I came up to see my daughter and her boyfriend last weekend, and we planned to include some wine tasting during the visit. They're members at a vineyard just outside of Newberg, so I thought I'd also pick one in the same general area. Little did I know there would be so many to choose from! After a few hours of research, I came upon King's North. The reviews were great, and I liked the story of two brothers from Wisconsin coming to Oregon to start a winery. The fact that they're the ones spending the long hours in the vineyards was also cool. I had a very pleasant conversation with Mac (one of the 2 brothers) on 6/5 about the winery, and he mentioned that Sunday had availability. He asked that I send a message through their website once I had a time in mind. So, on 6/6, I did so. Mac sent a confirmation email the next day, but it was more than that: "Hey Steve! Sorry for the late reply, we've been putting some long hours in the vineyard. This sounds great. Confirming I have you down for 1:15 PM on Sunday, June 11th for a party of three. Please let me know if you need anything else from me, happy to help. Really looking forward to your visit. Thank you, Mac I so appreciated the enthusiasm and sincerity! On 6/8, I messaged him about possibly bringing a few snacks due to gluten and dairy issues. He wrote back that we were welcome to bring outside food (rare for a winery), and he even offered utensils, plates and napkins, if needed. Wow! The tasting experience was as amazing as Mac. The $20 fee was the lowest in the area; and, prior to the flight, we toasted with the same sparkling wine that he and the family did when they started King's North. We tasted a Chenin Blanc, Grenache Rose, and 3 Pinots. All were amazing, and each came with a story, which was very cool. He also brought to the table samples of the beautiful Pinot vines at the budding/flowering stage. A first for me! At the end, we were served coffee and salted caramel chocolates. We ended up buying a couple of bottles, which waived one of the tasting fees. I cannot recommend King's North enough. If you're in the area, don't miss the hospitality, views, stories, and amazing wines!

This place is outstanding. My boyfriend surprised me with a reservation here for wine tasting today and it did not disappoint! The place is ran by two brothers who are super passionate about wine and have truly created a hidden gem that feels so relaxing and comforting. My favorite wine was the Nebbiolo. We will definitely be back here soon!

The tasting room in Sherwood is easy to find, has plenty of parking, and has lots of space indoors and outdoors. There's a large open main tasting room with several different types of seating, a private room upstairs, and lots of seating in the covered outdoor area. The views of Mount Hood and the surrounding vineyards are breathtaking! They have two main wine tasting options: the Vista Flight ($25) and Single Vineyard Flight ($40). If you're new to Chehalem Wines, I recommend the Vista Flight. Both are fantastic, and if you're a Stoller Group member, you get either one flight or one glass at this (or other member wine tasting rooms) for free each month. We love their Pinot Noir wines, especially the Corral Creek Vineyard Pinot Noirs. But they also have a delicious Grüner Veltliner and solid Chardonnays. While you're wine tasting, this is a great place to also grab a bite to eat, as they have a full kitchen and food menu. Their focaccia bread is super fluffy and SO good! Wine prices are on par with this part of the Willamette Valley, and some are actually below the average in this area for what I think are high quality wines. Finally, we always have amazing service here. The staff are friendly and helpful. We always love coming back here and can't wait for our next visit. If you're looking for a spot to go wine tasting in this area, I highly recommend making a reservation (although they take walk-ins).

The staff was polite, welcoming, and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing. The experience was like going into a nice home, next to a vineyard, for wine and cheese. Lovely atmosphere. Our group of eight had a Saturday afternoon reservation. We arrived and were seated before 12:30pm and left by around 1:45pm. This did not appear to be a big operation. During our visit, I saw only two lady employees tending to all the customers. Rain Dance has indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated inside. Regardless of where you sit, there are good views of the property's vineyard and garden. It's beautiful and serene. Shortly after our tasting began, a bachelorette party left. Therefore, we had the inside all to ourselves save for a couple seated by the window. The weather was pleasant so several doors to the house were left open, creating a calm, gentle breeze. We had the wines listed below. Individual bottle prices are from the time of our tasting and descriptions are from Rain Dance's website at the time of writing this review ( https://raindancevineyards.com/shop/ ). * 2022 Grand Oak Vineyard Riesling. $32 for 750-mL bottle. "Classic aromas and flavors of stone fruit and tropical flowers are lifted by vibrant acidity on the palate. This drier-style Riesling allows for so much versatility at the dinner table, but fish dishes are our favorites." * 2023 Grand Oak Gewurztraminer. $32 for 750-mL bottle. "A Rain Dance favorite! Gewurztraminer is a rare find in Oregon, especially in such a dry style. Its lively notes of jasmine, peach and spice box are perfect for Asian and Indian dishes loaded with their own exotic spices." * 2022 Estate Pinot Noir Cuvee. $45 for 750-mL bottle. "Fresh notes of cherries, pomegranate, plums, black pepper, pipe tobacco, and cinnamon." * 2021 Grand Oak Vineyard Pinot Noir. $60 for 750-mL bottle. "Bright and fresh with a complex assortment of dark cherries, raspberries, cranberries, intermingled with thyme, sage, and cinnamon." Since the time of our visit, I think the 2022 Grand Oak Vineyard Riesling and the 2021 Grand Oak Vineyard Pinot Noir have been replaced by 2023 and 2022 vintages, respectively. We also had at least two charcuterie boards ($35 each) that included crackers, roasted hazelnuts, onion jam, pork rillettes, raisins, and three kinds of cheese. The total cost for our group for everything was $336, which worked out to $42 per person. While I've been to a lot of wineries/vineyards and done a lot of wine tastings (just search my reviews), I'm still by no means a wine connoisseur. All I can say about Rain Dance is I thought all of the wines were enjoyable. All four, from the riesling to the pinot noirs, were delectable. They smelled and tasted well made and high quality. In short, I enjoyed our visit to Rain Dance and thought it was worth the visit. Rain Dance Vineyards is named after owners and founders Celia and Ken Austin's Rain Dance Ranch. The ranch was established in 1991 and the vineyard was established in 2009.

Their tasting room wasn't necessarily elegant, but the glasses were all set up for us and we began promptly. It was a rainy morning and we did get to walk through one of the vineyards, eat some grapes from the vine, and hear about Chehalem. We also toured the winery with the tanks and workers being friendly and doing their thing as it was time to make the wine. The tasting was done very well and what was very interesting was we tried the same Chardonnay from a narrow glass and a wide glass and they tasted completely different. Who would have thunk it? The science of wine! We joined the club (they waive the tasting fees if you join) and our box just arrived (they ship to FL later so the heat doesn't ruin the wine), which made me write the review. I wish I knew about that before the great quarantine of 2020. Anyway, what an excellent experience from our host at Chehalem.
