We had a good time at Azay. I had the daily bento with jidori chicken (the chicken was DELISH), my guests had the Nagoya hitsumabushi (eel bowl) & crab curry. The service was excellent (they even gave me xtra salad since I omitted rice). Water/tea refills were spot-on. My only complaint is that the soba noodles were totally overcooked, like, beyond. Probably needed 2-2.5min less cooking time. Other than that I thought the meal was decent. Would def like to return & try their Japanese breakfast.

So glad to have found this spot in LA! Was really missing traditional Japanese breakfast from our travels abroad and so happy to have come across Azay. Menu is simple but with good variety of options. We tried the breakfast bento and lunch bentos. The array of accompaniments was excellent. Service is also wonderful & very friendly. Food was served hot & fresh, quality was excellent as to be expected. Beautiful, bright and cozy space. Really enjoyed our meal here & looking forward to our next visit. Also got the matcha crème brulee--one of the best desserts we've ever had. Perfect balance of matcha & sweetness. Pro tip: make a resy! Tables fill fast.

First time at Azay in Little Tokyo today, and somehow it felt like I'd been meaning to walk through those doors for years. One of those places that quietly lingers on your "must try" list until you finally give in. Azay was opened by chef Akira Hirose, who built the space around the kind of Japanese breakfast he grew up with. Thoughtful. Seasonal. The opposite of rushed. It's a small, intimate restaurant in the heart of Little Tokyo, where the morning light hits just right and everything feels intentional. The Japanese breakfast was exactly what I hoped for and somehow better. A neat lacquered tray carrying grilled fish, delicate sides, miso soup, rice, pickles. Comforting in that quiet, steady way. Home cooked but precise. Balanced without trying too hard. Elegant, nourishing, and deeply satisfying without ever feeling heavy. It's the kind of meal that doesn't shout for attention. It simply exists with confidence. And sometimes that's exactly what you want.

I hopped over to Azay for a quick lunch and promptly fell in love. From the ambience, to the joyfulness of the staff, from the presentation and sheer flavor of the food... everything was perfect. I ordered the Japanese Breakfast with mackerel and it was perfectly proportioned and flavored. The mackerel was cooked perfectly crispy without burning or drying out the fish. Folks have said the miso was a bit warm, but proper miso is meant to be made in warm water lest you kill the beneficial bacteria. Which means, the miso soup was also perfect. I also ordered the eel bowl for take out, and it's possibly the best eel I've ever had. More importantly, the way they flavored the rice surprised and delighted me. I don't think I've ever had rice taste so so so delectable. I would honestly just go back to eat the seasoned rice in their eel bowl and be the happiest person ever. The miso butter chocolate chip cookies was also very good--more buttery than miso tasting though. Thank you very much for such fine service and feasting. I left feeling lighter and happier. Thank you thank you thank you.

Met a friend here for lunch and thank goodness we had a reservation, place was packed when we showed up. Service was warm and genuinely friendly. The menu is small and everything sounded good. I ordered a coffee and the tofu & maitake bento: super light, clean, and really satisfying. Bonus points for the coffee refills, and it was actually good coffee, not an afterthought. My friend went with the chawanmushi and the miso black cod bento, which was perfectly cooked. We ended with crème brûlée and a cookie, and wow, perfect Japanese-style sweetness. Not cloying, not heavy, just right. Loved it. Only downside: parking is an absolute nightmare. Truly awful. But once you're inside, it's worth the hassle.

Came to Azay in Little Tokyo with my daughter and it did not disappoint. We started with the chicken karaage, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside--an instant hit. For our mains, I had the miso cod Japanese breakfast bento box and my daughter ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. Both were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The miso cod was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right, and the variety in the bento made every bite interesting. The chicken teriyaki was equally impressive--savory, well-balanced, and clearly made with care. Everything we tried was exceptional, from the quality of the ingredients to the execution. You can really taste the attention to detail in each dish. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to.

We were so excited to have the chance to try this place for the first time. The service was great. They were able to accommodate us without a reservation. The staff was attentive and courteous. The dining space is clean and they have an open kitchen. The food was excellent. It was an authentic Japanese breakfast experience which brought us back to the ryokan in Kyoto. Restroom was clean, which is always a plus! Street parking available. Reservation is recommended. We will definitely return!

really cool neighborhood vibe although you'd easily miss it amongst the bustle of the area. staff is welcoming and friendly although at times due to the fast pace, you might have to flag down someone for water refills, etc. it's a small place and anyone is willing to help so don't get frustrated. the food is yummy although on the slightly high price for the variety that you might want to expect for Japanese breakfast. the okazu could be better and the rice portion more generous. the standout was the unagi bowl, as the fish was not oily, but cooked to soft tender perfection. the decor is on trend as they recently remodeled (due to a water damage from upstairs tenant).

Absolutely delicious japanese breakfast, a rare find in LA! We got the miso black cod option and the fish was marinated perfectly while still being moist and flaky. The portion isn't huge but it's enough to be a light to moderate sized breakfast that feels healthy and doesn't weigh you down. I would definitely come here again!

Japanese breakfast done authentically! Small and intimate with great food that has all the makings of a home cooked meal. If you're a big eater it won't leave you as satiated as a warning.

My husband and I feel tricked by the reviews. 4.6 stars and so we came here for lunch and were sorely disappointed. He had the crab curry and I had the mackerel bento. He said the carrots in his curry weren't cooked all the way and the curry was bland. My mackerel was rubbery I wondered if it was microwaved. The soba was overcooked and the sauce tasted like supermarket jar sauce. The salad dressing just tasted like oil. I really hate leaving bad reviews but we feel like 4.6 is just tricking people into eating here. We also paid $15 just to eat here so overall spent over $100 for food we could've easily cooked better at home.

So good! We made a Resy and was able to sit down after a couple of minutes. There was a line for walkins so super glad to know they take reservations. We got the steamed egg with seafood on the bottom for the starter which was perfect. Then we both got Japanese breakfast with miso cod and it was perfection. Definitely a place I'd like to return to over and over again. Service was great and the wait time for food was not long at all. Hot tea wasn't very hot- more lukewarm but they came around with hot water to refill so all good! Not sure why yelp labeled it as Japanese/French- I'd say more Japanese/Hawaiian as they have loco moco on the menu.

Love the Japanese breakfast! Cod was cooked in perfection. Miso soup is the best that I have ever had. Service was superb too. A good vibe here.

The service was absolutely on pointe thanks to Kaiya, Teri, and Randy. Warm, polished, attentive, and just the right amount of fun. Hubs and I split everything, which was the right move because this meal was rich, delicious, and very filling. We started with the baguette bread service, which is an additional charge but 100% worth it. The bread, salted butter, and mixed berry spread were pure France in a basket. Next up was the French onion soup, and wow. Cheesy, full of flavor, with a beautiful broth that somehow managed to be rich without being too salty. Perfection. Then came the Big Mec burger, as seen on Food Network's top burgers -- and yes, it absolutely lives up to the hype. Definitely enough for two. Perfectly seasoned patties, melty cheese, a fresh brioche bun, and that bordelaise sauce bath underneath? Flavor-forward, decadent, and unforgettable. We rounded out the meal with a slice of French toast because apparently we make excellent life choices. Also delicious, also worth sharing. This was not just lunch -- it was an experience. Will I go back? Absolument! Next up: dinner.

Got seated on the patio on a beautiful day, so we were perfectly happy. After a quick glance at the menu, our recommendations from our server, we decided to order. We started with the escargot, as one does at a French restaurant, and the French onion soup. The escargot cube bathed in butter, garlic and parsley and were very tasty. I mean, how can they not be when bathed in garlic and butter? The French onion soup was also delicious with ample gruyere cheese overflowing. Pure indulgence! For entrees, we all tried something different. The steak frites were.... steak frites. If you've tried one, you've tried most, so not very memorable. The duck confit was cooked well and not overly fatty, which was nice. The omelette, let me say, is beautiful to look at. You almost don't want to touch it because it is very picrure-esque, and absolutely cooked perfectly. A, dare I say, perfect omelette. Finally was the Big Mec. Now, there are a lot of good burgers in Los Angeles, but the Big Mec is one of the greats. So much flavor with the double wagyu patties, cheese, special sauce all while sitting in a Bordelaise sauce. It isn't something you would eat every day, as it is heavy, but it is phenomenal when you do. I'd say one of the top five burgers in Los Angeles, in my humble opinion. Overall, delicious French restaurant in Hollywood, a little above Hancock Park, serving delicious food. Get the escargot and French onion soup to start, and definitely get the omelette and the Big Mec, you will not be disappointed.

She chose this place for the Instagram worthy atmosphere you see online, but I would say it falls a little short of how picturesque it is. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice garden setup up, but we were expecting a more romantic and whimsical layout. We also noticed that the dress code is very loosely enforced as there were numerous people there with T shirts on. We got there for our reservation about 15 minutes early and was seated quite fast. The hostesses at the front were quite friendly and the wait staff were attentive and mostly nice. One of our servers seemed a little curt at one point, but it wasn't too bad. Once you are seated they ask about your drink order, and offered wines, sparkling water, and literally said "tap water". Pretty surprised that they said tap water, but we went with a glass of wine and sparkling water. The menu is short and it's easy to make your decision. We went with the 24oz Prime Ribeye Steak, Pappardelle pasta, Kingfish Crudo, and the Portuguese Piri Piri Shrimp. The ribeye was served with scalloped potatoes and green beans that were delicious. The ribeye was a perfect medium rare, tender, and served in a very balanced sauce. The Piri Piri Shrimp was also great. Large pieces in a slightly spicy cream sauce; I would describe it as almost a Cajun flavor. These were my favorites of the dishes we ordered on this night. The Kingfish Crudo was a nice choice. I believe it was yellowtail served with small pieces of cherry tomatoes and peach chunks. The sauce was nice and refreshing with a little sweetness. The Pappardelle Pasta was ok, and probably my least favorite dish of the night. It wasn't bad, but wasn't on par with the rest of our meal. The thick pasta noodles were al dente, and the sauce was nice and creamy with pieces of green beans. It got better once we mixed the poached egg into the sauce, but still didn't get it to the point where we would order it again. Since it was my fiancé's birthday, she wanted to get one of their desserts served as a small birthday. She saw pictures of their passion fruit coconut cheesecake on Instagram and wanted that, but they changed it where the passion fruit was at the bottom of the cake. I thought it was decent, but not a great dessert. I thought the staff would at least sing happy birthday like other restaurants, but that didn't happen here. Overall, The Little Door is a small romantic stop to have a date night. I don't know if I would consider it a place to celebrate a special occasion though. I think we would come back, but not for anything big. Also, I would recommend using the valet, it's right in front and they only charge $14 pre tip.

Because Camelia's is one of only like, 3 restaurants on the east side, and pretty much the only one open on Monday (which was the last reasonable day to use this credit - yes, I was panicking, along with apparently 80% of the people who were dining that day). I had made a reservation for a Monday evening for a date night, but my partner had a work emergency, and dang it, the heck if I wasn't going to use this Chase credit! So I figured, no problem. Plan B. I'll just get take out. NEWP. It was Not Allowed (TM). They said the kitchen couldn't accommodate additional take out orders on top of their load that night. I was...a bit perplexed, I guess, because I had made a reservation, so it wasn't...an additional kitchen load? Like, y'all were expecting my party of 2 already? It was..... just putting the food in the box rather than on a plate? Make it make sense. In any case. I planted myself at the bar, made some friends (solo diners who were likewise last minute panicking about making sure to use their Reserve credit), ordered enough food for me and my partner, and as it came out, I just asked them to box it up (yes, I did sneak a couple tastes in). Patrick, who was my server, was fantastic - so kind and understanding. And at the end, Blair the bartender as well as Patrick both helped me make sure my "leftovers" were all there and safely packed for a car ride. Now for the food. Amazing. We got the black sesame rolls with salted butter (SO good), the oyster mushrooms (loved all the flavors on this), the black sesame snap peas (this was nice to get because veggies, but less fun than the others - some of the other dishes just had these lovely complex flavors...this one just sort of had lots of black sesame flavor, which we love, just a bit more straightforward than other stuff). We also got the beef cheek sando that was only available at the bar (delicious and so tender, with a side of picked veggies), the Japanese bolognese (I'm not sure what was Japanese about it, but it was very tasty!), and the seabream.(tender, comes with some sort of mashed something or over that is kind of sweet, and with clams). We might come back in the future for an actual dining experience - the space is cute, and parking isn't horrible. There's valet, but also plenty of parking if you're willing to walk a couple blocks.

Both were good. These next three I'll group them together as good/decent but nothing special. The mousse pate was packed with flavor, wish the bread was crispier. Spaghetti I can make this better. Burger was okay with lots of melted cheese and (I think) carmelized onions between a brioche--wish this had more in it. The worse thing was the broccolini. I'm not sure why this is even on the menu. If not for the pot pie, the food alone would be a solid 3. I bumped it up to 4 because of the pot pie, the delicious (and stiff) drinks, and the overall experience.

And then I came upon this place. A place that served French food, and would allow me to people see as I enjoyed Parisian fare. So the decision was made for I had found both the food I enjoyed, and the ambiance I enjoyed. I whispered where the Farmer's Market of the Grove responded, Monsieur Marcel Bistro, in a french accent that in my mind was just a wee coquette. I was dining solo and I was sat in the bar, perfectly fine with me. The server soon brought water. And the goblet had a paper straw. And I know this sounds super fragile, but I do not like drinking from paper straws cause the paper tastes throws my taste buds off. And it is not like I ask for a plastic straw cause my taste buds come first and the environment second. Nothing like that. I take the straw out and sip using my lips. I know it is barbaric, but I rather be an uncooth dolt then suffer the taste of paper on my tongue I loved the service of this place. It did not have charm, or charisma, but it was attentive, efficient and polite. Like the server brought me a chalkboard labeled plats de jour or plates of the day. I do not know French, but I trust Google translate enough to correctly translate this phrase. I appreciated the touches of gray blue and white throughout. I also appreciated the cursive, it all seem so Parisian-fancy, yet in the daylight. I ordered the whole Dorade, and did not order the Filet Mignon. That was my fatal flaw. My not ordering right. The Dorade is like a white fish, like a Branzino they explained it to me. And it came with a side of burblanc maybe it was a white sauce, creamy and thick. As my pictures show, when I first received the fish it came whole, like skin. I would not dare fileting myself. I know bad things happened when I filet fish by myself. The server took it back and it came as two clean filets. The first mouthfuls were a delight. And as destiny might write it, when the server asked me how I was enjoying the meal I was placing a big forkful in my mouth. And ugh! That is when i discovered the bones of the fish. I continued eating and the bones were many. The bones waiting for me in this great white fish, accompanied with lemon, and a white tick sauce, and nothing-tasting asparagus, had bones. Too many bones for me. In the past, I had almost nearly choked on one. To be clear, this did not happen on this outing, but still I struggled to enjoy the dish because of the bones. I need to remember that white fish served like this has bones. Should it have bones? Is there a way that one can eat this type of fish and enjoy it despite the bones? Like is there a way to use knife and fork to inspect if a mouthful has a fork? If there is I am afraid I never attended the charm school that imparted this skill unto folks. In short, this took down the place to only a 4 star experience. The people watching, the atmosphere the loveliness of its gray blue and accompanying cursive did not overshadow the finding of the bones. In complete contrast, the item that I cannot gush enough about is their chacuterrie board. I have never seen a restaurant offer a cheese board with one cheese. Like I would go back to this place just to have the cheese board and the french blue I had. But what made the board sing was their chutney, house-made so bravo to the house! Like the chutney was both sweet and savory and it was chunky, so that added to the authenthicity of the moment. To draw a shaky parallel, I imagined that chunky peanut butter made in house would taste way better than chunky peanut butter from the jar. When I combined the bread, the chutney, the bleu and a nut, it was a strong showing of flavor and pleasure. It was not until I wrote this that I noticed that plate had no meat. I cannot wait to go again and get the cheese board plate and this time I will make a point of adding some meat.

The owners added to the warmth of the space genuinely welcoming, the kind of presence that makes a place feel personal rather than polished-for show. The sea bass was the standout: perfectly crisped skin, buttery and delicate underneath, resting over earthy lentils that soaked up every bit of flavor. Paired with a smooth Malbec, it all came together effortlessly. But honestly, the best part of the night wasn't just the food or the wine. it was the company. The soft candlelight, a shared table, and her next to me made everything taste better. A spot that feels intimate without trying too hard. Definitely coming back.

The Scallop Ravioli was far too salty, and the burger and fries were heavily over-seasoned to the point that we left most of them unfinished. Especially the fries tasted too salty. We ended up leaving most of the ravioli, burger, and fries because of the salt level. I understand that seasoning is subjective, but the salt level made it difficult to enjoy the meal. On the positive side, the ambiance was lovely, and the servers were friendly and attentive and the complimentary beers were appreciated, but unfortunately the food did not meet our expectations.
