed new heating and air conditioning to our 1951 Holbrook Heights home. We are very satisfied customers and homeowners! Left us for the three day weekend with the unit in running condition for the heat of this Labor Day Weekend. Thank you so much for the efficient install and friendly, personable service. read more

Air conditioner was causing the circuit to trip. Called John Hartvickson as he was highly recommended by people in a local FB group. He came and immediately looked at the fuse box and found what he thought to be a wiring issue. He tightened and we hoped for the best, it has now been running for the last week and we are super happy. Any service person could have done additional work and run up repairs, including trying to replace my 15 year old unit. John is honest and I highly recommend him. read more

Here is a summary of my attempt to talk to some guy named John there. 1. Were in telephone tag for three day. 2, When I spoke with John to ask about the pricing and how it worked, we got disconnected after the first question. 3. When I phone back immediately, John answered and angrily told me that he did not have time to answer every customer's questions. He told me not to bother him any more and hung up. You can draw you own conclusions, but this company representative was not only unprofessional but he was also rude. I'll try to find a real professional that does not take out his bad day on a customer looking for expertise. read more

Hartvickson was referred to us by a good contractor friend who has worked with John in the past. Our floor heater went out and we decided to upgrade to new central air and heating. His quote was about the same as others, but we decided to go with John. We are so very happy with our whole experience. The system works well in our home. John did everything he said he would. Very professional, all was cleaned up as he went along. He updated us as to what we should expect during the project. He had to change a couple of his days out and he called to let us know about the changes, so there was no surprises. I recommend John Hartvickson, if you are looking to install a heating and air conditioning system. Thank you John, Bill and Lana read more

Great service. Called him with a broken a/c in the middle of a very hot day & he was at my house fixing my a/c within an hour. Reasonable prices too. read more

We have called John three times over 10 years. He has always been careful and reasonably priced. During the last heat wave (July 2017), our A/C broke down. He offered to guide me through the likely fix via phone, since he was booked up by dozens of calls. I declined. It took him several days to get to our house, as he advised us it would. He did the repair job in about an hour on a Sunday. We would wait for him again, because he is reliable and reasonably priced. read more

Pro: Scheduled weekend appointment was no (extra) charge. Con: Recommended costly (unnecessary) repairs, then claimed local laws required testing for CO2 leaks, which was false / incorrect information. The air conditioning unit quit working in one of my rental homes. The Property Management company dispatched a repairman who diagnosed the problem to be the Converter. I contacted John Hartvickson to get a second opinion & bid for the repair. To his credit, John returned my call promptly and scheduled an appointment for the upcoming weekend, stating there would be no additional charge for weekend service. John did not mention any 'diagnostic' or 'service fee' for the call, and therefore non was agreed to prior to the service call. John contacted me while onsite and informed me that not only was the Converter bad, but his recommendation was to replace the entire furnace (the Converter is a component in the furnace) at a cost of $1800. He further informed me that Local Laws REQUIRED him to preform a CO2 leak test when replacing the Converter, and that if any leaks were detected in the test, he would be required to condemn the entire central air conditioning and heating unit. I had him explain that one to me again, in detail, because I knew from my discussions with the other repair company that a CO2 test was neither required or necessary with the replacement of the Converter unit. When I informed John of this, he immediately became angry and aggressively rude, yelling into the phone that he had plenty of other calls scheduled and didn't have time for this 'bull ****'. He then informed me that if I didn't want him to repair the unit, I would owe him $150 for his 'diagnostic fee'. I was in a state of shock with his sudden rudeness and I reminded him that; 1) there was no agreement up-front for this charge and 2) I believed he was providing false, inaccurate and misleading information, and that I refused to pay him for such. John immediately hung up the phone on me. Approx. 30 minutes later, I received an irate call from his wife, who screamed obscene words at me for for a full 2-minutes because I refused to pay for his 'diagnostic fee'. In all, a completely unprofessional encounter which will not be repeated. Since I found Hartvickson Heating & Air Conditioning here on Yelp and made the decision to call him based on the reviews here, I feel I needed to leave my review for others. To conclude, a licensed repair company replaced the Converter for $250 parts & labor and no further repair was needed or recommended by this company. I will be leaving this company a positive review. read more

I called John after another company gave us a quote and I wanted to get a second opinion. I liked John from the first moment I spoke to him on the phone. Long story short, first company told me I had two options. First would be $680, second would be $1800. John quoted $425 for exactly the same service as the first option from other company. In the end we payed $175 because John found another way to fix our problem.Flipping fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honesty, Intergrity and Great Service is what John seems to be all about. please call Hartvickson Heating and Air!!!!! I would recommend John to everyone read more

Very reliable, fair and dependable! John is as honest as they come and will give you the facts. He has helped so many families in a pinch and even when things breakdown on you at the worst times, even weekends, he will be there. Highly recommend! read more

I used Hartvickson Heating & Air Conditioning last year, on the recommendation of an acquaintance, and am so glad I did! I called Hartvickson after another HVAC service company (recommended by a neighbor) came out and looked at my rooftop AC unit and told me the necessary repairs would cost $600. I balked at their diagnosis and price (I'll probably post a separate review about the company down the road; I've temporarily blotted their name from my memory; need to look up my old invoices), and went looking for other recommendations -- and thank god I did. Hartvickson came out at the scheduled time, clambered up on the roof of the two-story condo building (almost a three-story rise, not everyone's favorite thing to climb up on), came back down, told me what part seemed to be the problem, popped in a replacement part, and the HVAC has worked fine, in blazing-hot Walnut Creek summers or during the chilliest winter nights, ever since. And all for about ONE-THIRD of the price quoted by the other company. Too bad I didn't have this company's name from the gitgo, but even after I paid the initial service call by the weirdo company, Hartvickson still saved me a bundle in the long run. Save yourself some time, money and frustration and call Hartvickson first. read more

We called John when our furnace died in the middle of January. He came out the next day to give us an estimate, which was very competitive, and the day after that to install our new furnace. John was friendly and professional, and not only got our new furnace installed and working, but he made sure to cover anything unsightly and left us with a very neat clean looking furnace (in the garage, but still, it's nice that it looks nice). He even helped us to resolve an issue with the thermostat after the furnace was installed. I recommend Hartvickson Heating & Air Conditioning without hesitation, and I know that we won't even consider calling anyone else if we need repairs or replacement in the future. read more

John was simply excellent! He was prompt. And found that it was a simple fix! Didn't charge me or make me feel like an idiot! :) Clearly my issue was something uber simple which I probably could've figured out on my own, but I had feared the worst. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! read more

I was told by a young charming technician from another company that my duct work was chewed through by rodents and was in need of replacement. Hartvickson Heating and Air always comes out quickly for service and maintenance. (Only $125 for a basic service visit... he'll even put that toward the repairs if he finds anything that needs work) He was able to save me a ton of money on my install and was very easy to work with. He treats his customers like family and is extremely fair and honest. You can't find another HVAC company with the level of service that John provides. The reviews were spot on 100%! I called John after recommendations from locals. He called me back immediately and remedied the issue right off the bat. Unfortunately we couldn't get an appointment same day but that didn't matter. After following his instructions my husband and I worked together to resolve the issue. No need for a visit or labor costs. John is the real deal and does not blow smoke. He was professional, to the point, and had an immediate resolution. Part only cost us $45 and we are back on track to having our house cold again. Thank you so much for your expertise. Highly recommend Hartvickson Heating and Air Conditioning!! The best!! read more

Our air conditioning unit was not cooling our house. John responded to us right away, suggesting a couple of things we could try ourselves. Sooooooo if you are in need of anything to do with your heating or air conditioning, don't hesitate to give John a call. He is as honest and reliable as anyone that you could want. read more

Wouldn't you know it, my a/c gave out on one of the hottest days of the summer and on a weekend no less. I called H.H.A.C. on Saturday morning at 10:00 am and he was at my house at 3:30 the same day, on a Saturday. I thought for sure I was going to need a new unit because mine is 25 years old. Much to my surprise and delight i only needed to replace the filters and an obscure fuse. What about the bill you may ask? HHAC told me to call him if I still had a problem and wished me a Happy July 4th. This story speaks for itself. read more

Wish I could give 10 stars! I called Hartvickson Heating & A/C after my air conditioner stopped working. I left a message, and John returned my call, leaving a message as to possible solutions and said to call again if the problem didn't resolve.
