The thing about tow trucks is... they're free advertising. Coincidentally, they're also a way to make it easy to write a review due to Wreckless driving. For more than 10 miles a tow truck was on right on the bumper of every car that was in front of it. Once we got to the freeway, they overtook me as quickly as they could to get to the fast lane and was again met by a car not going fast enough for them. I was going 80 and they were easily separating from me and the car they forced to move over, so do the math of how fast they were driving. Spend your money how you'd like but I wouldn't give money to a company that puts other drivers on the road at risk. read more

Untrustworthy. They committed to picking up my disabled car. They said they were too busy to do it the day I contacted them, but said they could tow it the following day. I emailed them the details they asked for. The next day I called back and was told they are unwilling to do it because they don't wan't their truck too far from their shop. I called these guys for a tow from about 5 miles from their shop. They said they could pick Me up in 30 minutes. When I called them back after waiting an hour they said they had another call that was more important and I'd need to wait another half hour. The. I called them again after waiting another 45 minutes. They never called me to let me know that they were running massively late. These guys have terrible service. tl;dr: After a long night of disappointments, B&D Towing came through for us, like a shining star, and we will *definitely* use them again, and refer friends to them! Full story: After leaving a party in Oakland, around midnight, my husband thought something sounded funny with his motorcycle, so we pulled over on the side of the road. After a quick check of the back tire, he determined that it was not safe to ride all the way back to Danville (about 20 miles). I called AAA, having purchased the higher level of membership for exactly this reason (motorcycle towing). They started a ticket, told me it'd be about 45 minutes, and sent me a confirmation text message. After a lot of back and forth, around 2 am, they told me that they didn't have a driver to come get us. It's too far for them to tow us home. Really?! They suggested we call another towing company and submit for reimbursement. Tired and just wanting to get home, I called 4 or 5 tow places from Yelp. After someone finally answered, they told me it'd be about 90 minutes to come get us. I agreed and we settled in. 90 minutes later, there's no tow truck and now they're not answering their phone and it's 3:30 in the morning. And we're on the side of the road. In Oakland. So, we start calling places again. My husband thought that maybe calling someone closer to home would be a better idea - they'd drive to come get us, and then be close to home base when they dropped us off. We called B&D Towing. I'm pretty sure we woke the driver up, but he took our info and said he'd be on his way. Hallelujah! He calls back about 20 minutes later to confirm where we are, and about 20 minutes after that he rolls down the street, lit up like a long haul trucker. So, by about 4:30, the bike is loaded on the flatbed, all strapped down and approved by the husband (who tows shit around for a living) and we climb in the truck. It is brand new, super clean, pleasant smelling. We drive the half hour home, and watch the sun start to come up (it was June). We chatted with the driver (Yeager, maybe?) and he was super friendly. We get home, unload the bike, pay the man and crawl into bed around 6. Finally, that "adventure" was over. read more

Towing my Tesla through AAA turned into waste of time. I should have just used The Tesla tire service. Tesla sent B&D Towing with the appropriate flat-bed tow truck. The driver Tony was very conscientious and knowledgeable about Tesla towing. He was especially safety aware. Obviously, B&D have protocols in place and make sure their employees follow them. The air quality is the worst in the world right now, but I've been told to wait outside the locked gate for someone to come out and help me and my son. I called B&D after calling Contra Costa Sherif's department; who instructed me to call a towing agency. An Abandoned car was left in my driveway preventing access to my home. I successfully dispatched the tow to remove this car, but 10 minutes later the tow driver called back spewing rhetoric and excuses. Simply put don't waste your time with B&D. B&D towed my truck and did not put the gear shift bar back correctly. It shifted and kicked out while I was driving, which is super unsafe but luckily, I didn't have an accident. Their negligence could have caused a lot of harm to myself or other drives, and less importantly, could have significantly damaged my truck. I do not recommend their services and if you have to deal with them, double check your car for damage. I recommend United Towing instead - super reliable, friendly, and competent unlike B&D. read more

My middle-aged car wouldn't start, which is always a frustrating experience. I called B & D to request a tow to a nearby auto shop. Within 30 minutes, despite a short notice call on a Saturday, they were able to find by, quickly get my car into position with, and to the auto shop. All at a pretty reasonable price. They towed my car from an apartment complex that was literally RIGHT NEXT DOOR. It didn't have a time limit on it. All it said was retail parking and I assumed that meant parking for people who didn't live in the apartments. So I got towed for no reason. My car was towed while I was out of the country on vacation for 10 days. I didn't find out until I got back in town. I am in the auto business and the car has a dealer's license which shows that it is a registered and road legal car despite what the license plate sticker says. However, the towing company is still trying to charge me $400 for the 4 mile tow from Moraga to Lafayette, and then $125 a day for 8 days (and counting) for a total of over $1400. I have spoken to Moraga PD about this, explaining the situation with the dealer license which was clearly mounted in the rear window of the car. They didn't care and instead demanded $150 for release papers, and then adding that THEY PREFER CASH. Nothing about this feels right. read more

When my scooter broke down and AAA told me two wheeled vehicles were not covered by my plan I was sure I was going to be in for a long and expensive night. I live in Vacaville and I was stuck in Concord (about 35 miles). AAA searched and searched and finally found a company that could accommodate my two wheeled vehicle. I was surprised to hear that they could be there in 30 minutes, and was even further surprised at the very reasonable price they quoted me. The driver who pulled up was named Ken Rreck. Now in the past I have had some experiences with tow truck drivers from other companies that were less than ideal (poor attitudes, rude, arrogant etc.). Ken was none of these things. I was greeted by my name and a huge smile. The anxiety and stress of having to deal with a broken down vehicle went away very quickly as I could tell I was in good hands. Throughout the whole process Ken did everything he could to make sure I wasn't stressed out, and very importantly, he made sure my vehicle was safe. Towing a scooter on a flatbed can be a little sketchy at times because of the risk of it tipping over. Ken took his time getting the scooter strapped down just right and I knew we weren't going to leave until things were safe. On the way to Vacaville, I had a very pleasant conversation with Ken, you can tell by talking with him that he is a honest, good-hearted person who takes pride in what he does. This was easily the best experience I have had with a tow company ever. Even the dispatcher was helpful and reassuring (I don't remember her name but I think it started with an A). Though I do not wish to have my vehicle break down again, if it does happen I would not hesitate to call B&D. If you find yourself in a situation requiring a tow, specifically request Ken. If he is not available I'm sure you will be very happy with the other drivers if they are anything like Mr. Rreck. I believe he is a tremendous asset to the company and B&D is incredibly lucky to have him as an employee. read more

My car was towed about 400 yards last Friday evening about 7.30pm. I walked over to their location in Lafayette. The car was still on the tow truck when I arrived about 7.45pm. They charged me for towing ($195) which is OK, plus they added storage ($80) and a gate fee ($80). I refused to pay these additional charges, because the car was not stored for one second. The driver blackmailed me into giving him my credit card (otherwise he would not release my car). I called the manager (Song) this morning and he refused to adjust the bill, and was rude and insulting on the phone. I have never seen business practices like this, and I hope they will be out of business soon. read more

OMG these guys are SOO bad and coupled with Costco / Ameriprise it is a recipe for disaster. The first time I used them (1/2014) they responded incredibly fast for a flat tire.. Easy enough eh? You would have thought. They could not and did not have the deep well socked to remove the tire. The first tow truck called another and together they did not have a deep well socket to remove a normal after market rim so they HAD to tow the car (they actually told my sister the lug nuts were stripped). My Costco insurance called them again for the same car. It blew a radiator line today. After dealing with Ameriprise for at least 30 min being put on hold again and again for "just a brief moment" I finally got sent to B&D towing. An hour and a half later someone showed up at my car. Had I known that it would be that long from the beginning I would have went to have dinner somewhere.. no foul. But to be told 15 min to 1 hour and to wait for 1.5 hours is not OK. I had a lot of time to think of why I left State Farm and why I didn't still have AAA towing. The "free" towing from your Costco Exec. card is not worth the price. You only need a tow when it is inconvenient. To have a company ( Ameriprise) who chooses that time to decide to debate whether you are covered and then decide "eh you are right you are covered".. we'll send a tow truck (the slowest/cheapest one we can find) is so NOT COOL!!! Coupled with a half witted tow company who is obviously low bidder makes me thoroughly understand why free can be really bad. I was on the phone so long my phone went almost dead.. Never thought that I would review a towing company on Yelp, but here I am! I believe the person who came to assist me was named Ken (could be wrong), he was great! I have a hybrid Nissan Altima and thought that I needed a tow to the dealership to get my car repaired. When I called Nissan and explained the issue they basically told me that what it sounded like was an issue that cost $500 to repair and to get my car towed into the shop. It took about 20 min for B&D to arrive and the awesome thing is that just like another reviewer said, they don't just tow your car and not ask questions. He took the time to explain things I didn't know about hybrid vehicles and figured out what the real issue was. I'm not going to bore you with the long details of what was wrong with my car, my point is that this company cares about their customers and have a good team working for them.
