Went for dinner with family. Server was pleasant and efficient. We had special dietary needs and she made sure those were understood and met. The food was hot and very tasty and made to the spice levels we requested. She had glasses for the wine we brought and made sure to check back between courses. Had Chicken Dumplings & Chicken Pad Thai, fried rice GF entree, Beef Pad Thai and 2 soups. The background music was quiet but enjoyable. I have been there twice in the last month for lunch and dinner. It is really good now. Whomever is cooking and preparing is doing it as well as any Thai restaurant around. This restaurant is a nice spot for a casual dinner. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The food is great at a reasonable price. I highly recommend the steamed Thai dumplings. It is a small and quiet restaurant. It was not very busy when I went tonight, maybe it gets busier on the weekends, so it was kind of quiet but the owner played music for us. I was in Caldwell the other day and needed some lunch. Didn't want pizza, thought about a pub (burger)-then decided...Thai. I had Bangkok Kitchen on my Bookmark list for a very long time and it was time to give them a shot. The place seemed nice enough-not a lot of fancy decor, but nice. I was greeted from across the restaurant by a waitress/cashier and was told to sit anywhere. Since there was only one other table occupied I grabbed one by the front window and checked out the menu. Normally, the first time at a Thai place I will try Pad Thai or a red curry meal...I went crazy today (that's sarcasm) and ordered one of their 'Box" meals. Spicy Basil Chicken, a fried dumpling, Jasmine rice, a spring roll, and a fried banana (dessert) and a Thai iced tea. The meal was very good. I absolutely loved the Basil Chicken-had a nice kick to it without being overly spicy (next time I'll get it a little spicier) and there were nice sized chunks of chicken. The fried dumpling was a little overcooked (too crispy), but tasted great and the spring roll was a bit small. When the waitress brought the meal over I thought to myself, 'self, this isn't enough food...you're HUNGRY'. When I finished I realized that I have to stop listening to my stomach when it's speaking to me and calling me 'self' because it was a perfect portion size. The little fried banana (inside a spring roll wrap I think) covered with cream and a berry compote was really tasty...even if I wanted more. The only part of the meal that was a little weak was the tea. I love Thai iced tea and this one just seemed a little watered down and didn't have the flavor I was expecting. I'm really glad I stopped into Bangkok Kitchen. I'll be in Caldwell a lot and it's nice to know I have a great Thai place like this to eat at when my stomach starts talking to me again... read more

I've been back twice since my last review (this is my boyfriend's favorite restaurant in the Caldwell area) - and I'm going to have to add another star to my review. My favorites so far have been the lemongrass soup and the pad khing. Make sure to leave room for dessert - I'd suggest either the green tea ice cream or the fried bananas. Why I'm giving it more than 3 stars: the food has always been exceptionally fresh, the portions have always been more than enough, and the service has always been wonderful every time we've went. There is one guy that waits all the tables in the restaurant and he does such a great job at accommodating everyone in a timely manner. read more

I'm so disappointed. My family and I stopped in here for dinner craving Thai food. I ordered my favorite green curry dish, but it had floating bits in it as though the coconut milk had gone bad, and there was little flavor to it. Worse, my rice had random chunks of hard rice in it as though they reconstituted old rice. The other dishes at the table were mediocre at best. I will say the service was good, but it could not make up for bad food. We will not be returning. read more

This used to be a fave spot of mine (and company) but I believe the management/cook has changed. The food is completely different --not in a good way either! I had beef basil and the basil sauce had the consistency of syrup with a weird taste. I did not eat even 1/2 the plate. It used to be hopping with folks and now, its almost always empty. I love Thai food. That being said, Bangkok Kitchen let me down. We came with friends and ordered a bunch of plates for the table. For appetizers we tried the Grilled Beef Salad, Shrimp Salad, and Steamed Dumplings. The salads were authentically spiced, but lacked the crunchy bite you normally get with similar Thai salads. The steamed dumplings were forgettable. For dinner we ordered the Pad Thai, Bronzini Mediteranean Sea Bass, and the Saute'ed Shrimp & Scallop with Asparagus. The Pad Thai (in my opinion, should be the bread-and-butter of a Thai place), was bland, and lacked the peanuts, tofu, and egg. Instead, the oily noodles and couple pieces of chicken was all we got for $10.95. The Bronzini was very good. The whole fried fish with sweet chili sauce was tasty. It was a wise choice to order the sauce on the side, as it can easily overpower the flavor of the fish. The Saute'ed Shrimp and Scallops did not have a lot of shrimp and scallops. Instead, the plate was filled with cheap vegetables and rice. This was a common theme with every dish. For dessert we ordered the Mango and Sticky rice. This should always be a slam dunk, but instead the rice was dry and the dish lacked flavor. I would have given Bangkok kitchen 2 stars, but added another for BYOB. I would not go back and would not recommend as there are better dining alternatives in the area. read more

I think it's safe to say this is my favorite thai restaurant in the area. I absolutely LOVE the ambiance - I believe one of the owners actually designed the tables and some of the main pieces in there. The red walls against candle light make for a warm and inviting meal. Foodwise? Everything I've tried has been a WIN. From the pad thai, pineapple fried rice, massamun curry, to green curry - absolutely FANTASTIC and my go-to thai place. I recommend Bangkok Kitchen 1000x times over. It's family owned and you def. feel like you know whose serving you dinner when you've gone there more than once. read more

Was visiting a college friend in the area and like me she has celiac disease and took me to this charming little restaurant. She told me the owner also has Celiac and asked for the gluten free menu as we had a busy day planned. We both had pad Thai with shrimp added. It was a quick lunch, so I didn't get a chance to really explore the menu. The pad Thai was perfect. The smells from the other dishes were amazing. My friend eats here all the time and loves it. All in all, it ended up being a great decision! The food is absolutely fine, but not on par with some of the better Thai restaurants, should you only travel a few miles on Bloomfield Ave. The food is fresh, the portion sizes generous, and the service more than acceptable. It's a good Thai restaurant for those looking for a quick fix while wanting to stay as local as possible. It's not really a destination restaurant, as they just aren't doing any particular thing on an exceptional level. Like most restaurants of its ilk in north NJ, it's BYOB which helps keep the price point down. While there are a handful of smaller lots nearby, parking will most likely have to take place on the street. read more

Sweeter than the red curry, which my friend ordered. I thought the red curry was slightly better. Found a hair in my pad thai noodles and they gave me another one - fine... but it tasted like they made it with ketchup. It was overly sweet, and not like any decent Pad Thai noodle that I've ever had before. I guess we shouldn't have ignored that giant B rating in the window. Definitely won't be returning. read more

Hubby and I stopped here for dinner one night with the kids. While the food was delicious, service was SLOW. There happened to be a car show in Caldwell that night, so I suspect they weren't expecting it to be so busy. That said, one waitress for the entire place doesn't seem right even on a slow night. The pros: Friendly, casual, they rushed the children's food out first, dumplings were delicious, hangar steak was unbelievable. The cons: Thai iced tea was a watery mess, the pad Thai had some runny sauce and didn't taste very peanuty. No shrimp, just chicken and tofu (tofu was tasty). Overall bill was $75 with tip for three entrees and 3 non-alcoholic drinks. Seems high to me, but probably not for this area. I would definitely go here again. read more

Although Bangkok Kitchen is not the most exotic of Thai places, I am always impressed by the tastiness, portion size and veggie options they offer. Many of the non-veg dishes can be modified, which is a pleasure to those of us that tend to rely on the same one or two dishes in other establishments. My husband and I had dinner at Bangkok Kitchen this evening, and I realized we have to go there more than our usual twice a year. The setting, moreover, has flair, and the servers are always pleasant and friendly. The owner, whom I have met on several of my visits, always checks up on customers as they enjoy their meals. On weekday evenings, getting a table is a cinch. One weekends or during the holiday season, however, Bangkok Kitchen might be packed. If you would like wine with your dinner, bring your own. The bill at the end of the evening is a bit of a surprise, for the same meal elsewhere might cost 20% more. Parking in downtown Caldwell can be a bit of a challenge, so come prepared with coins for the meters on nearby streets. read more
