The bathrooms and locker rooms are well-designed and clean, and the co-ed sauna and steam room are a major plus. The filtered water stations are always cold and well-maintained, and the smoothie bar is convenient. The reception staff are always friendly! SweatBox is intense, well-structured, and thoughtfully run. The music and variety keep me coming back. Providing ear plugs and cold eucalyptus towels are the many small touches that go a long way during this high-energy HIIT workout. Coach Gwen and Coach Mike are excellent instructors -- clear, motivating, and attentive to form. There are 3 other class studios and dozens of more fitness classes. I have enjoyed the yoga classes, especially Restorative and Deep Stretch. Chris also runs a great BodyPump class -- strong pacing and consistent energy. Overall, VIDA Ballston combines diverse programming with quality facilities and good service. Yes things break or require maintenance, but the team is constantly communicating this and working to upkeep their facility. Highly recommend!

I still wish reformer and sweatbox were included since the price for the gym isn't cheap! The facility is always well maintained and clean. i love the saunas, though those have broken a few times the management is always quick to repair the wait is usually part related. They have a wide variety of gym equipment and weight, squat racks, etc. they also offer personal training, which I have met a few of the trainers who are super nice and welcoming. It's great to workout at a gym where you are welcomed and get to know the front desk and staff. Overall, would highly recommend.

As a connoisseur of Kspas, I can tell you this place is 5…read morestars.. Its very chill and low key than Spa World. Very clean... same concept though. You get a shoe locker, and a regular locker. The bade pools are small. One warm and one cold tub... and yes its very cold.. A dry sauna and a steam sauna... I love that the shower areas are enclosed and more private. I was very comfortable to be in the buff than spa world and king. There are two rooms one is yellow ocher room and the other room is salt room. Both provide equal health benefits. As of today the ice room is still closed. The food is delicious. I got a large blueberry smoothie for $6!! I definitely recommend. For $30 its a deal. Schedule your scrubs early the book fast!

There's a $30 entry fee, which gives you access to lockers, a uniform, two small hand towels, three saunas, and a relaxing lounge area. (The steam room was unfortunately down when I visited.) They also have a café and offer additional services like different types of massages for an extra fee. The bathhouses are located inside each gender-specific locker room, and you must be unclothed to use them. One of the massages (only $100) actually takes place in the bathhouse, but I wasn't able to book it because they were fully booked until 7:00 p.m. The saunas were nice, but my top three highlights were: The food! I ordered kimbap and kimchi pancakes, and both were excellent. The kimbap came with a side of miso soup that was sooo delicious! The relaxation area. Staff walk around offering hot blankets to wrap up in. I was so relaxed that I almost missed my foot massage! The foot massage. It was everything and more, and the massage therapist was hilarious! A couple of things I didn't love: they initially assigned me a very high locker (thankfully my tall cousin switched with me ), and we weren't given an overview of the layout when we arrived. Even though the place is small, a quick explanation would've been helpful. Also, I was disappointed the steam room wasn't working. Overall, this is a great spot with amazing food and relaxing vibes. I definitely recommend it!

Received a terrible sports massage today from Nova Therapeutic ~ Courthouse. I put in my intake…read moreform that I am an athlete & have a race coming up in four days. I asked for and booked a sports massage & firm pressure. I did not put down my specific areas in intake form b/c I feel as though ppl don't read them. I prefer telling the massage therapist what is going on. I did. The therapist came in, did not introduce herself. Nothing. I said; "my hips are tight, I believe it's my psoas and lower back and glutes". "Can you spend time on my right hip" She kept massaging my back. okay, I thought.. she will work her way to my leg. NOPE. I asked again. Can you please massage my legs, esp my lower back and hip. She rubbed my neck. I repeated my self... my legs. She rubbed my head. After the fourth time, I gave up. So pissed off. Massage therapist did not speak English so did not know what I was even saying. I found this language barrier issue out when I told the front desk and manager that I was upset b/c she did NOT give me a sports massage. Manager responded. Can you stay and we can work your legs now. I said; NO. I have to go and I don't have time to get undressed again. So annoyed. They gave me a gift cert. Why would I go back to a place that provided crappy service to begin with. Worst massage place I have ever been to. As an athlete that has been to a number of massage establishments ~ waste of time & money. Do not recommend if looking for good sports massage.

Got a half hour massage and facial from Maggie. But I didn't know her name until I was finished…read moreand came out to pay and asked the receptionist, cuz Maggie only said about 4 words to me during the hour. She never asked about pressure. She never asked what I wanted. It was bizarre. The massage felt very "phoned in" and not at all specific to my muscles or needs. A large part of it was just general "rubbing" through the sheet. When she finally got the oil out, even when I could feel her hit a ropey muscle (and she could obviously feel it too) she just skipped it and kept the general rubbing. The scrub and facial were better, but oddly she left the room twice without telling me. I thought I heard the door, which was strange, and finally after about a minute I looked up to find myself alone in the room. Never had that before in a massage or other service. When a person came back and started up again I had no idea if it was her or someone else. And she asked NOTHING about my skin - dry, oily, sensitivities... She didn't know I had contacts in (I wondered if I should tell her, but it was so oddly quiet...). She did know my age (wouldn't she need to know that to know what types of things to use??). But now that I think back on it I realize: they use the same products on everyone I bet. One scrub. One oil. One cream. One lotion. One lip treatment... Nothing at all personalized. My partner got an hour massage and sadly, felt the same. His therapist also never introduced herself. In fact, she never said a word. For both of us, it was clear the therapists had not read our intake forms. The whole place is very "factory-like". While I waiting for my partner to finish, the receptionist assigned a therapist to a massage by saying, "Room one - new client". No name. No details. No info. Not a great experience. Not worth the price. My partner just came up with a great description of the experience - it is like a CAR WASH where you roll up, put your car on the tracks, and roll through. Every car treated the same, rinsed and scrubbed. The car wash of massages.

And if Jodie Foster comes here, it's Fly Fly Fly Fly Fly Little YMCA Starlington. So there you have it. I have a little love affair with this YMCA because even though the Reston one is bigger and fancier, it's also about 74 times busier than this one, and that makes this one much more relaxing to use. This YMCA is on a little back street and has its own parking which is rarely full, and is right in the heart of the Washington DC Metro Area - close to several Metro stops, actually, and within walking distance - rather than the Reston one which is way way out near Dulles Airport. I also love this location because it usually is really quiet so even though it's not my favourite and it is partially underground and a little stuffy, it is also very friendly and family oriented and everybody knows everybody, and it's one of the nicest little community gyms I've used. They just about have all of things I need although some of them are falling apart. What they don't have in equipment they make up for in character. There are some great people here both in terms of the employees and be patrons. They have the bikes I like, as well. Only 3 of them, and it's stuffy using them, but it's enough. Oh, and the fact that I was never grilled about whether I was a member, and they never called my home location, is a "big plus", like the flag of Switzerland.

My kid has an independent spirit and fit very well into the programs. We have used the after care, summer camps, and parent night programs. The summer camp programs are great. My kid had the best time in bike, lego, swim and travel camps. The bike camp especially. They rode everywhere and my kid learned bike safety well enough to remind/nag others. I liked swim and bike because my kid would pass out asleep right after dinner. Sometimes during. The staff operates very well and are extremely responsive and attentive to concerns. Be prepared for a collaborative solution vs being directive. It works well. It is the YMCA and core values are included in the business model. It is a small place and they always find a way to make things work! If you decide to become members, it is a great place to work out while your child is in care. The summer camp in Edgewater is also a great place. Leave and pick up is at Arlington. 1 week or 2 or 4 without your kids. Priceless.
