Had dinner here with a friend on Saturday night and we were both pleasantly surprised with Avenue N. The restaurant was busy but we had good service and good food. Their menu had several interesting dishes and cocktails to choose from (sweet potato enchiladas, eggplant moussaka dumplings) and many safe options like a burger, salmon, and roasted chicken. My friend ordered scallops with risotto and she ate every last bit of it, so I think that was a hit. I had the short rib and pumpkin bolognese which was yummy, rich and comforting. What a great little spot! I've been hearing wonderful things about Avenue N for a while, and was thrilled to finally have the chance to go. The small space is airy and bright and very welcoming. We were seated quickly and given waters right away, and while to took a while before our server actually made it over to us, once she did she was very pleasant and helpful. Everything was delicious, fresh and with an unusual spin. The flavors are bright, seasonal and really well-balanced weather you're spooning a fresh corn chowder or slicing into a juicy steak. I thoroughly enjoyed my pasta dish, too -- local Narragansett Creamery ricotta tortellini with fresh peas and an incredibly flavorful yet delicate parmesan broth. It was heavenly. I'm excited to go back -- it's so well-priced and absolutely charming. The one thing I wasn't crazy about were the two large TVs hanging over the bar -- the space isn't quite big enough for such a distraction, and they really take away from the ambience of the place. I just moved about 5 minutes from this place and it would take a lot for me to go anywhere else to eat now, I just love the food that much. I've also taken family and friends here, some who are quite the hipster foodies, and no one has had anything but great things to say about their meals. My favorite dish on the menu is the humble but hearty and wholesome chicken dumpling soup, made with local root veggies and scrumptious chicken dumplings, served with the cutest little homemade buttery biscuit in the center. It's the most flavorful and comforting soup I've ever eaten... the kind of comfort food that transports you to a special warm place but also doesn't leave you feeling sick or stuffed after you eat it. I love this soup so much that I've ordered it takeout a few times when I've been sick... man, there is nothing better! I've had the roasted beet and heirloom carrot salad a few times now and it always hits the spot, as have the roasted chicken and salmon entrees. I have yet to try the burger but I've heard from my guests that it's absolutely amazing. There really is not an item on the menu that isn't a hit. The pizzas are outstanding - crust is about a medium thickness with a nice chewy flaky texture with a hint of sweetness and the toppings explode with flavor in your mouth. Dishes are perfectly portioned, the cocktails are creative and fully flavorsome, and they have a nice selection of craft brews and wines. I'm a huge fan of their emphasis on fresh and local ingredients, supporting local farms, and the pantry next door is chock full of locally made treats for you to take home, including some really delicious clover honey from an apiary just down the street. They also have a great variety of homemade foods that you can pick up and heat up later on for dinner. I knocked it out of the park with their buffalo wings for the superbowl. Love the fresh flowers that are always on the tables, the place is nicely lit and the feel of dining in this refurbished brick mill is really something neat. Expect to get comfy here and stay a while - make reservations and know that seating is limited. So much care and precision goes into every dish in that kitchen, and I wouldn't want to have it any other way. Staff are all so warm and friendly. I would give this place more of a 3.5 rating, but with the ambiance and location, I'll give it the 4 rather than 3. I It's a cute place, small, good lighting, busy, all said can be a good atmosphere of that's what your wanting. It's not for everyone though! Menu is small and simple, not something for every taste, but... you can find something to try. That's what happened to me, nothing stood out to order, but tried the pork belly app and was not a fan. It was our wedding anniversary and we both had a crazy Friday and were feeling a bit frazzled. We weren't looking for a big, formal production and just wanted a delicious, low-key meal in a nice atmosphere. Avenue N. certainly delivered. We didn't have reservations, so arrived on the early side. The restaurant quickly filled though. Kate, our server was wonderful. She kept offering suggestions, letting us know her favorites and did tell us this was the first night of the new Fall menu. I was sold on the Bourbon Hayride as soon as I saw it listed over the bar. It was worth it. I could easily see myself at the bar on a chilly day sipping a few of these. For my second drink I had a B&B - Bourbon and blackberries. It was good, but I feel it is better suited to warmer temperatures. There were three craft beers on draft and a fair amount of bottles to choose from as well as a thoughtful wine list. It was hard choosing an appetizer and we went with both the corn chowder and the pumpkin-jalapeno quinoa fritters. I didn't get a lot of pumpkin or jalapeno flavor off the fritters, but we enjoyed them. The corn chowder was so rich and smooth, just delicious. For my main dish I went with the scallops which were served with an asparagus risotto and a few shrimp. I practically licked my plate clean. My husband had the salmon, which was served with a lobster farro and collard greens. He also joined the clean plate club. A+ for attitude and a damn good meal. While we were there we were personally greeted by both owners. It's the kind of place where they chef will ask you how your food is and the hostess will help you put on your jacket. And the food - wow. The margarita pizza was fantastic, perfect from the sauce to the cheese to the crust. And the cauliflower turnip bisque with truffle oil was off the charts. Brought me back to my days in Seattle tasting truffle oils and that was a glorious flashback. Make reservations or come after 8:30 otherwise you'll hit a well-deserved wait (that will be worth it). Avenue N is the quintessential Rhode Island restaurant. It is located in an old mill, where Rumford Baking Powder was once manufactured. It's located in the Rumford neighborhood of East Providence, and it's a real neighborhood gathering spot, especially with Seven Stars Bakery next door. We've been to Avenue N for brunch and dinner and never been disappointed. They feature their own twist on a lot of dishes you will recognize, and I would summarize it as new American, done very well. They feature local ingredients and local beer, and lots of outdoor seating. Last time I had a pizza with bacon and Brussel sprouts, and I made sure to take home the leftovers. We tried Avenue N for the first time a few weeks ago and were blown away. The cocktails were unique, seasonal, and delicious. The food was out of this world - we got the Hot Chicken Bao Buns, the Smoked Lamb Nachos, and the special burger for the day which had onion rings and chili. While all of the food was incredible, my husband and I both wanted more of the Hot Chicken Buns - so much so that we may both just get them as our meals on our next visit. We were also pleasantly surprised that they split our burger for us since we were sharing without us asking and gave each of us a generous helping of fries. Cute place. Old Rumford baking powder factory. It's quite small, but that's not bad as everything seems to fit. I had the white out to drink and while it wasn't strong it tasted good. Others had bloody marys which were spicy! We started with the doghnuts which were a bit heavy but the sauce was great. Enough for 4 people to share or one person to devour. I then had the raspberry french toast which was great but smaller than all the other entrees everyone else got. Not too sweet, but I'm not sure if anyone adds the butter they give you--that would be a bit much! Everyone loved their food and ate everything. I tried the fries which I thought were under-salted and the bread which I thought was great. I was invited to Avenue N by good friends of ours and we were told that they are the best of Rumford. Forgive me, but I had not previously been to Rumford (may not even have heard of the city... XD) so naturally I was eager to try the "best of" Rhode Island. Avenue N sits on the corner of the streets that you first encounter driving off the highway from Providence. If you're not careful, you can miss it but once you see it, there is no mistaking the fact that this is a favorite among the locals. The parking lot is full, the lights are bright and signs prominently hold up the restaurant's name. As with all our new restaurants that we try, we over order. We started with the Korean Cheesesteak Tacos and the Point Judith Calamari. I liked the idea of the Korean Cheesesteak Tacos. Could benefit from just a little a little less sweetness and actually eliminate the "Korean" from the name because I think it detracts from the what the dish really does offer. They were delicious just not in the Korean way I was expecting. I wasn't a huge fan of the calamari, however... Luckily there are many other appetizers on the menu that can easily be chosen in place. Dude, ladies and gentlemen, the Lamb Shank is the star of the show here. Beautifully glazed lamb shank that falls off the bone. No one makes it better in Rhode Island than the Avenue. That is a must order and easily could be a "must share." When it was in season, we also ordered the pumpkin pizza which was great but I thought Al Forno's did that a little better. Nonetheless, a great addition to our night. Some suggestions: Order the lamb shank, skip the calamari, add a pizza. Order dessert. Would love to try them again! read more

Hello, just got home from our first visit to avenue n, been wanting to try for some time now....glad we did!! First of all, I kinda knew if food is good, and place is small, (which it is), we had little chance of getting in, should make reservations!! But, they accommodated us next door, at the "pantry"....very quiet/cozy. Service (Julie) was great, very personable. The steak and mushroom pizza and pan seared scallops with asparagus risotto were ordered...... To be honest, I'm not a pizza fan...in and of itself so ordinary, but I thought I'd have something for next day, we were to split the scallop dish! But, as I took one bite of that pizza, it was nothing like I've had before, it was extraordinary, to say the least!! The scallops were perfect sea scallops, this is the kind of place where they lack on space, perhaps ambience , but owners/chef clearly makes up for on it on food ingredients , combinations of flavors, presentation, you can see/taste their efforts towards good food......great first impression!! Going back in morning for that lemon ricotta donut!!! The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the noise level, and the "pantry" was slightly uncomfortable as far as no backs on our seats....no big deal! read more

I was really skeptical about getting takeout to celebrate an event but the way COVID has everything shut down there was no point in postponing the celebration for another time. I'm so glad we followed through. Everything from the takeout cocktails to the entrees was super. We had planned to have a cocktail starter and then some craft beer picked up from a few local places but the cocktails were so huge we couldn't handle anything more that that. Brussel sprouts are on too many menus in my opinion but those we got here were fabulous as were the other apps we tried. I was halfway through the smoked cauliflower and sweet potato enchiladas before I realized I had opted for a veggie meal. I am typically the meat eater but these were better than most I've had. The salmon was equally great I'm told. It was so good I wasn't allowed a taste. This place needs to stick around because I need to get back there to eat my way through everything on the menu. Yum Yum Yum! Avenue N is fresh, tasty, and friendly! Walk into this East Providence establishment, and you're instantly welcomed by a friendly hostess - who is actually the owner! We tried the oatmeal stout on tap, and found it to be absolutely delicious. If you'd like a fun cocktail - try the bourbon hayride. It was a sweet and tasty concoction! Avenue N is an intimate setting, but not intrusive. About 14 people can sit and eat at the bar, and there are approximately 11 other tables. I think it's an ideal place for a first date- because it's small and loud, but not impersonal. The light bulbs are super cool - I took a picture here on yelp - and the entire restaurant has a good amalgam of modern and vintage decor and service. There is exposed brick and beams, big windows, outdoor seating, and a marble bar. They offer a decent mix of specialty beers, fine wines, and a variety of spirits. The exterior and surrounding neighborhood don't do the interior justice, but I like it because it keeps this gem slightly hidden. Plenty of parking, and areas to sit outside. I love this place. The steak pizza is insanely delicious and addictive. I can't really get it because of gluten sensitivities but if they make it gluten-free I will have to say goodbye to my skinny pants forever. I really love the pantry too. There are two separate dining areas, but both offer the same menu. We ate in the "pantry" and loved every second of it! The menu is full of creative and unique entrees and selections. My boyfriend tried the cauliflower and turnip bisque, with truffle oil and loved it! For his entree, he had the lamb sliders and couldn't stop raving about them. This is one of the best places we have went that was featured on phantom gourmet. We had the burger, Brussel sprouts, margarita pizza and chocolate mousse cake. Brussel sprouts were my favorite followed closely by the burger. We brought most of the pizza home and it was great the next day too. I have had the beet salad, the lamb shank entree, the salmon and the scallops and everything was great. Been here several times and always thought it was ok for the price, well today I figured it out. Just order apps, salad, pizza, or the burger. Don't bother with the entrees, never wowed by them but the pizza and burger, absolutely unbelievable. Got the steak and cheese and the margarita pizza, cooked so well, had the crispy crust and the flavors just popped. The burger literally melts in your mouth, both of these options are between $10-$15, why would you ever order a $26 entree (I have had the scallop dish and the salmon dish in the past) that is mediocre. Calamari was great, wings were amazing but there were 5 of us and they only give you 4 wings, kinda wished the waitress had mentioned this to us as it was a little awkward that two had to share a wing. The drinks are made with care, they have a mixologist who knows her stuff. Drinks are around $10 but well worth it. Limited seating so you need a reservation and if you can get a table near the wall that is perfect so you aren't sitting on top of others as the rest of the restaurant is set up. My fiancé and I sat at the bar and enjoyed several appetizers along with our dinner entrees. We tried the empanada and the pork belly spring roll. The spring roll was really good, unique flavor especially with the dipping sauce. The empanada was just ok.. not bad but nothing to write home about. We then tried the corn soup and the chicken and biscuit soup. My fiancé was disappointed with the chicken and biscuit soup particularly as it was not served hot and had very large pieces of vegetables.. not what he was expecting. The corn soup was very good and piping hot to boot! For dinner, we got a pizza and the burger. The burger was cooked as requested but it was really the fries that stole the show. I've never had anything other than an excellent meal here. Their scallop entree is the best in the Providence area and their pizzas are all incredible. You can't miss here. They've got a smaller beer selection, but they nail their choices so Avenue N always has something fantastic on tap. What I appreciate most about Avenue N is the people. I had the Chicken Dumpling Soup,Gem Salad, cassoulet and found each slightly different from what I expected but if anything better as a result. My wife loved her fried oysters and her scallops. The service was attentive but not intrusive. In particular, although it was a busy Friday evening, we felt NO pressure to hurry so that they could serve more meals. The only drawback is that it is noisy. You should try this restaurant. read more
