I attended the weekend Basic Rider Course with Sam and Debbie working as the instructors. I had never been on a motorcycle in my life, and that was okay. They started with the very basics and worked their way up from there. By the end of the class, I was comfortable riding the motorcycle and completing the skills during the riding evaluation. The class was fun and the instructors were both helpful and patient. I left the class feeling comfortable on the motorcycle and ready to start practicing and building on the skills I learned there. read more

I've read all the reviews about Awesome cycles and the only ones complaining either didn't read the terms and conditions or just plainly did not listen. The class I took March 4th and 5th was absolutely amazing. I've been riding motorcycles since I was 5 years old and thought I knew everything about riding until this class. David and Debbie were my instructors and David taught me how to corner even tighter and made me that much more confident on my own bike. I took the Basic Rider course at Awesome Cycles in the spring. I was not able to complete the second day of training due to work. I work in IT and when required, you have to be there. My complaint is not really about that aspect as much as it is the setup and equipment. The location is in the absolute worse part of Kuykendahl for the classroom. The instructor for the first morning told us first off, watch your stuff and don't leave things in your car. There were burgler bars on every shop in the center. The classroom portion was nothing more than old falling apart office chairs and folding tables that 4 - 6 people each sat at. The instructor just read threw the material at pace with the attitude, "let's just get through another one quickly". The riding portion was at another location further down Kuykendahl in the parking lot of an old night club. Again, we were told to park our cars where we could keep our eyes on them because they get broken into a lot. The motorcycles, helmets, all the equipment were kept in 2 old metal surplus shipping containers. The things leaked so bad that everything was soaked. They did say that the class was held rain or shine, so no surprise there. The helmets provided though were soaked and moldy beyond belief, so if you take the course, buy your helmet. The motorbikes were various brands in the 250cc range. I know that these are training bikes; however, these were beyond abused. The tanks on most were dented and that is not uncommon in BRC. Mine had handle bars that were so bent, my left hand was 4 inches higher on the handle bar than my right hand. If you are going to learn safety and proper riding technique, this is not the way to do it. The only comment I will make about the 2nd day portion is that I contacted the owner and explained my situation. I provided proof of my having to work that day and just asked for consideration of taking the 2nd day during another class. Nothing ever came of it. Here's what I say to that. I have 4 co-workers that were waiting to see how my course went because they wanted to take the course as well and get into riding. Well, I took the course again at another MSF class location in Magnolia and it was a world of difference with a Real classroom, good equipment, pleasant people and now I am licensed and have my own bike. Guess what, my co-workers are going to Magnolia for their training. So, word of mouth does mean something. read more

I should have wrote a review years ago bc I tell everyone about this place. Me and my mom took the class together a few years ago. The instructors/ teachers were funny, positive, helpful, and down right awesome. I was so nervous before coming here bc I had never even used a clutch before, But they didn't make me feel like an idiot. They used positive reinforcement. Now don't get me wrong, they were very serious about what they were teaching . They just knew how to make you feel comfortable and at ease so you could get the best learning experience and walk away confident in your riding. I always tell anyone who is interested in Learning that they need to look this place up. They are definitely awesome! read more

I've really bad time with Awesome Cycles!!! They can have knowledge but the have no idea how deal with people one instructor have really bad attitude!! They are very racist, treat me bad just because I'm Latino. If you do not want start your bike life wrong foot just no go to this place. If you are Latin, do not even think about going to this place!! They said they were going to give back my money and in the end did not give it back. if you do not want to start this new life experience in the wrong way do not go there!!! read more

I took the Basic Rider Course at AwesomeCycles and it was a tremendous experience for me. As a professional in her late 30s with no experience in motorcycles but a lifetime of dreaming, I was able to learn the basic skills necessary to ensure I was competent for self-instruction, practice, and hopefully soon - full highway driving capabilities. Very professional. I had no experience upon taking this course. The first day I felt a little unsure but the instructors david and Debbie were very thorough in reassuring practice it will be easier. I wish I could give NO stars to this place. They basically robbed my $175. I attended the first part of the class and after getting back from lunch I got lost and got there 10 mins late. I was kicked out the class and after days of trying to talk to a manager/owner, basically the owner sent me this: "Since you seem to be extremely dissatisfied with our company, here is a link to Houston schools so that you may find one closer to you. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/msb/traininglocations.asp" So I encorage you to go in to that link provided by him and look for another school so you don't waste your time and MONEY. I took the class in Feb. 2011. The bike I was riding had a throttle which would stick, which I told the instructor and I was not given another bike to ride. The throttle would cause me to speed up and once I even ran off the entire course. No fault of my own. Again I told the instructor and this time she came over and adjusted something and it seemed to do a little better. At any rate, I was not getting the most of my learning experience with the use of the faulty bike because I couldnt count on it to manuever correctly and it would spuratically just rev up due to the throttle, which made me afraid to take certain tight turns. It also screwed up my testing, altho I did pass it anyway. On top of everything else, the instructor informed me that the bike my husband .had bought me was going to be too BIG for me and I would DEFINATELY drop it numerous times and hurt myself on it. What? She had no way of knowing that. However, even tho I have gotten my license and ridden my new bike a few times, I was HORRIFIED to ride it. I couldnt get the instructors words out of my head. However, I am practicing on it and since I havent dropped it I know she obviously didnt know everything. Now that I have a bike that doesnt have throttle issues I am doing even better. Yay! It's obivious you need new bikes for your class . Why do you make someone ride a faulty one when you have a storage full of other bikes, none of which were offered to me.? And regarding Cody's posting...no one else except Deb, the instructor, rode my bike. So it would be impossible for anyone to know what the condition of ALL the bikes were, if they hadnt driven them. Review for Basic Rider Course: Okay firstly, the location is JUST fine. I felt safe in the area. There was nothing there (people, buildings, etc.) that would make me NOT feel safe. The classroom is next to a children's daycare and the riding area is in a HUGE parking lot. You can park your car in an area in which you can easily see it. So, if you are worried about it being stolen, it would have be broken into by a very brazen thief! Secondly, the staff is absolutely AMAZING. They are patient and humorous and absolutely caring. They want you to excel and will counsel you immediately after you've made your mistakes, even if you continue to make them. My experience (May 16-17, 2016): I had not ridden a bicycle since I was a child. That was MY BAD. When you sign up for the BRC they will tell you exactly what you need to do and to bring. It is encouraged that you brush up on your bicycling skills if you haven't done it in a while. So, I already disadvantaged myself by not being prepared. I dropped the bike multiple times and really felt like giving up. However Ms. Debbie and Mr. Dave were very encouraging and refused to give up on me, especially since they knew that I really wanted to ride. As the class went on I finally began to feel a little more comfortable during the last 2hrs of riding. I had to re-learn how to ride a bicycle and learn all the components of a motorcycle in the first day. Had I did as I was instructed before I started the class, I only would've had to focus on learning to ride a motorcycle and not learning the basics of bicycling. Again, that was on ME and not on them. Also, the night before I only got 4 hrs of sleep. The second day was a complete 180! I got 9hrs of sleep and came to the class ready to ride again. If i had not received the encouragement and pep-talk from Ms. Debbie, I may not have returned the next day. So, things were much better, I was able to go through the course and pass my evaluation leaving all other majors issues that I had behind. If I had not felt that they believed in me to complete the course and had I not received their encouragement, there's no way I would've passed the evaluation. About the BRC Bikes: Of course they aren't new, but they are rideable! I dropped their bike like 5 times and thank GOODNESS it wasn't brand new because they would've made things even more difficult for me to want to continue to learn. At first I was frustrated about everything. I even blamed the bike for some of my failures (killing dead, sensitive throttle, etc.). But I LOVED how Mr. Dave would take each of our bikes and ride them during the demonstration as Ms. Debbie talked about our exercise. This further proved to me that I was the one that had the issues and that I could NOT blame the bike because Mr. Dave was riding it flawlessly for each exercise. This meant that the bike was performing well...I however, was not! Again, another important teaching tool. At this point, I've purchased my gear and continually practice on a friend's bike (yes, he's sweet lol). THANK YOU AWESOME CYCLES! :) TIPS before taking the class: 1.) Bring chairs, water, etc: (you need to stay hydrated and cool. The course is very rigorous). 2.) LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN to what your instructors say and IMPLEMENT their instructions. (If you keep making mistakes it's because you aren't doing what they tell you to do) 3.) RELAX and enjoy the experience. (if you are tense, you will not make the right choices, even if you know what you are supposed to do.) 4.) Practice your bicycling skills before taking the course! You don't want the burden of having to re-learn balancing techniques and the new components of motorcycles at the same time! 5.) Get PLENTY of sleep before the course begins and during the days in which you take the course. (You need to be able to focus, so your brain and body should not be "tired" prior to riding) I know the review is long but I can't say enough GREAT things about the course. It all started with a drunken promise to my husband... I signed up for the class not knowing anything about motorcycles or even been on one (driver or passenger) my whole life. I took the class on 06/01/18 and left with a new skill I never thought I could ever accomplish! I've surprised myself with how well I can ride a motorcycle now! Huge thank you to Debbie and Sam W. They made this course so damn FUN!! They are truly patient with you and I have never have been in a course where the instructors personally learn and get to know every single person in class. These folks really love what they do and their teaching shows. In the end, I didn't get my license because I opted out right before the test section on the last day due to the extreme heat causing me to feel dizzy/weak. The main thing I have learned from them is how to be a safe rider and I chose to listen to my body and not risk my safety. I can confidently say I could go to the DPS to take the test and pass the written & riding test w/ 100% with what I have learned over this past weekend. However, I had such an awesome experience that I will pay the $240 again to take the course with them along with a few friends I have in mind bringing. Awesome cycles did not allow me to take course nor reschedule because I was at the riders course and not the office instead they called someone up to sit in my place and the instructor pocketed the extra money. I would not recommend establishment. Also the instructor was very rude and smelled of alcohol . Their bikes were dirty and in very poor condition and the helmets worn and smelled. Do not go here their looking to take you for a ride. read more

I was scheduled for a class and paid ahead of time. I was on my way to the first day of the weekend class bit was struck by a driver running a red light. I called to reschedule, but was told I was supposed to pay the $235 fee AGAIN. There was no budging, no consideration of circumstances. I was just told over and over again that they want more money. I CANNOT BELIEVE how cold these people can be. Sure, they're nice when they're getting money. But they're even more pleasant when they know they've gotten your $235 and didn't have to work for it. Do NOT sign up unless you know for an absolute fact that someone will not run a red light and hit you. read more

As a first time rider, I had a great time and learned much in this course. The opportunities provided by Dave and Sam to learn verses being strict were amazing. I signed up for the 2 day course and was looking forward to attending. The Friday night before the class I was rushed to the emergency room, I was discharged from the hospital monday afternoon (day of the class) i called awesome cycles tuesday morning and explained what took place, the receptionist said to write a letter to the owners explaining what tookmplace and they would probably give me a credit for a future course. David Yeater, owner/president, sent me a reply 2 weeks later basically stating that the terms and conditions apply in every circumstance and the class is non refundable. Me going to the hospital for a medical emeregency was not their fault. I included with my original email my discharge paperwork, he had the nerve to say my paperwork didnt show i was "rushed" to the hospital and that i was discharged at 9 a.m. or why I was admitted. The Dr signed my discharge papers at 9 in the morning pending negative results from an ultrasound. they didnt do the ultrasound till 1:30 and then I was released an hour and a half later. I guess I should have sent him ALL the peprwork which would show I was treated at one hospital at 11 p.m. on friday and then transferred by ambulance to another hosipital at 2 a.m. not that it would have made a difference. Basically his answer was to bad so sad. its not always about the bottom dollar but about doing whats right. yes i read the terms and conditions at time of enrollment, however, i thought David would have an ounce of compassion and although he may have lost money on giving me a credit he would have done the right thing. who knows what other business he may have gotten from besides just a class. David is an inconsiderate business owner, I do not recommend doing business with them. read more

I arrived less than 30 minutes late because of a medical emergency. I explained the situation and they would not be flexible AT ALL. The instructor told me to call the following Monday to reschedule. I called several times but no one answered the phone. After I FINALLY received a call back, I was told I could not reschedule and I even offered to pay a rescheduling fee and they still said no! I asked for the owner to call me, but I never heard from him. I will never use their services again or recommend them to anyone. They are NOT awesome at all. GO ELSEWHERE!! read more

Took the weekend class because my brother asked me to take it with him. While I am not dying to learn how to ride a motorcycle, I am extremely adventurous and believe you should try everything once in life. This is not a beginner class at all, more of a rubber stamping class. They kind of throw you in the water and hope you learn how to swim after they show you pictures in a book. Thirteen out of sixteen people had ridden many times before, some for years. The other two people that hadn't ridden drove a 5 speed automobile. I had no problem with balance and turning, but I just never got how to use the clutch correctly and they really didn't help me much other than "keep on trying and you will get used to it" attitude. Since I took this class because my brother wanted me to - I didn't want to spend money on a bunch of gear. David constantly made fun of my boots and gloves (in addition to his 12 year old stepson, which I found in poor taste). As part of some new helmet law (which he never finished discussing), he asked me how old I was in the middle of class; when I hesitated, he threatened to go look it up in my registration and tell everyone anyways. I had a friend take a class at Lone Star, who really encouraged me to learn how to ride a bike; she was a little shocked that they didn't offer me an automatic bike or work with me on the clutch during the breaks (David would sit and do facebook and smoke cigars). Another one of my sister's friends took a class elsewhere and they took the time to get a smaller motorcycle for her so she could control it better, because she weighed less - I don't know if this would have helped me any, but I only weigh 118lbs. My opinion is too much of the motorcycle gang mentality with not much teaching. read more
