    a view of a vineyard

2 couples, made this our first stop of 5 (6 including wine pairing dinner) wineries in the area across 3 days. Mo (owner/vintner/wine pourer/story teller) took some time out from his busy harvest to pour his wines for us. This was (by far) the best lineup of wines we had during our Willamette visit, and just 1 of 2 that we'll have on our list for the next visit. Stunning bubbly and chardonnay and then multiple great Pinots. I'm not a "Pinot guy", but Mo's may have changed that. Oh, and the site was easily our favorite tasting location, outside on the shaded deck with afternoon sun kissing the Ayoub grapes. If you're into small founder/owner wineries that are committed to making the highest quality wines... and you want to enjoy the visit and maybe even learn something, then this should absolutely be on your itinerary.

Mo is making really great wine in the Dundee area! Make you appt, you won't be disappointed! First impression driving up his driveway, was is this the place? There are no signs, and it is his own residence. Beautiful grounds and vineyards! We sat in Mo's kitchen and started tasting his line up. I really love his Chardonnay. Mo tells you a little about the grapes and where each of the vineyards is located. It's a fun, relaxing wine tasting experience. I really liked how quiet and private the experience was. Not in a busy loud tasting room! Mo also makes many Pinot's. His whole cluster Pinot is not like any others I've tasted. It's got a silky smooth finish! It was hard to decide which ones to buy, so we bought a few of our favs, one for now and one to hold for a few years. His wines are drinkable now, but I can't imagine how well these will age!

Absolutely a must visit to taste Mo Ayoub's wines when you visit Portland! I guarantee you will not leave there without bringing home some the most delicious Chadonnay and Pinot Noirs !

In Mo's kitchen. He's pouring the wine!! Great experience!

OK, so after Purple Hands, this was probably my next favorite place we visited and definitely the most unique tasting experience we have had. You start by calling for a reservation... not sure how much we needed it on Thanksgiving weekend but definitely polite as you go to his house. Ok.. so, pulling into the owner, Mo's, driveway. Shoes off at the front door and walk through his foyer and living room to his beautiful and cozy kitchen. Mo pulled a couple wine glasses out of his dishwasher and we joined the other groups to chat with Mo. It was just him... so we had a great time just chatting as a large group with Mo. Often when we wine taste, we stick to ourselves. It was great to chat as a large group. Everyone talking about a common interest.... wine. If you walk through the door in the corner, you will find his garage.... where he stores his barrels. Haha, a dream for me one day!!! His wines are very good, but you should really come here for the tasting experience. This man knows his wine and loves to talk to everyone about it!

Ayoub Wines - Estate Vineyard - May 2014

Visiting Ayoub was the highlight of our recent trip to the Willamette Valley. Mo Ayoub's wines are small production bottlings of some of the finest Pinot Noir you can find. Don't expect to walk into a fancy tasting room. Better yet, you are invited into his home and wines are generously poured at his kitchen island! How is that for service? Of the dozen or so wineries we visited on our trip, this was the only location where we got to speak directly with the winemaker. It is clear that Mo takes great pride in his wines and shows great interest in getting to know his patrons. His five acre vineyard, used for the Estate wine, is directly behind his house. The mesmerizing view from his deck cannot be put into words. The remainder of his fruit for other bottlings is judiciously sourced from nearby prominent vineyards. Mo appears to be a perfectionist. Limited tastings are by appointment only and I think preferences are given to wine club members. Go there prepared to take home a case! His wines are so good they will give you chills! Try to find a few bottles of the 2012 vintage prior to the release of wine scores. Once they are released, you will wholeheartedly regret not having several bottles in your cellar. We look forward to our next trip to Oregon, which will surely include a repeat visit to Ayoub.

A typical tasting line-up at Ayoub. The best in Oregon.

No matter what, you won't be disappointed. The entire place has cozy seating options throughout the entire space. Outdoor fire pit, small alcoves and plenty of regular seating in the front if you want to admire all of the wine bottles for sale. This is a perfect place to stop if you want to grab lunch or picnic items on your way out to the vineyards for wine tasting! Most wine tasting rooms will let you bring outside food to enjoy while you taste. So this is a go to spot for me as I prepare to enjoy my day out near the vines. All menu food is prepared from scratch, so expect to wait a reasonable amount of time for the legit goodness that awaits you. I love their sandwiches but they are known for the wood fired pizzas. A great place to grab a gift if you need a bottle of wine or other lovely local treats to share with another special person... definitely be sure to check it out when you're passing through Dundee next time

My last visit left a bitter taste. We came right when they opened. Prior to ordering I inquired how long it might take to get served? I was told 30 minutes, and our meals should be ready. An hour later, I went back in to inquire. The waitress asked the line cook. He said it was next on cue. Okay! Our meals came an hour and 45 minutes after initially ordering. No apologies, no we're sorry. Just the run around. It would have been nice if they said that they were short staffed. Looking at other reviews, this looks like it is now their norm. I hope this gets resolved.

Unprepared for the…read morerain and with a couple of hours to kill, we decided to seek shelter at VWM to check out the selection and talk to owner Andrew. When I go to a wine shop, I like to see how well organized the store is. I've been in some shops that have open cases of wine at every endcap and it feels disorganized and chaotic, not to mention it makes it very challenging to find anything. On this front, VWM has a well-organized selection and absolutely no clutter on the floors - two walls with wine, and a decent number of labels as well, and plenty of space to walk. The shop focuses on wines from Oregon, which makes sense. Perhaps 60% or more of the labels are from Oregon producers, and most of those are smaller producers that might not see a ton of distribution. There was also a decent selection of champagnes as well as a smattering of still wines from France (mostly Burgundy), Italy, etc. This is a very well-curated selection with some unique wines as well - when's the last time you've seen Beaujolais Blanc or the Saint-Amour cru from Beaujolais? And not to worry if you don't know the first thing about wine. Andrew, the owner, is incredibly knowledgable and knows all of his wines inside out. Whether you're looking for something specific or not sure what to go, you will almost certainly leave the shop with a wine you'll love and within the budget you indicated. In terms of price, you may be able to find some of the wines more cheaply than VWM's price. I looked up a few labels compared to retail prices for shops in my home state and found VWM is about 10% more expensive on average, however I'd gladly pay slightly more to receive the value-added knowledge that Andrew adds to the buying experience - details about the producer, its history, its winemaker, the site, etc. Although many of us that travel to the region are there to visit wineries and do tastings, if you're looking for an excellent shop where you can find some Oregon's best producers all in one place, VWM is definitely the place. Best part is that they can ship to most states so you don't have to worry about carrying a case (or two) of wine back on an airplane and wondering if it'll survive the journey home.

Well first the pizzas are an average $30-$40 for a 12" or 16". We don't mind paying a premium if the product matches. This wasn't the case. They advertise wood fire pizzas, that's not what we received. On the way out I looked into the kitchen. I could only see the normal pizza ovens. The pizza did not have the classic bubbling and slightly burned spots as a wood fired pizza has. The pizza we rated at a 6 and that's a generous number. I ordered the bbq chicken pizza. Well I thought I ordered it with chicken ? I rejoiced when I found one lonely strip of flavorless chicken, the pizza was not crisp , loads of sauce and a bit on the sweet side. Usually if there any leftovers, I will take it home. This time , I forced myself to eat what I could and left the rest. Two others in our group had similar experiences. One of our party ordered a sandwich, we believe the salt shaker cap must of came off because all she could taste was salt. The good which is what pushed the rating to a 3 star. Is the customer service. My friend is handicapped and they were very accommodating to him. The beer was nice and cold. Doubtful we will back. There is a house down the road with better pizza
